The good: Dr. Choyee seems very knowledgeable about what he does. The good: Dr. Choyee follows up with you and gives you a call at the night after the surgery. He makes sure that he can answer your questions if you have any. The good: They give you a manual/instructions about after care just in case you were too sleepy from the anesthesia to hear what the assistant tells you to do about after care and what not to eat when your gums are healing. The bad: If he puts you to sleep during the surgery, you are likely to be very sleepy when you barely wake up. They will hurry you out and tell you to call whoever came with you as soon as you wake up, and rush you out of the office. The bad: They plant undissolvable stitches into your gums during the surgery. They just told me to go back a week later right smack in the middle of the day. They didn't even give me a chance to request to change the time. If I was scheduled on the early morning or around 4:30 pm, at least I can work half a day instead of having to take the whole day off. The bad: When I went to remove the stitches, it was the assistant that removed it. She took out one and called it a day. I touched the gums with my tongue and felt 2 more. She really found 2 more. Make sure you ask the assistant to read your chart and ask how many non-dissolvable stitches the doctor planted in your mouth. I felt like I had to teach her how to do her job. The bad: Dr. Choyee was standing right outside the door listening to the whole conversation when the assistant was removing my stitches, but did not offer to see my mouth to give a final check if everything is alright. I asked the assistant "is the hole a lot smaller now and healing well?" She said yes. When Choyee hears that I am completely fine, he says hi and take care. (Probably he was trying to create a good impression) Other than that, if the operation and procedure is all that you care about, you can trust Choyee. read more

I needed a rear molar removed due to a failed root canal. FYI..m one who dislikes the drill or anything to do with pain at the dentist. I was directed to see Dr Choyee so he could surgically remove my bad tooth. The office is on Whittier Bl, and kind of a hidden gem. Ive driven by it for years and didnt realize it was there. His office is on the second floor of the building that initially appeared a little dated. Upon entering his office i saw it was extremely clean and modern. I was greeted by one of the nurses, and after filling out the paperwork, led to one of the rooms. I have to say, the office and adjoining rooms were awesome. Very nice! And immediately eased my first concern at any dental office, which is CLEANLINESS!.. one of the dental techs, i think his name was Daniel, explained what to generally expect. Of course all i kept asking was how much pain would i feel. He advised id have a Twilight procedure, in which id be sedated. I 've never had this type, so i kind of tensed up, imagining my heart stopping, or an object dropping into my gullet during the procedure. I'm getting long winded, so i'll get to the main point. I immediately noticed that Dr Choyee, is fairly young... however he explained in detail what he had to do, and ensured it would be a successful operation. Needless to say, i was put under and upon awaking felt like i had taked a snooze on a beach in Maui :).. it was a good snooze if i dont say so myself . My operation was over, i didnt feel any pain whatsoever. My wife drove me home, and i conked out for a few more hours. I have to admit, after seeing a typical dentist, i normally leave with my jaw sore and neck muscles tense from trying to push away from the drill. However, as im typing this, its 6 a.m. the following morning, and im feeling great! Minor swelling on the extraction site, no pain or bleeding.. so in a nutshell, i highly recommend Dr Choyee, if you are in search of an oral surgeon. So wish that Dr. Choyee's Office was as responsive and friendly as others have suggested, but that is not my experience. I was given a referral to Dr. Choyee to consider the extraction of a wisdom tooth under IV sedation. Unfortunately, when I called, I only connected with the Dr. Choyee's answering service. Thinking this may have been my error because I called outside normal business hours, I asked when the office was open. Told that business hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., I pointed out that it was not yet 5 o'clock and was told they'd simply closed early. While Dr. Choyee may have a stellar reputation for caring for his patients, this episode does not instill confidence that this is a professionally run office interested in attracting new patients. I will be seeking another reference from my primary dentist and, lacking that, will seek alternatives on my own. If you are considering Dr. Choyee, I wish you a better experience than mine. read more

THESE PEOPLE ARE LAZY SCAM ARTISTS! I honestly regret coming here. BEWARE they will try to convince you to get surgery done the same day without checking if your insurance covers it. The front desk is lazy!!! They gave me an estimate of what my insurance would cover ( I have PPO) and they had the audacity to tell me that the request was denied a week after the procedure was done and that I was now responsible for the full amount. I contacted them and they said it was denied because of my age but it turns out they never pre-authorized or sent any requests to my insurance. I called Delta Dental and they said they did not have any requests on the day of or before the surgery. The insurance guy gave me the codes and he told me that I should file a grievance claim against them. All of this could've been avoided had they done their job and checked with insurance for approval before telling me that insurance would cover their half. This should be illegal!! read more

I want to start out by saying that I had asked about scheduling surgery to have my wisdom teeth extracted as I had been to two other dentists already that both gave me a referral and took ct scan and X-rays of my teeth. I was told I couldn't do anything over the phone that I had to have a consult so they could do their own exam and X-rays. I waited a week for this appointment. It was scheduled with Dr.Choyee for today at 3:30pm and I waited for 40mins to be seen. Wheni get to the exam room Dr.Choyee has my X-ray printed out on a 8x10 sheet of paper from the email I sent them from my previous dentist visit. He comes in and spends less than 5 mins with me no X-rays or exam done. Explains pre-op for the surgery then proceeds to tell me that his receptionist will be in to discuss the payment and to schedule my surgery. The receptionist comes in and shows me the break down of the cost. They charged me/my insurance $100 for my 5 min consultation. And an additional $2200 to extract my two wisdom teeth. The doctor recommended sedation to remove my teeth with no real explanation why. These people just want your money. Beware. Right after my visit I called dentist's of Whittier (3 buildings down) and got my wisdom teeth taken out without sedation about 5 hours ago for $750. This place gets one star because there's facility looked clean and they weren't rude. But there is no concern or empathy for the patient. Felt like i was nothing more than a dollar sign to these folks. read more

Really upset about the billing, my FICO dropped last month so I got my credit report - well the issue comes from my dental visit at Dr. Choyee's office - dental work was fine. But I paid my bill according to the amount instructed by Dr. Office in Aug 2019 trusting the Dr. Office would then settle correctly with the insurance company - as all medical offices do - well the insurance company 2 months later in Oct 2019 said $100 was not covered by the insurance company. I had moved in Sep 2019, got no message on my phone from the Dr. Office about $100 owed - no voice message, no text message. So the Dr. Office reported me to a collection agency in Dec 2020 - 1 year later. Now my FICO score dropped from over 800 which I've had for years to just above 700. The issue should have been between Dr. Choyee's office and the insurance company - not me since I paid what I was told to pay in Aug 2019. Just called Dr. Choyee's office and paid the $100 immediately. But requested an email concerning the invoice and payment history so I can take this up with the credit agency - no email with this information has been received by me yet. My son had been suffering with pain from a filling that came out awhile back but didn't mention it me until it was almost unbearable and occurring on a daily basis. We were referred to Dr Choyee by our dentist for an extraction of his upper molar. Upon reading all the reviews, I felt like we were in great hands. We arrived just as the staff was coming back from lunch and they greeted us on time. As in the previous reviews, the office is modern and clean. Dr Choyee is young and looks like a movie star. He offered his recommendations and answered all my questions as did Anna with the financials. My son had the IV sedation which he said felt like a 10 second procedure and before he knew it, it was over. Pain free! He couldn't believe it (and kept talking about it all the way home)! Jessica advised us that all went well and that it was a clean extraction with little bleeding. She was great and answered all my post op questions.The entire staff was amazing both pre and post op. I'd been suffering for more than a week. I had been to two different dentists. The first dentist hurt me so bad I had two anxiety attacks and after he hit my nerve 3 times while trying to numb the gums, I said "no more. I can't take anymore" He then said instead of a root canal I needed to have it extracted. He sent me to a dentist that turned out to be an indodontist who only does root canals. He told me he doesn't put people to sleep and never has, so he referred me to an oral surgeon Dr. Choyee in Whittier. He promised me I wouldn't feel any pain and I didn't. It was a piece of cake. He gave me something that took away the pain but left me awake and aware of everything. He was very kind and caring as were his entire staff. I'll be going back for more dental work. This is a long overdue review. My son got all 4 wisdom teeth removed back in November. The staff at Dr. Choyee's was very friendly and professional. The office was very clean. Dr. Choyee took his time and explained the entire procedure and made sure we were comfortable with proceeding with the procedure. The day of the procedure my son was done in 45 minutes. No swelling, no bruising and he was able to eat Thanksgiving dinner a couple of days later. Dr. Choyee followed up with a phone call to make sure he was recovering well. I went to Dr. Choyee to have a procedure done. The office manager Ana, told me my Dental Insurance may not cover it. I asked her what about billing, my medical insurance ? She said we could try, and she took my medical card, and left the room, then brought it back to me. 3 months later I get a bill, and I find out that my medical insurance was never billed. I called and asked to speak to Ana, she claims what I said did not happen, because she does not have a copy. I explained, why would I make up this story ? She was adamant that it did not happen. I would not go to Dr.Choyee, as you may end up with a surprise bill, because of the office manager Ana being careless. Ana was very unprofessional, and based on my interaction with her, I would got to a different practice. read more

The daunting thought of pulling out my wisdom teeth had to one day become reality when the pain was becoming too unbearable. I made a trip to Dr. Choyee's office to have my x-rays taken and it was time. But, for some reason, it didn't seem as scary as I thought! Dr. Choyee explained the process to me in elementary terms so there were no misunderstandings and most of all, the procedure was quick and painless! All four (one was partial, three were impacted) teeth were extracted in less than 20 min. The staff was incredibly sweet and made sure I was okay every step of the way. I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed from Dr. Choyee. I knew I had to get them removed years back, but tried to delay it as long as possible, which resulted in my tooth getting impacted and causing me a lot of pain. All four of my wisdom teeth were very deep making the procedure more difficult than usual, but Dr. Choyee had no issues. I was put under and when I woke up, it felt like 10 minutes had gone by. I was still loopy, but when I got home I didn't feel much pain. I also did not swell very much and my recovery time was surprisingly very short. My experience was so good and I really believe Dr. Choyee 1. knows what he's doing 2. does it extremely well. I was referred to Dr.Choyee for oral surgery to get my wisdom teeth removed after they started causing me extreme pain. His staff were so attentive and squeezed me in the next morning for extraction. I was super nervous and thought I would have to take at least two days off work. I wish I could give Dr. Choyee and his staff more than 5 stars! I didn't feel anything at all, everyone was so attentive, the team really worked well and efficiently together, and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. Everything was explained before hand, including my out of pocket cost. I literally have no swelling at all! I'm so amazed! I was literally up and about like nothing the next day and only taking ibuprofen for the slight pain. Dr. Choyee also made sure to call me later in the day to see how I was doing.
