The place was relatively empty when we got in, there were 2 other customers at tables. So why it took them about 30+ minutes to bring out the meat we requested I'm not sure. But this place is all you can eat, in 2 hours. Drinks are priced as extra. There was heaps of seating inside with vents for the bbq cookers. It's not a serve yourself (obviously) it's a they serve you kind of deal. Well. You HOPE they serve you I should say. We didn't get a plate that we ordered and trying to flag down the ever elusive staff is like trying to catch a unicorn. They said to put your hand up to change your charred plate you were cooking on. My arm literally fell off waiting for service. We then waited some more. And some more. We asked 2 waiters on their way past for a new plate. Then we waited some more. And then some more. You get the drift here guys. The only thing I enjoyed was the beef shoulders. The oxford beef was really bland & chewy. So you had to smother it in whatever you could get your hands on to eat it. They don't have sweet soy sauce, but tell you there's a sweet chilli that works just as well when you ask. There are also no condiment stations so you can't get your own. Sharing a small bowl of soy between 3 people was hard. And the thought of asking for more send me into a panic attack as I didn't want to wait another 45 minutes for sauce. There's a lot of waiting for your 2 hours of all you can eat. In the end we didn't end up asking for anything more to eat because I'd just about had enough. Left still hungry but paid $109 for the experience for 3 people. Plus there's a surcharge for using a card to pay. Will I ever go again? Ummm, let's put that down as a big NO.

The location was so off the typical path that if I didn't know about this restaurant, I would never have walked by and decided to stop by. The decor was classically Chinese and modern at the same time. On the traditional side, they had roasted ducks hanging off a rack, yet the interior was so beautifully and tastefully decorated that it didn't feel tacky or old-fashioned in an offensive way. The food was spot on. We ordered the following: 1. Kang-pao chicken 2. Bamboo, woodear and celery stir fry - this dish was punched with flavor, had great umami, my only complaint was that the bamboo shoots were a bit tough 3. Hot pot stuffed tofu with pork and shrimp in abalone sauce - this was a WINNER! This dish felt like home. It was so comforting and the flavors and textures were in perfect harmony. This dish was served hot which I loved since Sydney is still in winter. It was a perfect dish and the concept worked well. Service was excellent. 5/5 Ambiance was excellent 5/5 Food was good. 4.5/5 We had a great time! I recommend making a reservation. The restaurant is tucked away on a sort of back street. Kinda reminded me of the cool restaurants and speakeasies hidden in NYC's Chinatown. There are at least two floors from what I can see and the vibe is immaculate. Great date or group spot. My group had a reservation but we did have to wait a few minutes to be seated. Once we were, our server was awesome (I wish I remembered her name). But let's talk food. The oysters and Ora King Salmon were fantastic. We also ordered prawns, a certain beef order (I forget the exact names) as well as the special fried rice. Everything hit -- including the drinks. Looking forward to my next trip to Sydney (and hitting this spot up).

I usually prefer my beef medium rare, but it got mixed with the pork, so everything got cooked well done. If my beef was cooked medium rare, this would probably be a 5 star review. Sirloin Beef $39 AUD - Beautifully marbled. Marinated Beef Ribs $36AUD - This was good and had generous meat. We ordered too much meat, but amazingly we finished it all, so it had to have been really good. Cheese Corn Side Dish - Okay, too cheesy for me. I bet very few people say that, lol. Tofu Side Dish - I am not a tofu or soup person, so I did not try. They have both Korean and Australian beers, thank you. I chose to drink the local beers, as the Korean brand beers were the same as the U.S. Support locals. Atmosphere - Small local restaurant. Indoor/outdoor seating were very limited. Semi-open kitchen, see picture. You will be crammed in to maximize space. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 10:30pm. Not sure if they have bathrooms; sorry I can not remember and I did not take a picture. Service - Full service. They actually cook the food for you at your table. Both the owner and waiter cooked for us. I really appreciated that. But I am also sure they do that to turn the tables faster, good business practice. Win/win. Price - See menu, Korean foods are always a little on the expensive side, but when you take into consideration the current US exchange rate, it was a sale for us. :) Owner Comment - Congrats on your success.

The southern side of Fairfield station entertains a number of Lao/Thai restaurants and Khoune Kham…read moreis one that I have frequented a few times over the past year. Traditional Lao Thai food is a bit more adventurous than normal Thai food of the sort you find in Thaitown or King Street Newtown. Conveniently located across the road from the station with parking available right across the street - the eatery is 1 of 3 on this block and probably is in 2nd spot in terms of popularity. I go to this one as each time it is busy enough but I can still walk in and get a table without waiting. This is definitely a family run business and the front of house is run by the kids and the kitchen seems to be manned by the parents/elders. I have received pretty friendly service here from the wait staff and which rounds off a cheap great tasting meal. My tip for ordering at a Lao place is to forego the carbs and order the salads and meats. I don't normally get the noodle, curry or rice dishes - if people in your group can't eat without some carbs, then get the sticky rice to go with the meats and salads. My favourite salad is the Lao green papaya salad with fermented crab. Only ask for hot if you're a freak chili eater as it is HOT! If the strong pungent fermented crab is too much for you, then go for the squid or beef salads - both are good. When eating the salads, nibble on a bit of cabbage or a mint leaf for an extra flavour kick. For something a bit different, get the burnt rice and 'ham' salad - awesome contrast of textures and flavour. As for the meats, I always order the Lao sausage and grilled ox tongue. The ox tongue should be crisp on the edges and tender in the middle - if it is tough then they have overcooked it. Khoune Kham has never failed to deliver on some tender ox tongue. The deep fried quail is also highly recommended. Prices are quite competitive, with most dishes around the $10 mark. I think the correct number of dishes to order is the # of people in your party + 2. So if you have 4 people, order 6 dishes.
