I love the Silhouette because coming here means I don't have to try. If that turns you off, so be it; if it turns you on, come on down! Just keep in mind that they have a relatively early closing time and no climate control whatsoever in the dart room. I feel like the glasses have been washed out with light beer, the seats and tables wiped with the same paper towel, and the videogames bought from a prison auction. I love this place. You probably wouldn't know it, but I'm a dive bar kinda gal. I love the seedy bars, the seedy bathrooms and cheap beer. But for some reason this bar never seemed to grab me. I worked down the street, and lived around the corner, but only made it here once- on a St. Patrick's day pub crawl. I must say... we were on a 2 hour break from work, and tried to cram in all the Allston bars... that for $3 or $4 we got a soco and lime shot that was pretty much... all soco. Cheap pitchers? Check. Free popcorn? Check. Darts? Check. This place is the perfect dive bar and a great place to hang out. The bartenders are all super friendly and there is an awesome jukebox on the wall where you can pick what music you want to hear for a small fee (R. Kelly anyone?) Only downside is the cash only situation which is why I am not giving the full five stars. I never carry cash and its really a pain to use an ATM prior to coming here, I know there are fees with taking credit cards but come on people its 2015! read more

I love this bar. Before I began living in Boston, I loved coming here every time when I came up to visit from Virginia. This is a great place to go with friends to blast some music and get stinkin drunk. It's cheap and dirty as hell. High Life bottles are 2 dollars each and you can get a pitcher of that or PBR for 7 bucks. There's the barroom with a pool table, and then another room for darts. They have a jukebox with a pretty decent selection of tunes. If you bully it you'll single handedly change the scene of the bar. We would always blast a whole bunch of Maiden and Pantera, and just plow through pitchers of Pabst. If you go on a weekend night though, bring some girls with you because it can get crowded and you may need leverage to get in. If you want to drink for cheap with friends, this place is great. read more

So I might be a bit biased as I've been coming here since the moment I turned 21 (literally), but I absolutely adore the Sil. Cheap (and strong) drinks, free popcorn and darts, and one of the most eclectic crowds in Allston. These folks know how to treat their regulars and the charm and warmth of the bartenders (and doorstaff) will keep you coming back. And let me tell you, the ladies' room may be covered in graffiti, but it is far cleaner than most 'high-end' bars you might go to. I've met life-long friends here and had more wild nights than I could ever count. When I lived in Allston, I deemed this bar "The Bar of Requirement" because it's a bar that can only exist in Allston and you only remember it just when you need it. Cheap PBR? Check. Free munchies? For real... I give it a 4 stars just based off the drinks alone. This place is pretty healthy I must say but its definitely a bit small for what it is, but its definitely a must go to spot. It has 1 pool table in the back, which is cool, and they serve popcorn inwhich in say huh! but its whatever... i like it, haha The only 2 things that suck are the parking but the location is great cause there are other bars, venues, and etc places around there. 2nd, no credits but they do have an atm inside the bar. read more

Everything that is wrong with Allston exists in this place... Doormen with attitudes and whimsical entrance policies, divey ambiance that doesn't translate into lower priced drinks. All these bad reviews are from people who don't know how to have fun. The silhouette is one of my favorite bars of all time, and I go to a lot of bars all over the country. Just a great vibe, music is always good (more grungy/punk), the pool is competitive and fun, and there's 4 dart boards. Also, pitchers of PBR are $9 and there's free popcorn. I don't really know what more you could want out of a bar. Yes, as reviewers have said, the silhouette is a dive bar, but the best bars are. If you don't like a good dive bar, you are very lame and I don't want to party with you. Seriously, go to the silhouette. read more

Mad dart boards, free popcorn and $7 PBR pitchers transforms any dive bar into a "Lounge"

In the past month or so, I have tried to offer my patronage to the Silhouette Lounge three times, excited to drink some beer, play some darts, and partake in the well-known free popcorn. The first time, I went with a few friends, on a weekend, at around midnight. We started to walk in, only to have the bouncer tell us that the bar was too full and that he could only let two of us in. My friend went in to use the bathroom, and I went in while she was doing so in order to check the place out. It seemed fine, nothing special really, and it definitely, definitely, was not too crowded for my rather small group of friends (five of us). However, the bouncer seemed stressed because some guys were causing trouble, so I decided to let it go, and try again later. The next time, I arrived around 1 a.m. on a Friday night with my boyfriend. We opened the door, and some greasy looking young man told us that last call was at 1 a.m., and that we couldn't come in. Let it be known that we were coming from a hipster-themed birthday party, so there's no way that we were turned away based on not looking "the part." The same thing happened to me last night. Only it was before 1 a.m. I tried to go in with three friends, and the same greasy looking man told us that last call was at 1 a.m., and that we couldn't come in. My friend asked why the door was open if it was already last call, and the greasy man pretended to be confused and said that the door should have been locked. He walked with us to the door and pressed the handle twice, as if that would lock the door, and gave us a snarky, fake-apologetic look. He closed the door on us, and needless to say, it still wasn't locked. I will never go back here. The pretentious staff can bite me, and I'll go to one of the many other bars around, and make myself some Pop Secret when I get home. read more

Maybe I need to give this place another chance, but from what I've seen, it pretty much blows. Drinks are cheap. That's great! What's not great is the limit on the number of people inside. What's up with that? As I was waiting outside to get in one night in the pouring rain (and I was the only person waiting), the bouncer came up to me finally. "You with anyone?" he said. "Yeah, I've got friends at a table inside," I replied. "That's not what I meant," he said ever so slyly and then finally let me in and proceeded to stare uncomfortably. First of all, FUCK OFF DUDE. You made me wait outside while other people got in and then proceed to creepily hit on me? Also, this place shut down at 12:45 on a Friday night. Um, is that right? I don't think so. I just ended up going to The Model instead. I put $5 in the jukebox at Silhouette not knowing their "curfew" and they shut it off and I didn't get my money back. Also the selection they have is very questionable. The Replacements and....Gordon Lightfoot? What?! I give this 3 stars because of the smoking porch outside, which is really nice. I'll try back again sometime because everyone else tells me it's a fun place. Maybe it was just a bad night. read more

I love this place. I try to go early on not on weekends because it has a healthy college scene (not my thing) but early on or weekdays this is a mellow place to grab a pitcher and hang or play pool or listen to a whacky mix on the jukebox. Im extremely pleased that this bar is on the corner of my street. Its a legit dive bar that I can really get into. The crowd is always interesting, the pitchers are cheap, there's a few tvs, a pool table, and darts. Also, you can't forget to mention the smoking area in the back. I only agreed to go here because we were meeting up with a friend to congratulate him on an accomplishment, otherwise it's pretty easy to see that if you shouldn't step through these doors.
