No one, absolutely no one wants to have their wisdom teeth removed. But, if you have to get them removed best to have them removed by a kind, friendly, and professional team. Dr. Melendrez is that person. My son's dentist suggested Silver State and Dr. Melendrez. We went in for a consult and went over why my son needed his wisdom teeth removed. They went over complications and best results. We then spoke to the receptionist who informed use of the total amount we would need to pay and what our insurance covered. We then brought our son back for his appointment and the removal of all 4 wisdom teeth. I was greatly pleased that the office called the following morning to check on my son and see if everything was going well. What great customer service. We went back for a follow up appointment a week after surgery, to make sure everything was going well and the sutures were dissolving. My son was able to go back to eating his favorite foods just one week after surgery. We were very pleased with this office from front to back and the Dr. If you are looking for a dental surgeon I highly recommend Dr. Melnedrez.

Best oral surgery experience- thank you!

I just got three of my wisdom teeth removed yesterday at this office (1 of my wisdom teeth I had…read morealready gotten removed under local and laughing gas), but my experience starts actually a week prior. I noticed my right lower wisdom tooth causing me a lot of pain. That made me really upset, since I had a pretty awful experience at the last oral surgery office I went to, who wanted to book me out several weeks in the future for just a CONSULTATION, didn't make any effort to coordinate insurances, and wanted me to do an additional xray on top of the one they already had on file and from my referring dentist, costing me an additional $200-$300 on top of the surgery. I also really did not like the staff of that previous office, who seemed like they couldn't give a crap about any of their patients. It's pretty clear that all they cared about was money there. So with that in mind, I was not super pleased with the idea of going the oral surgery route again. I decided to call this office, Northern Nevada Oral Surgery on a whim, no referral, since they had good reviews. The staff was so amazing answering my questions and so enthusiastic, which I really needed because of how scared I was. They had openings really soon for surgery and actually offered to get me in the next day. I decided to go with an appointment the following week. I was very surprised they offered same day consultations. I was a little wary of that, but they assured me that it's normal and offered to do just a consultation if I preferred. I really wanted to just yank these teeth out already, so I opted for the surgery. The front office was really awesome about contacting me about my insurance and getting everything verified extremely soon before my surgery. They had like two days to coordinate that, and did a very good job at communicating with me if they ran into any issues. The weekend before I was super nervous, of course. Just worrying about the worst. The morning of my surgery, all the staff were super understanding, compassionate, and communicative with me. As for the surgery, I knew I wouldn't be able to do just the local and nitrous for this appointment and decided to undergo IV sedation. I have TERRIBLE health anxiety and was scared of something going wrong or spontaneously dying in the middle of surgery. Luckily, nothing bad happened! I was awake during the surgery and could sort of tell what was going on but I was in a haze for it. Surgery was super quick. My surgeon was Dr. Hammon I believe and he was SOOOOO nice to me and my guest/ DD, as was all the staff. Also, the CVS that my prescriptions were sent to spontaneously closed due to a power outage, so we called and the office sent my script to a different cvs by end of day. I'm currently sitting at home, sore in the face, with chipmunk cheeks, and I am so happy with my choice to get this surgery done with this office. Had I known this office would have given me the experience they did, I would have elected to come here for my first surgery and gotten it done much sooner. I just am glad to know that people like this are out here making this process easier for those of us with horrible anxiety who tend to push things off because you don't want to deal with them. This office versus my last oral surgeon will remain a lesson for me about comfort versus discomfort and how to pick a place to better support me and my needs. I had a great experience here and would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

I had my procedure done on a Friday and didn't receive my antibiotic until the following week after calling the office and requesting for a script. My mouth ended up getting infected leaving me with having to take 2 rounds of antibiotics, painkillers and muscle relaxers prescribed by my own VA dentist. I DO NOT recommend this clinic for ANY procedure. I filed a VA complaint, I have no idea what became of it, but I warn other veterans not to go here.

My son is recovering quite nicely and everything went smooth that's the way medical and dental care should be done to care for the patient not a money grab to buy that 2nd or 3rd home or investment property. Lol. Well if you want friendly staff in the back part of the office like the dentist and there assistant then go here you might have to pay a lot higher then other places. I truly did not want to hash out a one-sided account of this experience on social media. After an…read moreextremely painful and traumatic tooth extraction, I wanted to address my concerns directly with Dr. Galea and his practice first--giving them the opportunity to hear what happened, and respond to my concerns. Unfortunately, after speaking with the office manager and then Dr. Galea himself, I came away almost as disappointed by their response as I was traumatized by the procedure itself. I was referred to Dr Galea from my dentist for an infection in an upper molar -- in a tooth that previously had a root canal and a crown. From the moment I entered the exam room, I felt rushed. Since they had squeezed me in at the last minute because of the pain I was in, I initially gave them some grace. I had several questions, and stressed some needed to be answered *before* the extraction, not afterward. Dr. Galea came in, quickly answered some of my questions, gave me Novacaine, and left while I got numb. The injection was painful, but I expected that and pushed through it. What was never explained was that, because of the infection/location of the tooth, Novacaine might not adequately control my pain. When Dr. Galea returned, he said he was testing to see if I was numb. He tapped the crown of the affected tooth and I let out a scream. To me, that tooth did not feel numb at all. Despite my obvious reaction, the extraction proceeded. I was twice told I would feel "pressure." What I actually felt was excruciating pain--easily the worst pain I have ever experienced, and I consider myself to have a high pain tolerance. Thankfully, the extraction was fast. But afterwards the area remained intensely painful--worse than before the tooth was removed. I was told to expect pain as the novacaine wore off -- but there never was a sense of any numbing left to wear off - just the intense pain of the extraction. I drove home with tears running down my face (am still surprised I was able to drive). Once home, I took a Hydrocodone and finally got some relief about 20 minutes later. I anxiously awaited a post-op call so I could share my story with them. That call came two days later. The first person I spoke with seemed genuinely concerned and referred me to the office manager, Kimberly. Unfortunately, Kimberly was cold and businesslike. She explained that they don't guarantee pain-free extractions, sometimes Novacaine isn't enough, and once a procedure begins it can't be stopped. I pointed out that I screamed when Dr. Galea said he was still *testing* whether I was numb. Her response was that they can only give so much Novacaine. For context, I received only one round. I've had other dental procedures where additional numbing medication was given when the first wasn't sufficient. That didn't happen here. Kimberly also repeatedly emphasized that the procedure was a "success" because the infected tooth was removed. My issue was never whether or not the tooth came out. My issue was the extreme pain, the lack of communication beforehand, and how my distress was handled. Had I known adequate pain control could be difficult, I could have asked about my options--including managing the pain overnight, fasting, and returning the next day for an extraction under anaesthesia. I initially declined a follow-up because I was so traumatized, I didn't want to see Dr. Galea again. I later reconsidered because I wanted to make sure I was healing properly, so I returned 3 days later. As I described my experience to Dr. Galea, I tried to hold back the tears, but was unsuccessful. It was still too raw. He explained that although I screamed when he tapped the affected tooth, he had tested other areas I wasn't aware of, which indicated I was numb. He also explained that infection can affect surrounding tissue and pain control can't always be guaranteed. That brought me right back to my original concern: **Why wasn't any of this explained to me before the extraction?** Ironically, every time I called the office and was placed on hold, I heard Dr. Galea's recorded message about patient care and comfort being their number-one goal. That was definitely not my experience. I wasn't looking for compensation or anything else from this practice. I brought my concerns directly to them because I wanted compassion, acknowledgment of what I went through, an apology, and perhaps some reassurance that a future patient might be better informed beforehand. Instead, I received explanations for why it happened, but never the empathy or apology I was hoping for. After my follow-up, I read some of Dr. Galea's 1-star Yelp reviews and wished I'd read them sooner. Seeing that I'm not the only patient reporting a troubling experience, combined with the lack of empathy and accountability I experienced afterwards, is why I ultimately decided to add my own 1-star review. I hope sharing my experience helps someone else make a more informed decision.
