We LOVE Silver Birch. They make great cocktails and the food is terrific. Even on a Friday night in august there wasn't much of a wait at 8pm. Chris and Beth do a great job of entertaining. Sitting out on the deck is very nice too. Not buggy at all. My husband loves the fish fry and I'm partial to the Walleye. They served us a lovely chocolate angel food cake for our anniversary. Classic Wisconsin supper club, we went on a Sunday night and had a great experience, our server was terrific, she got very busy after our order was placed, but still kept checking in. Dinner salad with a deviled egg, that was a first, but a nice touch, rest of the salad was nice and fresh. Beef wild rice soup was flavorful and hearty, though a bit salty. Warm garlic Parmesan breadsticks were yummy. My husband and I both had filets that came wrapped in bacon and cooked to the right temp and I also should mention that everything I listed prior to the steak was included along with potato. I don't usually take time to write good reviews only negative which is bad I know. I take the time to write this review because the staff of this restaurant / supper club well deserve it! I Had Dinner at The Silver Birch 6.14.17 and it was amazing! The salad with homemade dressing A+ with the deviled eggs cannot be beat!!!....then comes soup to perfection which I usually don't care for Cream of Broccoli which I'm now a fan! The breadsticks were out of this world and the best that I have ever inhaled!! Who would ever think that breadsticks could even taste that good? Now came the steak... looked great but nothing crazy.... that is until the fork hit it!!!! WOW... What the hell was this? Not only one of the most tender steaks but also so darn flavorable! Nice setting, beautiful view. Bar served generous drinks. Ordered a Porterhouse and it would have ranked as one of the top ten TOUGHEST steaks that I have eaten. Waitress was swamped, only one taking care of the whole place so couldn't get her attention to resolve the problem. Had a broccoli soup that was very good. I would put 4 star... But chicken sandwich was dry, over cooked. Service - slow but only one waitress on what seemed a pretty busy night. Other food ordered was another chicken sandwich... Which was dry and ribs which were awesome!!! Boy a single piece of meat was left on bone because it just so moist. Runs could have had more BBQ taste but that's what I'll get next time!! read more

What a great experience! We went for Friday night fish. The staff was excellent! We had cocktails and ate on the deck with a great view of the lake. The perch was exceptional. I also had a bowl of clam chowder which was very tasty. Kathy had the German potato salad and ate every bite. We mentioned that we were in Tomahawk to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary and the waitress surprised us with a beautiful and tasty desert, on the house. It's been 27 years since we were last here. 1st time for prom, this time for our 25th anniversary. The service was amazing. Everyone was so nice and we barely sat down before getting drinks. When the salad was served we already knew we would be back. The menu says green salad...it was almost a meal in itself with many veggies and a deviled egg...wow. Then they brought out these awesome warm bread sticks. Soooo good. The soup we had was beef dumpling that was so yummy. Would have been satisfied with just the soup and salad. Suggestion...unless you plan on taking home left overs...get the smaller portion of steak. If you go home still hungry...your fault.. It definitely won't be another 27years before going back. We hadn't been there in years and we were looking for somewhere new to go. The service was excellent as was the salad, bread and soup. My wife had the Filet and it was good; not great. It had a good flavor, however, it was somewhat dry. I had the special which was a ribeye with mushroom, onion and green pepper topping. The steak was good but the green pepper in the topping was undercooked and it was still very crunchy. I'm not sure it was intended to be served that way but I was not a fan. First time we have ever been here. Went for a fish fry on Friday with my parents. Ok fish fry only option for potato was fries...mom was hoping for potato pancake. Pretty good gin n tonics. We were not sure if our attire was ok ( camping...do not really pack dressier clothing) but there was a mixture of everything. When we were getting ready to leave....there was a younger gentleman playing the piano. Nice end to the dinner....hopefully next year it will be nicer and we can try out the patio. read more

I'm actually basing my review on the 1980's when we ate here frequently. I have now moved back and will be returning soon, looking forward to it. My only complaint in the 80's was the smoke, I had to finally stop going because the atmosphere was too smoky. But now smoking in restaurants is outlawed, looking forward to returning. read more

The atmosphere is always warm and welcoming. She decorates for holidays and seasons beautifully. And, of course, the food. Nothing prepackaged from the freezer. From the salad to the dessert, the food is fresh and tasty. The patio with a view over the lake is a beautiful place to enjoy drink. We have always had great food and service! read more

When we went there for our anniversary dinner, the service and food were above reproach. When my crabmeat stuffed trout came out with the head on it (creepy), the waitress immediately took it back to have it (the head) removed and the fish was superior! read more

Food was very good, especially the salad. But service was very slow and indifferent the night we went. Tables opening up went unbussed for 20 minutes or so, and no one seemed to think it was his or her job to clean them. Once seated, it took a while for the server to notice us. LONG wait for any meal course; soup appetizer was brought after the salad. Entire experience took 2 and a half hours. Unless service is improved, I wouldn't recommend the Silver Birch. read more

1/5 CLEANING CHEMICALS IN MY FOOD. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. In-laws brought us here for our wedding anniversary. Although we had reservations and were on time, were made to wait ten minutes anyway. On seating I found the iron table legs that force you to sit awkwardly and apart. The place was decorated nicely but is noisy - you will not have an intimate night here. Think Chipotle and reverberating sheet metal. Two of us ordered beer. Delivered in the bottle and then the waitress asked if we'd like a glass. When my 9-year old son was asked what kind of potatoes he'd like, he said 'mashed' and was told flatly 'We don't have mashed.' I was asked what kind of dressing I'd like and asked 'Do you have balsamic vinaigrette?' She replied 'We have balsamic vinegar?' The restaurant offers soup or juice. In-laws ordered juice, which was a large serving of tomato juice in a cocktail glass with a lemon wedge on the rim. My wife's steak (not roast beef) was overcooked and served with au jus. Au jus is not served with steak - a properly made steak doesn't need it. I ordered the special, a skate fish with horseradish crust. I took a small bite and at first thought the horseradish was overly strong. After I swallowed I had a tinge of bleach or something in my nose, and an odd aftertaste. I tried another bite and spit it into my napkin after my nose and throat were filled with chemical vapor. I think I found the mother load of whatever cleaner they used on the pan - maybe Bar Keepers Friend - I'm not sure as I've never cooked fish with it. I got the waitress' attention and said, 'There is cleaner, or bleach, in this'. She replied with a firm, 'No.' Not like 'no, that couldn't, shouldn't happen', but 'no' as in 'you are mistaken'. She asked weakly, 'Maybe the horseradish?' Now furious I told her to take it away. A hostess came back over, asked if I'd like anything else. Lacking any trust that Silver Birch knows how to handle food safely, I just drank water the rest of the night. They took my food off the bill. They should have comped the entire meal. I can count on one hand the number of times I've sent food back. Silver Birch is on that hand, specifically one finger. read more
