The view from the middle of the lake, courtesy of our little fishing boat

We had THE BEST TIME with our little fishing boat rental! I can't say enough about this experience! How can you go wrong spending $55 for an afternoon of pure fun??? This bustling General Store has everything you can think of! Snacks, groceries, pre-made yummies, amazingly great cheese selection, fishing supplies, boat and kayak rentals, and Cactus Cooler! Like, when was the last time you had a Cactus Cooler???? Nothing screams summer like downing an ice-cold soda under a shady pine tree, looking up at the Sierras from a dirt trail next to an unbelievably beautiful lake. Sorry, got a little sidetracked. Back to the boat! So easy to rent, only fifty bucks for the entire afternoon! The views from the middle of the lake are epic, y'all. There's a ton of shoreline to explore, a little island that's only a little spooky, and some damn fine fishing! Gets a little windy at the end of the day and we were so glad we weren't on kayaks at that point lol! This place is a GEM and should not be missed : )

I'm so grateful the cafe opened! All last week, I was monitoring the resort webcams to see how the smoke was.. Never occurred to me the reasoning not seeing any cars or fishermen.. just thought they weren't here because of the smoke.. So as we were eating a late breakfast.. we mentioned how it was empty of anglers... Our server informed us the fishing was closed! They closure was extended for another week?!?!?? I had my heart on fishing there, and then further down to Mammoth, and Bishop! Darn!!!! At least we were able to support the cafe and eating a very nice breakfast! It's not the resorts fault..

So happy we were able to rent a kayak here to enjoy amazing views of the Ansel Adams Wilderness! We were camping for a few nights at June Lake and visited this place thanks to our intrepid Yelp East Bay CM Emma W. Saw the beautiful photo she posted on Instagram and just had to see it for ourselves. We just happened to have had a campsite reservation here a week after her stay in the area. The kayak rental was very reasonable and it wasn't too hot yet, so we rented a kayak for a couple of hours. The staff member who helped us with our rental suggested we head towards Rush Creek to get a better workout as we'll be going against the current. So glad he recommended it. The scenery was pretty spectacular from there too. The waterway got a little narrow in some parts but we were fine. After kayaking, we rested and ate our ice cream by the picnic table by the little beach area. They have a well stocked store and a very clean restroom with flush toilets. The resort has an RV park and there is a campground lakeside, but the place didn't feel crowded. I think everybody was at June Lake where our campsite is. The water is colder and deeper here than June Lake so I can see why this place wasn't overrun with people. I wouldn't mind coming back here next summer. Perhaps stay in one of their cabins and the hubby can fish in the lake and we can kayak again here. The resort is at about 7600 ft, so if you're sensitive to elevation, best to stay and acclimate at a lower elevation first.

    Candy shop for fisher people!

This review is only for the shop. I've never stayed at the resort but it looks adorable. Went into the shop to sign in for lunch at the cafe and was really impressed with the selection. Great grocery section, tons of cute hats and other merchandise. And the fishing gear! Holy Toledo! I took a pic because I felt like a kid in a candy store! All of the little tubs of power bait and salmon eggs lined up in this very organized way. All were labeled appropriately. Who knew there were so many types? (fishermen, obvs) So my 21 year old nephew text me a list of things to get. Panther martins and Thomas buoyants etc, and I felt so lost! The girl on the computer looked pretty busy, but I asked if she could help me and she did. I know that sounds simple, but in this day of crappy customer service, it's so nice when people are happy to help! She just immediately stopped what she was doing and guided me to exactly what I needed. It was so nice to feel taken care of in such an easy going and positive way. Checking out was just as friendly and easy. At this point there were 3 or 4 people behind the counter, all smiling and helpful! Must be the owners and family, as the one kid was too young to work! Anyway, paid for my gear and left a very happy customer. Thanks guys!!

This place is amazing. We have been coming here for over a decade and love it. It's family owned and always accommodating and helpful when needing a reservation or a boat rental for the day they make it easy to have a great family vacation

    Our slot

This was my first visit to the Silver Lake Resort. We checked in at noon and got everything set up. The slots are close together but I thought it was quaint. We met many new people within the resort. The restrooms and showers were clean and well maintained. There are many repeat guests, some people come a couple times a year. The scenery is beautiful and we enjoyed biking and walking by the lake. We had an enjoyable and peaceful stay!! We booked for next year.

Friendly staff, great Cafe with awesome food. Walk across street to the lake or hike up the mountain. Gorgeous views and great fishing.

Lucky day today, got here after everyone was done eating breakfast. Going to fish the creeks after breakfast.

The cabins are nice but hard to make reservations since they hold for prior guests. The little cafe is quaint and has great food.

The place has such a cozy, nostalgic charm, you really feel like you're tucked away in a quiet mountain town, but still close to everything you need. The cottage was super clean and had everything we needed: a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and even a little fireplace that made the evenings feel extra special. The location couldn't be better, just a short walk to June Lake Marina, restaurants, a general store. We spent the day exploring the lakes and trails, and in the evening, we grilled outside with the kids. The whole vibe is very family-friendly and peaceful. It felt like a little mountain escape without having to "rough it." We'd definitely come back again, it's the kind of place you want to revisit every year. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quiet, comfortable, and charming place to stay in June Lake with kids!

The building is in a very walkable area. Check in was easy and the people who run the place seem sweet. Cons The walls are so thin that you hear EVERYTHING that your neighbors are doing. The first night I had to endure singing, loud talking, laughing, screaming for hours! My husband went and knocked on the door at 10:20 p.m. to ask the girls to quiet down, but it made no difference. The walls are just too thin. The second evening new people came who were just as loud, so we cut our trip short and just went home. Maybe the stand-alone cabins don't have this issue, but the cabin we were in shared walls and we heard every dog bark, toilet flush, phone conversation, etc. It wasn't very relaxing, and I felt like it put a damper on our vacation weekend. If noise doesn't bother you or you are in a stand-alone cabin, you will probably have a better experience than we did.

AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU EXPECT CLEANLINESS, SAFETY, OR CUSTOMER SERVICE…read more We made reservations months in advance for my son's wedding and trusted that our accommodations would be ready and suitable for guests. Upon arrival, we were placed in a dog-friendly cabin with two beds. After unloading and preparing for bed, we immediately noticed a strong unpleasant odor and carpet that did not feel clean or appropriate for a guest room. Within the first 45 minutes of being there, my wife was bitten by what appeared to be a spider. She became distressed and wanted to leave immediately. At the same time, the area around the cabin was overwhelmed with unusually large mosquitoes, making it impossible to relax or feel comfortable. The window screens were broken or missing. We reported the situation to the front desk and explained that we had no choice but to leave. Instead of enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime family event, we ended up driving 6 hours back home so my wife could recover. Because of this experience, our entire trip was disrupted. We had to rearrange plans, absorb additional travel time and expenses, and later make another trip just to attend our son's wedding. The most disappointing part was the complete lack of follow-up and accountability. We were told multiple times that a manager would contact us and discuss a resolution. That never happened. No phone call. No concern. No refund. We stayed less than 45 minutes and left because we did not feel the cabin was clean, safe, or acceptable. Yet it cost us $2k with nor refund. I will not stop here and will follow up with and attorney to get my money back. I should have read the reviews of spider webs just like to ones behind the bed. Very disappointing experience.

When we were in route, we discovered the entire town of June Lake was without power and the motel never notified me. I only learned about the outage through social media, not from the motel staff. This wasn't a minor issue. I had my children and my dog with me, and I rely on an electrical medical device at night, so being without power was not an option. A simple call or email would have allowed me to make other plans before driving all the way there. Instead, I had to scramble to find last‑minute accommodations and ended up having to book another room in Mammoth, where there was power. This cost me extra money, extra stress, and completely derailed our trip. What made the situation even more frustrating is that the motel offered nothing no partial refund, no options, no acknowledgment of the inconvenience or safety concerns. They easily could have rented the room to younger guests or anyone willing to stay without power, but instead the responsibility fell entirely on me. I understand that they can't control a town‑wide power outage. But they can control communication and how they treat their guests. Unfortunately, that's where they fell short. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend June Lake Motel unless they significantly improve guest communication and show more responsibility during situations like this.

The rooms are actually very big and comfortable. We had a downstairs room, off in the corner, with windows and a large living space and kitchen area. We couldn't get over how spacious the bedroom was and how comfortable it was for two people. The bed was super soft. Bathroom was clean and had plenty of towels. Soft towels too! A nice little couch and a three person kitchen table. Truly a large room great for when you'll be staying a few days. It was all of the little touches that made this room great as well. The fan worked and didn't make any noise. The heater worked great. The kitchen was equipped with a large fridge, sink, microwave, Toaster, and four burner stove. It was nice that they had cups, plates, bowls, and silverware. Honestly, anything you would need to eat in. We ended up eating out pretty much every meal because we wanted to enjoy trying the local businesses, but should I ever come back I would definitely pack enough to be able to cook here because it was a great set up. Tyler made check in and check out a breeze. He was nice and didn't give us much hassle when we needed to extend our check out by 30 minutes. He was very friendly from the get and insured we had everything we needed. We appreciated his kind demeanor as we checked in after hours of traveling. The location is five stars itself because you're dead in the center of June Lake downtown with restaurants on each side of you and right behind this motel is the very popular June brewing company. The location was walkable to everything we needed. We also appreciated that they had about a 10 car parking lot. When parking spots fill up, you are welcome to park on the street no issues. We felt that the rooms were pretty soundproof from outside activity but when you are on the bottom floor, we were at the mercy of the people above us. Unfortunately, the people above us were pretty loud, but that's just the way the dicerolls sometimes. I'm sure had we went to the motel staff they maybe would've helped but it just seemed Like too much to ask because really guests should be more courteous that we don't have to tell on them or confront them. The only real negative about being on the bottom floor, but I do prefer the bottom floor as it is easy in and out/not having to carry your bags up the icy stairs etc. The good news is this downtown area is pretty quiet and most of the businesses are closed by 8/9 PM so even if there are loud people, everyone seems to be in their rooms and winding down earlier than if you were in a big city so it was still pretty comfortable and reasonable overall. I would definitely recommend this motel when staying in June Lake, and should I come back up here soon this would definitely be my #1 choice.

The cabin is a nice size for a couple, or maybe a small family, but to sleep 10?, I think it would be cramped. The fridge is a very small dorm room sized one. We could only get the front burners on the electric stove to work, and we didn't try the oven. The heater in the bathroom does not stay on,which is not great, when you go to take a shower and it's a VERY cold morning. One of the provided towels seemed to have some hard, blue stuff stuck to it. The toilet is...tilted. This is a little disconcerting if you have to get up to pee during the night and almost fall off of it! The bed in the downstairs bedroom is soft. VERY soft....and sinks into the middle. My husband and I basically kept rolling into each other all night and had to fight for space. The futon in the living room did not make for a very comfortable couch at all, and would take a SOUND sleeper to be able to sleep on it. The heater in the living room area seems to work well, and we didn't need the one in the bedroom as it seems to stay pretty warm if you keep the door closed. We were unable to use the wood burning stove as they only provide wood during the winter months, and we didn't feel like buying any. It would be great if we could have used it though. It got down into the low 40's to high 30's at night. The whole place needs updating as it looks like it came straight out of the 50's, but not in a cool, kitchy way. The railing on the deck...we get that nobody is suppose to climb on it,but when we even touched it, the entire railing wobbled Also, the screen on one of the doors was off the track, and no matter how many times we fixed it, it was just difficult to use. The tiny TV, had a sound restrictor on it, or something, as it was very quiet and sometimes impossible to hear. The remote did not work to turn it off or on. Now, the pros. The view of the mountains, out the back is beautiful. The deck, provided with some VERY old, plastic chairs and one lounger, was ok. Would have been nice to have a little table as well, so we had a secure place to put our coffee cups, during breakfast in the morning. The kitchen, though dated, is well stocked with dishes, utensils, cookware and cleaning supplies. There are barbeques, but no shade or places to eat or sit while bbqing. There IS WiFi, and the code was provided right in the cabin. It worked pretty well the entire time. The bathtub was large enough for me to stretch out in and soak in. There is a microwave, coffee maker and toaster also provided. The place was clean, but very dated. In summary, this is a housekeeping cabin. If you are looking for maid service, room service or other hotel resort type ammenities, this is NOT the place for you. This is more basic. We will consider returning IF some things, such as the bed, stairs and railings are fixed.

Instead, when we arrived, we got a 10 minute lecture about how there is no maid service, we can't use the wood burning stove, there's no paper towels for the kitchen (at least there's East German surplus toilet paper on hand), there's a drought in California, leave your car unlocked because of bears (what?), keep the curtains closed basically always, sweep before you leave, and on and on and on. Oh, and the entry steps and landing (which is 6 feet up) - I had to pray they wouldn't crumble beneath me because the wood is so rotten - who inspects these places? Helen Keller at night? I was actually nervous every time I would enter and exit the place - what a relaxing resort-style vacation this turned out to be. Full kitchen? Look closely at the picture on the website - there is a tiny dorm-sized refrigerator that didn't freeze water after three days of it sitting in the freezer section - and that's after I spent two hours of my vacation defrosting it. There's hardly any room for one person in the kitchen, and if someone wants something, it's a total hassle to get it. And the luxurious bed - my wife would blink and the mattress bounced so much I nearly flew out of the bed. Add to that the 1960's blanket made of who knows how much polyester and you have resort-level romance in the making. Not to mention the boot-camp instructions on the wall which read, "on your last day don't strip your bed" - what? So they can see if the sheets really need to be changed or just straightened out for the next guest? Ewwww. The picture shows a comfortable looking couch, but ours was an unyielding uncomfortable futon covered with another nasty old blanket. I couldn't get comfortable while watching the 17 inch old-fashioned TV. Also, no Wi-Fi - lemme check. Yup. It's 2014. Need I say more. The entire "resort" is in disrepair and shabby. Weed growth between buildings. Parking area nothing but dirt and stones (not gravel). Solitary BBQ sitting across parking area with no seating or picnic table or anything. I like how Wikipedia puts it: "In North American English, the term "resort" is now also used for a self-contained commercial establishment which attempts to provide for most of a vacationer's wants while remaining on the premises, such as food, drink, lodging, sports, entertainment, and shopping. The term may be used to identify a hotel property that provides an array of amenities and typically includes entertainment and recreational activities".
