This is THE dive bar in Boston. The drinks are cheap, my favourite in particular is the $7 pitchers of PBR, a pool table, free darts (you have to get there early to get a spot though, and by early I mean 7ish) and free buttered popcorn. Its awesome. When you go, tip the bartenders well, they work hard and they're never mean. Cash only. The 57 and 66 bus stop right across the street. Even if its a little out of your way, if you're someone in their 20's, you most likely know someone that lives in the area where you can crash if you miss the last bus. read more

Cheeba is right on. I only disagree with the music-sure, it ain't no Zuzus or Charlie's Kitchen jukebox, but I have found myself rediscovering songs I forgot I love and then when I stumble home download them and listen to them the next day (who knew I loved Tom Petty's American Girl so much?). The perfect background for playin darts-I hardly ever sit at the booth and have never sat at the table or bar-I prefer the back dartboard room where the lil window is easy access for cheap ass pitchers and giant tubs of popcorn (I have the stomach of an old man and never had a problem with it) for FREE, bisnatch! I've been once and was extremely disappointed. They water down their beer, and the waitress took half an hour to come take our order for beers. Recently heard of a friend who was physically abused by a bouncer because she simply walked in when no one was there to greet at the door, so much so that she had to call the police. Dingy and dirty, unsavory crowd. Never stepping foot in this establishment again and will warn every person looking for bars to go to not to come here. Worst bar ever in Allston. read more

Man, this place seemed to have serious potential but appears to be struggling with some sort of identity crisis. There were local punks and artsy types of the 20-30 year old range, however, there were some 40-50 year old dads in the back dominating pool and a bunch of college kids playing darts in another section. The music was HORRIBLE. I'm talking two Star Wars tracks back to back, a weird cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, Lynard Skynard, and FREEBIRD. The worst of it was there was one of those electronic jukeboxes and people kept putting in money so the music would change but it just kept playing the same crap. Numerous people were asking the bartenders to override it somehow and they just blew us off. I hate these jukeboxes in the first place as they always just steal your money and never play your song. This bar should get rid of the jukeboxes all together. I wanna hear what music the bartenders listen to...or maybe they just love Star Wars. read more

Ahhh the Silhouette... You know how much the Boston bar scene sucks when you can count the number of bars that offer darts AND pool on one hand. Hell you'd think there's a law in Boston against bars with a decent pool table. Well, this one has them both. And it has free popcorn! I know! What!? Why aren't I here all the time? Great dive!! I often hit this place up after going to the classier places in Allston (ok, there are no classy places in Allston but you get the idea). They have free darts and popcorn, beer by the pitcher, and as low key a feeling as you can find anywhere. The only negative is that they close at 1am, though they will let you hang out well past 1. Hilarious dive bar in Allston. The "famous" faces painted on the outside really provide no clue to what it's like inside. There are like no windows and the crowd is interesting, but this the only place of its kind in Allston. Small bar but there is some foosball or pool or somethin to play and TVs. Go with a friend or 2 to drink and chill, but you could just as easily hang at your house with some friends. The silhouette is everything that is good and right about a "dive" bar. There is cheap beer, free darts, big buck hunter and great company. One new year's eve my friends and I were looking for a bar to hang out at (didn't really plan ahead). All the allston bars were charging 30-50 bucks to get in and hang out with a bunch of college kids in pink polo shirts. Finally we ended up at the Sil, where we were welcomed in at no charge and handed free champagne as we entered. This is how bars should be. The bartenders are great too. I'm a dame who loves a good dive bar, and the Silhouette Lounge delivers. Cheap beer, free popcorn, darts (!), and a pool table complete the look of this fine establishment. There was even "Shark Week" on the TV at the bar! The crowd has a variety of people in it. Hipsters, kitchen workers, and washed up jocks abound here. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because of the service. The bartender was not friendly or engaging at all. She had the haggard look of hard living and seemed like all of my beer ordering for myself and my friends inconvenienced her. I like giving my hard earned money to people that appreciate it-I used to work in the industry, so I always tip decently- and a simple smile or "thank you" would suffice. read more

Absolutely one of the best bar's in Boston (Allston). I started going to Silhouettes back in 2006 because my best friend lived right up the road. I recently visited a few months ago, along with a bunch of other places I used to hang out at and was relieved to find that it has remained completely unchanged! Talking to some of the old timers it seems this place hasn't changed in decades which is awesome. It still smells like stale beer, has plenty of bar games available and Narragansett on tap by the pitcher. If you're looking for authentic come here for a beer...or 15. read more

This is the best dive bar in Boston. The beer is cheap, you spend a little money and get drunk with your dudes. What's more, they also offer the free popcorn for you. This place cracks me up. There is always the same crowd of dedicated PBR drinkers. I go to play darts, which I am oh so not good at, but it is fun. My friend likes the fact that they have the scratch ticket machine. I like the fact that they give you free popcorn. They have a back door for people who enjoy that type of stuff. read more

This is a great bar. It is small, and it has a "dirty feel" to it, but it is actually rather clean. It makes an effort to have that apperance without actually being dirty. Free popcorn is excellent. You can get pitchers all night with your friends and eat popcorn forever. They never complain about refilling the popcorn either no matter how much you eat. They have a bunch of dart boards in their own seperate area. As far as I know it is the only bar that has this. If you want to play darts I highly reccomend this place. At the few other bars that even have darts you always have a person standing in the way that you have to ask to move before playing, and even when they move you still worry about hitting them. Not so here. Pool, buck hunter, golden tee 2010, and sketchy ATM with a $2.50 fee are all present. Fun times. Pretty busy every day of the week. More on weekends, though. read more

A friend of mine was told to "turn around" by a bouncer on 10/28/16. She felt extremely uncomfortable, and after confronting said bouncer, was told to leave the premises. The bouncer on question denied any accusations upon brief confrontation. He threatened to hit our party, and the rest of us were denied entry. Will not return. read more

I spent alot of nights here and i certainly dont miss it, except for the regulars who were mostly my friends but then the other regulars who they befriended. I once met a man name t-bone who told me about losing his mothers house, later that week i read in the herald he was arrested for something only someone with the name t-bone could be arrested for. Then there was a guy who had a girls name tattooed on his face and had just gotten out of jail for robbing a bank, i bought him a drink and then went to the pizza place next door and bought a empanada to sober up and run far far away. I walked to this bar with my friends and noticed there was no bouncer at the door. I walked in and headed for one of a few open seats at the bar when I felt someone grab my shoulder. It was a door bouncer and he yelled at me to wait outside. I decided not to be rude back and pulled out my license to show him, and he just stared at me and then told me they were over capacity and I had to wait. We walked down the side of the building and then watched one person leave. He then let in a party of five people who just walked up. We left and went to another bar. The bouncer on Friday nights is an old gym junkie who amounted to nothing in life, so he enjoys his power trip from working at a cheap bar. Would not recommend to anyone. read more

What a great dive bar. Cheap beer, pool, darts, decent music, and plenty of drinkers. I rarely wait more than a few minutes to get a drink at the bar, even if it is fairly crouded. Bars tend to focus on different things such as music, ambience, billiards, beer selection, etc to separate them from other bars. The Silhouette focuses on drinking, and that sets it apart. This place is amazing. my partner and I just moved to allston and on our first nights were spent in search for a good place to drink cheap beer and shoot some pool. this place was ideal and we've spent many a nights doing just that. generally, people have been pretty nice and respectful and open to seeing new faces around their favorite hangout (which has become our favorite hangout) but I would be wary of self righteous and self aggrandizing shit heads. My friends and I were three pitchers deep on a Saturday night when some "trendy" pseudo punk karen o lookalike who "worked there" (although we've been there many times and actually never seen her work there) accosts us with the following; " are you all drinking or just holding real estate? Because I have friends who would love to sit down and DRINK and if ya'll wanna do us a favor and just talk you can do that by the bar, this isn't a fucking library" Meanwhile, we were three pitchers deep and my partner was actually at the bar ordering a fourth.
