Try bringing your own bag(s) before slamming the store for doing you wrong, or simply pay the small bag fee and they will provide one for you. And to the bad review on not accepting your return, policy is policy. Next time, return the items within the 30 day period. Please get over your entitlement issues. read more

This was actually the 2nd Sierra I visited today; I'm hooked! I didn't even know this location was here but was out in Batavia for something else and stopped in to check out their sneaker selection. I didn't end up with sneakers, but I did buy a camping meal (I figure they're good to have around for emergency since they just need hot water, and they had appealing options like Chicken Coconut Curry and Chicken Teriyaki). Thanks to Ian for friendly customer service at the counter. I'll be shopping here again soon! read more

Never coming here again. I came to buy a new sports gear for tennis but it was also my first time coming here. Here I was thinking that my first time will go well but all the workers were so snobby and just kept giving me the worst glares like I said a slur or something. That went on my whole shopping experience, so I just ignored it. Then when I was getting ringed up some kid who was the cashier didn't have the decency to bag my bras and just expected me to walk out the door with them in hand? Sierra needs to train better, but either way I won't be coming back ever and I don't recommend anyone coming. read more

It's new and it's near Trader Joe's. Went there to check it out since it just opened recently. My general impression? It feels like TJ Maxx or HomeGoods and a sporting goods store had an okay looking baby. It feels like a store for people that like to say they go camping, but who, in reality, just like to say they go camping, but would really rather be in a hotel. Me, except, I don't say I like camping, I just go to the hotel. There is camping gear toward the front along with some things like a kayak cooler that had 4 can/cup holders on it with a cooler section in the middle. You attach it to your kayak by a cord and it floats in back. This makes no sense to me. Why would you want your drink floating along in back of you? You would need to pull it in every time you needed a drink. Silly, but sillier is the fact that they have a bunch of home goods type stuff. So, if you want to act like you go camping, you can go to the back of the store and buy some home decor like vintage-look prints of Yosemite, pillows, signs that say you are a camper, etc. There are some cool tables and benches that look like a piece of natural wood. My overrall impression. It's worth a look. There are some interesting items and clothes, shoes, swimsuits, bags, camping stuff, home stuff, etc. read more

I was really surprised to hop on here and see the reviews so low for Sierra. Though yes, if you are 100% a camper- adventure seeker at heart, this place will never compare to an REI or Columbia store. But putting things in perspective that this is also owned by T.J. Maxx and Home Goods, their selection and more so their discounts are incredible! To be able to buy a brand name skiing/winter jacket half off as an in-season item is too good to be true in my opinion. I really like what this store had to offer and really think they are scratching the itch of all outdoor lovers on a budget. read more

The staff at this facility are less than appropriate as far as customer service is concerned. I made a purchase in May of $212.38. I tried to make a return/exchange that was past their 30 day return policy. Although I had my receipt and knew it was past the 30 days, I asked the cashier if I could return the $7.99 item and put it toward the merchandise I was purchasing which totaled about $25.00. The cashier called the manager by saying this into his mic "I HAVE A CUSTOMER WHO WANTS TO VIOLATE THE RETURN POLICY" Really? That's how you call for a manager. I myself am a Manager in a retail setting and I would NEVER speak this way in front of a customer-very insulting. The manager - LEE - showed up, did not say hello OR make eye contact with me. He looked at the monitor, receipt & the item and just replied "NO". I told him I understood the policy & since it was only an $8 item & I wanted to make a purchase of at least $25 could he make an exception? Again he said "no" and just began to walk away. I actually had to ask him to return, since I was not actually finished talking to him. He looked shocked, walked back & I proceeded to let him know this probably wasn't the best way to deal with a customer. I told him I was offended by his actions and asked for a complete explanation of why he could not approve the transaction. He did & I told him I understood. I again let him know his actions were less than ideal. He said "I'm sorry you misunderstood". I did not misunderstand anything, he actually walked away from the interaction. I DID NOT make the new purchase and I WILL NOT be shopping at this store ever again. In fact, I will tell others of my negative experience. At the end of the day, I am glad I work at a company who treats their customers with respect and will make changes to policies to make their customers happy, no matter the circumstances. Some customer service training seems to be needed from upper management for this company. The one star is there because that is the only way I can post the review. Nice place. A treasure hunt for sure as you scour the racks for deals. My observation is there are a lot more men's clothes than women's. Last couple of visits to the two Sierras we've been to my hubby came out with 4+ items, me 1. It's not a competition of course HA, but I'd sure like to find treasures like he does. We will definitely be back. He loves going here and I certainly enjoy a shopping trip. read more

Had to check out the new Sierra Trading Post (STP) located near the Trader Joe's and Smashburger in Batavia off Fabyan. Since the Gander Mountain closed across the street there has not been many local options. This location opened on Saturday and I stopped by on Sunday for a look. Lot was very busy and the store was buzzing with people. Was immediately impressed by the camping selection near the front of the store. Several rows of everything you need for car camping or backpacking. Good selection of dehydrated and camping food and lots of sleeping bags, sleeping pads, etc to choose from. I feel this section of the store more than makes up for the missing Gander store at least for camping, which is my primary activity. For day two I think everything went well, good selection, fast moving lines and better prices than either Gander or Dick's. I did not check out every area of the store but the selection looks promising. Two areas that I think could be improved upon immediately are the following. I realize that STP is part of TJ Maxx and Home Goods, that said I am not sure why a large section of the store, in the back, was essentially a few Home Goods aisles in a sporting goods store. It looked like mostly home decorations but seemed out of place for the rest of the store. My second suggestion is to take that Home Good section and immediately turn it into a paddle sports section. As is right now, they have almost zero paddle sports. I think I saw one stand up paddle board and one kayak and one kayak paddle, that was about it jammed into a corner. For a store that is 1.7 miles from the Fox River and the Fabyan boat launch I was disappointed to see so little in the way of boating. Remove the Home Good section, there is a Home Goods a couple miles away in the Commons, and add paddling sports and a bit more fishing gear, that is my two cents. Good local addition to the old Circuit City building. Looking forward to seeing how they evolve and will likely be a regular customer. Better prices than Dick's on most gear but still need to go to Rocktown Adventures in Aurora for any paddling needs. read more
