I love Janet at the front desk! She makes the business! I wish it was a little brighter in there, but overall I'd recommend.

This is a real community gym--clean, modern, well-organized, and welcoming without being intimidating. The space itself is impressive: open, bright, and thoughtfully laid out with quality equipment, plenty of room to move, and clearly structured stations. Everything feels intentional and well maintained, from the strength rigs to the cable machines. It's functional training done right--no chaos, no overcrowding, just efficient use of space that makes workouts flow smoothly. What really stood out to me was the people. The coaches are approachable, attentive, and clearly invested in making sure everyone feels supported, regardless of age or fitness level. You get the sense that this gym is designed for people, not just hardcore athletes--which I genuinely appreciate. The vibe is motivating without being pushy, and inclusive without watering down the workout. Bonus points for the details: clean locker rooms with showers (huge plus), water stations, and a front desk area that actually feels welcoming rather than transactional. Even the branding carries a strong "you belong here" message--and it doesn't feel forced. If you're looking for a well-run, community-focused strength and conditioning gym in the Foothills that balances structure, quality coaching, and a supportive environment, Block Fitness is absolutely worth checking out.

As for the cons, the sauna is sometimes out of order. It's been off and on all summer. Also, I will say that some of the older people at this place don't understand gym etiquette and will swipe your equipment before you're done if you turn your back for a second. The trainers are somewhat distracting as well. Some are good and know what they're doing, but they're unreasonably loud when speaking with their clients. Others are quiet and polite but don't offer great training; one guy had his older, frail client ripping down half reps on the lat pull down machine like he was 14 years old and trying to impress his friends. Overall, a good experience with a few hang ups.

As a parent and grateful community member, I continue to be impressed by the care, professionalism, and heart that make this place so special. Our experience with the Early Childhood Education program for the past three years has been outstanding. As a parent, the most important thing is trust, and we have real trust in the teachers and leaders. The staff know the children, care about their growth, communicate with families, and create a warm, nurturing environment where kids feel safe, supported, and excited to come each day. The care is high-quality, thoughtful, robust, and flexible, which matters so much for working families and families with different needs. I also deeply appreciate the J's broader commitment to inclusion, especially its programming for individuals with disabilities and families who benefit from extra support. That is one of the things that makes the J feel like more than a gym, preschool, camp, or community center. It is a place that works hard to create belonging. The facilities are excellent and very well maintained. The campus is especially fun in the summer, with the pool, splash pad, camp programming, sports fields, tennis courts, fitness center, classrooms, art spaces, and community gathering areas all working together. It feels like a true community campus where people of all ages can learn, play, connect, and feel welcome. No organization is perfect, but I have a lot of confidence in the people leading the J and in the direction of the community. For families looking for early childhood education, summer camp, fitness, aquatics, arts, inclusion programming, or simply a welcoming place to belong in Tucson, I highly recommend the Tucson J.

The space itself is super CLEAN with a really nice aesthetic. It's big, doesn't feel cramped, and there's a huge variety of options--everything from classes to hydro massage, red light, tanning, etc. You can literally make a whole self-care day out of being here. I'm obsessed with the Studio Red class--major asskicker in the best way. Total sweat factory you will walk out drenched but feeling accomplished. Today I tried the new infrared heated yoga flow with Keli and wow... complete heaven. Such a good balance of challenging and relaxing. I left feeling reset. No need to lug around a mat ! they have plenty to use & assigned numbered spots for you and your mat - Huge perk. Honestly, this place just hits. Good sound systems throughout , Great energy, great workouts, and tons of options depending on your mood. The only 2 downsides is the parking lot , Horrible location & unsafe at night . Do not leave valuables in your car . The other is the staff , they are EXTREMELY pushy and salesy so be warned if that's not your jam .
