I went to get only a hem, and she quoted me $80. I paid half via Venmo which was flexible. During my 2nd fitting, I decided I wanted a bustle but I was not expecting the price to DOUBLE. She then quoted me $160 and I asked her "how much to bustle a gown?" And she said "well, I steamed it too and I'm charging for each fitting and my time". I mentioned how she's just making up prices as we go. Plus, I never requested a steam, but apparently I had to pay for that too. I already had enough going on so I just paid her another $40 and agreed to pay the rest at the final fitting. Her studio needs some upkeep. It was dusty, floors needed a mop, and her bathroom doesn't look or feel clean. Would be nice if she had some empathy for brides wanting to protect their special gown. She has cats and it contributed to the aroma of her studio. I asked her if she can wash her hands while handling my gown, no response from her. Some text messages she did not respond to, she just left me on read. It would be nice if she sent out pick-up notifications or something to improve her customer service. But it's a small business. I recommend you keep track of everything and also take photos, if you're working with Basia.

The cost also seemed reasonable based on what I understand of bridal alterations pricing, and getting the wedding dress to fit perfectly is probably one of the most important parts of the day. Nilah was friendly, efficient, and professional to work with. I also appreciated that she and her assistants are responsive via email for setting up appointments which is not the case with all vendors (it's much easier to send an email than find the time to make a call at times!). I wanted both panels cut and hemmed, so that in the end I would have four panels: three 50" w x 36" l, and one 50"w x 48"l. It was a little hard for the man to get what I wanted by he seemed to. He said the cost would be $60. I said this was twice the cost of the curtains so he said $50, and if I paid cash there would be no tax. (Should have been a red flag.) I came in today to pick the curtains up; unfortunately did not check these until I got home, when I saw there were only two panels, not four. I returned to the store, thinking there would be a second hanger with my two other curtains. To make a long story short, after much discussion, with the P&J family telling me I wanted something for nothing, I wanted just to retrieve my panels to take them somewhere else, and I wanted half the cost returned, or $25. The family accused me of wanting something for nothing, I said I only wanted what was promised. I said if he didn't simply return the unfinished pieces and the $25 I would go to the police (knowing this wasn't a criminal issue) and would give an appropriate review. They called the police and I told my side of the story. They were unable to get my $25 back, only the unfinished curtains. I would be very careful about using P&J. He may be a good tailor but I think his ability to comprehend what a customer wants is impaired. PS: a woman who identified herself as his granddaughter said she was getting this all on her camera and if I posted a bad review would use it. So be it. I said I hoped she got both sides of this dispute recorded.
