Yes, I did it. Arrived before opening (7:55ish) and got my goods and got out close to 8:45 on the dot. The guy in front of me knew what he was doing because he brought his Tupperware. The employees were kind as was everyone in line, which was very relaxed yet orderly. I made an initial list after seeing the menu online and some last minute substitutions when I saw the items visually. Gruyere and calabrian chili bread - The bread is amazing and still a little warm at 8:45/9 AM. The texture, taste, and flavors were perfect. A great crunch with an airy inside. The flavors complemented one another perfectly. Highly recommend getting bread. Blueberry scone - I had the peach scone on my list but this flavor was a last minute sub. It was jam packed with blueberries with a sweet glaze on top. Super freshly baked texture. Pistachio chocolate morning bun - Amazing. Nice, flaky layers. Filled with delicious chocolate chips and pistachios with a delicious chocolate sort of glaze on top. Raspberry chocolate chip brioche twist - Great flavor with raspberry jam and chocolate sort of like the innards of a choc croissant. It tasted a tiny bit dry while I usually prefer a doughier bake. Giant though! Blondie - Last minute substitution! Really yummy with chocolate chips and butterscotch chips and varied texture. The middle was yummy dough-y while the outside was more baked. Pecan stresual coffee cake - The topping was amazing as was the inner layer which felt sort of like pecan pie. I would have liked a tiny bit more moisture in the actual cake. There's decent dog entertainment in line. Meaning dogs to entertain humans, and some employees even hand out dog treats. Ravioli the doggo (shout out if you are reading this, even though the chances are low). When I left the line looked about equivalently long as when I arrived. Overall amazing and don't sleep on the bread!! Worth waiting in line. read more

I finally got a chance to try this place on my way back from Lake Tahoe! As you probably know, there will be a line when you go since they're only open one day a week. But for me the line moved pretty quickly so it wasn't bad at all. I really like the unique selection they have overall! Tons of options for both sweet and savory, and lots of flavor combinations that you can't get anywhere else. I got the ube coconut cheesecake, lemon ricotta cookie, nectarine panna cotta tart, and the ratatouille pastry (forgot the full name). My favorite was the ratatouille pastry and the ube coconut cheesecake. The pastry was very unique, warm and tasty, and the dough was perfectly flaky and crispy. The cheesecake was also excellent--a great balance of sweet and savory without being overwhelming. I liked both the panna cotta tart and the lemon ricotta cookie, but they weren't my favorite. The cookie was very thick and cakey, sort of more like a biscuit than a cookie in my opinion. Overall the staff was also very friendly and I'd definitely come back! read more

A local Truckee friend told me about this bakery that is only open one day a week and I had to try it. As an avid baker/cook, I was wary of some of the products after reading some reviews on Yelp. After waiting in line for an hour, reviewing the online menu, then ordering a selection of goodies, I am here to tell you that this place is worth it. Granted I had to stand in line for an hour and there is no seating, but people in line were civil and friendly. No meltdowns. Nobody going "postal". If you want coffee, there is an excellent coffee shop a couple doors down. Many people in line were drinking coffee while waiting. Because I returned home right after purchasing my box of baked goods, I was able to re-heat the pastries, which I highly recommend, and enjoy them on the patio. Here's what I had: ham harissa red onion Parmesan croissant - reminded me of chorizo pistachio baklava morning bun - complex flavors of fruit and spice kale potato tomato onion cheddar cheese quiche - best quiche ever raspberry peach almond pie bar (gf and vegan) - very fruity chocolate chunk cookie - lots of chocolate passion fruit Basque cheesecake - creamy with a passion fruit topping Due to elevation, the croissant wasn't like other croissants I've had with their many layers, but I enjoyed the ham harissa nonetheless which reminded me of Mexican chorizo. Because there is a 70¢ charge per large box, the locals brought their own Tupperware to haul their treasures back home and maybe to reduce landfill. In addition to freeze-dried strawberry granola, dog treats are also sold here. Strategy for next time: Show up before 8am opening or closer to closing time 2pm (you risk product shortage) to avoid long wait times. Bring my own Tupperware to avoid extra charges. Tried a few sweet baked items today: The chocolate raspberry croissant was okay. Wasn't motivated to finish it. The blueberry lemon scone isn't a scone. It's a muffin masquerading in a scone shape. See my other reviews for my scone sourcing preferences. The Budapest coffee cake was quite good. I'd come back for that. For me the sweet baked goods were too much of a miss. I prefer Cornerstone's approach. I might come back and try the bread. read more

One of the best bakeries I have ever visited. Since they are only open one day a week, it's easy to pick your 'special treat' or 'cheat' day. From their freshly baked croissants (ham & cheddar, plain, chocolate) to tasty morning buns or a creative bacon scone, it's hard to go wrong with anything sweet or savory. I can't ever choose, so we get both types. Since the line can be long in the morning, dress accordingly for a wait in line outside. It's worth the wait! Our most recent savory discovery: Kale, Delicata, Green Onion, Potato & Gruyere Quiche. Bought an entire quiche and it did not last long. Great combination. Great staff! read more

Only being open one day a week, the line gets long, so my boyfriend showed up bright and early before opening to grab some treats for work and for home. My boyfriend tried the quiche which couldn't make it back home to me, and it looked incredible as well as him saying it tasted great. The almond croissant was okay, a little dry, and I wish it had more filling, but good almond flavor. The chai macaroon was also okay, but overall just tasted like sugar, and was very gooey inside. I expected the chai spice to have flavor or spice instead of mostly taste like vanilla. I also tried their brown butter cookies which I was so sad to be disappointed in as it was the worst of all. It fell apart in my mouth like burnt sugar. The office tried the scones which was liked but unlike a typical scone as it was soft. We also tried a morning bun which was delicious, and there was some sort of plum tart item that was also well liked. Overall I think this is a decent place, but surprisingly does better on savory items, and for the difficulty of acquiring I don't know if we'll be back. read more

I know I know... Two weeks in a row. But when I learned it was Friday, o just had to have another breakfast galette. This time the lube was Way longer. It took about 35 minutes before I could get to order. They also offered to heat the breakfast. Not in the microwave, they have a heating oven that heats it slowly. Takes about four minutes. But that way the egg comes out perfect. Interesting thing, everybody in line is friendly, sociable, everyone is just super happy to be here. If you try this place she will find out why everyone is so happy. There's a coffee shop next-door Pacific crest coffee that I will try next time. Also, there are quite a few businesses around, so parking can be a little bit tight. read more

My out of town friends affectionately refer to it as 'the cult of truckee' and will make it a point to plan their trip around fridays. There's always a huge selection of pastries, sweets, savories, breads, etc. - something for everyone! They also manage to keep it exciting week after week with specials and menu changes. Looks like I found my favorite biscuits, and they're from Sierra Bakehouse! So glad I found this place while browsing for places to try during my vacation in North Lake Tahoe. The bakery is only open on Fridays so of course we had to get as many items as we could. My friend ended up picking up all the sweets they had available and a few savory goodies. My absolute favorite from our bakery haul are the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits are different from the usual ones you get from cafes or fast food joints. They portion is huge, flavorful, and more bread-like in texture. They were amazing with their sausage gravy! I also toasted one and just added honey for a sweet treat. Would definitely go back when I'm around the area again! read more

We put our special day in the hands of the folks over at Sierra Bakehouse and we were overall pretty happy with the results. My wife and I got married at Lake Tahoe. Seven months or so before the big day we embarked on a cake tasting adventure to lock down our baker for the tasty centerpiece of our wedding day feast - the cake. We met with some amazing bakers in the area, finally pulling the trigger with Sierra Bakehouse. We wanted an assortment of cupcakes for our wedding with a 6" round to cut and smash into each other's face on D-Day. We had a bit of a hiccup with our scheduled cake tasting (they forgot about the appointment) but they made it right. We were offered some incredible combinations to sample and they had some really good suggestions for frosting and cake pairings. They were responsive to our requests for customizing the cupcakes and on game day everything turned out great. Communication with us throughout the process was pretty good. All in all we are happy with our experience with the team at Sierra Bakehouse. read more

They're only open to the public on Fridays, and encourage pre ordering, so I placed an online order on Wednesday. Tried out a few different items and they were mostly hits - sesame sourdough bread: this was hands down the best sourdough I've had. extremely tasty and aromatic. finished it in 3 days. - pistachio chocolate croissant: also really good but I got a lot of chocolate taste and not pistachio :( - squash, cauliflower, tahini galette: this was very tasty and almost like a savory pot pie, I really liked it - sourdough mushroom calzone: it was interesting, a bit too cheesy for me but my husband loved it it was slightly pricey but very good quality items and I look forward to many more Friday trips to this bakery :) read more

One of my good friend who lives in Truckee recommended this place to me and I'm so glad she did! As she put it, it's a "huge thing in Truckee". When I arrived Friday around 9:00 there was a line down the block. They are only open on Fridays but offer a huge array of pastries from croissants to scones, cookies to loaves of artisanal bread. I got an array of savory croissants, quiche, blueberry scone, French macaron, blackberry oat bar, blondie, bread and Stromboli. The blondie and blueberry scone were moist and flavorful, the savory croissants were bursting with flavor and the Stromboli was packed with sausage and pepperoni. Everything was delicious except the piece of quiche I had was missing the bottom which was a bit disappointing, and the mango macaron was too sweet and lacked mango flavor. If in Truckee on a Friday morning I would recommend popping by, they have just about every baked good you could want! read more

This place is amazing! You can catch them at the Truckee Farmer's market on Sunday or visit their warehouse on Friday. Be prepared for a little bit of a wait, it's a popular place. They do try to keep the line moving pretty well. They have so many amazing baked goods I was overwhelmed with options, I wanted to try everything! I did try quite a bit on my first visit and was able to narrow it down to a few favorites for my next visit. The top two things I've tried so far are the chocolate chunk cookies which are rich and so delicious, and the fig bars which leave all other fig bars in the dust!
