Can you tell which cupcake is gluten free? Because we know which they are but can't taste a difference. My husband eats gluten free and the kids and I don't have to, so when he saw she could make gluten free for the same price and timeframe as regular cupcakes, we knew we had to give it a shot. He actually surprised me with a trip to pick them up. Let's just say, I've never had a peach bourbon cupcake but I can't imagine it ever being better than the one I had today. TL:dr, the owner was rude and hurried us along and the cupcakes were no better than a grocery store. We were so excited to discover a cake shop in town and spent time on their website looking at all the gorgeous cupcakes and cookies. Our kid's birthdays were coming up and we wanted to let them get whatever flavor they wanted. We took the time to go try the flavors and that was where the fun ended. We walked into the tiny shop and it looked great. Crowded, but you could see the center of the shop was for watching them bake. Two ladies were there, a younger woman mixing what looked like frosting. The other lady was older and looked irritated. I said we wanted to try some and then order two dozen for two days away. From the moment I said that, we all felt like we were putting her out, we weren't welcomed or anything. They had only a few types of cupcakes ready to buy, none of the specialty ones they sell online. When we still put in our order, you could tell she was hurrying us along so we'd get out, even though we were the only people there. You'd think spending over $60 on 2 dozen cupcakes would buy you a smile. The lady making frosting was giving us sympathetic smiles and looked embarrassed by the owner's attitude. When we left my son commented on how that wasn't how he pictured it going. Yeah, same here. Our fun jaunt to a surprise little cake shop was uncomfortable, hurried, and unsatisfying. The cupcakes weren't any better. The frosting was falling off of all of them, some were dry and none of them were any better than what you could get at the grocery store for a fraction of the price. When we went and picked them up, a kind lady and her daughter were there and they were very welcoming and had our order ready to go. New bakery in a town w/ not a lot of bakery competition. I've been looking for a place to get a really nice, gourmet cupcake in Marysville... I don't have much selection to choose from in this town, so I went around to some of the grocery stores tried Haggens (they had a large cupcake, but was nothing special), and Safeway (smaller cupcake but icing was great), and then I tried this place... The owner was very nice and cheery, she had a plate of very small bite sized chocolate w/ white icing cupcakes as samples. I tired one, and they were good, but that flavor wasn't available to purchase that day. I scanned the display case, trying to figure out what cupcake I wanted to take home with me. A lot of her cupcakes seemed to be made with a "buttercream/ cream cheese" frosting combo. Honestly, as a cupcake/ cake fan, and a baker myself I can't even imagine mixing those two, and personally I cannot stand the taste of cream cheese icing so that left me with a "Chocolate Chip Cupcake (vanilla cake w/ choc chips & choc buttercream w/ choc chips on top), and my mom got a Lemon Cupcake to go. Each cupcake was $2.75 (+ tax), and seemed slightly smaller than even a regular size cupcake which was kinda disappointing for the hefty price -- but I wanted to try this new place out, and was hoping to me wowed & amazed by the cupcake. My Chocolate Chip Cupcake was OK. I had good flavor, was moist, the choc buttercream was good, fresh, but there was hardly any on the cupcake. I give it a B- because I love icing.My mom's Lemon Cupcake must have been good because she keeps saying how great the icing was. Makes me wish I was a lemon fan. Place is a cake shop. Just that. No coffee or tea or anything to drink. No where to sit. I'm guessing she's counting on just being a special order cake shop, the cupcakes are there so people can stop in and buy a few to take home? Not sure how any business could service on that, especially a new, unestablished business. This is not the type of place where you'd get a cupcake, a coffee, and sit with a friend to visit. Hours seem really short & inconsistent. I drive past this place often, and more than 2/3rds of the time its not open. I saw they had a booth at Marysville Strawberry Festival. On Friday I was at the Festival, it was 3pm and they were just then setting up their booth. Pretty sloppy & unprofessional in my book. All in all, I can't say I would go back when I get my cupcake cravings, but if they hit and I happen to be nearby, I might stop & give a second chance, although Safeway can better satisfy my cravings for less and they are just a couple of blocks away.... I Have been waiting for Marysville to have a decent bakery so I was exited to stop in and try this place. My first impression when I walked through the door was that it looked dirty and cluttered. Still I figured maybe it's like one of those divy breakfast places that has the best breakfasts ever! So I settled on a couple of cupcakes for our dessert (not much of a choice) and a cookie for me on the way home. The cookie wasn't much to look at, I can decorate better than that and I don't run a bakery. On top of the crude decoration the cookie tasted stale. As far as the cupcakes go, the actual cupcake itself was really good but the butter cream frosting wasn't that great (Butter cream is usually my favorite). The chocolate frosting was pretty good though. There is still 1/2 of each cupcake sitting on my kitchen counter and 2/3 of the cookie (my husband and I shared bites to try them). I don't know about you but still having 1/2 a cup cake on my counter almost 24 hours later speaks volumes in my house. Plus the $3.00 each cupcake was really steep for amount and quality.
