Eh, I had to take off a star. The drunken noodle had a definite taste like molasses. Not good. The wonderful drunken noodle taste is achieved by the super-hot wok temperature that you just cannot get cooking it at home. You need the high btu's that restaurant equipment offers. Ordered takeout from here, and it was okay. I've had a lot of Thai food, so I wouldn't call this the best I've ever had. It was tasty, but not spicy. I'm always a little hesitant to order from a Thai place that doesn't ask me the spiciness level I'm wanting. This one didn't. We had to add our own to make it so. The Tom Yum soup didn't have tomatoes or cilantro in it, which my favorite restaurants always do. Just saying. Pleasantly surprised by our visit. Stopped by because Thai 99 (which I went to twice and then never again) was gone and I was curious to see how this new Thai place was. I love the interior decoration, definitely a step up from before. Because it was their grand opening week, we got free champagne, dessert and 15% off the check! As far as food goes, it's definitely one of the better Thai places in Charlottesville. We ordered pad see ew with crispy duck and Pad Thai. Usually, I'm not a fan of duck and was slightly skeptical but this dish turned out to be quite delicious. Just watch out for some bones! Servers were really nice although my only complaint is that they were a little slow getting us our check and then running our card but I can deal with that. The only other thing is that they offer free delivery within 2 miles but you have to order $20 or more. Considering that I do take out usually when I'm eating alone at work, I don't think that's an option for me. We went for an early dinner. Upon arriving, we were seated right away. It was good timing because the place was packed within 15 mins of being seated. I always keep coming back to this place - at least once a month. The portions for everything are giant, especially the noodles. I can never finish and have to get a to-go box. Sometimes on weekends the wait is slow and I've had my order incorrect somewhere but this is fine considering this is the best you're going to get for Thai food in Charlottesville. I have only ordered take out. I chose this place because it had excellent reviews but unfortunately my experience was anything but excellent. In terms of service, they said it would be between 45-55 mins before delivered.... I called at one out mark and they said it would be 20 more mins, they didn't show up for another 40 minutes. (1 hr 40 mins total waiting) The only thing they would offer me in terms of appeasement was 10% off..... my NEXT order (and I had to ask for some sort of compensation). There will be no next order. I was hoping the food would make up for the service, but unfortunately did not work out. I ordered pad Thai and green curry. The green curry was okay, but they only filled up the rice cup halfway, so it was enough green curry for 3x the amt of rice. As for pad Thai, I was so disappointed :( chicken was dry, it was basically only noodles and crushed nuts, hardly any sauce. It was flavorless and cold. I used my roommates leftover swee and sour Chinese sauce to give it some flavor. (we planned to eat together but hers came 45 mins earlier, so she was finished at my point of starting to eat). Too bad this experience was terrible. Will not be getting food again from here. read more

The sad fact is, most people in Charlottesville and environs wouldn't know good Thai food from Chow-Chow Cup, so I would view the 5-star reviews here with a critical eye. We ordered a whole bunch of take-out from Silk Thai -- three different curry dishes, Pad Thai, Satay, potstickers, fried bean curd, etc. The main issue here is that despite their menu descriptions, most of the main dishes are just some kind of meat (chicken, pork, etc.) in a bunch of sauce. The vegetables that the menu describes, and that are so typical of Thai cuisine, are simply missing in action. The sauces aren't bad, although they all taste the same and probably are the same -- but what you are getting bears only a vague resemblance to actual Thai food. The chicken satay was dry, the fried tofu was tough and chewy, the Pad Thai noodles were bland and overcooked, and the potstickers were fried to the point of no return (I could be wrong but I suspect that some or all of this food is prepared well in advance and nuked by kitchen help whose culinary skills may be limited to pressing a button.) Add to that the fact that to order for pick-up you first need to negotiate a complex process involving a second website -- and you've got a near perfect recipe for a less than ideal dinner. read more

Showed up on time, and told to wait another 10, despite the slightly empty restaurant. 10 turned into 30, with no apology or even updates whatsoever from management or hostess. Overall, subpar America-Thai food, affordable price, but wait staff demonstrates poor service and is inconsiderate of customers and their time. Got delivery from Silk Thai and it was a solid late night meal. I got the ka prow fried rice with pork and it was very satisfying! Huge portions and an appropriate amount of heat (although I'd call it mild instead of medium spicy). For me, I wanted more Thai peppers because I felt like I was just eating a never ending bowl of rice. The pork was just fine, ok quantity and a little tough in regards to texture. It's hard to judge a restaurant, especially Thai food, based on one dish- but I will say they have an impressive variety and selection of dishes. read more

I have eaten at the restaurant a few times and I'm not really sure if the hostess is also my waitress or if the bartender is...I always get confused with who to ask. Their service is horrible. When we ordered takeouts, the front desk forgot to place our order, and we were told after half an hour of waiting that the food is not prepared. The manager did not seem apologetic about the mistake at all, and just told us to wait another half an hour. The food is fine, but the attitude is the problem. I am not typically a fan of Thai cooking but Silk Thai delivered well prepared seafood dishes that contained generous portions. The hostess doubled as a waitress but was cheerful and friendly despite her hectic job. The entrees were reasonably priced. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit. read more

This is such a cute restaurant--don't miss it if you're stopping in Charlottesville! The first time I went there I was with a party of 10. They handled our reservation well and got us seated within ten minutes despite being busy. The service was a little slow but extremely polite, so I can forgive them especially since the restaurant was busy. They were even nice enough to split the checks, knowing we were all college students. The second time I was there with my mom and the service was extremely prompt. As for the food: drunken noodles and pad thai are probably the two most popular items and for good reason. I personally had drunken noodles the first time and just HAD to get the same thing the second time. They are a little spicy for my fellow white people but you can ask for them mild! I would also highly recommend the Thai iced tea if you're looking for something sweet. The pricing may look expensive but the portions are enormous! Lastly, the decor is extremely cute and you get a very homey feel dining there. I will definitely be making this one of my regular stops during my next three years there. read more

A true gem in the Charlottesville area. Authentic and delicious Thai food that comes out fast and fresh. The portion sizes are more than enough, I can never finish a dish no matter how hungry I come in. Take-out sizes are smaller so I suggest you dine-in for the full experience. The place is small yet cozy and well decorated. The service is consistent with a really warm and bubbly manager. The prices are also very fair. I always go for the Red coconut curry and the Pad See Ew with beef. Be careful with the spice level because it gets pretty hot after level three. We ordered pad see ew with beef to go and came home to realize they put chicken instead... :( Do not bother with their spring rolls, it's mostly vegetables (no noodles to be found), they stick to each other/ fall apart as you hold them and their peanut sauce is not very authentic. The folks who work here are so sweet and accommodating. I live on the same corner, and we've walked in a couple of times, once when my shoulder was really hurt and I basically collapsed onto their waiting area sofa while I waited for our takeout.
