They are a great store; a little more expensive than Food 4 Less but more brand names and selection. You learn what time to go with experience, but clerks are great and they open more check out lines as it gets busier. Check the weekly store specials flyer and you can actually save money. Don't go in there hungry, every store likes that, but get the ad and make a list; don't worry about saving pennies, because gas to another store will cost you more than pennies and your time is valuable too. read more

It's great that you are updating your grocery store inside and out, to improve the service inside you need to retrain your baggers on how to bag meat, with meat products, fresh vegetables don't go with boxes or cans as they can bruse the vegetables, as for the cashiers some need a class on friendly interaction, hello, do you have bags, have a nice day. This store should be ashamed of itself! The second you walk through the doors you can feel the heat in there. It felt better outside. The whole time shopping I felt I was going to pass out. The poor employees are wearing long sleeves because they can't have tattoos showing but you have employees with dingy stained white shirts on and a full face of facial hair. This stores employees looks crazy. 10 years ago you could walk in and it was a better environment. Starting off, from the two employees I spoke to they were very kind and helpful ! I went on thanksgiving morning and they were fairly busy. The employees were working hard and still kept a positive attitude! My only concern is I purchased a pumpkin pie, I'm not sure if they make these pumpkin pies here at their bakery or not, but I found two hairs in mine. One was laying on top along the crust and I figured it was my husbands while opening it..... but cutting a slice I found another one embedded in it. The person who made it mixed it in there and it's quite disgusting tbh.... So if y'all are making these in the back please wear a hair net... or shave you beard or mustache cause y'all can't be working the food industry with those. This is the second time that I've bought meat at Stater Brothers and had to ask for a refund because the meat that was sold was expired, smelled weird and/or old brown ground beef was mixed with somewhat new ground beef. The carne asada that was bought the day before looked like it had red food dye to make it look like it was new meat, in my opinion, but the meat smelled badly and was actually brown. Several weeks before, we had the same problem with buying a roast there and the meat was expired. We tried to give Stater Bros a second chance but it seems like we are going to have to buy our meat somewhere else. The good thing about Staters Bros is that they refunded our money each time but our plans for a bbq were ruined for New Years. I would suggest buying your meat at Costco or somewhere else, perhaps in Apple Valley or Victorville. read more

Start with the fact this is the only grocery store in town if you don't care to shop at WalMart. There aren't choices. This is basically where I have to go. And for the most part, it's been fine, but over the last few months, it's become a shambles. Grocery shopping is the most stressful part of my week. Tonight the highlight was a kid in pyjamas leading her dog around the crowded store. There are visibly inebriated people every evening. Absolutely no mask enforcement. Giant lines. I mentioned the kid with the dog to the checkout clerk and she told me there was no point in telling management because they wouldn't do anything. It's like Mad Max: The Frozen Foods Aisle. If I get Covid, this will be where it happens. There's a limit to the products I'm expecting on the shelves in this small town, but lately it's like we live in a 3rd world country. No bottled water (the water isn't safe to drink here so that's a necessity). No paper towels (forget even hoping for organic/recycled paper products). Shelves are empty. I get it, there are supply chain problems. But this is every time I walk through the doors, it's like a crapshoot what I will or won't find that I need. I will keep going there because I don't have a choice but it's not a good experience. read more

Hello, I just want to say I had thee best experience at staters. I really don't go there so I don't know which isle to look for stuff. A beautiful worker came up to me and noticed I was lost she graciously said hi to my granddaughter and asked if I needed help, I told her I needed a few items to dye eggs. Well she politely took me to each isle where the supplies were (still continuing to talk to my granddaughter) she even gave her Easter pictures to color. If I was in town with four grocery stores which can only support maybe three, I would really be keeping customers foremost in every way. I have not seen such a FILTHY restroom in a long time. The sign off on the back of the door was signed off for the whole day; to fool the boss (which tells me the boss doesn't check). There was NO toilet paper with TWO dispensers (which means it hasn't been checked in days). The floor was black dirty in several spots and used paper towels all over the floor. I love my local Stater Bros. Everything is always clean and well stocked, I'm a regular so it's nice to see the same cashiers and a familiar face when I shop there. They are always so friendly, having someone bag the groceries and place them in my cart is service you can't find anywhere else these days. This store is okay, but that's it, just okay. It's the "fancy" grocery store in Barstow but it doesn't compare to upscale grocery stores in other communities. The only other comparable choice in Barstow is Walmart, especially now that Vons is closing. When I'm in Barstow, I shop at Stater Bros for some vegan options, which are priced too high but the store has no competition so there's no alternative. Prices are high. No deli. (What grocery store of that size has no deli?) No coffee stand. With no deli or coffee stand, there's no fresh, hot coffee of any kind available at all. read more

I got pretty often, and they workers are always helpful and so nice especially Christine, she is always there to help and she is so friendly and she is overall great at her job. Had stopped in town to grab somethings this weekend and was completely unsatisfied. The store was completely packed with 2 lines through the ENTIRE ISLE. And guess how many cashiers there were? ONLY 2. Check stands 4 and 5 to be exact. I then asked to speak to a manager and the employee RUDELY told me that there's "no manager on duty.". This store used to be my favorite when coming into town, and it's gone to absolute shit. Management has gone downhill. Was at Staters yesterday holy cow Busy! Customers rude sorry for being negative about the customer part but you would think we would all be a lil more caring and a lil more patient to each other considering everything going on right now.....I've never seen lines in the meat and deli area.....however the workers there were all nice and very helping I did run in to the sweet and cool cashier Christine again unfortunately I wasn't in her line it was a little long but in the one next to her. Again she had a smile on her face telling jokes and making her customers laugh thru all this craziness!! Today I came in about around at 11 to go shopping as I usually do and when I do come in I try to stay away from the meat counter as much as possible because of the heavier set lady is very rude and I have gotten into it with her a few times. I would just prefer to stay away from her. But I am a fragile old lady and I use the little carts they do provide for anyone with a disability. I was at the meat case and I went to back up and I accidentally hit this woman which I feared and it was a accident and I did say I'm so sorry and I do apologize for that it was an accident. The woman proceeded to call me stupid and tell me watch out where I am going. I did feel bad but I said I was so sorry and I didn't mean to I moved the handle bars the wrong way. I moved along after that and I was at the other isle to see what she would say and she told another co worker that I was stupid and that she always has an attitude when I come in. The establishment is not very good when I do see her but on the other hand the store is very good read more

Review of cashier "Donna R" at Barstow Stater Bros: I stopped by early this morning to buy some roses for Valentine's Day. It was not busy since it was early in the morning at about 7:30 AM, but only one checkout line was lighted up and available, so it didn't make a difference. So, it seems it defeats the purpose of going at different time of day. After the customer in front of me at the line was complete, the cashier started scanning items for the customer who was behind me at the line, bypassing and ignoring me. I also put the divider piece to make sure it was separate, but the cashier completely ignored I was there regardless. The customer who was behind me politely reminded the cashier that she's scanning the wrong items and that I was first at the line. Despite this, the cashier says, "Well, I already started this shit, so..." with a straight face and kept on scanning the items for the customer behind me. After waiting more until the customer behind me is done with, the customer was polite and had good conscience to tell me, "I'm sorry." It could have been based on racism. There was a clear decision that prevented one from doing the right things. This is not how customers should be treated. I hear some stories from acquaintances and friends in town about their experiences at this location, and I can see how and where they are coming from. We tend to wonder if what we're hearing about is true until we experience it ourselves. The grocery store is otherwise nice, clean, and well organized. It is just sad to see certain employees jeopardize the reputation of the organization and business. I cannot imagine how someone unprofessional who uses foul language right in front of customers as such was hired. This is a shameful example that gives a brand and a business a bad name. By looking at the parking lot, the volume of customers seems to be dwindling. Certain decisions in organizational structure speak a lot for themselves. I wish the best of luck for Stater Bros. Although the flowers and other products might be good here, I should've just gone to other places to get the same products where customers are treated more equally and respectfully, free from racism and favoritism. I am not sure if there is anyone else who was wrongfully treated like this as well, but I hope no one had to or has to go through this kind of horrible shopping experience in the future. My experience was unfortunate, but I hope reviewers can make a better, informed decision when they're trying to decide where to go for grocery shopping. This one is not it. read more
