I went to Silver State Hearing because I was hoping to hear better with their hearing aids. I was NOT informed that they charge $300 for just trying any hearing aid. Had I been informed, I would have gone elsewhere. I had problems with them in 2018 and decided to try them again with a different audiologist but NEVER AGAIN!! read more

Regretfully, I have to give 2 stars. I always prefer to five 5, especially to a local business. But I was lied to, cheated, misled, manipulated... into buying ($3400!) a hearing aid that has never worked properly. I can't return it, and I can't use it. A useless, expensive device that only causes stress. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sadly, after multiple attempts to resolve the issue, clearly THEY DON'T CARE. They got my money. End of story.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I probably have 30+ years of hearing aids purchases and audiology care ahead of me, but they took a short-sighted approach, and decided to keep the money and loose me as a customer (and any referrals I might have) forever. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is Nancy Henderson. WOW. I'm impressed. First of all, if you're interested in Lyric invisible hearing aids (I call them "bionic ears"), which are popular with musicians because of the natural sound, this is one of the only two places in town that offers them, and the only one with enough experience to know how to work through the kinks. Regarding hearing aid strategy, I don't know that he could make a habit of this, but Dr. Hodes at the Reno office has let me (an adult daughter) come in several times for special troubleshooting and strategy consultations for parents and just charged for his time. This has been invaluable. For example, my dad feels like his hearing aid is not helping much in background noise. Well, did you know that if you only wear a hearing aid in your good ear, it never will? Basically, the brain requires both sides active to be able to block out background noise. Not only that, with only one ear, you lose "binaural summation" (the brain perceives the sound as 6 DB lower, as much as 3 notches on the TV!). So, why is it that nobody we've ever seen has ever told us this before? He also told us about a new model coming out that is the first that will be compatible with the new Low Energy for Speech Bluetooth coming out next year, and that has more AI for background noise-- and that Phonak is NOT switching to the new standard until they're forced to (probably they have a bunch of older chips they're trying to clear out first). This new standard the other manufacturers are adopting should fix connectivity issues (which apparently bedevil pretty much EVERY brand-- other than the Lyrics, which are analog). So, I think, that's it for Phonak and us. If you're reading this in 2023 or 2024, I think this new Bluetooth and AI is an argument for going and splashing out on the best stuff, versus going to Costco, which has great prices but is always a year or two behind. Dr. Hodes was respectful with my father and didn't treat him like a dummy just because he's older. Dr. May did my hearing exam (I got tired of frustrated parents saying "Maybe YOU should get your hearing checked!"), and she was nice too. The people working there seem to enjoy each other. When I was in, they were having a Halloween pumpkin-decorating contest. One last note: I think you can tell a lot about a place by the details, and it matters that the bathroom was sparkling clean and tidy. I think it's a sign of good management overall, when details about staff and customer experience are not falling through the cracks. In sum, highly recommended and two thumbs up. I wish I could take my out-of-state relatives here too. If you've decided that hearing well is too important to mess around with, go here. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]He doesn't listen well and doesn't seem to care.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He has a One-Size fits all approach and treated me like a second-rate citizen as he talked over me and acted as if I was a problem client. Needless to say, I won't be returning to this practice since I found a much better option. I experienced the audiologist as cold and unwelcoming. She made presumptions about my experience with my hearing, did not treat my questions as if they were important, talked over me. The testing started with the volume so loud in my left ear that I nearly jumped out of the chair. Because of that, even though I am quite aware that my hearing in my right ear is much worse than in my left, the testing showed them being the same. The tester had a slight accent which also interfered with my ability to understand some of the words she was reading. This was an altogether unpleasant experience. I felt like she was rushing through to her sales pitch about hearing aids. Not a chance that I'm buying them at this establishment or from this audiologist who's did a shoddy job of testing my hearing. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the staff in the front are lovely. read more

I can't speak for the medical care here because I never got that far! I called to make an appointment and the attitude I got from the phone answering person was horrible! I don't know who is providing service to who, but if your Monday morning has been horrible, don't take it out on me. I've been a patient of Silver State Hearing & Balance in Sparks for about 18 months now. They are THE BEST! I'm really happy with the service and care I received from Dr Christine at silver State hearing and balance. I have been slowly losing my hearing since my childhood. In recent years, especially when mask mandates were around and it was hard to see people's mouths, I would really started noticing how much it was affecting my everyday life. I decided to go in and get my hearing checked. Dr Christine was thorough, professional, kind, warm, and full of information. She definitely felt that I would benefit from hearing aids given I have tinnitus, a constant high-pitched ringing in the ears, and moderate hearing loss in the speech frequencies. It took a while for my hearing aids to come in because everything has been affected by chip shortages. However once they got there Dr Christine was great at helping me set them up, pairing them with my phone, and explaining what to expect over the next few weeks before my next follow up. I was really happy to have a follow up with her because we were able to adjust them to make them more comfortable and honestly I am really happy I made the investment in my ears. Definitely recommend Dr Christine and her team. I'm very happy to have met her and will definitely continue to refer people her way. read more

Back in Sept / Oct last year, my ENT doctor sent me here for Balance Testing for Vertigo ( I had been in hospital four days with this condition). Although the office is clean and the ladies that work there are nice, I had a bad experience with one of the Audiologist (name starts with "H"). In a rush he came in and yanked wax out of my ear (nothing to soften it) to rush the testing along. Blood immediately squirted from the ear and I loss my hearing. He told me it would have to heal to get my hearing back. He tried to complete the test even though I had a raw ear and it really hurt so he stopped. I don't think he should have proceeded to shoot hot air into an ear that was hurting. I felt like this person does not like working with older people as he was flippant and aloof. I am shocked that I came in after being referred for testing for the vertigo and that now I lost much of my hearing in that one ear. I went back to the ENT doctor and he sent me back here as he told me he could do nothing for the vertigo until I completed the tests. I was here once again, completed a hearing test and was told I needed hearing aides for both ears. I told them "no" I would wait for the ear to heal and go from there. I was upset and trying to find a way for this doctor to help me. Since I was stuck with this Audiologist, I knew I had to see if I could change his brash attitude towards me. I decided to give him a five star review and sure enough, next time I went in he was nicer to me and called me "his favorite patient". Later, I realized I could not leave a false review just to get his help so I took it down. But it did prove a point that his attitude toward me changed. I never went back and also dropped my ENT who sent me there. I found a wonderful ENT who sent me to a Sacramento Specialist who did surgery to remove the scar tissue and graft skin in the ear to get my hearing back. This doctor told me hearing aides would not have worked because since I lost the skin in my right ear, the scar tissue built up and blocked my ear drum. And my hearing was good in the other ear. I can hear again and am so thankful that I used my intuition to drop this place and move on. BUT this Audiologist put me through 9 months of suffering with hearing loss and surgery. I won't be back and if I ever need help I will head to Sacramento. read more

I heard good things about Silver State. My appointment went ok (I guess) but I didn't feel like the audiologist listened to my hearing issues. I have tinnitus. She didn't ask questions. I wouldn't recommend them but then I wouldn't tell someone to go elsewhere. There was a referral mix-up also, and once again she didn't listen when I told her where to send the referral. I'm going elsewhere for a second opinion, and personally wouldn't go back there. read more

I visited last week for a hearing evaluation and counseling for getting an ear prosthetic. The office is amazingly clean and the front staff is professional and courteous. They set the standard in these areas. The audiologist who administered my hearing test seems to know her stuff. Her name is Nancy and I found her to be professional and focused. Unfortunately she's a bit brusque and needs to work on her interpersonal communication skills. Here's where things turned ominous. Nancy confirmed what I suspected and said I would benefit from a hearing aid. She went straight into salesperson mode. She danced around disparaging the competition and became aggressive when talking about Costco. I never brought up them up, but she spent five minutes critiquing their products and hearing techs. I don't begrudge someone making a sales commission, but she was practically salivating when trying to upsell me. I felt like I was on a car lot. There's a way to promote the brands sold through your office without disparaging the competition. Aggressive upselling is not cool. Office staff: ***** Audiologist: **** Sales Pitch: * I recommend this clinic for hearing tests and ENT visits. If you buy a hearing aid through them be aware that the audiologist isn't so much interested in getting something that fits your needs and budget. Their commission is the sole concern. My audiologist was visibly deflated when I said flat out that a $6000 pair of hearing aids wasn't feasible especially in light of my mild to moderate hearing loss. Caveat Emptor read more

Although he was a resident, he was extremely kind and knowledgeable; made me feel safe and comfortable the whole time. I went to Silver State Hearing to get my hearing tested and saw Kayla, the resident audiologist. She was gentle and thorough and explained everything she was doing. When it came to finding the "right" hearing aid, she explained the differences, what she would recommend specifically for me and why. I was not rushed through any part of the appointment. She even took the time and explained to my husband why he had always had problems with his hearing aids so now he knows what to go back to his doctor and question.
