The place was surrounded by sketchy looking people in the parking lot and the sidewalk. As soon as I pulled in they all stared me down. When I got out of my car to go in a few of these people postured like they wanted to jump me. Ordered my food to go. Food was ok. Cheap! But unfortunately due to the sketchy people loitering around i dont think ill come back to this place. Absolutely doesnt feel safe. Yes, you will smell like hot dog and onions the rest of the day!! My coworkers have been raving about Simone's for years. Now that in-person meetings are happening once more at work (thanks COVID). I had business in Lewiston and they insisted after our meeting we get "red snappers" at Simones'. You smell that oniony-magic the minute you come around the corner and see the little red hot dog stand. We hit the lunch rush and found a table for 6 in the back. This is a tiny, funky, crowded, dine in sit down kinda place. The vibe is bustling, you can tell the locals love it, they banter with the staff, the staff joke and razz each other. The news is on, the dogs are cooked right there before your eyes. Grilled or steamed they come naked, loaded with chili, cheese, you name it. People are very particular when they order their dogs. "Mustard and Onion on the bottom" I heard one guy say. The red snapper is a Maine staple. The snap when you take that first bite, the pillowy steamy Country Kitchen buns. OMG. Your mouth with love you. The dogs are the stars for sure. We also got a side of onion rings and fries for the table. There were six of us and we couldn't finish them off! Onion rings are the perfect balance of batter to onion, golden crunchy on the outside the onion perfectly cooked on the inside. The fries were super crispy and I could have made a meal of those alone. First timers HAVE to sign the guest book! (The owner will come and ask who has never been - there were 2 newbies in my group, one was me). Nearly every table was full and the counter top as well but the food came out fast, piping hot, and was served with a smile. Grab your own drinks and pay at the register on the way out. The dessert menu looked decent too. We shared the banana cake which was banana bread with frosting. It tasted like grandmas. Moist, cold, I wish I had a glass of milk to wash it down. If you find yourself in Lewiston, it's totally worth the experience to get a red snapper from Simones. I can't believe it took me this long to get there! read more

This delightful little spot is a busy place with non stop business from patrons at the bar to phone orders to walk In orders. Despite all going on I never felt rushed. The service was incredible. Everyone there was smiling and enjoyed being there. This isn't a typical sit down restaurant. Come in grab your drink either from the fountain or the cooler and grab a seat. Someone will take your order and drop your food off. When you are done (or decide you may also need more to take home) you pay at the register. Wednesday are $1 steamed hot dogs and all hot dogs are those delicious Maine red snappers. They served em up topped how you want even with grilled onions. Celery salt is on the table. I've lived in this area my whole life and everyone knows, with good reason, that Simones' has the best hot dogs you can get in our state. I'd forgotten one thing though, how great the house special is. A delicious bowl's worth of chili poured over two of their great hot dogs and buns in (my case) a to-go container filled almost to the top. By the time you eat it the sauce from the chili has soaked into the bun giving you a delicious wrap around once you find it and the hot dogs. It's the world's most delicious form of Where's Waldo and for under $8 a great deal to bring home for a meal with a good amount of leftovers. Marc C. couldn't be more right when he says that customers quickly become friends. The Simones and staff couldn't be friendlier and always make you feel at home. The walls are lined with photos of Maine and national politicians that have visited over the years and it is THE place to go to talk politics in Lewiston. I recommend the Maine steamed red hotdogs (but they have grilled beef dogs if you aren't brave enough to give them a shot), the chili cheese dogs (house special), or the tuna melt. Simones' has become a requisite campaign stop for the state and nation's most prominent politicians when visiting Lewiston. We visited Simones' for the first time and were quite happy! We didn't want to stop at the rest area on 95 while traveling, so Yelp led me to Simones'. They have a few tables on the sidewalk which was great since we had out dog with us. The staff is both friendly & kind offering us a bowl of water for the dog. The food is freshly prepared with each order and very tasty. One son got a hot dog and the other got a cheesesteak--both were pleased. We got their chef salad with grilled chicken. It was very tasty and filling--so much better than the rest stop would have been! Bonus--right across the street is a public park so the dog got a nice walk before getting back on the road.
