I decided to buy a bag of chips. Then I saw beautifully packaged baklava at the cash register counter. I bought the big gold box full of baklava. Oh wow...just like another reviewer said, these are the BEST baklava I've ever had! These are packaged so nicely, they would make a nice gift too. (Note: The attached picture doesn't include all the baklava that was in the box, because I had already eaten two before I took this picture.)

The closest grocery store was mountain high market and though I was grateful not to have to drive to Lake Arrowhead and back I was disappointed in the high prices and mostly canned and frozen food. Despite the lack of choices, the service here was AMAZING which I have never seen at a grocery store. The couple who ran it offered homemade baklava (which was literally the best I've ever had) and even helped me take my bags to my car IN THE RAIN! Talk about going above and beyond! Also even though the prices were high and the food selection was small it was the best option in the area and the $180 spent on groceries paid for 4 meals plus snacks for 5 people which was a much better alternative than going out for every meal.

Very overpriced market and very rude service…read more 1. My Lady bought an energy drink which was quite a bit more expensive than you can purchase anywhere else. She then asked if she could have a cup as she doesn't like to drink straight out of a can. The rude, unfriendly person working with tattoos all over her legs (for reference, not judgement) said "that will be $1.25" ... what?! - $1.25 for a disposable plastic cup? 2. When we first entered the market the door to the bathroom was not blocked, but this rude person went and blocked the door while we we looking at all the items. My Lady needed to use the restroom, which on a previous visit to this store both my lady and I have used, and was rudely told "No!, for employees only". This left my lady feeling racially profiled. Note: every item in this store is insultingly more expensive than any other place you could purchase them at. As this store is not too close to the Village, it would seem that being nice, courteous, and accomodating would be the standard. Nope! I am 65, and have been coming to Big Bear since I was a small child and always enjoy mountain hospitality, but it seems it doesn't exist here, nor do fair prices.

We figured a nice deli would be a good spot for lunch. At first, we weren't sure if the business was already closed for the day because all of the tables outside were already put away and the windows looked dark. We walked in and it was almost full. There are many typical options from the deli shop such as sandwiches, salads, soups, half and half combos, etc. There were also specials on the wall such as spaghetti. Steven ordered the BLT with Mac salad (the bacon looked nice and crispy, which is perfect) and I had the half soup and half sandwich. I ordered split pea soup which ended up being full of flavor and delicious. You only get three sandwich options of you do the half and half. (I forgot what the other two were) But I had the cold turkey. I didn't expect much from a cold turkey sandwich but I was impressed. It tasted fresh and delicious. The staff was great. They are all constantly helping each other and the gentleman who was helping serve had me chuckling numerous times with silly jokes or comments. They keep a surprisingly great variety of everyday essentials in stock--everything from milk and eggs to just about any quick item you might need. Plus, the girl working there is always incredibly nice and friendly, making it a great small business to support.

My sandwich (hummus) was good and a massive portion especially for the price, but that potato soup will live in memory as one of the best I've ever had. We bought 2 coffees (a 12 oz drip coffee with half and half and a 16 oz iced latte). We also got 2 bagel breakfast sandwiches. Our total was $39!!!!! Even my tiny drip coffee cost significantly more than a Starbucks equivalent! The Quality I truly hate to say it because I want local businesses to be successful, but everything was low quality. My drip coffee was lukewarm when I got it, my wife said she prefers iced coffee from del taco compared to the one she had here. But the really disappointing thing was the sandwiches. First, they came out heaped with lettuce (on a breakfast sandwich???) I've never seen that before, and we didn't ask for it. After we picked the lettuce off of the sandwiches they were very small (especially for the price!!) I managed to eat about 2 bites of mine before I couldn't stomach it anymore. It was just bad. The sausage patty tasted freezer burned and was extremely dry and the egg white was undercooked. I love an over easy egg, but this was not that. This egg was not cooked enough to be served. My wife made it about 1 bite further than I did, then she had to call it quits. All in all, we paid $40 to throw away our sandwiches and drink aggressively mediocre coffee. What really sucks is that I want to support local businesses! I would love to keep going to a small local shop. But when they rob us blind and serve food like that, I can't justify it.
