When visiting, I would highly recommend doing the tour. It is very informative and fun. After the tour, he had to try their products. Everything tasted phenomenal! They definitely have a very high caliber of rum, which is now widely available in the state of Florida and soon to be distributed internationally. In the tasting room, you can purchase their products as well as other promotional items and they had free recipes. My favorites are the spiced rum and the coconut rum. They also have a limited release of a barrel reserve rum. Definitely check them out! It's a little off the beaten path and minimal parking. Right! So we came upon this lovely spot with a local tour guide! We were here with the first group, first thing in the morning! So...you get to sample rum in the tasting room as soon as you walk in...as many samples as you can handle!! :) Then they give you a tour of the facility and talk about all the special things that go into making everything that you have just tasted! So that leads you back to where it all began so you can taste more rum...now that its extra special and you feel like part of the family...then guess what!!??!! You are feel somewhat compelled to buy as many bottles of rum as you are allowed! (there is a special way to do that too!)...And, YES! I did buy some bottles of rum, I mean, what else was I supposed to do!?! Especially when they offer limited edition bottles that I can only get in the tasting room!. We toured the distillery with a group from our Arbor Grande community and had a great time. The presentation was entertaining and informative. Siesta Key is crafting some very unique, tasty rums flavored with 100 percent natural ingredients. The distillery is also working on some limited release rums aged in Port wine or beer barrels from local breweries. After the rum is bottled the barrels are returned to the brewery to make rum flavored beers. What a cool way for our local businesses to support one another. Visit the tasting room for samples of rum and a variety of rum soaked cakes. Delicious!! read more

The bf planned a trip for the first time so I wasn't too surprised when he suggested we go on a tour of a rum distillery. The majority of the magic happens in the main room which you see when you first walk in so there wasn't much walking involved. The owner was very entertaining and made the tour, which lasted a little longer than an hour, go by quickly. Once the talking is over, you make your way over to the tasting room where you can sample all of the rums they have available at that time. Reading the other reviews, I knew I had to try the toasted coconut, but tried not to get my hopes up since it's not always available. Lucky for us, they had it! Spiced gold - You can taste so many different spices in one little sip, it's unlike any other spiced rum I've tried. The bf typically isn't a fan of spiced rum, but he liked this one so much he bought a bottle. Silver - This is supposed to be used for mixed drinks since it has no flavor. They made a mini drink in the tasting room with some pineapple juice and ginger ale and I couldn't even tell there was alcohol in it. Very smooth. Toasted coconut - You can definitely tell that they use fresh coconut, so much flavor! I also think it's hilarious (and ingenious) that they found a go-around to some laws by making different labels. I had my pick and chose the dolphin label. Overall, I can see why Siesta Key Rum has won so many awards. Delicious! read more

As you make your way to the Siesta Key Rum Distillery you may think to yourself "why am I passing a junkyard right now"? Or "damn, I'm lost. This GPS is horrible". These are all valid points but not to fear you are headed in the right direction and soon you will see that glorious wooden sign that says "TASTING ROOM". When you open the doors to the distillery you are immediately right where the magic happens. It just so happens I was there in March so I was greeted by an enormous empty bottle tree decorated with a rainbow and other leprechaun garb. To your immediate right is the tasting room. We were greeted with by a very enjoyable, knowledgeable young lady that was great to talk to while we stood and threw back some shots of straight rum! Siesta Key currently has 6 different types of rum of which their toasted coconut and silver are my favorite. They sell them all on premises as well as other merchandise. I bought a bottle of the toasted coconut and got to pick my bottle design, a percentage of the bottle sales went to benefit whichever animal (bottle) you picked. (It was a tough call between the shark and the turtle but the turtle came out triumphant). This distillery has some smooth rums.. if your in the area and looking for something cool to do, swing by for some good drinks and even better conversation. read more

It's a small facility, but, can't say enough about the staff. They are extremely knowledgeable And friendly. The place is clean and well stocked. They gave a good tour and a free sampling of their product. Have been drinking their rum for about 2 years and found it to be very good for a small batch operation. Everything is hands on. Even the bottling process, label adhesion and numbering. They have a Reserve that is ages and is quite good. Rhiannon only available at the source. The owners are kind and proud of their product; they happily shared their knowledge of the various rums offered and allowed us to taste each one before the grand distillery tour. I stopped by to pick up a bottle of the beer barrel aged rum a while back and was able to sample their product line in the tasting room. I've been to the Bacardi Factory in Puerto Rico too, Siesta Key Run Factory was way more informative on the actual process of making rum. Siesta Key Rum's tour was 100% free, with a free tasting. We tasted the Sliver rum, spiced rum, toasted coconut rum, their new up and coming coffee rum, and their gold rum. All of them tasted great! We stocked up on a couple bottles - the coffee and the silver. They sell the plastic protectors so you can stick in your checked luggage. Do not miss the rum cake either. So you want to try some very good, if not the best rum on the planet. The place to go is Siesta Key distillery. My wife and I started at the tasting room where Audrey and Kevin where pouring all of the flavors available. They both were very enthusiastic and made the beginning of the tour fun. Of course getting free liquor makes everything better ;p Lol. We then went to where they start the process of making the rum. Audrey started off the first part of the tour with a short history of how Siesta Key Rum started and became the best rum available. She was very animated in a good way. Made everyone laugh and feel very comfortable. Then Kevin explained the process for making rum. He too was very energetic and funny as well. My wife and I learned a lot about the history and the process of making rum. We then went back to the tasting room for one last drink. Far away from the glistening powder-white sands of Lido & Siesta Keys, miles from the trendy shopping of St. Armand's Circle, in this nondescript warehouse district of north Sarasota can be found some of the world's best rum. Yes, you read that correctly. Drum Circle Distilling's "Siesta Key" brand has been winning accolades throughout the spirits world since launching Florida's craft rum renaissance in the early part of the decade. Caribbean Journal regularly fawns over the Siesta Key label, and even Wine Enthusiast has given high marks. I've said it before and I will say it again - I have a habit of visiting distilleries when given the chance, and have been on several tours. If you've been on one distillery tour, you've been on all of them, for the most part. Distillation is what it is. Still (see what I did there), take the tour here on your first visit, as you will learn about Siesta Key's various products, and the unique things done by this distillery to distinguish its rums from every other rum out there. Once finished with the tour, progress to the tiki-themed tasting room, where you will be afforded the ability to taste each of the core brands, completely free of charge, as many times as you want. Yes, free. But they know. They know that you will become a fan, and will be buying bottles......so don't think you're getting out of here without lightening your wallet a bit. You won't, trust me on that. You will be buying bottles, AND slices of the fantastic rum cake sold here as well. Typically, the White, Gold, Spiced, and if you're lucky, Toasted Coconut varieties will be on hand for you to taste and buy. On occasion, if you get really lucky, bottles of the extra-special releases will be available for purchase. On a recent charmed visit a few months ago, I was able to snag a bottle of the Distillers Reserve Solera Blend spiced rum. Back to the core brands, though, as these are the bottles that will typically be found at the distillery: -SK Silver Rum: this is a simple white rum, perfect for mojitos or punches. It's also quite smooth. I don't often go for drinking white rum straight, but here, it's surprisingly enjoyable. -SK Gold Rum: an excellent gold that will go well in your Cuba Libres, Dark & Stormys or any other cocktail that calls for a more bold rum base. Once again, smooth and more drinkable than I expect from a gold. In particular, Bacardi Gold burns going down and tastes like gasoline. At a similar price point, the Siesta Key is miles better, so there's no excuse for buying Bacardi's swill. SK Spiced Rum: In short, the best spiced rum out there. I swear that with the infusion of real spices, it tastes a bit like pumpkin pie, but please taste it and draw your own conclusions. There is a little sweetness from added honey, so when mixing keep this in mind so as not to over-sweeten with other mixers. It's very versatile in cocktails - great in pina coladas, punches, flips....pretty much whatever you want. Blend it with frozen fruit and ice. Mix it with lemonade. All amazing. SK Toasted Coconut: This is the one everyone wants. Flavored rum is a maligned category in the serious spirits world, and for good reason, as most of these rums taste sickeningly artificial (think Bacardi Grand Melon). Not so here, as this rum sees an infusion of actual toasted coconut flakes. Honey is also added in just the right quantity for a tinge of welcome sweetness. If nothing else, please taste this rum if given the opportunity. For mixing, I actually prefer the spiced rum to this one, but I could also better enjoy this one straight, with an ice cube. For any lover of fine spirits, a must stop on jaunts to Florida's west coast. read more

I fully credit Bahama Bob from Key West's Rum Bar at the Speakeasy Inn for introducing me to Siesta Key rums. Without a doubt, they are some of the best I've ever tasted. Apart from the fact that they make the perfect base for a mean pina colada, their rums are so exceptionally smooth that they really are great by themselves too. Don't believe me? Fair enough, but I'm not the only one. They've won numerous awards, the Caribbean Journal gives them top marks (http://www.caribjournal.com/2016/07/03/rum-journal-best-rums-america-2016/), and Wine Enthusiast magazine gave their solera aged Distiller's Reserve Spiced rum was given 94 points. While their increased popularity means easier access to their rums across the country, sometimes it is nice to go to the source. Like many local breweries and distilleries, Drum Circle is located in a warehouse district. Entering the facility you are faced with massive tanks and a wall of barrels (actually far less than I'd expect for their distribution). Then off to the right is a tiki-looking room which houses the tasting room and shop. Tours are free, and quite informative. It is interesting to learn about their process, and what goes into making each of their regular rums, as well as the special release beer barrel-aged versions. After the tour (or before), the tasting room is available to welcome patrons, offering solo and mixed sips to enjoy the true flavor of the rums. In my opinion, all of their rums are exceptional, but my favorites are always the spiced rum and the coconut. The toasted coconut rum can be harder to come by than the other varietals, but the reason is that they infuse their rum with real shredded coconut (Read: NO artificial flavors or sweeteners). I'd heard a rumor that since the coconut can clog filters only smaller batches are produced, and accordingly, it can be tough to find in stores. Although lately our local Miami Total Wine seems to have a steady supply, it is definitely worth picking up a bottle while you're there if you're not certain you can get it nearby. In addition to bottles of the rum itself, the tasting room/giftshop sells Bahama Bob's rum recipes cocktail book and slices of decadent rum-drenched cakes. I'd strongly suggest both. On our last trip we only snagged a single slice of coconut rum cake, and we regretted the decision the minute we finished it. So definitely swing by Drum Circle to pay homage to one of the best rum distilleries around, and even if you can't make it over to Sarasota, I'd still suggest snagging a bottle from your local Publix or Total Wine. They really up the rum ante for everyone else.
