Stopped in for a massage with my sisters and, unfortunately, the experience wasn't what I was expecting. I had called a week in advance to book our appointments: a 75 minute body and foot massage for $70, a 75 minute prenatal massage for $70, and a 2hour body and foot massage for $110. When we arrived, the staff were very nice and friendly, which made a good first impression and gave me hope the visit would go smoothly. I shared a room with one of my sisters who was getting the prenatal massage, and while my bed was heated, it got so warm that I started sweating and had to ask them to turn it off. A male masseuse came in to work on me, which I personally didn't mind, but I do think they should ask clients their preference beforehand. As for the massage itself, it was just okay. I usually leave feeling completely relaxed, but this one didn't really do that for me. The techniques weren't great, and some of the small touches I've come to expect, like a head or scalp massage, never happened. When he moved to my legs and feet, he put on gloves, which honestly made it feel awkward and less soothing. There were a few moments where I felt more uncomfortable than relaxed, which kind of defeated the whole purpose. My sister's prenatal massage was another disappointment. About 20 minutes before her session was supposed to end, the masseuse told her she was finished and asked if she wanted to wait outside or stay in the room and rest. That meant she only received about 55 minutes of her 75 minute session, which felt really unfair considering we paid for the full time. The checkout process was the final straw. I was told there's a $1 per person fee for paying with a card, which already felt unnecessary. I was charged $233, and then the staff realized they rang it up incorrectly and charged my card again for an extra $20. The whole situation felt messy and unprofessional, especially after being told there was a specific card fee and then seeing extra charges added on anyway. Overall, I left more frustrated than refreshed and won't be returning. read more

I love Golden Hand! I have been a regular for short periods of time at some other places or have tried other places out, but when staff changes at a massage place, it can change the quality and prices. I have been coming here for a couple of years now, and although staff has changed some, the service has stayed constant. This is one of two places in the area (the other I previously reviewed) I always feel comfortable getting a massage at and feel good about the price. For some people who may be new to a massage like this, as I was also confused the first time and notice some confusion in other reviews, the best deal is the foot massage in terms of price and time if you are okay with more than a foot massage. The foot massage does have a large focus on acupressure techniques in the foot, but they do massage your arms, legs, face, head, neck, and back as well (although many ask if you want your face massaged or you can tell them you don't want it massaged and they won't, although that is always my favorite part). I like this, but I get that is not what everyone is looking for, so just be aware before you go here or a similar massage place that is what they mean by foot massage or foot reflexology. It is a full body massage. I love that they have a receptionist, as a few places I have been to have the masseuses acting as receptionist as well, which can cut back on the time you are actually massaged as they serve customers. Here, the receptionist focuses on the phones and front desk so the masseuses can focus on the customers. For the reflexology they have a nice room where you can come with others and all be in the same room (there are 8 chairs), which is more my style for massages, but they do have private rooms for the other massages as well if you prefer those massages. I have appreciated every masseuse who has worked on me and they are all my favorite. Everyone is so friendly and the music they play is quiet and gentle, so it is very relaxing. Holy massage. Come to this place and ask for Tony. I called an hour before they closed and asked if I could quickly drive over and get a massage for my shoulder. I have a pickleball tournament to play in the morning and just really needed it worked out. She said that it was okay and to come in. I showed up and it was super clean and smelled nice. I'm from NV and the average massage parlor cost for a 50 min deep tissue massage is $70. Here, it was $60 for 60 min! Super pleased with that price. I then laid down for what was probably one of the best massages I've had ever. Tony was awesome. I was struggling to move my shoulder initially without pain, but walked out and felt amazing. He really got in there and worked out all the shoulder and neck knots I had. I've had massages on cruises, spa resorts, and other parlors, this was seriously one of the best I'd ever had. He massaged areas in my back and shoulder I don't usually have massaged and it was incredible. Heavenly! Just to note, he doesn't really speak much English. Have come here a few times with my boyfriend for a couples massage. It's always been a good experience. My back has been bothering me the last couple days so I called them, they had a spot open in thirty minutes for a 75 min back and foot massage. Grace is amazing!!! She is so talented. I think this may be one of the best massages I've ever had in my life. I've had quite a few. She could tell I was tense, she really worked to get the knots out. I already feel much so much better. I've come here about 3 to 4 times. This place is awesome. The massage therapists are always professional, and provide the utmost warming hospitable service. The establishment is always well-kept, sterilized, and clean to perfection. The rates (especially for a 90-minute massage being $90) are excellent for this ritzy part of Folsom. I feel that massage is one of the best, resource-rich health practices someone can partake in. It's perfect for draining a person's lymphatic system, not just for the relaxation aspect. Massage is, in my opinion, one of the most healthy ways one can take care of their mind and body. The body stores negative energy, and massage allows a person to let their guard down (hypervigilance), and "trust" in the healing qualities that massage has to offer. Why pay $150-180 for a 90-minute massage at a ritzy massage/salon establishment, when you're paying extra for a steam room and sauna, and the frills of a waiting area with trail mix and a variety of hot premium teas? It's better just to save the extra $60-$90, and reinvest it back into more massages at The Golden Hand. *They provide adequate pressure, and cover more areas of the body in a more versatile way than traditional massages. Message was as expected. Ok but not great. Half an hour of pushing on me through a sheet before the message even got started, while the guy giving my friend a message kept clearing his throat, but it's an inexpensive place that will get you an apt. Same day on the fly so even if it's bad you're still winning. The problem came at the end when I was checking out. I usually tip 10% for an ok message 15% for a better than average and 20% + for an excellent message. I have been going to golden hands for years and never in my life have I experienced someone questioning the tip I gave them. It truly caught me off guard when I was asked if the message was not good because of the 10% tip for an ok message. Beyond unprofessional and completely unacceptable. Also a great way to get someone to leave a review! You might want to up your prices or post a mandatory 20% gratuity instead of shaming/bullying people into giving a bigger tip. After having open heart surgery I've been needing messages but it's been super hard to find someone that doesn't end up hurting me and that can get all the tension off my back and shoulders I let them know I could have no pushing and needed more gentle well the person that massage me did amazing she took off so much tension off me and really worked on my tight back I can't explain how much it hurt and no one had been able to help me I will be back I feel like a new person they really did take care of me and the massage was 10/10 also it's clean and well maintain in there. Went here on a whim because of yelp! So glad I did. The inside is clean, employees are nice and my massage was awesome! My body has been tense for awhile so I needed a treat yourself day. I only paid for a foot massage. The man who massaged me made me feel very uncomfortable. He massaged my butt for a long time and was breathing loudly and heavily in my ear. I froze and didn't say anything to him out of fear. Then he stood in the lobby staring at me while the receptionist took my payment. I will never return to this establishment. Oh my goodness! My man and I have each gotten over 20 massages. One of us always enjoys theirs and the other one not so much. For the first time we both LOVED our massages!!!! I had Robin and my man had Jessica. Robin was amazing and eased into my massage and let my body talk to her knowing exactly where to go hard and where to soften her touch. She never once went on my bones which is always one of my pet peeves. Plus she gave a great head massage which is always my favorite!! She was nasty, old and had pretty bad hair, and was complaining that her son was late, go figure probably a Kyle at this point so the appointment was rescheduled, after this haggard Karen was complaining some more, they offered a full refund no questions asked, but you know Karen's, they won't stop. Ok, so my best friend and I went in for a couples massage yesterday and booked 90 minutes. My massage was great, my issue was with the front desk at the end. My friend was paying for her massage and both of our oil upgrades. The receptionist, who also did her massage, proceeded to tip shame her and specified what the tip should be. Then I went to pay for mine, which should've been just for a 90 minute massage because my friend had already paid for the oil upgrade, and was charged the same amount as my friend! It took me a minute to process what just happened and when checking their site it appears they charged me for a 120 minute massage instead. So they tip shamed my friend and then overcharged me!! Again, my massage was great and I have no issues with that part, but on reception side their business practices are super shady to say the least. We will not be coming back. Update: to reply that tips are never pushed on clients and that you were " unaware" of shady business practices does not make it ok. They definitely pushed higher tips and told her what she should be tipping and it was not in a friendly way. This place is not what it used to be and we have found better service elsewhere. Sad to say, we are looking into other options for Chinese massage as the availability of the masseuses we want has been very diminished for the past month or two. Hopefully this is just a temporary glitch of some kind but I go there every other week with two friends for foot and body massage that we all really need, and we travel quite a ways to get there, and have done for quite a few years. My message was ok. It wasn't amazing but it was ok! My complaint is about timing. I went with my son, we both did the foot message which is 1 HOUR! In the beginning I told my masseuse I don't want my head & face touched/messages. He said ok. Fist of all why did my sons masseuse go with the same request for my son when he didn't readiest that? He wasn't the one requesting that, only I was (he had to tell his masseuse several times during the session to message harder, and she was very light handed with him) Second, 15 minutes was cut short because they didn't do the bead/face! Why can't you use that 15 minutes to do my back, back or feet? I'm Paying for an hour message not 45 minutes! You should adjust your messages per request and not cut people's times. My favorite place for a basic one hour foot massage---the one where you lie in open room with your clothes on. They work your entire body and you will start lying face up. Their technique is amazing, they use really good pressure which I love you cannot beat the quality of this massage for only $35. My husband and I get 90 minute couples massages at Golden Hand at least once every time we're in town. The prices really cannot be beat. We have a "$90 couples massage" coupon (yes, my mother clips coupons) that they happily let us reuse each time. You read that right. 90 minutes. $90. For both people. The employees are really hard workers, so we gladly leave big tips, especially since the massages themselves are so inexpensive. As is the case with most massage spas, the quality of the massage varies depending on who you get (as well as your personal preference). But I've never had a bad massage, and I'm more than okay with a slightly-less-than-perfect massage given the overall value. read more

I thought I wrote a review for Golden Hand long ago. Doh! This is my go to foot massage place. I've been coming since they opened. I guess I've been here 25 times. I mean it's 20 dollars and a generous tip, and I'm feeling great! Always clean, quiet, just right temp, and really terrific 20 dollar massages. I will say each masseuse does basically the same routine. Some are soft and some are stronger. Just state your preference beforehand to the front desk host so it's clearly communicated to your masseuse . Today for instance I have a headache, so I told the front desk lady to tell my masseuse.
