I trusted Courtney. Unfortunately, when I communicated to her that I had been tested by a neuropsychologist for autism, she abruptly ended our therapeutic relationship. My issue is that she gave no explanation aside from "we're not a good fit." I could have bought such a generic answer had I only been seeing her for a few months, but after over 2 years? Clearly, something happened to cause this, and I believe it would have been useful for me to understand what that was. Without any explanation, I was left to ruminate endlessly, wondering what I had done to create such a rift. Needless to say, this rupture further traumatized me and set me back in my healing. I still get stuck wondering what happened. This is not something that should happen to already -traumatized patients in a mental health practice. She then informed me in a mean tone of voice that there was "nothing she could do about that and she wasn't going to argue with me." REALLY? I have only seen one counselor here since I have been coming here mainly to process grief and loss that comes with my vocation. I am trying to practice what I teach, and utilize self-care so I don't burn out in ministry.

I began seeing a therapist, but it was clear that we were not a good "fit". I easily switched to a different counselor, and I'm very happy. Everyone from the counselors to the receptionists have always been kind and professional. They even send appointment reminders via text. Sometimes it's the "little things" that count. I have recommended this practice to a few friends who are in search of support. I'll continue to do so. Having good mental health support options is so very important, and this practice provides that.

First, like many, I had to wait 2 months for testing. This I think is relatively normal in the area, I called several offices trying to get in sooner but couldn't. However, after the testing, I was basically told my intelligence scores were too high to have ADHD. This seems...a bit ludicrous. As an adult I've spent years making up for symptoms and trying to find ways to test better. I also have a family history of ADHD and have learned tips from family members. They said my personally reported symptoms sounded like ADHD but my test scores were above average so I should work on concentration. Concentration. Thanks, I've been trying to do that for years. Went to two other offices and was diagnosed with ADHD by both, so I'm taking their opinions. Maybe since ADHD/Adderall is overdiagnosed/prescribed they're unwilling to diagnose people who can cope with their symptoms? Not sure. I can tell you now being medicated, I've never felt so peaceful or able to focus, it's been life changing. If something feels off, get a second opinion.
