Excellent experience with Simply Better Plumbing and Drain, Inc.! Found this company through a basic Google search along with two other contractors whom I called to compare free-estimates. As an out-of-state rental property owner (located in Tempe, AZ), I was in a jam, needing same day service, with one leaky sink, and another faucet that had minimal water flow. I couldn't handle these repairs on my own, and was dreading the cost of paying a plumber. Don, the plumber (possibly, also the owner of SBPD, Inc. ?), was the first to arrive and did so, promptly and professionally. He was patient, as I was a little erratic. He walked me through the problem, explaining its source, and its solution in as much detail as I needed. Don, gave me a very reasonable quote, to the point where I agreed on the spot to have him do the work, before the other guys even came to check it out. He finished up and even gave a few excellent recommendations on preventative measures I could take in regards to maintaining my pipes, faucets, and other water based hardware, in good working order. We were even able to talk, person to person for a few minutes, which, when the work is done, is great! ... I'm a relatively young guy, who appreciates the old-school down-to-earth professionalism that this company embodies. They seem to understand that if you treat a customer well, educate them when they're curious, and try to help them save money on their own, that their business will be top-of-mind when professional services are required. I am a firm believer in the little guy, the local small businessman, the one- or two-man show, a family business that has been around for 49 years. The larger, franchised companies have uniformed representatives who work slowly, unsurely and then you with a inflated bill bill that most certainly has the customer paying for the company's television commercials, celebrity talent, a fleet of fancy trucks--and, yes, those uniforms. Don of Bird Dog Plumbing answers his own phone. On a Saturday. He, with partner Rob, have been doing that, just the two of them, for more than 10 years. And in 25 minutes, Don was at my front door, tools in hand, smile on face, and introducing himself with a solid handshake. He took one look at my problem--a time-frozen, two faucet outlet in the back yard that had broken off about six inches out from the kitchen wall--and told me, a fairly capable DIY guy, there was no problem. And there wasn't. Don has a new pipe tapped and welded in place, with two new faucets, a spreader and a new shut off valve in about 45 minutes. The bill was exceptionally low. Don's work was speedy, efficient and knowledgeable. I will, of course, be using Bird Dog plumbing for all future needs. I have also passed him on to my son, a realtor and an addicted fixer-upper of old homes. I add Don to my list of honest merchants. We are now family. PS I was initially aware of Don. although we never met, when I parked next to his truck (white, with Dalmatian black spots beneath "Bird Dog Plumbing" on the side) at our local dog park. Do we recommend this plumbing company? My wife and I own a home built in 1966; it had plumbing problems that no plumbing company could really solve. Each year the kitchen sink would back up and not respond with the old plunger routine. As luck would have it, a friend referred us to Don Paz; we were told he was a good and honest plumber. We called and made an appointment; he was actually on time. We didn't have to wait all day! Don told us he could snake out the drain and it would work a few months; or we could do it right and let him remove the old pipes and install a new drainage pipe and set it properly at a better pitch so it would drain. That's exactly what he did; there was no hidden cost, just a really good tradesman doing his job with craftsmanship. In one bathroom the water always slowly leaked through the toilet. No plumber could figure it out. We changed out the trap door several times to no avail, it still leaked. We told Don about it; he spent five minutes examining the toilet. "You need a new toilet; this one has a hairline crack you can't see." So we had him install a Toto brand; this is the top of the line. I've never seen or heard anything like this toilet. It uses very little water and flushes so quickly it's hard to describe. He even gave a break on the price. Do we recommend this plumbing company? You bet. D & R Herman read more

I got quotes from several of the other highly rated plumbing businesses in the area on Yelp for a bunch of work that needed to be done on my new home. I am surprised they only have one review on here, so I wanted to give them some more publicity. Here is why I recommend Simply Better: 1. Their quote was around $500, the others were from $700 to $950. 2. They offered to do more simple repairs they noticed that needed to be done than the other companies, thrown in with the cost. 3. They were more willing to work around my schedule and get it done quickly. 4. Don easily understood the list of repairs from my home inspection report, explained them to me and pointed them out. Some of the other plumbing agencies were confused by some of the items and were not able to find what they were talking about. 5. They made it easy, and got the parts I requested for me, rather than me having to find them myself. I am very happy with the parts they got. 6. They taught me how to do a couple of simple things to avoid having to call out a plumber again and save me money in the future. My impression (as someone who knows nothing about plumbing) is that they are reliable, professional, and honest. I would recommend them to a friend. I was very happy with their service, and did not feel gouged at all as I expected to feel by getting plumbing work done. read more

So, this is an atypical review. I never actually paid for a service from this company. But, I did have a great experience with Don, the owner. I called the business, and Don, the owner, answered the phone. I talked with him about a problem I was having with my hot water tank, and a possible leak. He willfully and happily spent quite a bit of time with me, instructing me over the phone on things to look at, a couple tests to do with my water meter and valves, and recommended a couple leak detection companies. I then made an appointment time for him to come out after the leak detection company came to my house. A day later, I had the leak detection company come out, and I was extremely happy to hear that I did not have a major problem at all, and it was fixed right there. I called Don, expressed my extreme greatfullness for his help over the phone, and also expressed the fact that I was sorry that I was canceling his appointment because I didn't need his service. Don didn't try to push me to still have him come out. For that matter, he give me no other feeling but the fact that he was very happy for me that my problem had been solved. These guys are the best hands down. Answered my home advisor inquiry in the matter of minutes. They offer a free estimate which I feel very few businesses do. And they sent a gentleman over a few hours later. Louis was an amazing representative of this company and their values. Beyond professional, was honest and showed why they are Simply Better Plumbing. Long story short I needed a pressure regulator valve put in on my water main. Five other companies that I spoke to before Simply Better reached out to me, quoted me $300 - $800 after a minimum of 75 estimate/ inspection trip fee. These amazing people came out an hour later for FREE and fixed my issue for under $300. This is the definition of great customer service and just plain good business. I will never let another person or company handle any of my plumbing needs after this experience. It says it in their name, they are just Simply Better! I had nothing but a very positive experience with Simply Better. To make a long story short, I had a "handyman" trying to fix a leaky faucet in a bath tub. He made the problem worse and ran off leaving my bathroom in shambles. I needed a REAL plumber to fix everything quickly. I was afraid of what the cost would be, but had no choice but to get someone who actually knew what they were doing. After reading the yelp reviews I decided to give these guys a try. Not only did they come out the same day that I called, but they didn't try to take my first-born child. They went over the problem, gave me options for how to solve it, and got everything done for a very reasonable price. By the time I got home from work the problem was solved and I didn't have to worry about it any more. I learned my lesson. No more handymen for my plumbing issues. Simple... Impressed with the crew. Called yesterday, they scheduled me for Saturday at 2-3, 2:30 got a call saying they were delayed due to an emergency issue at their current job. Said they'd be later around 5. 5:35 Steve called apologized, asked if I still wanted service tonight or Monday morning. They arrived at upon my request, worked to replace my water heater. Very professional, didn't try to up sale me. Noted that the gas line should be replaced but it wasn't urgent. Offered to come back out and help if needed in the future. After dealing with 2 crappy dishonest plumbers this week that my warranty company assigned, it was a breath of fresh air to have some honest dudes helping me. You've earned future biz. We had to have a main water line running under our driveway replaced and got three quotes. We had one quote that included cutting through our concrete driveway and would have been a major job. Don did the work without cutting the driveway, provided better parts, and for less than all other quotes. Don has provided help over the phone for other problems and is always patient and his advice is always the best. This plumbing company out of Mesa Az is Awesome!! I called this morning for someone to come out and check the leak we had behind our washer which turned out to be in between the walls.
