We were walking around town and I remember seeing this place on the map. So we decided to at least get a visual of this place as it had positive reviews on Yelp - avg rating of 4.5 It was still fairly early, however we could see the line was forming. We decided to give it a chance, since most of the people there seemed to be local or at least seasonal locals. Given this was just a "snack" for us, we decided on a hotdog, cheeseburger and shared some fries. The ordering process can get a little chaotic, as there is a lot of conversation at the grill with orders being placed and prepared and people chatting in line. We placed our order and were given a number and you could stay at the window (which gets really crowded) or you can have a seat at the picnic table. I decided to wait near the window while I took pictures for Yelp. From what I could hear the prices of the seafood options are "high" although I didn't think it was unreasonable given how fresh the seafood is. We didn't even get seafood and really enjoyed our food. Very fresh and didn't have old grill flavor. We would definitely return if in the area, I would love to try the haddock if we had more time. read more

Love this place!!! Drove by and had to stop. Super clean and inviting. Great out door seating and view of the bay. Total neighborhood feel. The guy who made our food was friendly, helpful and totally cool with us being there 5 mins before they closed. We had a lobster roll and a clam strip basket. Full of lobster! Huge strips! This is where you go in Boothbay Harbor for a lunchtime lobster roll when the famous and way over-crowded RED'S isn't convenient and when you can't even find Shannon's Unshelled, such was the case for us. We were pleasantly surprised by the great quality of ingredients at Dunton's Doghouse. I love that this place just sort of pops up out of nowhere amid a bunch of residences and B&B's. It seems misplaced, but it doesn't matter. People see this place, they stop, and they eat... like us... and so glad we did !! read more

We got into Boothbay a little late and tired and drove through town and happened upon Dunton's Doghouse. A little strange that they apparently are known for their hotdogs but mainly a seafood stand. Ordered a shrimp po'boy combo and some clam strips. They finished the po'boy a lot faster than the clam strips and just left the po'boy open on the counter slowly getting cold. They are a cash only business so plan accordingly. A lot of sauces and hot sauces available as well. Overall it was all tasty and would go back. Lobster roll was $36 and just could not get myself to pay that much from a roadside stand. read more

Saw many locals drive in to get their orders taken. I had the fried scallops basket, and the scallops were delicious and juicy. Even the Cole slaw tasted fresh. I love this spot and almost never have a problem finding parking. Which is amazing, even during tourist season. It's a cute little roadside food place, very Summer. Very Maine. Offers the typical coastal stuff: fried -everything that comes out of the ocean. Plus burgers, chicken, fries, mozzarella sticks, hot dogs. Etc. two big cases of a variety of drinks. A basket full of numerous home baked goodies (I grabbed a Whoopie pie!) and two shelves full of all the condiments and toppings you could want. The folks that work here are so friendly and patient. One of my favorite stops on our Maine trip. We were not planning to eat here, but while passing on our way out of boothbay harbor, we saw this shack and knew that it had to be great. My wife got the shrimp basket and I got the jumbo lobster roll. Both were top quality. The lobster was so fresh and there was the perfect amount of mayo to where it cover the lobster, but did not over take it. For a little shack on the side of the road, this place was hoppin'!! My husband and I both shared the jumbo lobster roll($43) and bacon wrapped scallops($20). The roll was the same size as the regular lobster roll, just had more piled on it. It was just pretty good. The scallops were delicious and served with a small container of Ken's mustard sauce. There are picnic tables behind the shack & we ate there. My husband was still hungry after we finished & got a foot long hotdog, Sabrett's, which he enjoyed. Today we tried the bacon wrapped scallops, onion rings, and a red hot dog with mustard. Onion rings were cooked perfectly, with the onion inside intact and the breading crispy and delicious! The scallops melted in our mouths with the bacon cooked just crisp enough! Offered with honey mustard. The red dog was yummy too and a great deal for $3. One of the best lobster roll I've had. No fillers, just a dressing and the fresh lobster on a hot toasted bun. I love it's simplicity and freshness. Burgers are juicy and flavorful. The tomatoes and lettuce are fresh. The buns could've been more toasted but other than that, it is perfect.
