Absolutely disgusting. Every inch of the motel was covered in dirt, grime and my personal favorite - the opened roll of toilet paper with someone's blood crusted on it!! We understand it's not a 5 star hotel but we've stayed in plenty of motels and this will now make us think twice. For $140 for a single night it could be much much better. Some dirty features: moldy sinks, holes in the carpet, brown stains on all the furniture, an array of hair on the bed, "stuff" splattered on the walls, and much more. This is a 50's stinky motel, with this experience comes a oz themed room with pee stains on the comforter and a bunch of garage sale junk stained furniture ! Daddy long leg spiders come no extra charge, along with a few residents across in other rooms that live here permanently. Fun for the whole family! Does actually have coffee in room. But honestly other than it being filthy it was a quiet place and outside it really is pretty nice. If you're weird though about random stains everywhere......everywhere, then this is not for you. No pool but probably for the best. They get three stars because I thought there would possibly be a shooting but ended up having a quieter night than expected!!!! Oh, TV doesn't work. read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED. I was looking for a motel within walking distance to downtown Wamego for the Oz Fest on Oct 4. Not sure if I called the Wamego inns and suites or the Simmer as they are sister motels. I called last minute but the reservationest was able to find me a king size bed at the Simmer Motel.I was estactic. The day before arrival I called to confirm even though I had a receipt with all the info. The hostess I called stated that I was confirmed for 10/4 and 10/5 even though my receipt said 10/3 and 10/4. However she was able to accommadate our dates . While on the phone I was looking at all the bad reviews on the Simmer Motel(How I missed these in the first place I don't know because I always check reviews). I told the hostess that if the room was as bad as the reviews then she did not want me to come. She got short and somewhat nasty and accused me of threatening her. My meaning was that if I came and the place was a pit that I would not stay and demand my deposit back. A waste of each others time. She then snottily said the place was clean. Well, Ok, the place was clean. They gave us the Oz room with painting of Oz themes on the walls. Pretty cool. The room seemed clean, but the carpet was heavily stained. The toilet had a water stain at the bottom like the room had set for along time and not been used. The inside rim was disgustingly rusty from hard water. (They need lessons from my wife as we live on a well with hard water, no softener and no stains).The window blind had 2 ends broken off so they used the tv station card to fill in the hole. I am not lying, I have pics. The fan in the bedroom was painted like the lollipop in Oz and had not been dusted for a long time. The vinyl in the bath was clean but very old. The exterior door on the inside had dirty fingerprints smudges that I could not remove with a toilet tissue. There were no paper towels or Kleenix provided. it's a shame that the owners don't put a little money in the motel as it could be a really nice place close to downtown. it was overpriced and will never stay there again. read more

This is a mouse infested trap! I told the manager about the problem and was given a mop! I left and only received a small portion of my money refunded. Also, I was later told that the exterminator said there was no infestation. I provided photos to management of the dropping and no comment any more. Pay more across the street or elsewhere, your health depends on it. read more

Booked this in April for Oztoberfest..where to start.. 1. It was a two hour drive so grand daughter had to use the rest room, toilet paper roll was on the roller but it was completely out...and no spare in the room. 2. Room walls were bare, no decorations at all. 3. Went to get in bed and there was no top sheet and the comforter had disgusting stains. Had to use the blanket we brought with us to sleep under. Icky! 4. Shower was dirty, no toiletries at all. Luckily grandma brings her own in case. 5. Shower had no liner. Curtain was missing rollers and was on backwards. 5. No coffee maker like advertised. We were supposed to stay 2 nights.. checked out next morning. Bottom line would never recommend to anyone or stay here again. read more

This hotel is discusting at least room 107 was disgusting The bathroom was dirty..they provided 1 bathtowel and 1 hand towel for 2 people..no soap. The drain is rusted the showerhead was rusted The carpet was dirty AND stained. The springs on the couch..we'll you nearly hit the floor..the stool was exceptionally low! The room smelled of cigarette smoke..to the point I couldn't eat my supper! We had to go out and eat. The bed was terrible... Eventhough they put a mat on it. The paint is peeling off the bed frame and dresser. The dresser looked like something right out of the landfill. The microwave was dirty. There is about a 1-2" gap on the door to the floor..mice or snakes could EASILY come in!!! All this " LOVELY ROOM " $108.00 128.00 with tax..what a RIP OFF!! I love going to the Simmer. It is a mom and pop motel that deserves more credit than given. It is off highway 24 and a quiet place to stay. You can BBQ outside while your kids are playing at the play ground, or take a relaxing dip in the jacuzzi tub RM 138. There are different sections of rooms from 1 bed - 5. Many of the rooms are theme rooms. I asked to see some and there is a wizard of oz room, a car room, a fish room, a country room, a movie room, an old gas station room etc etc. very cute! The owner loves antiques so there all over! If you're not into the "theme" stuff, they have a new section that is more modernized. Their rates are awesome! If I remember correctly, for my boyfried, myself, my toddler and my dogs to stay in a 1 bed was around 45 dollars. Was totally worth it! I love the fact that they're pet friendly!!!! My room was very clean. Cleaner than my own house at times lol! Beds were soft and comfy, everything in the room worked great, and it was nice to be able to BBQ with the owners outside while listening to everyone enjoying themselves at the pool. It can look a bit intimidating coming up because it isn't a totally modernized motel but don't let it fool you! The office is decorated with antiques and really cool mounts that the owners husband has done. This is just a sweet little place to relax and enjoy yourself at. They even have a honey moon suite. If you're in Wamego, take the time to check out the Simmer, I doubt you'll be disappointed and if you are...well I guess you can't please them all! I don't understand how this motel is so highly rated. This is a dump that is more like a rundown apartment complex. We stayed for 30 minutes and checked out. Didn't get a refund of course but figured I wouldn't. Definitely not the place to take my 12 year old daughter. Green pool, damp smelly room, shady lookin characters all over the place. Do yourself a favor and go across the street. Better yet don't even go to Wamego. We stopped because it was our 1/2 way point to Colorado and wanted to go to the Oz museum. read more

Pay attention to the most recent ratings! Maybe this place was 4-5 stars a few years ago but now it's a fraudulent, off-site managed business. I fell for the website that advertised renovated, unique, retro-restored rooms and basic amenities. Here's what I got: 1) a room straight out of the late 70s/early 80s without renovation i.e. worn wicker furniture, a barely functioning dorm fridge, no reading lamps by chairs, mushy beds, dingy sheets, flies in the room, loose outlets that my plug-ins fell out...nothing like the pictures on the website! 2) no bath soap, no wash cloths, no coffee maker in room (as advertised on website) 3) no human interaction...everything done by texting, the hotel lobby/office was locked with posted phone nos. to contact for questions and emergencies 4) delayed and unacceptable responses(texting of course) to the issues in #2... "we don't supply those items...sorry" 5) confusing and repetitive instructions due to texts from 2 different phone numbers 6) no wifi information in room or pre-arrival texts...when one of the phone nos. was called to find out, a person with an accent answered and they didn't know off-hand the answer but had to look it up 7) a cold, detached, isolating motel experience with zero face-to-face human interaction or connection. The things that worked otherwise...a/c, shower, toilet, sink and the room was clean...the only reasons I decided to stay since I wasn't spending a lot of time in the room during my 2 night lodging. read more

Neat little place. We booked a week before, and when we arrived they still had someone in our room. Their fix was to give us the suite, which was pretty nice of them to do. We watched tv from the couch sitting on the yellow brick road, and spent some time in Auntie Em's kitchen. There is an elite group of people that may know what I mean. :-) Anyways, it was super quiet. We got rested and back on the road in good shape thanks to the folks at the Simmer Motel. read more

My husband and family have stayed here every year. I was worried that this was going to be a dive when my husband took me the first time. Was I wrong, this is the cutest place I found it clean, comfortable, and warmly inviting. The owners care and it shows in the way they take care of the guests all the way to the way they keep their home. Any time you are in Wamego it is the best place to stay. I work for another hotel company but only stay at Simmer Motel. I watch every penny and know that if I stayed at one of the hotels I sell would save me money but I will NEVER give up the joy I get from staying at Simmer Motel. read more

I love this place! The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, the owners are very kind and sweet, the staff are friendly, accommodating, and helpful, and they are kid and pet friendly. They have everything from one bed rooms to suites complete with dishes. Plus they have non - smoking rooms- a bonus for my mom who has asthma and my dad who gets migraines from cigarette smoke. Don't let the outside fool you, this place is the BEST place to stay in town! :) read more

Locally owned motel with a homey touch and nice sized rooms. Certainly not top of the line but good rates and accommodations. Excellent service, kid friendly and kitchenette but no stove. Have Foreman style cookers for loan and microwaves/refrigerators/freezers. read more
