So excited when I read they were open again for the season! I wish I had my family with me today to enjoy this, but I'm riding solo this trip. I just ordered a single hot dog baskets the fries are so good! Hand it with skins. Perfectly crisp, with a big cup of ketchup on the side. Cole slaw is delicious! I'm not much of a cole slaw person, so that says a lot. The menu is extensive! Truly something very everyone. Not only hot dogs here! Burgers, lobster rolls, chowder, sausage, poutine. DONUTS!!! Yes fresh made everyday. Plus the biggest Whoopie pies you'll ever see. Service is wonderful, as seeks to be the norm here in central Maine. They greet you as you come in the door. The voices coming out of the kitchen seem calm and relaxed. You can tell they like being here and they all get along. They have some indoor seats, so it's nice to sit and people watch and listen to commentary as they eat. Can't wait to come back again, and then again and again all summer. read more

Bolley's IS DEF famous! They are a local gem cranking out the best dogs, onion rings, and donuts in, my opinion, all of New England! There really is nothing better than snapping into the loaded dog, sitting outside in the sun, on a warm sunny Maine day. Oh, loaded dogs do not come with ketchup - so if you need it on the dog you gotta ask for it. Their fries are fresh and come out piping hot, everything is cooked to order, but their onion rings do it for me. And the prices are stupid reasonable. They offer a variety of bottled water and soda, coffee, tea, everything you'd expect from a local dog eatery. Line goes fast, food is always fresh and delicious it's always a summer check list thing for me to have a dog from Bolley's. Cause it ain't summah in Maine otherwise. Was expecting so much from this place, but it didn't really deliver. First time, and it was just meh. First, the people are very nice and friendly. That is a positive. The actual hot dog was good, but the bun ruined it for me. It was just a piece of one soft white bun. If you toast it with a little butter, then you got something. Onion rings were very tasty, but need to be a little more crispy. They are also known for their donuts. I enjoyed it, but have had much better in my home town. I like a more glazed donut, and this one was more of a cake donut. Good, but not great. This place is not horrible at all, just not to my liking. The food was good. Fries were a little over salted but were crispy. The scallop basket only had 6 in it, so not a good value at all, but the breading was good. The donut tasted like dirty fry oil, and slightly fishy. read more

Despite what other reviews say. This place was great, service was excellent! Everyone was friendly and very quick. The food was also awesome, I can't say it was spectacular or life changing nor original. But it's what you would expect. This is the ORIGINAL Bolley's location. If you're a lover of hot dogs, it is not to be missed. There aren't many places that I specifically crave hot dogs from, but Bolley's makes the list. For those not from the area, Bolley's is an Augusta, Maine tradition. Nostalgia is the main draw to this place, but the dogs and fries definitely still hold up. Everything comes out cooked to order and piping hot. If you like State Fair style, fresh-cut french fries (and who doesn't?), Bolley's is your place. I can't speak too much to the rest of the menu (as the name indicates, there's really one thing this place is known for...), but my husband ordered a burger and said it was just okay. So, stick to the dogs & fries if you want to be safe. The inside of this place looks like it hasn't been touched in decades, but this isn't a place you come to for the atmosphere. Service was fast and friendly. There is no seating inside but a several picnic tables bordering the back of the parking lot to sit and eat. We ordered hot dogs with the works, mustard, onions and relish and small fries. The fries were hot, hand cut and delicious but needed more salt when they come out of the vat. The hot dogs were a disappointment as they were grilled lightly, not hot enough, with mushy onions with mustard and little relish in a steamed mushy bun. I gave it two stars for the fries but expected more from the hot dogs. read more

Re: A small restaurant with a large sign, outside of Augusta and next to one of our favorite cemeteries. We technically ate here twice on our trip, once on the way there, when we grabbed a couple of pastries and we ate dinner there on the way home. We bought a whoopie pie, a strawberry pastry, a rasberry pastry, one frank($1.75 or 3/$3.33), a chicken basket ($6) and a lobster roll basket($10). Outstanding: Everything they make there is amazing. Decadent, perfectly prepared and made quickly. The pastries were so light and fluffy you couldn't hope to eat them neatly and their unconventional lobster roll was a unique treat. Their prices are very reasonable. The Chicken strip dinner I got was $6. Unacceptable: The service, while efficient is pretty surly. The young girls that waited on us clearly preferred to be chatting with their co-workers. They weren't rude, just uninvolved and a bit annoyed with our indecisiveness. The dining room leaves a bit to be desired. Summary: Man, we love everything we've had here, and it's gonna be torture driving past the restaurant every day to and from work now that I know how good it is. Bolley's has been a mainstay in my life for as long as I can remember. It's just a couple miles from where I grew up and where I live now. Bolley's hot dogs and fries are always a fantastic treat. I don't know what it is about the hot dogs, but there are very few other places that make them this well. They just taste so amazing! I always get at least two, topped with ketchup and mustard, sometimes relish. The fries are also not to be missed. I can eat a large serving of them all on my own. With some vinegar and ketchup, they are the perfect accompaniment to the hot dogs. They are the thin kind of fries, which I think some people call "Belgian." They are cooked to exactly the right level of crispiness. Even the fountain sodas here taste better to me than they do at other places. I don't know if they're using a creative ratio of syrup to soda water, or if they just complement the hot dogs and fries perfectly, or what but I almost always have to get one of their root beers with my food. Either that or a chocolate milk, which is also yummy. The ONLY reason I'm giving this less than five stars is because it's not really handicapped accessible. You CAN roll in with a wheelchair, but it's a little difficult. The pavement dips downward right at the door and makes it a bit treacherous. The door is also a little heavy. I can do it but it's a slight struggle. Their only bathroom is also far too tiny to be accessible. The food here, though, is five stars. The only other place I've had hot dogs this good is at Gilley's, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The only other place I've had fries this good is at Duckfat, in Portland, Maine. This is seriously yummy stuff. Oh, just a note, they don't accept debit or credit cards, so make sure you bring cash! read more

Cheap eats near the Capitol and Maine State Library. You'd think I'd go more often, but I don't.. There aren't many hot dog places that serve fresh cut, twice cooked fries with their dogs. I came here exclusively for the doughnuts. My friend brought me here as part of a day out eating in Hallowell, and had talked up Bolley's doughnuts a bunch. I've been searching for good old fashioned doughnuts that remind me of my Nana's. By the time we got there, there was not much to choose from, so we got plain, molasses, and chocolate sugared. Dense and heavy, the plain tasted pretty good, but I missed the crispness of a doughnut right out of the fryer. The molasses was good but was missing something. There was too much sugar on the chocolate sugared, but my personal preference is for doughnuts that don't have toppings. Overall, they're not Nana's doughnuts, but they're pretty good. read more

They have a two basket chicken tenders dinner with fries and tenders for two for $14.95 that gets you stuffed with a hearty portion of juicy lightly fried tenders and hand cut fries. The big plus here is that the oil is fresh and the fries aren't doused in salt so you don't leave eating a fried meal feeling wounded. Also a 3 for $3.33 hot dog deal that cannot be beat. Bolley's franks are a gift to humanity! A fully loaded dog has ketchup, mustard, relish and grilled onions. The onions are carmelized and sweet. You may have read one of my sermons about Mainers eating red dogs- it is completely moot when it comes to Bolley's. They don't serve red dogs, nor do they steam them. The dogs are done on a flat top. You need to ask for your bun grilled, which they are happy to do. Bolley's strays from the methods required for a perfect dog: steamed, not grilled red dogs, grilled not steamed buns.... yet they make the perfect dog. A real find. The dogs are great service is awesome. We ordered the onion rings I commented to Mom that they looked a little wilted. The waitress (who did not hear me)came back in about three minutes with a fresh order of onion rings and said she didn't like the way the first ones looked ---these would be better. They were. As we were leaving, i saw the cook was cleaning the windows outside the building. I asked if he cooked our dogs, and that they were great ---he said yes and he too inquired if the onion rings were good ---that he was not satisfied with the first-order which is why he sent the replacement. Greasy spoon doesn't begin to cover it! I recall going to Bolley's as a child for a hotdog and chocolate milk. Not much has changed except the value and taste of the food, otherwise it looks exactly the same. For $30 I would've expected a much better and tastier meal. 2 cheeseburgers, a hot dog, chicken basket and 3 drinks came to $30.the burgers were more than well done, dry and flavorless. The chicken also was a bit overdone. The fries were greasy and overall it was an extremely I satisfying meal for the money. Even the kids agreed and they aren't exactly food critics.
