I live in Ahwahnee. I live in a home own by a person in Fresno, three roommates, so to make it easier I have been paying the internet bill. Its due on the 21st , I paid it October 20th would have thought it paid for until November 21st. November 1st a Saturday they turned it off. Called service and they told me to call them Monday. Over priced junk Internet service provider that claims they were hacked. I'm caller 41 to see if my data was leaked which is no biggie as I use a VPN. Feel bad for those who didn't use one. Service is SLOW SLOW SLOW. Rep Erin Stonum told me I'd need to pay a $70 fee to get Internet hooked up 4/2016 I am paying over $30 a month for the 3MBP/S plan Good luck if I can get 500 KBP/S, on any given day and it has taken 2 days to upload a 18 minute YouTube video. YES, TWO DAYS. To upload 18 minutes of 480P video then techs complain that they can't see my Internet traffic. Haha, spy on my Tor and VPN how bouh dah?! On that note, I asked many reps how long this ISP keeps their records for which they didn't respond. Verizon Comcast etc all say how long they keep YOUR private records. Shady stuff. I agree with the other reviewers that the speed is crazy slow. Our upload speed is slower than dial up. They told us all of this before we signed up. They were honest about what we could expect and they weren't wrong. I'm giving them three stats because of their customer service. Clayton came to our house exactly when scheduled and was fantastic about putting the equipment where we wanted it and drilled the holes in the floor a little bigger as requested so we had room to run some other wires. He was fast, friendly and very professional. He was a pleasure to work with. read more

This is the worst internet company I have ever had to deal with. I am actually considering moving out of the area because of how expensive it is. I was able to get about 300Mbs down for $99.00 with the last two companies I used, $99.00 only gets me 25Mbs with Sierra. And thats when im not being throttled to 5Mbs while trying to download something. Their tech "service" is unreliable. They have no idea what they are talking about. They wont let me use my own router, so I have to pay extra for renting something I dont want. Plus they have their router IP locked to their own login. I cant even access the router information. The main office is only open on week days, so good luck complaining to their face if you work during the week. This company is a perfect example why monopolies are a dangerous thing. read more

Sierra telephone is the highest price telephone company in California and with the worst customer service I have ever had. When I had trouble with my telephone, I was told it was in my home and not in there delivery system. They told me I needed to plug in other parts on my phone lines, and charged me over $100 for the parts. I made 4 trips to their office in Oakhurst while trying to resolve the problem. After a month they sent someone out and concluded lighting had melted their telephone lines together. It took 2 more months for them to fix their lines so I could get service. I also told them my internet service was very slow. They said they would check it and haven't showed up yet to fix it. It has now been over over a year. read more

This has to be one of the worst service providers in the country. Their tech people are very nice and that's good because you will be talking to them often. We have to reboot our modem about once a day to have any speed at all. The problem is that they haven't ungraded their technology to match the needs of their customers. You can pay for the fastest download capacity and it won't make much of a difference because you are stuck with their outdated upload capacity. Good luck. read more

Sierra Tel is at a disadvantage due a mountain location, minimal population, and landscape. All points impact employment, trained employees, and customer demands. Sierra Tel has gotten better over the years, but still imposes dated service(s) on customers, indicative of a company enjoying, at one time, minimal competition. Tourists have been our savior. Hard to charge seasonal-pricing on accommodations when available Internet is nonexistent or minimalized in service(s). It is necessary to mention many locals do not boast tech-savvy knowledge (a woman asked what "Hulu" was in 2018), own current hardware or software (save mobile phones), or are aware of the advantages of (current) PCs. Sierra Tel operates in a rural location. TV ads illustrate the hurdles of Internet-access in rural areas. Usually wanting! Tech support, for example, is either understaffed or undertrained. You can get someone on the phone rarely when trouble rears. Phone keeps ringing, or wait-times are 15th century long. All this being said, it's WAY beyond time for Sierra Tel to step up Internet service--speeds and access specifically, and stop operating by 1995 standards. Stop the stuttering, hiccups, and drops. Perhaps current growth in the city (40 miles south) will put an end to mediocre service, tech support, and speed, sans $100 monthly charges (you must PAY for higher speeds, which a lot of people don't know--still). I would like to apologize to Sierra Telephone, on behalf of Gadsden R. You would think that someone as "knowledgeable" with technology with his Rasberry Pi board, Tor browser, VPN, and Ubuntu Linux Distro, he would have at least a basic understanding of what different internet packages mean. Or have a understanding of MB (Megabytes) and Mb (megabits) are. I would imagine if someone was going to attack their ISP for having slow speeds or not actually getting what they are supposed to be getting, they would at least know what they are talking about. You see, Gadsden lacks this basic understanding. He did not pay for 3MBP/s (which isn't even how it's written out). He instead is paying for the 4Mbps package. Because Sierra Telephone doesn't sell a 3 Megabytes Per Second package. They sell a 4 Megabits Per Second package. Which if you do the math, he is actually is getting exactly what he is paying for. Every ISP sells their internet as up to; never guaranteed. If you wanted guaranteed internet speed, pay for a T1. read more

This ISP is the WORST. They get you locked in to a contract and you pay for 6 Mb/s but they only deliver .2 Mb/s!!! They try to blame it on your hardware and make up excuses and never solve the problem. OVERPRICED & they don't give you nearly the speed you sign up for. Aside from their friendly staff, this monopolistic ISP is the worst I've experienced. It has the slowest and most expensive Internet connection around, and unfortunately I know it's never going to get better because they don't have any competition. Worst ISP you could EVER use, the service is a joke. Most of the time they blame any issues with your equipment. And, this is after we have had a tech out to check the line who also agreed that the house signal looked good. You can't ever call the Mariposa office for assistance, they don't have a single competent tech (I think they hire from the high school). Save yourself the headaches and trouble, GET SATELLITE. It may be a bit slower with the ping, but will save you tons of headaches of dealing with a poor company like sierra tel. The only reason they received one star is because the scale doesn't go any lower. read more

Yes they have a monopoly but my service has worked well and the customer service is A-1 with live and local help. I would give them 5 stars but prices are a bit high and speeds are not what you would get in the city but the personal touch can't be matched anywhere. read more
