I found this gem through Yelp although I walk past it every day from the Pinnacle property to the beach. After reading several reviews, we decided to give it a try for dinner. We were not disappointed. It's a small restaurant & we opted to sit inside at the bar. I had the mango mojito & my cousin had a white sangria & both were delicious. We shared the coconut shrimp which is presented on a whimsical mini clothesline, croquettes & tuna tartare. I would rank them as the croquettes as my favorite of the three, followed by the coconut shrimp then the tuna tartare. They had one special of the day, risotto with shrimp & asparagus, which was delicious. We saved room for dessert & packed the risotto leftovers (benefit of staying in a condo is a full kitchen to reheat food & laundry). Por español, entiendo mucho! ...Pero hablar no es bueno... So there was a lot of switching back and forth and our server was flawless at both. I even surprised myself responding back in spanish and english throughout the night. Best view of local nightlife and a gorgeous man inside and out across from me. We got menus and looked over quite a variety. I went with the falafel, and wow was it a great plate, fresh veggies, great seasoning and we got complimentary pickled goodness + olives while we waited. On vacation here in Puerto Vallarta and randomly decided to walk into this place and wow, it was a vibe! Initially, we were aiming for a table outside but got seated inside (outside was full). Turned out to be the best thing, honestly. The place has this relaxed feel that's perfect for a small group or just a chill date. We had just finished eating some tacos down the street and we weren't really in the mood for a whole meal so we decided to go with some small desserts instead. The "postre de la casa," which turned out to be an exceptional homemade cheesecake topped with fresh berries was so bomb. The flan was also spot-on, delivering that perfect blend of creamy texture and flavor. As for the drinks, the mision drink and the cucumber margarita were so good (we got a good buzz going after just one each). Our waiter made our night even better. He was super friendly and patient, answering all our questions and giving great recommendations. He was just super chill and was the perfect blend of attentive and not overbearing. Though the place is a bit on the small side, it's absolutely worth it. It wasn't as packed as other places, but honestly, it deserves to be bustling. The place is very small. Definitely have a reservation.. we went on Monday night and there was a 90 min wait. Our table was outside and there is not enough room for people to get by so people were bumping into one of our diners constantly as it was close to the door. A few were overweight and rude so it was annoying to say the least. But the rest was great. Service was excellent, Monday night they have a great tapas deal, however, I went for the Coconut Shrimp starter followed by a very good pepperoni and mushroom pizza. Another diner had the gespacho soup and said it was just OK. Pizza is good for 2 people and I'd recommend sharing some of their smaller plates, they should consider looking into the abandoned Kitty Cat restaurant next door.l..as it seems bigger. For what we are it was a great value for the quality of the food and service. The staff really does take care of you. We started off with the Sandia Mediterranea. This oh so refreshing salad started off the meal perfectly. It had the perfect combination of flavors and nothing was too overpowering in it. Wish I can have eat this all day because wow it was great! Then moved onto tempura. Which was almost like authentic Chinese tempura which was nice and light on the batter and but still golden. Also had the Spanish croquettes which were nice and creamy but still very delicious. They were fried to perfection where it was not too soft or not to crispy and still allows the filling to be creamy. Also the amazing cheese plate which had the perfect amount of cheese and others on the plate. This had the perfect amount of sweet and savory to it with the right combination of fruits, cheese and nuts. Okay now let's talk about the dipping and spreads which were my favorite and star of all the dishes. It added the perfect touch to each dish. They are all so flavorful and tasty we needed more. We found this hidden gym, just a half a block from our condo. It is a tapas type of restaurant with incredible quality and all the ingredients are fresh. The watermelon salad is incredible! The service is top Notch and the cocktails are perfect, one of the best margaritas I've had since I've been in Puerto Vallarta! If I could give it more than five stars, I would! Benjamin led us through the menu and he was spot on on his recommendations. Small menu, but everything is well done! They were very good at explaining what their special is without us having to ask Food: 4/5 we ordered the Guacamole which was good but they had too many garnishes on it so it made it hard to eat. We visited this place on a Friday during peak dinner hours without a reservation and despite the restaurant being fully booked, the owner asked us if our family of five would be comfortable sitting on the bar. We gladly accepted and the bar was perfect for my husband, myself and our 3 teenagers. We ordered sangria, cheese pizza, tendedero shrimp, calamari, guacamole, croquettes and turuletos and they all tasted amazing! The food was served quickly and both the presentation and quality of the food were excellent. I was able to catch tapas night each time (Mondays) where you just grab whatever tapas you want for I believe 30 pesos each. This is the exception. This is a small restaurant with 5 tables indoors and 4 outside. The atmosphere is authentic fishing village small town Mexico. When seated outside , you are on a sidewalk with a pleasant view. Local vendors will politely proffer goods to seated patrons such as flowers, handmade dolls, etc... You May also engage in friendly banter with locals who know the place well and come for the friendly atmosphere and EXCELLENT CUISINE. Try your Spanish and they will politely answer you in their best English. ATMOSPHERE = 4.5 stars Came here on our first night in Puerto Vallarta and followed my waiters ( Benjamin) recommendations. Benjamin brought and refilled water, made excellent suggestions, and provided appropriate history of the restaurant and chef. 1. Spinach salad w/ goat cheese, pear, bacon, sesame and Carmel used nuts. VERY GOOD TASTE. price EXCELLENT at $5. 2. Seared sliced Tuna rolled in sesame with kale, peas and asparagus. Served with a soy-ginger sauce. EXCELLENT at about $10. 3. Lemon cheesecake with berries and a gram cracker crust. DIVINE! I believe the "berries" were currants and the provided a lovely complement to this dish. About $4.50 4. Double espresso with dessert. Perfect at $2. Food = 4.5 stars. Service = 5 stars. Benjamin also provided ( gratis) a red hummus appetizer and his suggestions were spot on. He further informed me that the chef made everything from scratch. Most cannot do both - I.e. bake and prepare cuisine. This is the exception! The chef, whom I met while waiting for the restroom, knew everything I'd ordered, and asked me to critique each dish. We had a lovely conversation although he was obviously busy. I felt completely at home and welcome. Hospitality = 5 stars. Value = off the charts. My husband & I had dinner here after discovering that we were too wiped out from our day of ATV adventures to wander far from our hotel. 116 Pulpito was one of the higher-rated restaurants in the vicinity, and on the advice of the waiter, we ordered the tenderos (I think? The coconut fried shrimp), bacon-wrapped shrimp with blue cheese, croquettes, & my husband ordered a pizza with pepperoni, bacon, & some other kind of meat (I don't recall exactly). The coconut shrimp is "plated", er... interestingly, with each shrimp dangling from a mini clothesline. This was entertaining, although the shrimp itself was pretty overcooked, and there wasn't much coconut flavor going on. The bacon-wrapped shrimp was a bit less overcooked (only slightly), but I wasn't a huge fan of the shrimp-and-blue-cheese combo. Yes, I ordered it knowing that it was on there. I knew it would probably not be a winning combo. But I doubted myself, and it was the wrong call. So that one is on me. The little potato croquettes were easily my favorite thing that we tried. They're served in a plate made to look like an egg carton (so cute!), and with a basil aioli shot out of a whipped-cream canister. I was into this gimmick, apparently, and the little croquettes themselves were delicious-- super airy & fluffy in the center. I only had a couple bites of pizza, and it was alright I guess-- nothing to write home about, and the bacon on it was not terribly cooked, so it turned sort of rubbery. Beverage-wise, I enjoyed a sangria that surprised me by arriving in a mason jar larger than my head. It wasn't super strong, which was decidedly for the best-- it's ginormous. And tasty! Overall, we didn't really need to revisit this one, but were glad we satisfied our curiosity. I also learned a valuable lesson re: trusting my gut & just never, ever ordering the thing with seafood & bleu. read more
