Out here in the middle of this Mojave desert oasis, is the lilttle market that could. Silverlakes market has everything you need esp, if you're looking for fresh fruits and veges. I finally wandered in here solo, when my fiance left to base today and was pleasantly surprised to find everything I needed to bake a banana chocolate chip bread. Make fried rice, and linguine pasta with green beans. My favvvsss are strawberries and they are super yummy and fresh here! I'm used to self check out at Whole Foods in Los Angeles proper. But it's nice to get away from the city, the high density, and the rat race; and just chill out in the beauty of desert spring winds. Also, prices seem standard to me. :) read more

Great community Marketing...Ownership and staff are amazing! They always have what I need

After having my post was removed twice from the local community page I've decided to post here. On April 29th at 12:00pm I went to the Silver Lakes market in Helendale, California with my two children. We hadn't been in the store in a couple months because of prior negative experiences we have had there. We decided to give the store another try to see if things had improved. To be clear ALL the negative experiences were pertaining to the smell, hygiene and maintenance of the market. When I arrived at the market a couple seconds into being inside, my children, and I were overcome by a foul odor that can only be described as a combination of the smell of potentially a gas leak and something rotting. We quickly grabbed the couple of items We had come there to get, but while I was checking out, I felt like I was going to vomit and my daughter had to stand by the door with it cracked open because she almost threw up as well from the odor. Our community deserves to have a place to get groceries that is clean and doesn't smell of rotting product. When I spoke with the manager, he told me it was the "floor cleaner" they use. There have been multiple accounts that have been posted on the local community page by dozens of people reporting strange and foul odors at the market as well as seeing rodents or product, chewed by rodents. All of them have been deleted, even though they were not in violation of the community guidelines and they were not badmouthing any particular person. I think we all just want the market to be maintained in a decent fashion so it can be a positive resource to those in our community. I hope that things improve I will not be returning to the market myself, but I hope that it improves for the sake of future customers. Just be wary when shopping there. read more

A one stop shop in the small town of Helendale. Need gas? No problem. Hungry for a quick bite? Get in line. Need milk and diapers? Sure. I definitely enjoy all the assortment of snacks. The ones by the cashier always get me! They definitely have a great selection of chilled beverages. read more

I love this place! I now live here and we a little concerned that not only would this store have a limited selection of items, but the prices would be out of this world. I was wrong. By the way, they also have gasoline here (no diesel) and with your debit card and active participation in their store program you can get a nice discount equaling retail prices in the city. Let me first tell you about the staff. From the very first time I visited this place (years ago) the staff always made me feel welcome. Often, they greet you as you walk in the door! Even though they don't know me, it feels good. I kinda feel like I'm part of the store if that makes any sense. Now that I've been coming here for six months, they feel like family even though I don't know their names. I always see plenty of staff walking the store and if I look like I'm lost they ask if I need help. It makes you just want to join in and work there also. The only store I know that compares is Trader Joe's. So, the selection is not immense, but they usually have almost anything I am looking for. Walking around the aisles, I walk through their toiletries and right to their wine and beer section. Decent selection and prices although I pretty much stick with my favorites. Candy, chips, and soda to my right but I head down the dairy, fresh eggs, milk, juices, etc ... a few different brands and sizes of everything. Swing around to the frozen and ice cream. They often have specials on ice cream (and other stuff) so I always grab a box or quart of some chilly concoction. Do you blame me, it's frickin' hot out in the High Desert. Moving on to another cold case with cheeses, hot dogs, etc and then the meats. Again the always have some deal on a few cuts and since I'm a serious carnivore I grab something here too. Although it's not Prime, their prices on beef are pretty good. There's a butcher in the back right there in case you are looking for something special. (Okay, I'm not realizing that I always shop this store clockwise and focusing mainly on my left and the aisle I am in. I don't really wander much down the other aisles for cat/dog food, household, and canned goods. Interesting (for me) to reflect on one's own behavior patterns.) Continuing to the produce, not a huge selection here, (one and half aisles) but they do have the basics. A lot of the produce is priced pretty high, but based on the rest of the store I'm pretty sure they're not marking this stuff up and getting rich here. It's just expensive to get fresh produce delivered and it's just plain expensive everywhere. Finally, breads, crackers, cookies and pastry and a nice selection of Hispanic goods. All of this is packaged, there's no "freshly baked here" stuff, but I really wouldn't expect that in any small town. Once in a while you'll find something out of the ordinary and made a little closer to home. Hard liquor is near the checkout. So, I don't usually go down the other aisles much, but they've got pet food, household goods, fishing supplies, soda and waters, cleaning supplies, canned and packaged goods, etc. Three items I could not find was Tofu, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and "Buffalo" Mozzarella. I asked the manager about the first two and they brought in and now stock both of those items! Although they do have mozzarella cheese, I was (one time) looking for fresh "buffalo" for use in a Caprese salad. Needless to say, this is the first place I go when shopping and if they don't have it which is unusual, I can often wait until I go into town. I've shopped a few times at the "other" store here, but a lot of their food items are expired and not any cheaper. Again, the staff make this store who are always very friendly, helpful and available. Everyone really goes out of their way to put a smile on your face. read more

Since we live in a small community, this grocery store tries to have a variety of everything. I like the way they bring in new items for us to try. I love the way they will try to order things you suggest or need for an event. I order a fresh turkey before Thanksgiving yearly. read more

The store has everything you need including four gas pumps. The people who work at this store are as nice as any store in America. Ask where something is they will probably walk you to it, smile and leave to finish your shopping. Prices are higher than WINCO or Target and such, but you save on gas to town and back. Gas prices are competitive and even better than some. The owners and workers deserve our loyalty because of the kindness and neighborly people they are to us... their community. 5 Star Rating read more

This little small town grocery store is the best. They respect your right to not wear a mask and they don't hassle you with unconstitutional demands. This market is a small business and have genuine respectful store owners and employees unlike the chain less than a mile south. I enjoy shopping here when I need to get necessities for my family. I don't think that was a professional way to treat a paying customer that just payed for $216 of gasoline,having a line of payingcustomers waiting to pay when it's close to closing time is not a justifiable excuse for treating a paying customer in a awful manner,what a inconvenience don't think I will go back as much as I used to .not after this bad experience.FYI it's not the customers fault the fuel pumps don't give receipts after purchasing fuel at the pump , their should be something done about that too prevent this bad experience from happening again! read more

The staff is friendly. Since this is our only option for fresh vegetables and meats if we forget something at the grocery store I suppose we are expected to pay the high prices that go with that convenience , I just wish they paid more attention to the quality and freshness of the vegetables that they charge so much for... They butcher some meat on site so there is the typical butcher smell that permeates everything in the store, so I do not purchase dry goods. But, the friendly staff and the proximity make it my go to place when I find I have forgotten that last pesky onion or need a gallon of milk. read more

JUST EEEEWWWW!!!! This store has a nasty smell every single time Ive been in there and it sorta hits you in the nose as soon as you open the door. A food establishment, and especially a grocery store, should NEVER smell like that. I can't even put my finger on the smell. Then, their meat is often near-expired, their produce is NOT fresh, nor is it properly maintained on the display (for example, who keeps cilantro soaking in pans of water?!). YUCK!!! It wilts the produce and makes it all limp from the surplus of water! Oh - and the prices!!!!! They often charge nearly TWICE the price for their items, TOTALLY taking advantage of the fact that we do not have a legitimate grocery store in town. For instance - a $4 frozen pizza was $10 there!!!!! My motto is, unless it is an ABSOLUTE EMERGENCY, AND it COMES IN A CAN OR JAR - DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!!! read more

The stench of garbage hit you as you walk through the door the prices are really high and they use the excuse "It's for the convenience", the staff for the most part are very friendly people, but unless you absolutely need to get something they're not worth your time or the price. If you need fuel go to the Mobil station that is by the lake and food and cheaper fuel drive15 miles to Barstow or 17 miles to Victorville better prices and better selection. read more

This is a mom and pop store. They have pretty much all you'll need. Yes the prices may be a little higher but the price of gas to town out weighs that. 4 pumps only? How many do you need? Rarely is there more than 3 people there for gas at any one time. And there are some very attractive ladies working there. Food selection is maintained very well and the store is always clean. Can't find that special spice, just us tumeric ... lol They do have a business to run so not everyone can stop and chat for hours! Sorry but that's life. read more

Locals who live here all year 'round know that this market offers an exceptional selection of items given the square feet of the building. They are NOT overpriced. They offer competitive prices more often than not and people who live out here know that MOST vendors say it's *too far* to actually come out and service our area; therefore for example, most of the breads offered are Sara Lee brand since no other major bakery company would supply them. Small bakery items are available. They are extremely kind and if you live here, will even order items for when they can. They don't gouge, and are supportive of everything they sell. If there is ever the occasional problem, they will replace or refund anything you buy. They have great produce and good meats. When you consider that they are 15 miles south of Barstow and 14 miles north of Victorville in a small RESORT community, I think they do a fantastic job! I support them wholeheartedly! read more
