My name is Stacey Rouse(this review is going under my husbands name for some reason ‍) but my experience with Silverstein is... STAY AWAY FROM THIS MAN!!!! He is only interested in volume instead of quality of care. During a routine cataract surgery he tore the sac that the lens goes in and failed to communicate this with me. I was on EXTENSIVE steroid drops for about 4 months. I kept telling him my eye was not right but he sent me away anyway with a "see ya in 6 months" (plus charged me for each visit that should have been included in follow up care) Thank goodness I got a 2nd opinion from Dr Skelsey (who is WONDERFUL) and found out my retina was swollen on top of everything else which needed medical attention from a retina specialist and could have been a problem without this. After talking with an attorney, I found out that he has caused many patients to go blind and there was really no recourse because of the paperwork he has you sign My eye will never be the same as I am still having trouble with it He is a TERRIBLE Dr and needs to retire read more

I called for an ophthalmologist appointment at the Odessa office. After scheduling the appointment, I realized they had more than one location, but I had not been asked which location I wanted my appointment so I called back & found out my appointment was for the independence office.. I had the appointment changed to the Odessa office. When I showed up for my appointment, the staff was very pleasant and helpful. I noticed the badge on my doctor said optometrist. I inquired when I would see the ophthalmologist and I was told I did not need to see the ophthalmologist & he would only see me when he was doing my surgery. . Since when do you not get to discuss with your doctor your options for treatment? read more

A simple follow up appointment for cataract post-op 1 week should not have taken 3 hrs. There is just too much waiting around.

I finally took the plunge a couple years ago and got Lasik Eye Surgery from Dr. Steve Silverstein. The entire process, starting with the initial consult and preparation for my procedure, to the months of follow-up afterwards, were filled with professionalism and courtesy. I firmly believe that you get what you pay for and I didn't pick Steve because he was the "low price leader" on this surgery. I wasn't going to coupon my way through an operation on one of my senses! And typing this review 2 years later without glasses, I"m still very grateful. Highly recommended. read more

I was in the office for my yearly exam to get a new prescription. They did not give it to me that day as they wanted to do cataract surgery and rushed me into someone who did financing. The surgery was going to be to costly at the time. The wait time was horrible as has been the last few times I was in. They are over booking and it is like an assembly line. There is no reason someone should be waiting 2 hours after their appointment time as our time is valuable too. I called and left several messages, never got a call back. Today I did not leave a message and stayed on the line to speak with someone. I was told because they are a specialist they run everything as specialty through your insurance. The charge for a prescription is $40.00 because under medical insurance it don't pay for the prescription so you must pay out of pocket for this. This use to be free with the eye exam. My co-pay was $75.00 and now $40.00 to get my prescription. I am not happy at all with how they do business now. They use to be great but they have fallen short several times lately. Will be looking for someone new to give my hard earned money to from here on. So I got them to send my prescription after paying $40.00. It was sent encrypted which made it extremely hard to open. The big kicker was it belonged to someone else. I called and told them about it and asked for them to just send it without being encrypted. She stated that because of HIPA she could not do that. I said but you just sent me someone else's personal information. She told me she didn't know how that happened. LOL!!! The place is a joke, I wouldn't trust them with surgery now for sure!!! read more

Not going to argue or question the quality of work or professionalism at Silverstein. My two-star rating comes strictly from all of the waiting around. Literally a lasik follow up is taking me two hours. They cram too many people in at one time, and simple appointments take much, MUCH longer than they should. Time is money, and you'll find yourself spending a lot of time waiting around at this place. Lasik procedure was great. 4.5 stars for the procedure and quality. But all around TWO STARS due to all the time I've wasted sitting around in in waiting rooms (pre eval, post eval). read more

I'm still trying to process what happened. Vision in my right eye was becoming weak plus I developed an eye floater in it. Had an appointment with Dr. Silverstein for an eye exam. The nurse said they want to give me the best Dr. for an eye floater and that was Dr. Stout. Found this to be a bit strange but ok. Dr. Stout did a brief exam and said my eyes were healthy; and nothing can be done for the floater except for surgery that they don't recommend that for healthy eyes. He said to schedule a follow up in about two weeks. Then he walked out of the room. Follow up for what if there's nothing he can do? There was no eye exam or recommendation for my weak vision or floater. I drive a school bus and can't pass the eye exam for the physical. The experience with Dr. Stout was bizarre; even the nurse who was there at the time of the exam looked confused. read more

I went in for a cornea transplant which has nearly a 100% success rate, In November 2018 I had my surgery, immediately afterwards I had severe eye pain and could see nothing. I went to the emergency room and was given a lot of morphine which barely helped. I followed up up with Dr. Silverstein 3 more times and was told that my eye pressure and pain was not concerning. I suffered in extreme pain for two weeks before I was able to get into KU eye clinic and they informed me that I needed emergency surgery for the eye pressure which was measured at more than 10 times normal (60). The procedure was an immediate success, however because the pressure was so great for an extended period of time I was left permanently blind in my left eye. Not to mention his horrible bed side manner and arrogance. Do not go to this son of a bitch! read more

I had Lasik surgery here and am very, very happy with the outcome. After 8 hours post surgical pain and discomfort, I woke up from my recovery nap able to see clearly and see everything. I was disappointed in the pre and post evaluations (reason for 4 stars). I had one other evaluation prior to coming here and that was very informative. That facility spent a lot of time discussing my different options and helping me with the pro's and con's of this procedure. I felt that I was very informed about my decision when I left this other facility. Silverstein was my second evaluation, after seeing a Groupon for their services. I did my research and felt that the Groupon cost was worth it and that Silverstein was a good place to go (not many reviews so that is why I am writing one). When I arrived for my initial evaluation, the "nurse" was pretty thorough in my exam. She gave me some information that I received at my other evaluation and answered some general questions. Then I saw Dr. K. He walked in, didn't introduce himself and seemed to be in hurry to get me in and out. He did not offer me a lot of information but looked at my eyes, asked me if I had any questions and that was it. Then I was sent to the surgical coordinator who discussed all the cost details and set up my appointment. She was VERY helpful in answering questions that I later thought of and gave me things to think about with my vision. In the weeks waiting for surgery I was very anxious and unsure if I really wanted to have my eyes worked on. The surgical coordinator was very helpful and reassuring, willing to take my calls and answer all my questions. The day of the surgery I arrived and waiting in Pre-op with 3 other people (with curtain dividers) and waited for my turn to go in. I was led into the surgical room where I was placed onto the surgical bed and the team got ready for my turn. Dr. Silverstein came in, was very nice and informed me about everything that would happen. He talked to me the entire time and was very calming and re-assuring. After surgery I had a quick follow up with Dr. K (that seems to be his thing - quick) and was discharged. Returned the following day for a very quick follow up with Dr. K and that again released. Three days later I am thrilled with my vision and thrilled with Dr. Silverstein's team. The procedure was much smoother than I could ever anticipate and the process is well oiled. How can they earn that 5th star? I would like Dr. K to spend more time with , patients, introduce himself when he walks into the room and make sure I am well informed of what I'm walking into. I also wish I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Silverstein before the surgery. That just seems odd to me to do a procedure on someone but never see them before or after the event. All in all I am thrilled that I went to Silverstein! I would happily recommend this place to anyone looking for Lasik and needing to budget their money. Was sent to DR. S. to make sure everything was ok. 15 yrs ago needed small print reading glasses only. But was told I had cater, glaucoma, $100.00 bottle of eye drops for yrs. test yr after yr. kept telling me both eyes needed surgery, of course the top line well above insurance would pay for. The one he had the FDA APROVE HIS SURGERY FOR IT ! FINALLY HAD RIGHT EYE DOWN, now I suffer everyday with pain and can not read and BARELY see out of that eye when for 15 yrs. never needed only glasses for (FINE PRINT ) Thank god I did not see him for the other eye because he had be set up for the following week to do surgery. People who are going threw this need to contact each other, I am not the only one ! Could enjoy life and see fine, now I suffer ever day for trusting the wrong doctor !WORST THING TO HAPPEN TO ME NEVER NEEDED THE SURGERY ! read more

My 59 year old spouse lost 85% of her central vision in her right eye after cataract surgery with Dr. Silverstein. Prior to the surgery, she had never worn glasses and had no issues but she was told that she needed surgery. We now seriously question if the surgery was even needed? She was then pressured to get premium lenses and forcefully told by the lady who scheduled the surgery, "You are legally blind and shouldn't be driving!" This was a lie, with her vision at 20/50. On the day of surgery my wife told the staff there was a problem with her eye. The day after her surgery at the follow-up appointment and then at the follow-up meeting six days after surgery, my wife told Dr. Lookhart, the Optometrist assigned to do follow-up examinations, that her vision was "Wonky" and that something wasn't right. She could see and pass the vision test but something was impeding her vision. He told her in each case that this was normal and would improve. I have since learned that this was anything but normal. They ran a test on depth perception and literally guided her hand to pass after 6 or 7 fails. On the evening one week after the surgery she noticed bands across her vision. She called on the next morning after losing more of her vision and was told to Immediately come to the office. She was tested and told that she had lost 85% of her vision in the eye and had suffered a "Ischemic Optic Neuropathy" and most likely the vision would not return. They referred her to a Neurologist and scheduled my wife for an appointment five days later. I said that was unacceptable and would serve as our own advocate. During this time, my wife was given two lectures as how they were not responsible for the vision loss as she was in tears. As we left, Dr. Lookhart said "Good Luck"! I was able to get into the same neurologist that day and she has been treated by him ever since. We were told that if she had been treated during the critical week, the outcome could have been substantially better! As a husband who comforts his spouse in tears 10 or 12 times a week, even now, after 8 months. I can tell you I sooooo wish we had turned to another group before surgery. She has forever been scarred by blindness and has quit driving at night because of this situation. We will forever question what could have been had she been treated by someone else. I personally should have guided my wife differently and suggested a second opinion on the surgery and insisted that a more qualified doctor review the fact that her vision was bad before the blindness occurred. We have since spoke with a lady whom kept her vision because she was treated in a timely manner. I would highly recommend going elsewhere or at least get a second opinion! read more

When I made my appointment, I asked if I needed a driver and was told that I would be able to drive myself home. I was unaware of what took place in a Comprehensive Eye Exam. It was not explained to me that it was a medical procedure, not just a basic eye exam to get a prescription. When I came for the exam, they dilated my eyes. I hadn't ever had them dilated before, and didn't know what to expect, and left without the Prescription. Then it was time to go home, and I was not offered sunglasses. I had to drive with one eye closed and was very concerned with not being able to see. When I called back to get the prescription, I was told it would be $60 to have the prescription written. My wife called back and explained the situation, and was told that they would waive the $60 fee. Fast forward a couple weeks, and I received a bill for the $60. I also got my glasses the same week only to find out that the prescription was WRONG. I had to go back America's Best to find out why. They had to redo my eye exam which cost me more time and another $50. read more

I had to wait longer than others for some reason for scheduling my lasik. I know this for a fact because a lady at the bank in Lee's Summit was having hers done. She called in July and received hers in July. I called in May and received my lasik Aug. 23rd. Would I do it over again even though for some reason I had to wait months and the other person 3 weeks? YES! It was fast and painless. They have you wait in a room with others and they take you one by one like cattle but it was efficient and wonderful. Not personable but the outcome was unbelievable! read more

I was evaluated by Dr. Kleinsasser for LASIK. Their free LASIK evaluation seemed to be extremely thorough, everyone was very nice, and I felt good about the result of the exam. They determined that while I was a candidate for the procedure, I was on the very, very outside edge of acceptable and the result could be less than optimal and and there were more risks to the surgery than benefits. Dr. Kleinsasser was very honest with me, answered all my questions, gave me some options, and even sent a letter back to my regular eye doctor for his files. I was reassured that that my eyes are healthy, I'm just extremely myopic. I'll go back in a few years, as suggested, and look at lens replacement, when my eyes are older and more ready for that type of procedure. read more

I was very disappointed with my visit this morning. Seeing all these amazing reviews; I thought I was going to see an amazing Dr. who would spend time with me, would listen to my concerns and take care of me. That is not what happen. His staff does all the work for him. The ladies that I spent time with before ever seeing Dr. Silverstein, they were fabolus. They listened to me and said the doctor would address my concerns. Well that never happen. That man was in and out like no ones business. It was like wam-bam-thank you ma'am type of service. Maybe that 's what most people are used to, but I am not. Working in health care myself, when a patient has concerns all of those should be addressed and not felt rushed like you are bothering the doctor. Time is money.....I will find a different doctor next year. I can not express my disappointment enough. read more

Dr. S.S. has done cataract surgery on both of my eyes in different years. He did the same surgery for my husband's eyes. No problems with any of that. I recently had occasion to go in because the vision in my left eye had become very blurry & I was concerned. Dr. S.S. told me that the vision had deteriorated faster in my left eye than it had in my right. Simple readers would no longer work for me.They wrote me a prescription for glasses. I had known for a while that they were charging $40 for an eyeglass pres. In my naivete I assumed that was for people who came in just for a pres. not for someone who came in with a medical issue. Dr. S.S. has always accepted medicare assignment (which apparently does not approve this $40 charge). Because it's not medicare approved my medicare supplement won't pay it either. I have now received 3 bills from Dr. S.S. I hadn't paid it yet because "he accepted Medicare assignment & I have excellent supplemental ins. coverage". I figured that these things had "passed" in the mail (so-to-speak) so I waited. This 3rd bill was a bit more insistent. After checking & being assured that the $40 is always charged when a script is written, regardless of the reason for the visit, I will now pay it. I am not happy with this rip-off charge. There are too many really good Ophthalmologists in the area for me to put up with being ripped off by a Dr, albeit a good one, who professes Christian values during every appt. I've ever had with him. I have never been comfortable with his cloying manner & his religious reverences are somewhat offensive. I am in KCMO, not San Francisco Calif. ?? read more

This place is clearly setup to make money. I had an 8:15 appointment. I arrived at 7:30 with all paperwork completed. It felt like being at the DMV. I got in to see the first assistant at 8:45. She did the cursory eye exam with an eye chart and asked all the medical history questions. Back to the waiting room. After about 30 minutes got in to see the OD to have the dye injected and have the eye imagery taken. This was done thoroughly and professionally. Back to the waiting room. After a while was moved to exam room. Waited there for a while. Another assistant came in took some information and said Dr. would be in shortly. Dr. rushed in made a canned well rehearsed speech looked at my imagery and started talking to his voice recorder. Speaking very rapidly a diagnosis was recorded in technical terms and he was out of there. This took about 3 to 4 minutes. No direct conversation with me, no real opportunity to ask questions. I was ushered out to the front desk. Here a receptionist tried to sell me a bottle of eye vitamins. Price $35.00 a bottle. Directions say you need to take 4 a day. Better AREDS 2 formula capsules that include Lutein can be purchased elsewhere for $25. Only need to take 2 a day to get the same percentages of vitamins and minerals. I was told to come back in 3 months. It have AMD which fortunately has not become wet. But to go through the same procedure every 3 months is overkill, and expensive. After about 4 hours I was on my way home. read more

I went to the Lees Summit location sat there for 2 hours after my APPOINTMENT time and still had not seen the doctor. I finally had to tell them I needed to leave because I had to be at work. Silverstein Eye Center provided me with incredible service today. I went in with extreme eye pain, and they were immediately helpful. I was assisted right away with numbing drops along with a cup of coffee after commenting on the little sleep I had gotten. The hospitality on top of quick and helpful service put me at ease and made me feel beyond welcome. I would recommend their services to anyone and everyone. Thank you Silverstein! read more

Actually I had a great experience at this location BUT they informed me at the desk that I would have to pay an extra $40.00 for an eyeglass prescription. In over 40 years of annual eye exams for vision have I ever been charged extra for a prescription. One cannot help but feel that is a rip off. I was told by the tech (who was quite excellent) when I inquired about what I had been told at the desk that, "Well, not everyone needs an eyeglass prescription and so it saves you money" That is just nonsense! I pay my copay and the insurance pays for the rest of my visit whether or not that includes an eyeglass prescription!!! They've already done the eye exam which tells them what I might need for a prescription. "Saving money" as an excuse is just a cover up of an extra charge that goes in their pockets and is not at all reasonable. I don't know how to describe it except to say that it is a rip off. I called several other chains of opthamology/optometry services just to check this practice and NONE of them charge extra for an eyeglass prescription. Even good service doesn't make up for cheating the customer. Sorry not to say it in a nicer fashion, but it is what it is. read more

Silverstein Eye Center: I went to this provider in Sept. to have my eyes checked for Diabetes and I had to come back on two more days to complete the tests each time this took 3 hours. Also asked to be fitted to glasses instead of the contacts I have had since 1963. The glasses came back and I could not see any better with or without the glasses. Went back to have eyes checked again. I told them that when the girl checked my eyes first asked what I could see, I could the letters but all were blurred and fuzzy. This time I had to be there another 3 hours. Then I was advised to leave my contacts out for three months and get another eye test. I have very bad eye sight and could not drive watch TV or go down steps without help, this was grossly incontinent for me. Silverstein said he would not charge me for the mistake or the eye exam again but he did anyway and the insurance was not pleased nor was I as I had to pay what the insurance did not. When I got my glasses I could see but it was not 20/20. It was 20/30 and 20/40. I will never got there again as my Wife got her eyes checked in 30 minutes and got good glasses at another provider. I hope that no one else has to go through the agony I did. read more
