I absolutely love Sierra Hills Market. The store is clean, well-stocked, and the staff throughout the store are always friendly and helpful. They also make some of the best deli sandwiches around! We even spoke with one of the managers because we truly enjoy shopping here and hope to see one improvement in the deli department. The deli staff always acknowledge customers, which we appreciate, but the wait can be quite long because they continue finishing other tasks before helping the customer in line. We understand they have work to do, but it would be wonderful if serving waiting customers could be a higher priority. Since this is the only grocery store in the area, we hope the deli department can improve the wait times. We love this market and want to see it continue to thrive. The blonde girl working the deli counter is unbelievably rude and has absolutely no business dealing with customers. I stop in here occasionally to pick up a sandwich and a few things before heading up into the mountains. The last couple of times I've been in, I've been waited on by the same employee. I treated her with nothing but kindness and respect, yet for some reason she treated me like I had personally done something to her. Her attitude was hostile, disrespectful, and completely uncalled for. The first time it happened, I was honestly baffled. Even her coworkers appeared shocked by the way she was speaking to and treating me. I figured maybe she was having a bad morning and gave her the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, on my next visit, the exact same thing happened with the exact same employee. Once again, I was polite to her, and once again she acted like she had some kind of personal vendetta against me. Her coworkers again seemed visibly uncomfortable with her behavior. At this point, I'm done spending my money here. I have no idea what this employee's problem is, but customers should not be treated this way--especially customers who have done absolutely nothing except walk in, be polite, and spend money at your business. Nice market with a good selection of food. The in-house deli is exceptional! I recommend that you stop here for that sandwich to take along with you in your outdoor adventuring endeavors. You'll be well fueled! The sandwiches are made to order from good ingredients. While all are well-priced, there's always a buck off that for the sandwich special of the week . Look for the special of the week sign posted. This past weekend, it was the New Yorker. It was so huge, that I could eat half for lunch at the kayak launch site, and rewrap the rest for later in the afternoon. This lace was so good, I stopped here again on my wayhome at the end of the weekend, too. This time I got the pesto pollo chicken. (Also delish and recommended.) read more

This is a fantastic, large conventional grocery store -- right next to the natural grocery store. I confess I rarely go into this market because I get what I need at their neighbor but I am so glad that both stores exist side by side. If you need charcoal - they have you covered! Booze? Ditto. Folks are friendly and if you're lucky - Todd will start baking bread again and usually stocks it at both stores. read more

This place is surprisingly packed with really great selections. They have everything you need in order to stock up on all your necessities and even beyond. We always find exactly the right items and even some more. They even have a pretty good makeup section if you forgot anything. It's nice and bright and the workers are quick and efficient. They deli and meat section has some fresh freshly made food as well which is very delicious. I highly recommend this location if you have forgotten anything or just need to do a casual grocery shopping. read more

Loved this clean and well stocked store. We stopped here for a restroom break and snacks. The bathrooms were clean. That's an A+ in my book since I've seen plenty of gross bathrooms around Northern CA (traveling for work). There's so much to choose from in the deli and hot food section. We were looking to get some deli sandwiches for a quick and easy lunch. I tried calling ahead to place an order, but no one picked up, and when I arrived in person, I understood why. They get quite busy at the deli counter here, and despite the multiple staff members busy working on all the orders, things don't move all that quickly. I was placing an order for four sandwiches and ended up being here for about half an hour from beginning to end. You can get some other grocery and household items while you wait, though, as this market is nicely stocked with a variety of necessary goods. I like that they have a mixture of brands, including some of the more niche/high-quality brands that you typically can't find in your local neighborhood grocery store. read more

Needed to get some sustenance while wine tasting in the area. Stopped in in Murphys Market and saw that they only had a small display of hot food. I asked if they made sandwiches and a patron offered, "the market down the road has great sandwiches." So off we went, got a delicious turkey sandwich on a Dutch crunch roll. Friendly people and nice selection. I appreciate them carrying locally raised grass fed Calveras cowgirl steak in the main market. I wish it was stocked more regularly. Please suggest it if you agree! The sushi is great quality and made daily. The main market has some natural things, but the natural market next door has more organic stuff. I understand they can't compete with large suppliers but it pains me to fill up a cart. If they just had more sales, I'd take advantage of them and wouldn't stop at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods on my way and save myself some time. I like to support the small town stores but if you're in a budget you'll notice the price difference if you're buying a lot. I just scrolled through a bunch of 1 star reviews from during the lockdowns. people were so proud to be reporting this small business for not policing customers about masks. I just wanted to say how bad they all look today having been so angry and nasty. Good for the store for not harassing or tackling regular people just buying food. Just stopped by this morning to grab a supplement that my acupuncturist recommended. The parking lot was covered in snow and there was a spot in front of the store next to another vehicle that was clear of snow, I parked and walked in the store and immediately received uncomfortable looks. No one greeted my husband and I, after a few minutes of looking around for the supplements I turned to ask the lady behind the counter if where I parked was a parking spot she said no and walked away. This was my first time in the store and I was disgusted by the mood! Fortunately I just happened to see what I needed. We paid and the cashier again just walked away, no Thank You or have a good day she just walked away!! Very Rude!! read more

Stopped by here on our way to a mini hiking retreat, the store is pretty big and has a lot of things. It is like one of the only stores in the area so the pricing a pretty high for most things. Some of the things were priced at double from the grocery. We did purchase some salmon and ribeye steak that were high quality. The employees were also very friendly, we were greeted when we walked in and our checkout service was pleasant. There is also ample parking in the lot. read more

The meat market is great and they have a good wine selection ~ of course! I also went to the Natural Store next door and was surprised at the well stocked selection. I fell in love with Murphys in this market over a quarter century ago because it was simple, pleasant and people were genuinely friendly. Returning recently, much of the old charm remains, though it now seems busier, a little more impersonal and a lot more expensive. But for a relatively small place they have a wide array of things- certainly all the basics in nearly all respects. Plus decent carts, an OK parking lot and an efficient layout. read more

We've been in the Sierra for 20 years and I've always loved this market. They are super clean, great selection and nice people! But I came here this week and found that they do not care about their customers. All of the cashiers were wearing this useless "shield"(see photo) as their "masks" - and mine obviously knew that I was uncomfortable as I backed up from her as she rung me up, and smirked at me the whole time. 2 of the customers (out of 6 or so in the store) wore no mask at all when Calaveras county has a higher rate of covid per 1000 than the Bay Area. If this businesses' "liberty"(and stupidity) is more important than giving a crap about the safety of their customers, I will not be back- ever. read more

Always hit and miss with small town grocery stores. Stopped in to pick up some beer and wine before getting pizzas from next door. The store has a decent selection of beer, wine, and general groceries as well as fresh produce. I also picked up some ice cream and a bagged salad to go with dinner. Staff were friendly and helpful, too. We were only in town for a couple days and eating out mostly, but we could easily have stocked up for the week here if we were cooking at home. read more

This store isn't requiring all shoppers to wear masks. A few months ago they were more strict but my last few visits there have been at least 10 to 15 people in there without masks. The corona virus is killing people every day and you would think businesses that are open would want to protect their customers. Not so, it seems, at Sierra Market. We hit this store when we are roaming around Murphy's and my kids want milk or juice. We also stumbled upon Nutcher milk from this store and it's good flavor milk that is not the ordinary flavor milk flavors. But we always find what we need whether it's snacks to keep the kids happy or stuff to keep mommy happy. Or go next door to the natural food market. Which is a little like sprouts and I love it. While the selection of vegetables isn't the largest, it's a small market, what do you expect, the people who work the register are all friendly and fast.
