They did an adequate job on my procedure, but after it was done they told me I owed another $350 because my insurance wouldn't cover the procedure. This was a standard root canal, not emergency surgery, so it seems to me they could have checked with my insurance in advance and told me up front how much I would owe. It seems to me that this is a somewhat deceptive practice on their part, so I warn anyone considering Reno Smiles to read the small print and make sure that you know what kind of costs you will face going in. They answered all my questions and was so patient with me. The oral surgery went better than I expected. I wasn't sedated since I didn't have anyone that could drive me home afterwards. I decided on nitrous oxide to reduce the anxiety and fear. Dr. Melendrez gave me the novocaine and stayed in the room and chatted until it was time to get started. It was a very nice conversation and it put me at ease. He worked quick. The extraction and the bone graft took less than 15 minutes. There was barely any swelling or pain. I highly recommend Dr. Melendrez and his staff especially if you are anxious going to the dentist.

I explained that I did confirm through the text system, just like we always have. Claudia at the front desk was very kind and explained they've been having issues with the confirmation system and said they could still see my daughter. A couple technicians came out and said they would get her in shortly, but then another technician came out and said my daughter had been removed from the schedule because we didn't confirm. When I explained what the front desk had told us about the system issue, she said it didn't matter because they were no longer taking 4 PM appointments. When I said maybe we should just leave, she said yes, we should. The manager who we have known for a very long time was standing there during this entire interaction and didn't say a word. After nearly 10 years as patients, being told to leave over what appears to be a system error was shocking. There are plenty of dentists in the area who are actually "gentle" and treat families with kindness and respect. We will be taking our family to one of them instead. I hope the office takes a closer look at how situations like this are handled in the future so other long-time patients aren't treated the same way.

He promptly and kindly examined me and told me that eventhough i came for the broken tooth, that tooth is nit his main concern as much as the one across and in the rear (#15)... he went over my options , we decided on a custom feeling for the broken one and crown for the bad one, he was extreamly reasonable and even gave me extra loving once he heard I was a disabled veteran and literally said to me..."if you can handle the chair. I'll get on you now and fix it all"....and he did...3.5 hours later, im all set and done, they do everything in house and the technology I've seen them use was mind-blowing! Made the appointment and they did more scans (290) which is already annoying. Why not look at the scans I already paid for. The they gave me "the pitch" on cracked teeth. Then he said I shoul# get an extraction and implant which would not count the new tooth (4000+). I said I can't afford that and they pushed a credit card. I said let's just do an extraction and they said (2000). Why is an extraction more than a root canal? Because they are adding in bone grafts. I should have known not to trust a place in the mall. Finally at 1127am... Follow up response owner asking me to call -- Why should I waste more of my time for you to improve ? It's called communicate with your patients honestly, better scheduling and don't stack appointments back to back. I wanted to get a second opinion regarding the treatment that was recommended to me. I completely respect that dentists have their own professional recommendations, and I understand they may believe certain procedures are necessary. However, I also believe patients have the right to seek a second opinion before making a decision. Since I currently have no pain, discomfort, or concerns, I asked if I could simply receive the basic cleaning that my insurance covers. I was told they would not provide it because of other treatment recommendations. While I respect their policy, it wasn't the outcome I was hoping for. I then requested copies of my dental records so I could consult another dentist. I was told I needed to sign a release form, which was fine. The office sent the form by email, but it ended up in my spam folder, so I didn't see it until Monday morning. Once I found it, I completed the form and went to the office to obtain my records. Throughout the process, I felt like I had to work much harder than necessary just to get information and access my own records. During one phone call, I explained my situation to an employee, and instead of telling me she was transferring me, I was placed on silence. A different person eventually picked up, and I had to explain everything all over again. Overall, I left feeling like communication could have been much better. I respect the clinical judgment of the providers, but I didn't feel the office made it easy for me to ask questions or obtain my records for a second opinion. Based on my personal experience, I would choose another dental office in the future. And on top I asked I'll be there in 20 min to picked my records and I showed up 1 hour later and still made me wait to do what I asked. So unprofessional service.

Not sure how this was determined, because it was a rushed job. Simply looked at a few teeth with a mirror and made the determination. Did not even have the x-rays in the room to go over. Sought a second opinion from another dentist, who determined that #2 tooth was healthy and #30 was not. The irony is that he used the x-rays taken at Gentle Dental. He also used other methods and conversation that a place emphasizing profit over care would not be concerned about. In any case, this place is either selling services not required or incompetent. Either are disqualifiers. If proper care is expected see a true dentist in private practice and not a dental mill.
