The location is super convenient and it's literally one of the first motels/lodge as you entered to June Lake. The prices are reasonable, but you are paying for what you get. The place is extremely run down, the facility looks like it hasn't changed much since it probably first open. The patio door screen had some holes, the hook for the towel was coming loose, and there is very dried dog poo on the grass. To sum it up, everything looks very dated. Pros + there able to accommodate larger groups, my extended family was able to reserve several rooms so we can all stay in one place + pool and hot tub on side + pool table in the main lobby area + walking distance to town and to the lake + cleaning house to clean your fish. + parking on site, can get packed towards the end of the day + picnic table and bbq area Cons - the WiFi doesn't work very well, especially if your room is further from the lobby area - run down facility Overall, if the aesthetic doesn't bother you. My husband's family has been staying at this place for YEARS, making our recent experience really disappointing. We were visiting our aunt and uncle in room 209. When we arrived, we were met with shockingly rude behavior. As soon as we parked, a woman, who may or may not have been the owner, yelled at us from across the parking lot while sitting with her group. Without any greeting, she told us that our dog wasn't allowed in the room. This sudden confrontation was confusing. At first, I thought she was talking about an unleashed dog that greeted us when we parked, so I said, "What dog? Sorry, that's not ours." She then repeated, "Your dog isn't allowed in 209. Dogs aren't allowed in that room!" Her tone was harsh and rude. A simple, polite introduction and explanation would have been enough: "Hello, welcome. Just so you know, room 209 is not a dog-friendly room." It was also strange how she seemed to have listened to my cousin's phone call to figure out our room number, which made us uncomfortable. Additionally, the place was poorly maintained. There was dog poop nearby, and unleashed dogs were running around, making it chaotic and unwelcoming. This experience was not just disappointing because of the poor conditions, but also because of the rude treatment we received. I mention room 209 specifically because I'm sure this rude person knows exactly what interaction this was, given that she literally did not greet us and the first thing she did was yell at us across the parking lot. As someone who works in hospitality for one of the largest companies in the U.S., I was shocked by the lack of professionalism and basic human decency. If the conditions are bad and the service is also bad, there is literally no reason to stay here and give them any business. This place sadly lives up to the worst stereotypes of small-town management. I strongly advise against staying here. read more

Boulder lodge is like Blue cat lodge in the show Ozark, when Ruth was running the run down lodge. I'm pretty sure she's in the office right now. As you're walking into you room, you're hit with that feeling of The Shining meets Clint Eastwood western The good the bad and the ugly. Our bathroom make you feel right at home(if home was a Dilapidated old folks home) The floors in the bathroom move up And down when you step, pretty sure one day someone will end up showering and falling in the shower below this one. Not to mention random dogs everywhere and cheap labor( The kitchen is still the same from when they Installed it in 1856, along with the real wood paneling. Standing on my balcony slash "waiting to be a death trap", (At least our balcony had rolled fax grass or some rug on it, the other were warped plywood ) , I can't help but look over the lake at the boats and wonder(are any of the boats transporting drugs) from the preacher like Ozark. Or at least dumping a body. While sitting in my full back 1900s chair, I can help but feel like I wasn't the only one sitting in it , straight out of a Stephen King novel. Talk about baby proofing the room, they sure now how to , I mean with leaving the wires hanging from the TV to the floor(classic) Unfortunately my wife didn't want to stay here another night with our dog and 7 month old daughter. Alas, I guess I never find out what touched my leg in the middle of the night. This rustic getaway has a gorgeous view of the lake and the ladies at the front desk couldn't be nicer if they tried. They made me feel right at home. Also the balcony. The room is really nice and rustic like if you were at Yosemite. I'm very happy that I found this place. The spatula was hidden between the wall and the microwave and had yellow crud in the slots (after being told if WE left any dirty dishes we'd be charged a $50 cleaning fee). The wi-fi wouldn't connect. The staff was rude about our dog even though they allow pets. Trash under the bed, torn linoleum in the kitchen, mold in the bathroom, the railings on the balcony were rusty and falling apart... So we only booked here because Kayak claimed this was the only pet friendly hotels in the area. (Turns out that almost all the hotels are pet friendly even though the websites say otherwise) The photos on kayak and their website weren't too bad, seemed like a standard room which is all we needed since we were there for a wedding and wouldn't spend much time in our room anyway. They had a 75$ pet cleaning fee, which seemed fair at check in. For two nights it was going to be 386$. Close to 400$ for two nights is a good chunk of change for a hotel in my opinion. We walk into the room and at first we're like, "okay it's a little run down but whatever we're here and it's pet friendly" We go out to eat with family, have some pre wedding celebrations at the double eagle resort (which is insanely nice, pet friendly, and was ~400 for two nights) come back to our hotel around midnight, where we start to realize just how run down the room really was. Cobwebs in the corners, tv was a joke, paint on the walls were peeling, The chair in the room was disgusting, idk what color it once was but it looked like something you'd find on the side of the road that some tweaker dumped, the lampshades were stained and filthy, the window curtains had white stains all over them, there was an unknown crumbled up used tissue paper in the bathroom cabinet, the coffee pot was dirty and still had leftover coffee grounds and such inside. Safe to say, we didn't stay here. We drove back and stayed in a family members room. Next morning we go to check out early in hopes they will refund our money or at least not charge us for the next night since we were absolutely not going to stay there. They acted insanely surprised we weren't happy with the room or that it was dirty. Said they hire young people to clean the rooms and they will talk to them. Said they know some of the rooms are a "little ehhhh" but because we had dogs that's one of the only pet friendly rooms. I understand only certain rooms allow dogs, but I can assure you I've stayed in lots of hotels with dogs and nothing compared to this. When it came down to it they charged us for one night and the 75$ pet CLEANING fee even though the dogs never even made it to the room because we had them with us at dinner and the other hotel. And I mean, Cleaning fee? Really? For that room? Are you really going to clean it? I feel like an absolute dick writing this review, and we felt suuuuuuper bad when we checked out and told them how unhappy we were with the room. We don't complain, we really don't. We take what is given to us and deal. But this was just so bad for that much money we couldn't justify it. I know it's a family run place which makes it even that much harder, but if y'all don't clean up your rooms or lower your rates, these type of reviews are going to keep on coming. read more

The WORST experience I've ever had at a hotel. Rundown, dirty, mold, hair in the sheets...how this room is supposed to pass for a decent place to stay is beyond comprehension. The original hotel we'd booked had a plumbing emergency and booked us a room here. We ended up having to book a new room with an entirely new property because it was such a terrible experience. I am still awaiting resolution of refund from both properties. After one night too many in a tent we broke down and started looking for a hotel with a room under $100. Boulder Lodge had a older cabin they gave us for $85 on a Saturday night. They have great expensive rooms with world class mountain lake views there. But we wanted inexpensive/rustic. We got it. =) The cabin was a bit run down, so not a good choice for citified folk, but for the price we were happy. The staff were friendly. There is a free pool table in the lobby too! Boulder Lodge was an OK place to stay for a night. It has some good views of the lake. The property is showing its age and needs some maintenance. There were no toiletries in the bathroom except soap--no shampoo or hand lotion. The hotel advertises internet access, but if you are too far from the office, the wifi doesn't reach to your room which is what happened to me. I sat in the office in a very comfortable chair the night we arrived and I went there for access the next morning. The staff was very friendly especially when the bus arrived and disgorged 40 people all wanting room keys 2 hours before. They brought some men out to carry bags for anyone who needed. read more

ABSOLUTELY LOVE this lodge!! The clean rooms, the super friendly staff, and the fabulous lake view- WE LOVE IT ALL. Our family has only been to June Lake once before and we planned to go to Mammoth on this trip. Due to some very strange circumstances, we ended up at June Lake. And we were more than grateful we did. I was desperate to find a hotel during holiday week, since we had to leave a terrible hotel in Mammoth. The other hotel- had filthy sheets and horribly rude staff. THIS lodge was the exact opposite. When we checked in, we were greeted by Whitney and Jessalyn at the front desk, all smiles and all joy. They were thrilled to have us stay with them :) And we were happy to be there! We arrived at the room exhausted from a 7 hour drive to Mammoth/June, to find a spotlessly clean room- comfortable beds and tight white sheets with great pillows. Such a wonderful relief after what we had just experienced. In addition, we let the front desk ladies know that we were looking for a second room, if any became available in the next couple of days. Sure enough 2 days into our stay, the room next to ours opened up, and we were able to have the two adjoining rooms- one bedroom for the parents and one bedroom for the kids with a living room and kitchenette. Our family of 4 was stoked; we had enough space to spread out and relax. We also wanted to try something new this year, besides sledding and skiing, so we asked about snowmobiling. Fortunately, we were in luck! The amazing family that runs this lodge also owns DJ's Snowmobile and there was a cancelation for the next day and we were able to ride on 2 tandem snow mobiles. What a BLAST that was! We made amazing memories ripping around the snow park laughing the whole time. Within one short week, we were treated like family by Jessalyn, Whitney, and Tammy who run this hotel with kindness and incredible hospitality. This rustic retreat has it all! And the other guests we met at the hotel had stayed there numerous time before. That is a sign of a great location. Repeat customers. You BET we are coming back to Boulder Lodge again. We discovered this place by accident. Friend booked the wrong date of the hotel in Mammoth and this is the first place available on a busy Saturday night in the area. It's away 30 min from Mammoth ski resort area. The drive to there is a little bit dark at night. ROOM: Our room was upstair with one queen bed and one twin bed. Pretty spacious. Comes with microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, fan etc. Two sinks in the bathroom, one outside and one inside. One small dining table and a working table. Night stands and lamps by each bed. They use oil heater so it takes longer to warm up the room and unlike typical electrical heater, it does have the "wind" blow out as much. Most of their furniture and appliance look older but working condition. Beds were clean but it only came with a thin sheet of blanket. The best part of our room probably is the view from our patio. Our patio is facing June Lake!! Absolutely amazing views in the morning. I would say this is in between travelodge and holiday inn. This is nothing compare to fancy resort like Juniper grade. SERVICE: People worked there are friendly and attentive. RATE: The rate is very reasonable for a last minute booking. We literally called them half hour before our arrivals. It's even cheaper than a Motel 6 smoking room in Mammoth Lake. We stayed in cabin 14 for 2 nights because I didn't feel like towing our 5th wheel to June Lake. My mistake, cabin 14 is not a place you're going to want to hang out and relax in. It has a very seedy dirty feel and the TV (small 1990s TV) turns off by it's self every 10 minutes. If your fishing all day and just need a small bed to crash on then cabin 14 might work for you. The Lodge is in a great location on the edge of town and right on the lake. However, it's way past time to paint and refresh, it's time to GUT the rooms and remodel. This is the second time we've stayed at the Lodge. The first time was in 2008 and it needed attention then. Time to invest in your property guys. Sorry for the bad review. I likely would not have chosen to stay at Boulder Lodge had it not been for my husband who stayed here countless times in his early twenties, and swore up and down that it was the best of the best. Disclaimer: I've stayed at a lot of plush, fancy hotels and Boulder Lodge is definitely NOT even in the top 20 of that category. I recommend that you do not stay here if you're looking for a posh, upscale experience because you won't find it here. What you will find is absolute, jaw-dropping beauty. As soon as we got into our room I dropped my bags and headed to the slider, which faced the lake. STUNNING. Under a wintery pinkish gray sky, the trees surrounding the lake stood tall in the snow, reflecting onto the water's glassy surface. In the distance stood snow-capped mountains. Everywhere you look you forget you're just a matter of miles from one of California's most popular ski resorts, and instead you feel at one with nature. The room itself was quite outdated - my husband said it looked pretty much the same as it did ten years ago. Some of the details included yellowy laminate bathroom countertops, funky lighting and a toilet that took forever to stop running after it was flushed. The bed was comfortable enough, and the room temperature stayed consistent once it was set. The one thing that I absolutely could not get over was the water pressure in our shower - it was like I was being power-washed, and I was sure I'd come out of there with 3 less layers of skin. Yikes! Overall, Boulder Lodge is an excellent choice if you're staying up near Mammoth. The price is right, the rooms are comfortable, the views are unbeatable and it's well worth it to put a little distance between yourself and the main town. read more

I been coming to June Lake for most of my life. Back in the days boulder was good place to stay at. I remember the owners kids. I would see them once a year and play at the pool table with them. It so sad to see it run down like that. They literally have not updated anything. It looks like kindergarten center. Kids toys everywhere, pool is half filled (was not going to swim in it anyways), wallpaper coming off, fire alarm looked broken, mechanic shop next to it, dogs just wondering around. But I was in for a shock !! . Everything in the kitchenette was sticky and grimey. We brought a cannister of antiseptic wipes and used them on everything we touched . But that did very little to help . When I called from home I was told that they had A fully stocked kitchen . That meant a pot . Pan and a sauce pan . Their wasn't even a cutting board . The shower floor had to be wiped before every Use because to prevent any infection . But the water was nice , nice and hot . The bed and linens must have been from. The opening of the Boulder grand opening . Because. They were Old ... Real old . The couch in the living room was over 25 yrs old . I know because the fabric was made into women's Clothes . Your probably wondering why we just didn't up and leave . I didn't tell my husband how Much it made my skin crawl until the ride home . 5 days later , Because he went to so much trouble to make it nice for me . But when I got home , he encouraged me to write on Yelp and here you have . So I give it 1 star. Because I wished we had looked at the photos before we booked . Those photos look elegant . Nothing like the room we had ! And before I forget the water is only good for washing . PLEASE.BRING YOUR OWN DRINKING. WATER !!!! Too much chlorine. I was a disappointed to walk-in and find crumbs on the chair when I went to sit down and for $200 a night, a room should be in the best condition especially for that rate. I don't mind staying in small business run places but when you fail to provide excellent service you will definitely loss customer. I have to say the view is amazing from the balcony but I walked out to find and open bottle of someone's leftover drink which means the cleaning people don't fully do a complete cleaning of rooms. I also found a used tissue under the coach. All I can say is I was definitely disappointed! I was also told if I checked out early and gave the office notice the day before it would be okay. I don't write reviews, but I feel my bad experience needs to be shared to save someone else from a bad experience... Don't stay at the Boulder Lodge in June Lake. If possible I'd give it a zero out of 5! The grounds are not maintained, unswept & dirty with trash. Broken cars are parked on the property in plain site. The lobby was dirty & dusty. My husband has a service dog, but the woman still charged us $40 for a pet cleaning fee. This is not permitted by the ADA law. The total for the room was $190, too much money! The room we stayed in was 2D. Old and dingy, the coffee table hadn't been cleaned, it was sticky & dirty. The water kept running in the toilet. There was mold around the shower and the bathroom door was deteriorating from water damage. The bedroom was a separate room. The window didn't have a lock. The bed was not comfortable with a thin bedspread. The dead bolt didn't work so we just locked the door knob. We should have asked for a different room, this was a BIG MISTAKE. We went to bed early at 9:00. About 11:30 I woke up hot and asked my husband to open the window. Dozing off about midnight I heard a car pull up in front of our room, car doors open, and people talking and laughing. Next thing I knew someone was unlocking the door. My husband jumped out of bed and told me to stay in the bedroom. He yelled at the 4 people coming in the door to get out. The first guy threw the door said it was their room and he had a key in his hand. My husband pushed them back and locked the door. Needless to say we were scared to death! We didn't know if we were getting robbed or what was going on. I called the front desk and asked what the hell was going on. A man answered, he didn't know and hung up on me. The woman who was at the front desk earlier came to the room apologizing that there was a mistake, they gave the wrong key to the other people. We told her we didn't want to hear excuses and asked her to leave because we were too angry. Still too angry and felt unsafe we decided to get dressed, pack up and leave even though it was 12:30 am. GIVE THESE PEOPLE BUSINESS!! 5 STARS. I'm writing this because it's out of my heart. Two days ago, we were in a DEATH AND LIFE situation. My fiance and I were stranded on New Year's Eve on June Lake. It was around 4 pm and nobody could tow our car outside of June Lake. The road was icy and snowy, and it was snowing. We called all the places to stay and they were all booked. We are losing hope that we can freeze to death inside the car until tomorrow morning. I found this one lodge and we called them and told them that we really needed a place to stay for the night. Even if it's just in the lobby, we would take it. The owner was extremely nice and asked where we were at at that time. My fiance said that we had to walk down to the lodge for 45 minutes because our car got stranded. She said that her husband would pick us up at the lodge. Her husband did pick us up and we got the room as well. After that, the next day, we had to go back to the place where our car got stranded to show our ID to the tow truck in order to get a tow. So we'll have to walk back 45 minutes on an icy road.But her husband said, "Don't worry, we will take you guys back there." The tow car is not coming till 12 and we have to check out at 11, but they said just stay till whenever the tow car comes and we will take you guys up there again. We just can't believe that they are so nice and that they are helping us from the bottom of their hearts. Time for the review of the lodge. I'm being honest here because I'm a cleaning freak, but this lodge is so clean. The bathroom is super clean and nice. So cozy and classic. Many people commented that it is old and looks dirty, and let me say this, maybe they should go downtown and rent a room at a 5* Marriot hotel. But for me, this lodge is clean, and I don't smell anything weird at all. I slept really well in this lodge, and that's all I can say! Decent motif on the outside but as you enter you notice things are a bit run down. Broken statues and fixtures. Tiny untidy office. Nice and courteous staff. Room was decent size with a decent lake view. now to the bad Dirty under the bed, saw dirty sock and the bottom portion under the box spring is shedding. The bed is a rock. I felt I would probably be more comfortable sleeping on the ground outside. Yes the bed is that hard. The screen on the window is ripped and torn and I would feel uncomfortable living my valuables like car keys and wallet in a dresser with a window that does not lock and screen repaired by scotch tape. Key locks to the door barely opened after some movement of the lock. Random loud noises. The copper wire on the fridge compressor is not secured and when it turns on makes a loud rattling sound. The water pipes run through the paper thin walls and is so loud when another unit has it running. The walls are so thin between units you can hold your own conversation for you and your neighbors to hear. At least we were not next to the honey moon suite cause that could have been really bad. My boyfriend and I planned a trip to Mammoth in our van to go skiing but ended up stuck in June Lake for 4 days in a blizzard. My best friend has been working at June Mountain and lives at the lodge. The first night, we arrived after dark and my friend offered us to sleep on the extra bed which we took advantage of since we were exhausted and it was storming outside. The next day we had time to prep the van and ended up sleeping in the upper parking lot the remaining 3 nights. The second day my friend came to me freaking out over possibly being evicted for having guests that haven't paid. We immediately go inside and pay $100 (each night afterwards as well) to an angry women behind the desk who wasn't wearing a mask with loads of Trump stickers on the plexiglass. Politics aside, her attitude was horrible. Long story short, the only amenities we used was the shower which was so dirty your feet were slipping in layers of slime. The place was disgusting and the hospitality was lacking to say the least; especially since we had no choice but to stay. The road out of June Lake was snowed in and as soon as they plowed we immediately went home without ever skiing. We usually don't have any complaints and are pretty good about going with the flow but this was bad. read more

The few cons are that it was a bit of a pain to have to call in to make reservations, but well worth it. Their website leaves much to be desired, as well; it was not very informational. They do not have a 24-hour front desk, so if you will be arriving later, make sure that you call to learn how to get your key. Lastly, there was not very much counter space for opening suitcases or preparing meals in the room. The many pros include a friendly staff. There was a floor fan in the room, which was appreciated and used. We wanted a room with a king bed, but it didn't have a fridge, so we ended up with 2 doubles. No big deal. It was a spacious room with a fridge, microwave, TV, "closet" (open area with a top shelf and space to hang clothes), a table with two chairs, a third chair in a corner, and a clock. The view was absolutely spectacular. The lodge is motel-style, with all doors along the outside corridors. We opened our front door to a tree-lined lake with a mountain behind it, reflecting on the water. Breathtaking. The lobby is decked out with animal heads around the ceiling. There is a patio out front with a couple of tables and chairs, as well as a couple of gas grills. There is an indoor pool and spa. There is wifi in the lobby only. Pricing was pretty good. It was about $120 per night. I looked into getting a one-bedroom cabin, but was told by the staff that it is smaller than the lake view room that we reserved (and it was $20 more per night), so we decided against it. It was centrally located to what we wanted to do. It took us about 15 minutes to get to Mono Lake, 45 to Bodie Ghost Town, and 20-30 minutes to get to the Mammoth area. I love coming to June Lake and staying at Boulder Lodge! All the comforts of home with beautiful scerery all around. The staff is very friendly, helpful and make you feel like Family. The Lodge has been around since the 60's and is an absolute gem. If you can't relax here, your can't relax anywhere! read more

i have been going to this place all my life, and i'm old. it used to be very nice and very well maintained. not any more. our room did not receive the included wifi . we were right near the office. the kitchen was severly under supplied. the screen door was bent and laying on the balcony there was wallpaper peeling off the wall in liv rm. tv service was horrible. read more

I was a bit nervous about our stay here since we usually stay in newer condos when we go skiing in June, and I've found that in this area, you get what you pay for. Happily we were pleasantly surprised with our visit to the Boulder Lodge. The family owners are extremely friendly and aim to please. Our room was warm, with the heating system working both efficiently and quietly. True, the decor and construction are dated but I love the vintage metal kitchen cabinets and everything was spotlessly clean. Dollar to dollar comparison with our regular place, for a two-bedroom (one family) the Boulder Lodge wins hands down. Make sure you get a lake-view room because it really is a beautiful spot and the alternative is the parking lot or highway. The pool was warm enough for the kids (yay!) and the hot tub was more than hot enough for us old folks. Double-win there. Plenty of open property for the kids' snowball fights and some sledding (not sure how they have the energy after a day of skiing, however) and the pool table + arcade game(s) were a happy source of entertainment for the kids too. Final bonus - the lodge has a deal with JMSki and got us some discount lift tickets cheaper than Costco! Icing on the cake. Thank you Boulder Lodge - See you next year! read more

This is a real nice place. Right next to the lake. Rooms are old but clean. The staff is super nice. The rooms that we get have a nice kitchenette with all the fixings. Such a disappointment. My husband and I would come here all the time with my in-laws. It is so rundown and dirty. In addition, this is a place where all the construction people stay while they are working on the local streets. I do appreciate the hard work that goes into their day to day listening to them talk about their private parts, when they use the toilet what happens (use your imagination) and use the worst language I have ever heard was disguising. It was embarrassing just listening to it. They were so loud even with the window closed I could hear them. I would recommend making the drive and staying in mammoth. read more

Stopped in to get some shut eye, driving from Tahoe. Choosing a room with a lakeview sounded attractive, however, as soon as we walked into the room I knew we should kept driving to Bishop.... This place is pretty much out dated. The room we were in had 60's type deco. The heater didn't work, the Patio door going out to balcony was worn out and was hard to open. Once out on balcony the wooden post was rotten, making the gate/rail loose since it was detached from the balcony floor! I would have definitely paid a little money to stay elsewhere... Sorry folks at boulder lodge, you need to step it up.. read more

I had to book last minute without doing a lot of research. Nothing else was available on Saturday night. So I booked a room here based the pictures on their website. It was so depressing to see the room. I stayed out late to avoid going to the room. Will only go to sleep and will leave early in the morning. Most depressing place ever!! read more

I do not right many reviews, though I often rely on other's reviews. This one I feel compelled to write because the person managing the office on Saturday night, 7/29 was AMAZING! We got there extremely late with no reservations. My family was stuck due to a botched reservation at a local RV resort, this resulted in 2.5 hours of searching and stopping many places looking for somewhere to crash. She made it happen when she didn't have to at all! The views other's posted about were beautiful of the lake. The reviews below about "not fancy" are also accurate if you are looking for a big hotel chain experience. The review would be 10 stars for the hometown, take care of each other, atmosphere was as refreshing as the morning crisp lake front air. read more
