This is a nice little practice in Westport, and I was looking forward going. It's not because I love root canals, which require an endodontist, but it was just a check up and I like to visit the area. The assistant was friendly as I entered the office. She got me situated in one of the rooms where I was waiting for the doctor. I listened to the smooth Jazz music, and admired the pictures and posters that where displayed all over the room(s). The doctor came after a short while, and really got me of guard. I don't know why, but I found him unfriendly, rude and nothing of what I expected. I really hoped my first encounter with him to be completely different. The assistant asked me if I wanted to make an appointment after my 1 minute conversation, but I wasn't in the mood at all to come back to this place. I left the office and said "Goodbye" which was only returned by the assistant, the doctor simply ignored me as he was playing on his Blueberry phone. I can't say anything about his work as a professional endodontist, he might be a darn good one, but I left the building feeling like something was wrong with me... and it was not my tooth. read more

He failed to remove all the infection from my root canal, which was verified by a dentist and 2 endodontists following the procedure. I was referred by my dentist to the practice where this guy works for a root canal consult. Had a pleasant experience with every employee at the practice until this absolute garbage bag of a human walked into the room. I've met some unprofessional health care providers before, but comparing this guy's demeanor to theirs would be insulting to them. I don't care if a provider doesn't want to make small talk or has a bad day- things happen. But this guy actually rolled his eyes at me (straight out of the teenage girl meltdown playbook) for asking questions about a dental procedure I was unfamiliar with, then acted like I was wasting his time with my questions and argued AT me to the point where I reminded him that he was the damn dentist in the room. Dr. Dumpster Fire proceeded to tell me it was my own fault for the condition of the tooth (I acknowledge and take full responsibility for this) and kept sighing dramatically when I didn't give him a specific reason why I waited to get my tooth checked. Gave him the short answer (dental anxiety) with specifics, but shockingly, this answer displeased him! His response was a snarky tone while asking if I had a previous negative dental experience, then I had to explain to him what anxiety is because apparently his schooling hadn't covered that and/ or he didn't take 30 seconds to look at my medical history. Seriously, you work at a place that offers sedation dentistry- read a pamphlet or something at the bare minimum. At this point, his hygienist (super nice girl) stepped in and told me about another provider at the practice she'd recommend for sedation dentistry. Dr. Dumpster Fire huffed his way out of the room (the whole 2 minutes he was in there must have been super rough on him) and did nothing for my infected tooth. I told the girls at the front desk about the experience and they were really nice and apologetic when it wasn't their fault at all. TL; DR- if he was the only dentist on earth, I'd take my chances to remove my own goddamn tooth using blunt, rusty tools before I'd go back to see him. read more

Dr. Simon has to be the worst dentist I've ever encountered. He was rude, arrogant, unprofessional and treated us like we were stupid. He never looked in my mouth until he attempted to leave and I asked him additional questions. He was called out twice on his lack of patience and attitude and ended up just leaving the consult room suggesting we make an appointment for a root canal if we wanted to! Dr Simon was very professional and explained what would be done because he knew I was afraid of the chair. He made me feel very comfortable and I have to say the fear subsided. I didn't feel any pain and he checked on me after to make sure I was ok. read more

I used Dr. Simon for all my root canals. I've had 5 so far and will be going back ASAP for 4+ more. He completed 5 in less than 3 hours!!!! No pain, no problems and no corrections needed. I scheduled an appointment with this "specialist" to do a root canal. What a joke. This guy is extremely arrogant and rude. I sat down in the chair and he wanted to talk about his hedge fund investments and his 14% annual return. He gave me some novacaine and started drilling when his tool broke and he started yelling at his female assistant (who was very kind and sweet). "Dr" Simon then used another tool to drill the hole but then complained that I was not opening my mouth wide enough for him to operate. He then patched up the hole he drilled (without telling me his plan) and then told me he didn't have enough time to do the procedure. He then billed me $620 for doing nothing. I just called my insurance company and told them to dispute the bill. Do yourself a huge favor and go elsewhere. This guy is horrible. read more

Very rude and arrogant dentist. Did a root canal on both my son and myself. We both still to this day have infections and Dr Simon refuses to see either of us. Told me that he did our root canals correctly and to go back to our referring dentist. The reffering dentist had to refer us to another Endo which will take another 21 days to be approved by our insurance :( Also, his chairside manner is just terrible. Worst experience ever. Rude, arrogant, cocky, condescending. Treated me like a piece of garbage. Was angry when he saw my broken tooth. Said "this isn't gonna fly". Seven Novocain needles later for my root canal, I felt every ounce of that drill. I stopped the procedure. He was so angry that he dropped his tools. This guy is the worst of the worst. Not only is he unbelievably unprofessional, rude, and hostile; he also diagnoses problems where they don't exist. (He recommended I get a root canal that I actually didn't need without ever even looking in my mouth.) He also routinely insists on retaking X-rays when current ones are available from another practitioner. When I objected to the unnecessary radiation exposure - not to mention cost - his receptionist said she thought I would be more comfortable with another dentist and hung up on me. Time for another root canal. I'm Husky, and don't want to wait for state approval (weeks...for a root canal...) so was looking for a good endo who might take a cash discount. I noticed Dr. Simon has some seriously negative reviews. He's an hour away from me now, so I'm going to someone closer, or I'd go back to him. He did a root canal on me 7 years ago before relocating his office. Seven years later his root canal is still holding. ! also saw he's on the Husky dental provider list. I was not Husky at that time, but I wasn't exactly cash flush. I don't recall him being chatty, but I didn't really care as I was there for a root canal not a beer. I was more interested in his skill than his conversational inclinations, but I definitely don't recall him being rude, as some of the reviews allege. I don't even know what tooth he did, but it's not the one that needs a root canal now. Sometimes bad reviews don't give the whole story - lots of people are real jerks, and if things don't go perfectly, or according to how they feel they should go, it's 1 star. Dr. Simon takes Husky. If you've never been on Husky, you might not realize what that reveals about him. Taking Husky patients, surely, is more trouble than it's worth for the dentist, which is why Husky MDs of any kind, especially in the Danbury, CT, area are so hard to find. I was feeling the pain. Dismissed me out of his office without completing the procedure. Let me start by saying that the procedure itself was fine and my husband has not had any issues since. However, this doctor was flat out rude, had no empathy or patience, and seemed to be annoyed by our presence. Unfriendly does not even begin to describe his personality. My husband had a badly infected tooth that needed emergency root canal. Do NOT see this dentist. He is rude and condescending. I have complained to my dentist about him when they tried to refer me for a second time and they told me that every patient complains about him and that unfortunately there's nothing they can do. I had a root canal 3 months ago and the entire time he was telling his assistant that if he finds out who parked in his parking space that she better hold him back because he's going to punch them in the face and mother effed this ghost man the entire time while doing the root canal. I've had root canals from three different endodontists in my 56 years. This was without question the best experience. Dr Harvey was efficient with every move and completed the procedure quickly and with the ease of a skilled doctor. I read a few other reviews before I went to the consultation. Several rated him excellently but a few complained about his bed-side manner. My only suggestion to the writer's of the negative comments is...if you need your hand held....call your mommy. I underwent my first root canal at the hands of Dr. Simon and I could not be happier about my experience. As one could imagine I was nervous about the ensuing pain and dreading the drill. Dr. Simon paid careful attention that I was comfortable throughout the entire process. The one moment where I felt the slightest pain he stopped immediately and gave me more Novocaine. I heard good things about Harvey Simon's skill as an endodontist, but in my experience his positive attributes stopped there My questions about my condition and treatment needed were vaguely answered. From my x-ray he said my tooth could not have a root canal, it needed an extraction and I had to go somewhere else. I was ready to acquiesce to his professional opinion but I did mention that my dentist had said the tooth could be saved. He said ok, Ill take a look, then after he actually looked at the tooth and the x-rays more closely he said it may be able to be saved, but he would have to drill to know for sure. I was given 3 shots of lidocaine several minutes apart as the numbing effect was not taking place. I have never had that happen before and after the 3rd shot did not have the desired effect Harvey Simon stated "I can't help you" I said "OK, what should I do next?" His response - "go somewhere else". Thanks bud. If that's what I need to do, that's fine but I don't need to be treated like an incompetent degenerate because I am looking for help with a situation I know nothing about. From other reviews I have read, the "go somewhere else" response seems to be this mans modus operandi. Get you in, do enough to bill for consultation, make a few snide remarks and send you packing before any real work is done. Oh yeah, Gregory D. I'm a 60 year young man in excellent health and never had a Root Canal before. I read the same reviews your reading now. If you think your visiting your family dentist who wants to see you two times a year, year after year, and who has the warm and fuzzy to go along with, Dr. Simon aint him. No warm and fuzzy here. If not cozying up to patients or giving short answers are perceived as rude keep reading and I'll help with your perception. Chances are that as Dr. Simon's patient you will be a one procedure deal and hopefully you won't have to see him again. He knows that. The procedure most likely will be one that you dread and would love to know will be performed exceptionally well. Here's the important stuff. He wastes no time in small talk. He is direct, very and takes the lead as he should. If you can get past the point where he didn't discuss the weather with you, you'll find he is very confident and very focused. Almost arrogant, but nothing you can put your finger on, just his way. The relationship with his nurse is a marriage of two people working perfectly in unison. Here's where it gets even better. Dr. Simon has a great hand. Steady with the right amount of firm. You feel the confidence and feel confident. He explains everything in an understated monotone. You will discover he has a heart when he asks you if you feel any pain. He really does care. Everything about him says trust. I've lived in many places and have had dental work from great to not so great. Dentists have tried to sell me unnecessary crowns and braces. There's none of that there. Dr. Simon aka Dr. Congeniality is an excellent Endodontic Dentist period. I hope I never have to see him again too, cause no matter how you slice it Root Canals are no fun. read more

Apparently this doctor also practices in Clifton Park, NY, for whatever reason. In any case, I needed a root canal and went to a practice in Clifton Park and was given an appt. with Dr. Simon. During my consult, he was barely in and out of the room and I certainly didn't get the warm fuzzies from him. He diagnosed me with an abscess, but didn't prescribe any antibiotics, which at the time I didn't know was common (it may not be necessary to prescribe an antibiotic with every abscess, but he didn't discuss anything with me). Anyway, I went back a week later, they got me all numbed up, and I was told that Dr. Simon doesn't like to use bite blocks as they get in the way. I was worried about this since I find it hard to keep my jaw open for long procedures and find bite blocks to be a godsend. My mouth is also small. Once the Novocain kicked in, Dr. Simon was unable to get the rubber dam placed in my mouth and he said I wasn't opening wide enough. After several tries, he pushes back his chair and takes his mask off and shrugs. I said, "well?" and his response was he couldn't do the procedure because I am unable to open my mouth wide enough and long enough. He was not compassionate and offered no alternatives and pretty much said nothing else. I felt embarrassed and humiliated. The assistant proceeded to take off my bib and handed me my purse. I went out to the waiting area to grab my coat and Dr. Simon passed me and didn't say a word. I was angry, frustrated and on the verge of tears wondering if I would be a problem patient due to my small mouth and inability to keep my mouth open for an extended period of time and worrying about how on earth I was going to get a root canal done. Fortunately, I later got the name of another endodontist and the difference between the two doctors was night and day. I do not recommend Dr. Simon. He may do good work, but I wouldn't know. Unless you have a large mouth and do not tire from keeping it open for a long time, do not go to him. I have been meaning to write a review on Dr. Simon for a very long time now. I was very nervous so right before my first appointment I went online to try to find some reviews on him and couldn't find a single one. It's been years since my first root canal and I need to go back because my dentist found a few more that need to be done. So I went online again to see if anyone had written any reviews on him. When I seen the handful of negative reviews it motivated me to write this review right now. When I had my first root canal the dental insurance I have limited me to only Dr. Simon to choose for my root canal. Now over a year later my insurance has added one more provider who happens to be 15 minutes from me. Please note that Dr. Simon is an hour drive for me. I am very pleased with his work that I am willing to drive 45 minutes out of my way. I am shocked to hear that people find him rude and arrogant. I can't see how anyone can mistake his dry slapstick sarcastic sense of humor mildly rude unless of course you are some frigid stuck up narcissist with two bags of chips on your shoulders and quite possibly thinking the world owes you something because you need a root canal. I was born and lived in West Hartford for 20 years- I've come across a few of you people so I can spot one a mile away! I personally can't live without sarcasm and do not take offense to any jokes Dr. Simon has sent my way to lighten the mood. After 9 root canals I have heard a lot of jokes and funny wisecracks. He jokes the same with me as he does his assistant, who is wonderful, and even his son who came in for a minute. I have never felt stupid in his office- but then again I am one of those smart information seekers who goes out and does a little research on the problem in my mouth before heading to the dentist; perhaps maybe the people who feel stupid rightly should. No one can make you feel stupid without your consent. I don't know what you people are expecting when you go to get a root canal but it sounds like maybe you were hoping for some game playing, a pity party and maybe even a piñata. At any rate he's there to do work, he doesn't play games; he does root canals painlessly, quickly and efficiently. What more could you want? To the person who felt offended when he turned his back after you declined his services and pretty much wasted his time I ask you this: what did you want him to do when you didn't want him to re-do your root canal that some hacker dentist did in the first place; get on his hands and knees and beg you? I also think it's great that he has pictures of himself and the things he does outside of pulling infected roots out of some clearly ungrateful patients. It shows that he has a family, friends and people who find him funny and enjoy his company. I also noticed a review from someone who stated he called them a *****. I'm pretty sure I can fill in those blanks because when my husband first went to him he was acting like a baby and Dr. Simon made him chuckle when he threw the ***** word at him. But like I said above my husband knows he's not a ***** and thought it was extremely funny that a dentist was joking with him and called it as he saw it. My husband will be the first to tell you he was acting like a ***** and Dr. Simon is so quick and easy that looking back it's nothing to be afraid of. My husband has had 3 root canals from him and is also choosing to go back for 2 more. I am sure that I was his most fearful patient. I also have an anxiety disorder and high blood pressure. If I am willing to drive 45 minutes out of my way to Dr. Simon what does that tell you? No, I do not work for the man, no I am not a member of his family and no he is not paying me with cash, free dental work or candy, soda and ice cream.
