Wow...all I can say is Mark is amazing! He is so friendly and really makes sure that he is doing everything he can to make your special day the best day ever. If we ever emailed him with a question, he would respond promptly with a phone call and was able to address any and ever concern or question that we had. Mark was the MC and DJ at my wedding last month. He is a gem. Prior to the wedding, he have us an extensive list of songs to choose from, as well as suggestions for different segments of the wedding. He printed up a schedule of activities and sent it to the caterer, photographer and videographer. He provided music for both ceremony and reception. At the ceremony we had planned on using one of his mikes, but there were two rabbis, and in no time he had two clip-on wireless mikes for them plus the handheld mike for us. Wow! He even worked with the videographer to so he had clean audio going directly to his camera. Mark played soft jazz during cocktails and the meal, and the dance tunes we had requested. Mark, is AMAZING!!! I mean amazing. When picking a DJ I really think of it as picking an organizer, manager, emcee, and time magician. It is SO MUCH MORE then music. So much more and Mark delivered. Heck, he took charge of stuff we didn't even know we needed help with. First let me say, he gave us peace of mind. So many vendors you work with need time lines, answers, info and Mark helped us to create the schedule and flow of the day. He then made a schedule and communicated with other vendors. I mean he knew answers before I had the questions. Once we met with him I felt a huge burden lifted from my shoulders. He has done so many weddings, he know whats next way before you do. That being said, with his online music election and questions it allows him the tools to tailor your wedding so it truly represents you. Our music ran from Beatles, to punk, to the Saints Go Marching In...and he got in all in seamlessly. We had opted to have a "song request" in our RSVP. I wasn't sure if this would be a burden to Mark but it actually worked great. He gives you access to an online profile where you answer questions and select your music. Within that there is a notes section. I simply added the note for each person and their request. What was great was then he mentioned the person's name and that just made everyone feel like part of the festivities plus made them get up and dance when there song was on. He also managed the day for us and never made us feel rushed or pressured. Behind the scenes he organized the time and cheerily asked us if it was fine. I loved it! Summary: Mark is organized, prepared, experienced, and charismatic -- exactly the type of DJ you are looking for at your wedding reception. He was my favorite wedding vendor hands down. Mark was referred by my wedding venue Hiddenbrooke Golf in Vallejo. After checking out some basic information on his website, I decided to make an appointment. He was very flexible about time and location, and we ended up meeting him at a Starbucks. He was very friendly and fun, not pushy, and had information on paper for us. We didn't book him right away, but confirmed the following week. It was a whole year before our wedding, and my biggest concern was that my vendors would forget about us (or go out of business!). But Mark was excellent about keeping in touch with me. Several months before the wedding, he sent reminders about the reception schedule, music list, and final meeting. When we met him for a last time about a month before the big day, I noticed that he had brought a file of all our correspondences. He was a lifesaver in terms of the reception schedule, because we really didn't know if our proposed schedule would work or if it would be packed and interesting for our guests. He reviewed our proposal and made helpful suggestions. On the big day, Mark arrived hours early to set up the music equipment. Oh ya, he also threw in some nice lighting for free. He dressed very nicely in a tux (exactly like the picture) and sounded very professional with a big voice. He helped keep us on schedule, raise the energy level, and make things fun. He was also very flexible, playing a couple Chinese songs we had emailed him ahead of time, as well as knowing when to fade out an unpopular song for, say, the electric slide (I have pictures of guests with their hands over their heads and having a great time). He just did everything right! Pros: - Sounds just like an announcer/DJ should sound -- big voice, entertaining, fun. Says the right things at the right times. - Very experienced with wedding schedules. He knew how much time should be spent on each event, which was helpful because we didn't have a wedding planner. - Very experienced with music selection. We picked some favorites, and a whole bunch of exclusions (sorry, no Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, or Celine Dion at our wedding), but he filled in the rest. - Great sound equipment. We had soft, background music for dinner, and clear, lively music for dancing. Also 2 mics for speeches. Cons: - Umm, he doesn't speak Chinese? We met Mark at the Fall Martinez Bridal Fair 2010. At the fair he was very professional and charismatic that my fiance and I pretty much decided that we would ask him to DJ our wedding. His prices were very reasonable and he wasn't pushy to get us to sign up with him. Once we signed the contract he would periodically email us was great at reminding me about selecting the music, turning in the timeline..etc. He had great suggestions about songs that would start everyone dancing. He asked me about the age crowd and we decided to mix in some 60s music that would get the older generation dancing as well. Everyone danced and had a lot of fun and said our DJ had done a wonderful job :) Although this is not advisable...! He worked with my ever changing timeline (mainly because people who were going to do speaches backed out last minute). He was very patient and gave me great opinions and suggestions. We hired Mark for our daughter's Bat Mitzvah which took place at Scott's Seafood Restaurant in Walnut Creek. (Scott's did a fantastic job as well). Mark's planning tools were great, and we appreciated the effort and time devoted to personally meeting with the family to go over the details. Mark's company specializes in weddings, but I understand they also handle all types of events, from Birthday parties to Corporate holiday parties. I've hired Mark for four events. He did my step-daughters wedding 18 years ago. He just did a birthday party for over a hundred people at The Great Highway in San Carlos. I can't say enough good things about him I'm a perfectionist and believe me when I put an event together I'm checking on everyone and everything. We put a video together and he brought the projector the venue provided a 5 foot screen he provide a 10 foot screen and needless to say we used his. I wasn't even aware that he had brought a screen. We had the pleasure of having Mark as our wedding DJ (10/12/2012). My husband & I cannot say enough awesome things about him & his servce. He was the preffered DJ for our venue (Wildwood Acres), and now we know why. All my phone & in-person meetings were very informative and put me, the bride, at ease every time. I booked him off my sister wedding, which was a few years ago, and I was not disappointed. He was great then and he is great now. He has a paper that has times written out that you just fill in. I know you usually think of a DJ for weddings or parties, but we hired Mark to play music for my Mother's Celebration of Life ceremony recently. Mark's professionalism carried beyond the music selections. He was very respectful and caring in his handling of our event.
