    Lobster Roll
    Claudia B.

This is where you go in Boothbay Harbor for a lunchtime lobster roll when the famous and way over-crowded RED'S isn't convenient and when you can't even find Shannon's Unshelled, such was the case for us. We were pleasantly surprised by the great quality of ingredients at Dunton's Doghouse. I love that this place just sort of pops up out of nowhere amid a bunch of residences and B&B's. It seems misplaced, but it doesn't matter. People see this place, they stop, and they eat... like us... and so glad we did !!

We got into Boothbay a little late and tired and drove through town and happened upon Dunton's Doghouse. A little strange that they apparently are known for their hotdogs but mainly a seafood stand. Ordered a shrimp po'boy combo and some clam strips. They finished the po'boy a lot faster than the clam strips and just left the po'boy open on the counter slowly getting cold. They are a cash only business so plan accordingly. A lot of sauces and hot sauces available as well. Overall it was all tasty and would go back. Lobster roll was $36 and just could not get myself to pay that much from a roadside stand.

    Immediate seating was available!

If you want fresh seafood at a reasonable price and not afraid to rough it a little, as opposed to going to a more touristy overpriced place, then find this place! Saw many locals drive in to get their orders taken. I had the fried scallops basket, and the scallops were delicious and juicy. Even the Cole slaw tasted fresh. Will certainly remember this place for when I'm in the area again!

We happen upon Dunton 's and decided to make that our dinner destination. Mostly because there was parking available and there was a small line, telling us that the food was good. We ordered a shrimp poor boy and the clam strips! Both were very good.

The best it's that simply said. Fresh and the menu is loaded with options. The owners take great pride in their food quality

The ultimate taste of Maine in a classic form of a roadside takeout. This tidy little place is around the corner from the bustle of Boothbay Harbor but you'll know as soon as you arrive by the cars and line of people. From amazing hot dogs with a grilled bun to haddock sandwiches that will leave you craving more to oyster Po boys. Cash only but an ATM is available on site. A must try for a true Maine food lover.

I love this spot and almost never have a problem finding parking. Which is amazing, even during tourist season. It's a cute little roadside food place, very Summer. Very Maine. Offers the typical coastal stuff: fried -everything that comes out of the ocean. Plus burgers, chicken, fries, mozzarella sticks, hot dogs. Etc. two big cases of a variety of drinks. A basket full of numerous home baked goodies (I grabbed a Whoopie pie!) and two shelves full of all the condiments and toppings you could want. The folks that work here are so friendly and patient. Love their faces! Lots of seating! Even mini picnic tables for the kiddos.

Lobster roll with fries and the fried shrimp basket

One of my favorite stops on our Maine trip. We were not planning to eat here, but while passing on our way out of boothbay harbor, we saw this shack and knew that it had to be great. My wife got the shrimp basket and I got the jumbo lobster roll. Both were top quality. The lobster was so fresh and there was the perfect amount of mayo to where it cover the lobster, but did not over take it. The service was so friendly and I and so ready to be back again to order another roll.

Their lobster roll is amazing! Our group also had the haddock with fries. That is also amazing! Their tater sauce goes very well with the haddock

My first time visiting a doghouse, the hot dogs were skinny and the onion rings were over cooked and dry. I would not go back.

Second time we visited, we both had the lobster roll with mayo. Again, a very generous portion topped with a large whole claw meat. What we especially liked was that it wasn't swimming in mayo, but just enough to lightly coat the meat so the true flavor shines through. A true Maine lobster roll and so reasonably priced! Staff is so friendly and you can tell they have a lot of pride in what they offer. It was like having a picnic with a nice view of the water and 1901 Footbridge. I was already in a foul mood, walking in here set me into straight sensory overload. It's a bar where they sing. I am unable to get inebriated enough to enjoy bars where they sing any longer. Call me miserable, maybe I suppose. In addition to the merry old fella belting it out on the mic, we had the joy of having some drunk guy in a large group behind us try and out sing him without a microphone. He even challenged the old guy singing to a form of a duel. Anyway I was so off, I cannot remember anything about my server at all. Nothing. I do remember almost screaming and running out. I sat there trying not to lose it while my wife had the time of her life. Every song made it worse, everyone else is singing, I am dying. When the guy took a break, guess what, dickhead from the crowd goes up and takes over. Shots helped at this point and the weed is kicking in well at this point. Now I'm hungry... My food was inedible and I'm pretty sure incomplete as well. The worst flatbread in the history of flatbreads. C's looked pretty good actually so I am sure her experience was quite different than mine. I hope to never return. '25 - extra

You can purchase sodas ($2) or alcoholic beverages. We indulged in the light & tasty Cabbage Island Aide ($10), with Pinnacle blueberry vodka, pink lemonade & a splash of club soda garnished with Maine blueberries. Only cash is accepted for drinks and gift shop purchases. After finding a picnic table, either indoors or out, your server will take your drink order & bring your fish chowder. Shortly afterwards, the dinner bell will ring & you head down to the pit where the food is cooked to pick up your meal. We were also pleased that the two Moore brothers who have owned this family business for 38 years stopped by every table individually to ensure that all were having a good time. And at the end of the day, they stood on the dock waving as our boat left Cabbage Island. Such a gracious gesture! I'm looking forward to making this an annual event. I can't eat white potatoes as it's inflammatory for my auto immune- no sweet potato was available - I do prefer them -or used to them- and so I got asparagus (odd for a substitute but it's veggies) this was a super treat I'm not sure how the crab should have tasted but it's not what I'm used to growing up so for me , I personally didn't like it and I didn't think the flavor was good - I added lemon- didn't seem to help. The atmosphere was great but the concentration was on that back room. The crab roll could have been better as I've had them before, calamari was good and scallops too. Also noting most of these restaurants never have NON COLA DIET SODA - It sits right in the harbor - the waitress engaged in conversation - a lot of these folks are immigrants on a work visa returning to the Harbor during summers & then fly to their countries until the next summer.
