Really tasty food and very polite, welcoming staff. One of the best meals I had in Hagerstown. The menu offers lots to choose from and everything we got was really flavorful. Beef pad see eiw and the pad Thai were both great. Many people in the staff came by individually to welcome us and make sure our meal was good and asked if there was anything else they could do to help us out. It's been more than a year since my last review at this place, so here's an update. This establishment continues to have the same good feel in space between seats, indoor temperature and surroundings. Still a very good place to have good authentic Thai food. I've been here a couple of times since my 2023 review when I'm in this part of the country. I return because it's on the top of my list of Asian food places in the MD/VA/DC/WV/PA area. The noticeable difference is the price increases, which is expected as the economy stinks and got worse in the last year. Prices are up here about 22-23% since my last review. But I'm pleased to rereport the portion sizes are up a bit too. The prices are fair now for the quality and portion size you get. I inquired and learned new owners took over in September 2023, a few months after they arrived in the USA from Thailand. Wanting to meet the higher costs of everything and stay in business, prices rose a bit. The food is definitely worth the price. Very tasty. The husband/wife owners are willing to please the best they can and within reason. This trip we had the tom yum soup - the best tasting I've had anywhere, my friend had won ton soup, also great, with a perfect mix of crispy vegetables and homemade won tons. We both had separate orders of ssummer rolls. They were packed with veggies and the peanut sauce is addictive! I had the bamboo garden main meal. It was fantastic with an amazing sauce, with a touch of lime juice that kicks in at just the right time. My only disappointment is the cost of the salads. $11 for a salad is too expensive for my taste. I learned the new owners removed the regular house salad from the menu because not many people ordered it. As a former owner of multiple businesses. I think that is a silly decision since the house salad has the same vegetables and peanut sauce already on hand for other dishes, so not allowing it on the menu means a loss of potential sales for something that doesn't cost more to have on the menu. Not sure how business is done in Thailand but I assume it's the same concept I espoused. Overall there is a definite improvement since my last review when under the previous owners and the food was already good. Now the food is good or even better and the portions are better sized for the price. I highly recommend this establishment. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by here on our road trip and it was pretty empty on a Sunday for lunch. Food was honestly quite good overall. We got the Basil Wings, Crab Rangoon, Tom Kha Soup with Chicken and Pad See Ew with Shrimp and Pork. The wings were crispy, juicy and flavorful. The rangoons were done very well too! My boyfriend felt that the pad see ew was a little too saucy but I personally didn't mind it. The noodles were extra chewy. The only thing that I really didn't like was the server... She kept trying so hard to sell more stuff us. We would order and then she would list off like 10 more items on their menu and ask if we wanted to add those. Every time she came back, she'd ask if we'd like to order more. It was honestly so annoying. She also would mumble/speak so quiet. Overall, food was good but service was annoying. read more

Great local Thai food. The spicy dumplings were very flavorful. The Tom kha soup was creamy and delicious. The pad tbai with glass noodles is moist and peanutty. The drunken noodles are a bit sweet but juicy and yummy. The service is fast and very friendly. Plenty of parking. Will come back to try some other dishes. read more

I placed an order for lunch today for pick up. I ordered panang curry with chicken, drunken noodles, and crab rangoon. I have ordered all 3 of these items countless times- not only from this particular restaurant but also various other Thai restaurants. When I got home and opened the drunken noodles- the first thing that I saw was A TON of dried red hot chili flakes that looked like they were literally dumped into the to-go container at the last minute. All of the noodles were completely stuck together and there was little sauce on them. They were NOT good! The panang curry sauce tasted like absolutely nothing but peanuts. This sauce is supposed to have a hint of peanut- but not like this. The crab rangoon - also terrible. They were fried way too long and only had a cream cheese mixture inside with no crab in sight. The next time that I want Thai food- I will go to Bangkok on Franklin or Rice Thai because I spent $50 for 2 entrees and 1 appetizer for lunch and the majority of it is inedible. Another downside is that Silk will not allow you to order from their lunch menu on a to-go order. 2 thumbs down for sure. read more

Other than the food which were extremely delicious, the service is extremely lacking. When they great you at the door, it's ok. I'm used to thai places with the most welcoming hellos and directing me to my sit. This is not a busy place, although it has great potential but I feel it's because of the service it's not very popular of a place. I sat myself down and the waiter followed me to my seat. Then he proceeds to give me a menu with was basically being held together with tape. I figured let me just not judge. The food is delicious I will give them that for sure! The pad thai was on the sweet side but still good. The Tom Ka soup was very aromatic and had a sweet taste to it. The panang curry was good but the ton of crushed peanuts just was so overwhelming I couldn't enjoy the meal. So if you aren't in a rush, the service is a bit slow but the food is very tasty. Silk Thai Hagerstown was the first Thai restaurant that I ate at in the Hagerstown area. I used to go there quite often.... The food, for the most part was good but the service ... not so much. Some of the appetizers and entrees that my family and I ordered were: Appetizers: *crispy string beans - they are actually one of my favorites! The string beans are lightly battered and fried... then tossed in a slightly spicy chili sauce *crispy fried bean curd *vegetable spring rolls Entrees: *pad Thai *drunken noodles *flounder filet - the flounder filet has always been my favorite entree at Silk. I order it with spicy chili basil sauce I do like the food at Silk for the most part, but now that I have found 2 other Thai restaurants in this area... they are my go-to. read more

There is a lot to like about Silk Thai. Portions are large, menu has many reasonably priced choices, wait staff is attentive (but in our case on a Saturday evening, a bit overwhelmed). I suspect that for the traditional Thai food, the three chefs in the back are nailing it. As a diabetic diner, I generally try to stay away from noodle-heavy dishes so I shared a delicious shrimp roll and a duck roll with my wife, and had a mixed vegetable dish. Sauces can be a source of added sweetness and the duck roll was indeed a bit sweeter than expected, yet savory and with excellent curb appeal as they say in real estate. The mixed vegetable sauce tended to wipe out the individual flavor of the other ingredients, which were well cooked. My wife was impressed with the light coating on her sweet and sour chicken and we even had some to take home. Give them a try and give your taste buds a work out! read more

Don't be fooled by the strip mall exterior, this place is awesome. The food and portion size was great. I had the pad Thai and my colleague hade the pineapple stir fry. Both dishes were very tasty and plenty to be shared. The staff was very friendly and service was excellent. The spring rolls are made fresh in house and the dipping sauce was great. The only negative was I don't think she believed us on the spice level we wanted, but a little hot oil fixed that easily. The owner personally greeted us and is truly from Thailand. I received my food with no utensils or napkins. I am in a hotel room at a work function so I was trying to save time by ordering in. Now I am trying to find where I can get utensils. Not a big deal if you eat with you hands, but I prefer to enjoy my food while multi tasking. I was driving to Richmond, VA, got tired, and decided to stay over in Hagerstown. I always look for Thai food because it is my favorite. I found this little gem and they did not disappoint. The restaurant is beautiful and clean, and the customer service was excellent. I ordered the Pad Thai/w tofu, the spicy dumplings, and crispy strings beans and it was delicious! I devoured that food. Service was a bit slow even when it was not busy at all. Seems like the counter person is also the server. He was very polite and nice. The food was awesome!! 1st time ever visited and enjoyed our meal. Crab Rangoon - was good but could have been fried a bit longer. Otherwise it was tasty and enjoyed it with the sauce. Pad thai chicken was very good. Has a slight spicy kick, very tasty. Sweet and sour chicken - the only place I can find that includes bell peppers, onions and pineapple. But wish there was more of the veggies/pineapple, really enjoyed the flavors. Wouldn't order the coffee boba as the boba wasn't done yet so it was very chewy and hard; should be soft. This restaurant was a very pleasant surprise. My wife and I were driving home along I70 in the evening, it was getting late and we were both feeling hungry. We had a hankering for Thai and this restaurant looked convenient so we dropped in for dinner. Our choice was based more on convenience so I was only expecting average food but it ended up being top notch. The two of us shared a couple of entrees. We figured we'd get drunken noodles for a standard Thai restaurant dish and the shrimp chili salt as something more adventurous. Both dishes were excellent. I ordered shrimp summer rolls, Som Tum Salad, pork chili salt dish with extra pork. The shrimp rolls had shredded carrots, lettuce and basil. The peanut dipping was very good. The salad had a couple of shrimp, lime juice, chili peppers, tomatoes, peanuts and was really sweet. The pork chili salt dish was crispy pork in a garlic sauce with onions and bell peppers and was the best! It also came with fried green beans. Great place. Highly recommend. We'll, I must say that I've lived in the area for years and never had any specific reason to try Silk Thai. My son and I were looking for something different and just decided to give it a try. BLUF: we now wish we had tried this long ago!!! Inside, it's nice overall but nothing that will blow your mind. It used to be El Ranchero and the layout is largely the same. The tables and booths are comfortably spaced and there is "enough" decor to keep it interesting without being tacky. Pop music plays in the background, an odd mix but it's played at a low volume which thankfully doesn't make it hard to chat with your dining party. Servers are nice, friendly and overall the service is good. Food came out at a reasonable pace, and not so fast that we couldn't first enjoy our appetizer. So, on the the food: truly divine. Granted, I'm not a seasoned food critic and Thai cuisine isn't one I know we'll, but I know a well prepared dish when I have one. This place is a GEM!! We started with an order of shrimp and chicken dumplings. They arrived with 6 in the dish, generously covered in a spicy chili sauce. They held true to the spicy name, but were still really enjoyable...great texture and flavor to the point that we wish they'd offer these as a main dish!! My son went with drunken noodles with chicken. He loved it! The rice noodles were huge, soft and very well seasoned. Just slightly on the spicy side, the portion was perfect and these new flavors were quite the experience for him. He says 9/10!! I went with the Shrimp Chili Salt. I have no idea why it has "salt" in the name, but don't be afraid. My entree arrived with a side of sticky rice and the aroma of hot shrimp, bell peppers and sliced onion left me with only 1 task: to see what I had gotten myself into. I do love spicy food, but wasn't exactly sure if I was in uncharted territory with Thai spices. My worry was for naught and I went on to experience one of the VERY BEST meals I've had, anywhere. I know, that probably seems like a stretch for a "Hagerstown" Asian restaurant but let me assure you that what you get here is authentic and crafted with love. From the lightly breaded crispy shrimp to the tangy sauce and then to the tempura breaded green beans....holy moly!!! The shrimp were large/jumbo, cooked perfectly and if I had one negative thing to say, it would be that they leave the tails on. In some dishes it's not a big deal, but in a dish with a sauce like this, it's kind of a disappointment to have to cut the tails off, losing some of your precious shrimp to waste. Or, you "could" go all in and pick them up, but it'd be messy. As an extra note, the drinking glasses are enormous here, which is a preemptive move to keep your tongue from being set ablaze; good move Silk Thai!! Even still, I needed a refill, as did my son. So, this is now a top choice for my crew. I took my wife and daughter with us for a subsequent visit and they gave this place top ratings. Don't be like us....visit now, it might just end up being one of YOUR next favorite local restaurants!! read more
