I scheduled an appointment online. I followed prompts to spend $50.00. After the appointment the cost jumped to $75.00. I explained the cost should be $50.00. They totally did the bait and switch. Buyer beware! Despite the service length that you reserve AND PAY FOR (i.e. a 90 minute facial), you get what you get. My facial experience was over in an hour and they would not refund me the $50 difference. I got a $20 "goodwill" credit and the explanation that "sometimes it doesn't take the full 90 minutes". Well - if service times vary, LET PEOPLE KNOW, and don't charge different prices for different service lengths. I was a long term client at Simonson. I wear my hair short, my last visit a week ago was a disaster! I said that I wanted nothing off the front or top and to cut the back. my hair is so short that I can't use my round brush or chi like I always do. there is nothing I can do with it. I paid $80 and tipped $10 and wanted a refund. they offered me rework on my hair or a free bangs trim! neither is of help to me . so basically they offered to cut more of my hair off for free????????!!!!!!!!! I made an appointment a week in advance for highlights. I was super excited and less than an hour before my appointment, they called and canceled because of "booking conflicts". I was really upset and felt that it was unprofessional that they called so soon in advance. The girl I spoke with wasn't even nice about it and offered to book me like two weeks after. I think this establishment is really unprofessional and the staff was inconsiderate. Extremely unhappy with the service I received from this salon on 12/9. Went to a stylist, who on their websites profile said they're an "expertise" in short women's hair cuts, for a shoulder length bob. I spent $59 on a butchered hair cut. I showed inspiration pictures, and was told "so just touching your shoulder" I agreed that is what I was looking for. When I was done I went home and looked at my hair noticing that there were random long pieces, which was unusual. The next day I had realized there were many uneven random pieces of hair. After looking in the mirror and taking pictures I was horrified to see what my hair looked like unstyled. Today 12/1, I went in to ask for a refund. In the past I have gotten my hair lightened at this same exact salon and paid hundreds of dollars, only to end up with green in my hair. I was told that it was my water... I called after I got home maybe an hour after my appointment. I did not wash my hair. After spending all that money all they said they could do was dye my hair back dark for free. Failing again after a second chance, I was not comfortable with having a stylist from this salon. I was asked if it looked the way it did from the way I blow dried it (have not washed my hair between after the cut and now). I was told first if I did not go back to the same stylist I would have to pay for the service fee of the new stylist. Then it changed to I didn't have to pay the service fee. Again, I have been through this "fixing" process before and was not going to trust the stylists there. I was told that there are no refunds and that I could only get a 50% refund on a gift card. My hair cut was $59 and I was given a $25 gift card (not sure how 25 was calculated to 50%). When getting it fixed by a trusted hair stylist, I was told "it looked like you cut it yourself" and "I'm sorry someone let you walk out of a salon looking like this." I now have hair that is no where near the length of what my original plan was. I have lost money and time for a hair cut that makes me cry every time I look in the mirror. I will never go back to this salon and will never recommend to any family or friends. Horrible customer service this is not what I asked for and even if I let them "fix" this it is still not what I asked for. read more

I came here for the first time after my regular girl quit at another salon the week before my wedding after working with her for over 6 months. I called Sunday morning and ask if anyone here was familiar with pompadours and fades. They said there were a few. I was lucky enough to get an appointment at 1:15pm the same day! I met with Tarin and she made a great first impression. She listened to my rant about how and why I ended up in her seat. She asked me a few questions and I showed her a couple pictures and she was off. She did an amazing job. She listened to what I had to say and I left with a great haircut and style! I've visited a few times for a lip wax and lash tint and curl. Sadie does an AMAZING job on my lashes. I've seen a handful of gals for lash tinting and curling in three different states and wasn't getting the results I'd hoped for. Sadie is able to get my stubborn, coarse lashes to lift beautifully and stay that way for many weeks. The other lifts I've gotten elsewhere were never able to get the curl as nice or all of my lashes to cooperate. I wish I could bring Sadie back to the west coast with me to do my lashes!!! read more

I really enjoyed the facial. They are very warm and welcoming, they immediately ask if you want something to drink. It only took a few minutes until the person doing it came to get me, which gave me time to fill out paperwork. They have dim lighting which eased my anxiety. The person doing my facial answered all of my questions and consistently was gentle with asking me if I was uncomfortable at all (some of it was supposed to sting a little). I have been going to Simonson's for over 14 years and love it! In fact, I've lived in Colorado, D.C., and Arizona, and still ONLY go to Simonson's for my hair. When I'm home in MN visiting family, I book an appointment to get in. Suzie is the best! She is the only stylist that I will trust to cut and color my hair. Being a blonde, you have to go to someone who really knows what they're doing in terms of highlights and color, and Suzie knows her stuff. I've also had manicures and facials done at Simonson's, too, and they do a great job at those! Simonson's goes above-and-beyond to ensure a pleasant experience for their clients. While they are on the higher end for pricing, it is worth it to me to know that I will love my hair and that it will come out how I wanted it. read more

The staff was nice. Environment was good for hair salon. I came in with back pain and needed a massage. Definitely not what I had in mind. The waiting room was very uncomfortable, I was sitting on a hard bench with no back, looked good but very uncomfortable. The room had a doctors office vibe with a very hard table. The pillow smelt like someone else's oil. She spent more time putting oil on me then actually massaging me. The massage style was more like pressure poking. Afterwards it was like ...k buy... not relaxing at all. Definitely not a spa vibe. But if you need your hair cut or want to by some cool earrings or a purse then go for it but I'm probably not going back for a massage. Also kind of awkward...on my way to the bathroom there was an employee eating a cheeseburger next to a massage table in a room and I was praying that wasn't my room. I got an updo here as practice for my wedding. I went in for a consultation, and I couldn't imagine what she was saying so I agreed to an updo. She tried 3 different quick hairstyles that looked more like she was playing with ideas rather than giving me an updo, which would have been fine, if I wouldn't of had to pay $85 for it. The "final" product was taken down, and even if it hadn't been, I would have done it when I walked out the door. The final hair was awful in terms of "this is what your hair will look like on your wedding day". I later called the manager for a partial refund (understanding I did need to pay maybe $20) because I disagreed that it was truly an updo, but she said the stylist did 3 "updo's" so the best she could do is give me $17 back. I paid $68 for 30 minutes for a glorified consultation. I wouldn't waste another dollar there. read more

I had been going here for my hair and pedicures for a number of years. The quality of stylists went downhill very much so over time so I had to complain a few times. Management was unhelpful and defended the horrible work done to my hair and feet. Deidre Simonson, one of the owners banned me from all the salons except Coon Rapids and I was only allowed to see one particular stylist. I am disabled living on social security and my job so quality and good customer service are very important when spending money at this level. Deidre made me feel horrribe about my disbilities and was extremely cold and callous. I would never recommend this salon to anyone, especially the disabled and the elderly, I can imagine that Simonson's would also take advantage of them too. read more

I went in about 2 weeks ago today for the first time and had my hair colored and cut. When i called and made my appointment I was very adamant about who would be doing my hair as I have had a few bad experience since moving down here from up North. So I made sure I explained exactly what it is I wanted. I made sure I said I don't want any red popping.....and make sure my grays get covered as I always have my hair up due to work. As I am watching i noticed she didn't put in nearly the amount of foils as my regular stylist would have. At this point I'm already thinking this isn't gonna be enough. When all done and said..... I ended up with very few highlights, and those few were red. When I pull my hair up into a bun, there is NO difference at all. I can see all my grays. When I get my hair done my friends usually notice the beautiful colored etc...... not one person believes that I had my hair done. I called to setup time for my wife and a friend to have a day spa for her Birthday, I would be out of town at a all mens bible retreat I wanted to surprise her. Well I also learned a lesson, Never call 3 days ahead looking for a day spa for two people at the same time. That was hell. I called all 3 locations not one had a package to fit my need at the time, over an hour on the phone. Very Frustrating!!!!!!!! But this isn't about me, We did find something, and My wife and her best friend enjoyed every minute of the day, So I have to say THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! you guys did great!!!!!! I love going to Simonson's. I have been enjoying their various services for over 10 years now! My new favorite is Dylan, who is an amazing esthetician! The first time she did my eyebrows for me I was so happy I had to keep looking in the mirror all day :) I love Dylan she does a great job and is so nice and upbeat and sweet to my toddler when I have to bring her with to my appointments. I will continue to go and see her for my eyebrows and other services! Updated 8/29/2015 I also want to mention what a great job January does! She recently brought my eyebrows back from the brink of disaster :0 after I made a error in judgement and tried a new waxing place up the road, where I ended up with missing areas in my eyebrows that had to be heavily penciled in :( But my wonderful January knew just what to do and cleaned them up and evened them out so that they look AMAZING! I started going to this salon recently for my gel nail fills (not polish, actual gel overlay). Holly has become my 'regular' nail tech, but I also saw Natalia for a service when Holly was not available and both techs provide friendly, quality service. The front desk staff has always been efficient and friendly. Although I've not experienced any other services at this salon, I would definitely recommend them for gel nails. read more

I booked 6 manicures and pedicures in February for my July wedding for the wedding party, the day before the wedding. I got a confirmation call the day before the appointments and was very excited for the experience with my wedding party. When we arrived, we were asked to wait for 20 minutes, 15 minutes into the appointment time, only to be told they have no record of our reservation. They also informed me they had called the other simonsons to see if I had made a mistake and scheduled them at another location, but I had not. They said they could take us 1 at a time, which totally defeats the purpose of a group event. SO rude to not come talk to us for 20 minutes while they tried to find my mistake instead of immediately admitting their error and calling around to find us another location. I will never go back here, and wouldn't recommend them ever for their unprofessionalism. read more

I had called to set up a couple appointments two weeks before I was getting married. The lady I had spoken with had no idea what the prices were for what services and what the service came with. I shrugged it off since I had been there numerous times before and scheduled a waxing for Saturday and hair and make up on Sunday, which was the day I was getting married. Saturday came along and I received a phone call at 12:30, (My appointment was scheduled for 12:45) and said the woman who was doing my appointment was running 30-45 minutes behind since the customer before me arrived late to her appointment. By the time I received the phone call I was already down the street so I just went in to talk to them to see if I could get in with anyone else since I have a daughter and only had a babysitter for an hour. Of course no one else was available, so I had to cancel that appointment! The next day (Sunday), my hair appointment was scheduled for 10:45 and my make up was scheduled for 11:45 since I had to be out of the salon by 12:30 to make it to my wedding by 2! I had both appointments confirmed by email too I might add. Once again I received a phone call at 10:30 asking if I was still coming in for my hair appointment and I said yes I was on my way, I was not schedule until 10:45, the woman on the phone said my hair appointment had changed to 10am and make up to 11am. I had no clue what they were talking about and I never changed my appointment because I could not get a sitter until 10am that morning in the first place! They made a change in my appointment without even telling me or confirming with me that it would work around my schedule! Anyways I arrived and had my hair done. I kept telling the stylist that my hair was super loose and it felt like it was going to fall out. I was completely ignored and was told that she had another appointment in 2 minutes so there was nothing she could do for me. The woman who did my make up was wonderful and super nice and did an amazing job, that was the only good outcome of this whole thing! I arrived to my wedding at 2pm and by 2:30 my hair was falling apart! I had called and spoken with a manager and I am getting a "refund" (a gift card to Simonson's) for my hair mistake. I would not recommend this place to anyone that needs an updo and their quality of service is going downhill! They completely ruined one of the biggest days of my life! read more

Two words: Overpriced hacks. More words: Had my hair and makeup done for a formal event. This required two 45-minute sessions (one for makeup, one for hair). Makeup session went the full 45-minutes. Great, but when complete, I was aghast to find the "artist" left me looking corpse-like. (I'd requested a total glam look complete with false lashes and the works!) I told myself maybe it was the lighting in the place, and I'd see what I might need to "touch-up" once in my own bathroom at home. I saw a "stylist" for the hair part of the session. I'd uploaded a half-dozen photos onto my phone to give her an idea of what I was looking for. Not one photo involved curls or a total updo....I wanted a straight, partial updo. She barely glanced at my photos, and immediately grabbed her curling iron. I figured she was the professional and knew how I'd look best, so I didn't resist. After curling and spraying for less than 10 minutes (and leaving all of my hair down....no partial updo!), she asks me how I like it. I didn't, so I asked her to maybe put it up? She grabbed about 4 bobby pins and randomly placed them in my hair. "How's that?" she asked, spinning me to the mirror. I could tell she was completely clueless and disinterested in giving me what I wanted. At this point, I'd been in her chair less than 15 minutes (Remember, I'd booked a 45-minute hair session). I knew I'd be redoing my hair and makeup at home, so I took what was left of my remaining time and went home and redid my entire face and hairdo. I would have been better off doing my own and saving myself the $200 bill! Ridiculous! I will never set foot in that place again and have told everyone with whom a discussion about a salon arises to avoid the place at any cost. There are many, many TRUE hair and makeup artists in this city. Go to one of them. Don't patronize this place and waste your money. read more
