We stopped at Taj for a late dinner, very excited to experience this spinoff of the famous Taj restaurant in South Portland! We got a quick seat at the bar and the staff was patient with us (we had a few pre-dinner drinks). The drinks were delicious and the food was very tasty! I will say that I think the chicken curry entree's sauce had broke (if that's possible in Indian cuisine). But the taste was very good, nonetheless! The restaurant is dark, but the accent lighting makes you feel like you're in an elegant setting (I think because of how small the space is)! read more

Silver Street has some solid cocktails and I'm a big fan of their martini menu (try the Silver Lady). The bartenders and servers are fantastic and the atmosphere is cozy. I'd skip the food as the butter chicken was just ok. The dish is served with the rice at the bottom and then is completely covered by the sauce which is not my personal preference. read more

It's the early days of Taj Silver Street, so I'm optimistic they'll figure things out. But the concept baffles me. The original Taj is extremely popular for their delicious Indian food. Not for their drinks. They didn't even really have drinks until opening the new Clarks Pond location. So to start a satellite bar in the Old Port with essentially no food, and only drinks, is an odd decision. Now they're competing with the Blyth's, Room for Improvement, Cuties, Hunt & Alpine and other cocktails bars in the area, and Taj is worse. People will initially come for the name value, but I don't see them returning without pivoting the focus far more to food. Especially in winter. The renovations to the former North Point space are minor. The seating is now a lime green and the walls mainly consist of sound dampening panels. It's a nice vibe, and the sole server was excellent. But the food menu is basically non-existent. I hope you love Butter Chicken, as that's realistically all you can order. You can get it on a tortilla (a taco) as we did. It was a small portion and I was disappointed to see other taco orders after with double the amount of chicken in them. The Butter Chicken entree over rice looked much better, and that's what I would recommend. There's also a vegetarian taco and entree (not for me) and a flavorless cracker, along with a few desserts. And that's it for food. The cocktail menu is far more interesting, with 9 martinis and 8 more fun drinks on ice. Oddly, the best drink at Clarks Pond Taj, by far, isn't on the menu. The Taj Martini is one of my favorite drinks in the city, so to exclude it from the cocktail bar is an interesting choice. There's many great cocktail bars in the city, and all that currently separates Taj are the prices. The drinks are $2-$4 cheaper here than most other options, though that could change by the time you read this. Taj Silver Street is a nice cocktail bar. But at the moment, that's all it is. I hope it embraces the well respected Taj name and focuses more on food in the future, as the Old Port has no popular Indian restaurants. read more

Great new addition to Portland area. They have a long bar and some seats out front. A cozy vibe with green accents. Everyone was so friendly and quick service. The menu is super small but I got the butter chicken tacos and they were amazing. The cocktails are fantastic with so many options. Wonderful experience from start to finish. Since they just opened two nights ago, we figured there was a slim chance we'd be able to get in, much less get a table. Instead, we were ushered inside, drink orders taken, and less than ten minutes later we were sat at a table. The drinks are the main event here. They look pretty, they come out fast, they're solid pours, and they taste delicious. My party had the old fashioned, negroni, paloma heat, pier pressure, and weekly special martini "tide & petal". All of them were great, but the special and pier pressure both stood out as clear winners. We also tried the Talwar, a collab IPA with Bissell that wasn't very punchy, but tasted good and was very drinkable. We split the butter chicken between a few of us, and it was delicious. Served over a hefty portion of rice with as many forks as you need, it definitely hits the spot after a few drinks. Great ambiance with very low light, a lot of neon colors, and throwback tunes that are loud, but not "prevent you from having a conversation" volume. The bartender, manager/proprietor, and waitress were all very friendly, and overall the experience was unexpectedly polished for a place that had just started service a few days prior. We will definitely be back for both food and drinks. read more

I came here with my husband last night after a long day of traveling. We're staying at a hotel near by and went on a walk after dinner and stumbled upon this place. What a swanky little bar tucked away in its own little space of town! This is why I love Portland. You'll never know what you'll find. The server was this delightful young lady and was so friendly and nice. My hubby had an old fashioned with some honey that he seemed to love as he had a few of them!! I had a limoncello spritz of some kind that they make in house and it was delish. Don't even get me started on the crème brulee. I could've had a second one it was so good! As a cocktail bar this place is cozy, fun, and affordable. Drinks are great, lots of options to try, a lot of house infusions, and a welcoming place to hangout. The food here makes sense. The location is small. The emphasis of the entire place is a cocktail bar with some small tastes of the Taj we all know and love. The expectation should be on the cocktails and not the food, the food is just an added plus!! I can't imagine what it takes every day for them to logistically prep the food and be able to have anything available here. Must take a lot of work. I'm a huge fan of the original Taj 5 stars. But was a little disappointed with Silver Street. I felt the food menu was too limited and the appetizer portion was not worth the cost. 2 small tortillas with a spoonful of garbanzo beans should not be $13. The drinks were excellent but the original wait for a service was long enough we were getting ready to leave. The vibe is great and I hope they can work out the bugs. read more
