We went on Truckee Thursday 2 weeks ago so the entire area was packed but I had made a reservation. I was really looking forward to trying this newer restaurant in downtown Truckee and it was recommended by some other local places, as having excellent food. My review would be 5 stars if just considering flavors and quality. The hand torn scallop from the raw bar menu was exceptional. As were the potatoes, which sounds like an exaggeration since they are just potatoes. These ones are so tasty and have a great texture of feeling crispy and fried on the outside yet super creamy inside, with a fontina cheese sauce, and the roe on top give such a nice kick of salty goodness. The picana steak was cooked medium rare as requested and had great flavor. I liked the meat (beef cheek) inside of the canelon dish, but I wouldn't order that again. It was my least favorite. Drinks were all good, except I asked for the Paloma to be made with tequila (instead of mezcal) and it came to be as a margarita. Didn't have any grapefruit, it was a marg. I still drank it, was a good marg. Just not what I had requested from the server. So, where I end up at 3 stars is coming down to the service. I'm not sure if something happened that made our server want to not like us, but it certainly felt that way. We had a reservation for 3, and last moment our friend had to change plans so it was just 2 of us, and it happened very close to our Rez time. When we arrived I saw the hostess and server talking about the change in Rez from 3 to 2. Then we noticed it took a really long time for things to start happening. Our server came up and asked what we wanted to drink, no greeting or interaction beyond that. We ordered a couple cocktails. We didn't have anything on the table for a while, another server came to check if anyone had been over to us. We said yeah and thanked him. We eventually ordered food, and 30 minutes into it, all we had was 2 drinks. So, it was a bit slow service and maybe that is just related to being busy but we noticed other tables seemed to have things and the bar was quick. All during the meal our server only came to the table to bring items, never asked how anything was, and interactions were as quick as possible. That's fine if she was slammed, but I noticed her chatting with tables around us. So, we left feeling like we had spent $200 (after tip) to feel like we were an afterthought. And it's rare that happens for us when dining out. I want to give every place I can 5 stars but sometimes that isn't possible. This is one of those times. Maybe it was an off moment for us and our server, who knows. The only thing I can think is that the change in our party size caused some issue for her, and by the end of our evening there I had wished we just sat at the bar, where we watched everyone get great service from the bartenders. It was frustrating and disappointing to see available seating go to other guests while no effort was made to communicate with us or find a solution. A little acknowledgment and customer service would have gone a long way. They didn't even apologize. In the beginning I thought it was a language barrier but when I politely addressed my concerns they were extremely rude and had no desire to find a solution. Most of our party left due to the rude service. Only 6 of us stayed behind to eat. We thought the food was good. We paid for the bill in cash, only for the server to chase us outside and accuse us of shorting the cash. Either someone stole it or dropped it because we paid the full price plus tip. Since we didn't have any proof, we had no choice but to pay twice. Will never eat here or recommend again.

I've had Thai fried rice in a number of other places and while the flavor varied, there at least was flavor.
