I called a few weeks ago hoping to get same-day availability. I left a message and I received a voicemail shortly thereafter stating there was no availability until the following week. Fast forward about 2 1/2 weeks and I took another chance and called. I spoke to Curt and he said he had availability that evening! Score! He gave me excellent directions since this particular part of Old Folsom has funky streets. I was feeling awful; almost like I had been in a car accident or as if someone violently shook me. When I arrived I explained to Curt the multiple issues I had and what had been done in the past to try to remedy these issues; massage, reflexology, acupuncture, chiropractor, etc. I also mentioned to him that two Physical Therapists (in my medical group who are covered under my insurance) REFUSED to follow a Doctor's referral/order which outlined exactly what was needed to help me with my piriformis syndrome; just one of the many issues I have. Both Physical Therapists gave me exercises to do and refused to do any massage. One Physical Therapist insisted that my back was the issue and not piriformis syndrome. The other PT told me that stretching would help this area. (On a side note, stretching does not get deep into the glutes). I didn't feel rushed explaining things to Curt and felt very comfortable with him. He and I both discussed that he was not going to "fix" me on the first visit. He did not make promises that he could not keep. I also explained to him that I've had "massages" but I really needed him to focus on particular areas and muscles; not just lather me with lotion and "make" massage "sweeps." I made it abundantly clear why I chose to come here and thanks to fellow Yelpers for helping me find Curt! Ambience was relaxing, pressure was not too light NOR too hard, he didn't talk incessantly during the session (this is more common than you might think with some massage therapists), AND MOST importantly.........he massaged the area deep in my glutes to relieve some of the pain I've had for YEARS due to piriformis syndrome. He can teach a couple of Physical Therapists about truly treating piriformis syndrome; not curing it in one session BUT at least trying to address it. My neck, shoulders, and back felt amazing afterward as well. Curt was also very accommodating in providing me a receipt to submit to my Health Savings Account Plan so I can get reimbursed for this treatment. Again, this is not something that all massage therapists will do. I am looking forward to more treatments from Curt coupled with other treatment modalities to bring some pain relief. read more

Since I am 27 weeks pregnant, a friend recommended this place & that Curt is my masseuse. I got a prenatal massage from Curt, the owner. This was my fourth prenatal massages during my pregnancy and I have to said that it is probably one of the best one so far. I am definitely coming back but maybe after the baby is born as I am due next month. Curt asked about my problem areas and addressed them during the massage. A lot of the previous prenatal massages, the masseuses were too scared to put too much pressure so it was a pretty low key, super mellow massage that felt like they were just touching your back and shoulders. I typically get about one deep tissue massage every other month so it was nice to have a prenatal massage that had enough pressure to attack the aches but still not enough to jump start any contractions. Curt was flexible and tried his best to fit me in his schedule as I was looking on yelp to try to get an appointment for the next day. He moved his scheduling around and was able to fit me!!! This review is long over due. I've been going to Sierra Foothills for over 4 years, about once a month, and I can't recommend them highly enough! I started off only seeing Curt and he is amazing. He was the first male massage therapist I had seen and I was a little hesitant at the idea of seeing a male, but he was highly recommended to me by a good friend so I gave it a go. From the start he made me feel completely comfortable, he is incredibly professional while still making you feel at ease and his massages are amazing. No matter who you are, if you like massages at all curt will make you feel comfortable. My husband now also goes to see curt for all of his massages. Curt- One of the things I love about Curt's massages is that he does whatever it is your body needs, it's not the same massage every time. As far as I know he doesn't even classify his massages as "deep tissue" etc, if there's an area that needs some TLC he'll address it. I like a lot of pressure during my massages and he is great at really getting in there to get all my knots out while still making me feel relaxed. If pressure is not your thing, he's still your guy, he really is great at listening and adjusting pressure and focusing on areas you specific (you just have to tell him). Prenatal massages - I would not have survived my pregnancy whiteout them! Towards the end I was going about every other week. I knew they did prenatal massages here but I didn't realize how well they did them until I got to experience them for myself. They have a prenatal pillow so you can lay FACE DOWN even at 9+ months pregnant! Curt and Tiffany are also very educated in their field so I was confident that my baby and I were in safe hands. Tiffany- Tiffany is the female massage therapist here and because I loved Curt so much it wasn't until recently that I saw Tiffany, when she was nice enough to squeeze me in. Oh man, had I been missing out! Tiffany is also amazing! Initially I was worried that maybe she wouldn't be able to give me as much pressure with the same comfort, but I was very wrong. She is also great about individualizing each massage, and there is definitely a lot of detail in her approach. This review is long overdue. Curt is hands down the best massage therapist I have ever had!!! Curt has been my massage therapist for about 8 years now, and every time I come in the service is always phenomenal. Curt does a great job at asking me where I'm having issues in my back and addresses them fully. He spends time on each section of my back getting into the knots around the shoulders where I carry the most tension. He has perfect pressure and technique. He knows how to deliver a deep tissue massage that is still relaxing! Which is impossible to find. But, what I love most about curt is his consistency. I've never had a bad massage, ever. I, now live in the Bay Area, but i'm so afraid to try a new massage therapist out here for fear of disappointment. I STILL drive from Berkeley to Folsom to get my massage on with Curt. Being worked on by Curt is an amazing experience. I've been a client for over a decade and though I don't see him as often as I'd like, I'm in heaven on his table. He finds pockets of tension I didn't know were there and his touch is relaxing but firm. I'm pleased he also gives an awesome prenatal massage! He has a special pillow thing that goes around the sides of your belly so you're supported but you can lay face down. It feels like a cozy little nest and it's so wonderful to be able to lay on your belly while pregnant. Curt has a great energy and I always leave feeling sssooo much better. Hands down (pun intended), the BEST massage! From a relaxing "standard" massage to a deep tissue, therapeutic massage, SFM will satisfy. If you can forgo the typical spa atmosphere, the water fountain, the citrus water, the pretentious waiting room and the high prices, you will find yourself coming back to SMF. I am a secretary with shoulder issues so I typically come in for a deep tissue massage. I walk in with what I call the "permanent shrug" from such tight muscles, and walk out almost feeling like I've been given a mild tranquilizer. Both CMTs are professional, effective and attentive (asking, before your session starts, if there are any problem areas that they should pay extra attention to). For me personally, I see Curt when I'm feeling pain and need an aggressive deep tissue massage. I see Pam when I want to feel pampered and relaxed. There was one time when I was so relaxed I actually fell asleep on the table. I was embarrassed, but Pam was so gracious and told me she took that as a compliment. The massages here are not 50 minutes... you get a full hour. 90 minute massages are also available. Another perk is the background music... you can choose the genre, and if you think they don't have your playlist, think again. My personal favorite - Dean Martin, Danny Kaye, Frank Sinatra. Now, what other MT or spa has that? Suggestion: Ask to be placed on the cancellation list. You will receive an email when last minute appointments become available.
