Stop reading and call Simply Catered. Over the last month my family attended 2 other catered events and Simply Catered was hands down the BEST! We had crab cakes with a roasted pepper aioli and coconut shrimp with an orange sauce for passed appetizers. I'm still craving them this morning. Our meal included Caesar Salad, filet and lobster tail. My fillet (2 1/2 inches thick) was cooked to medium rare perfection and my lobster tail was probably the most perfectly cooked lobster I have ever had. Lastly, Alison helped me with all the details. To say she has "attention to detail" is an understatement! I looked high and low all over the ENTIRE bay area for a caterer who would meet my needs for my 150+ guest wedding. No one came close to what Simply Catered had to offer me! I found a hidden gem and now I want to share it with the world!!! You all can thank me later, but let me tell you about my experience..... I, like any other bride, wanted every detail of my wedding to be beyond perfect. I also wanted my wedding to look fabulous, in terms of presentation, without having to break the bank. Let just say I had a long and extensive 6 month search and no one was able to fulfill my expectations. Now my key components in finding the right caterer were the following: 1. Not having to spend over $75/pp for food! 2. Having all my specific requests met without having to pay for additional costs and extra service labor 3. Excellent tasting food with beautiful presentation 4. A caterer who would allow me to provide my own alcohol without having to purchase one of their over priced beverage packages 5. A caterer that I could TRUST 6. A caterer that was easy to get ahold of at ANY time of the day 7. and LASTLY a caterer who would get my parents approval :) Now let me tell you, It was absolutely HELL trying to meet all these key components with all the various 50+ caterers I came across. I spent nights worrying if I would ever find a caterer who wasn't trying to rip me off. Then finally, the heavens opened up and God answered my prayers and sent down an angel known as Simply Catered. Simply catered did an absolutely wonderful job catering our July wedding at the Green Room inside of the War Memorial Building in San Francisco. We had a 150 guest wedding and all the guests raved about the food. My uncle who has been a chef for 30+ years, who is rather hard to please in the food dept., was completely impressed with the quality and presentation of the food. He said it was, "the best food (he has) ever eaten at a wedding, period." Therefore I knew we picked a winner when we selected Simply Catered. Alison and Greg were wonderful to work with in the whole pre-planning process. Alison replied very promptly to all my calls and e-mails, even in the late hours of the night! I even had bridezilla moments that weren't even catering related and Alison was always there to reassure me, with kind words, that everything was going to be okay. Who would have known Alison was a therapist/caterer!! I had complete trust in Alison and Simply Catered and I never had to worry once. Now for the food......We had a buffet dinner that was beautifully executed with two main courses and a few side dishes. The chicken marsala and roasted tri-tip with mushroom gravy we had was absolutely yummy!!! It was perfectly cooked and the presentation was just beautiful! Oh and before I forget to mention, Alison and the team served all of our elderly guests and our parents at NO extra charge. This was a great added touch that I will never forget about, along with the take home boxes she provided us with at the end of our wedding! I had high standards for them to live up to as my mother often provided the same service, albeit not professionally. My mother was known for her fabulous food and presentation. Our son was getting married and we searched and searched for a caterer. Paid a few hundred dollars for tastings that were terrible from other bay area vendors. Allison came to our home and cooked for us (very convenient). We were extremely pleased with their service, presentation and most importantly the food. The food is incredible! Usually, when you go to a tasting you might like one or two items. We loved everything served by Simply Catered. We hired them for the rehearsal dinner, wedding and then a BBQ. This family owned business will be our ONLY caterer. Alison and Greg have family recipes that are amazing! She is very organized and has a detailed checklist. Their prices are GREAT and their presentations are BEAUTIFUL! We chose plated service for the wedding. Our son did not want buffet style. We did do buffet for the rehearsal and BBQ. Both services are excellent. All events were at our home. Everything was cleaned perfectly by the end of each evening. Our menu was: Chicken Cacciatore (my favorite) And I was given the secret recipe! Tri-tip with a whiskey peppercorn sauce (my other favorite) Parmesan crusted red potatoes (our family is still talking about these potatoes) grilled mixed veggies (PERFECTLY done, NOT overcooked) summer salad with strawberries, red onion, avacado and glazed walnuts topped with a Raspberry vinaigrette(Those walnuts were incredible) We chose fresh fruit and ceviche for cocktail hour. Their presentation looked like we were at a fancy winery. Both were presented beautifully and the ceviche was by far the best I have ever had. Rehearsal Dinner Menu: Slider bar, pulled pork and beef sliders and all the fixings Baked Macaroni Cheese (OMG!) BBQ Menu: Pulled pork sandwiches (We love their pulled pork) Hot links and Kielbasa smoked bacon and cheddar mashed potatoes (Must try this-YUM)! Corn on the cob with a shallot butter-grilled (Corn picked that same day locally in Brentwood)! Caesar salad with homemade croutons and dressing! The next time we have them cater we will have their Lasagna. Heard it was to die for! In fact I trust them enough to tell Alison to surprise us. I know it will be excellent. If I could give 0 stars I would. Let me start by saying the caterer had a heart attack the day of my sons wedding. I am sorry for her, but with that said they should have had a backup plan (especially in light of Covid). We received a text from their daughter, who we have never dealt with before, stating they were canceling their service at 3:30am the day of the wedding. By 7:30am the husband said he would provide service. Our contract stated we were to have options for drinks, an appetizer hour, and surf and turf for dinner. When I got to the venue at 2:30 (wedding started at 4) NOTHING was set up. The tables and chairs had been dropped off the day before by a 3rd party they hired. They didn't provide water, let alone options. Ultimately, the caterer never showed. Although he did send 4 random young girls that were clearly not qualified to handle this wedding. I had to have guests play "bartender". I had to have guests go to the local grocery store and buy water! The one charcuterie board they provided was enough to serve 30 people not 100+. By 6:00 when dinner was supposed to be served we had to order pizza! After disputing the charges with our credit card they had the audacity to say they provided the service when they clearly know they did not. Luckily, my husband is an attorney and we will be filing a lawsuit. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CATERER. SO UNPROFESSIONAL! read more

Alison and Greg and all of their staff are the best!!!!! They are the most professional, yet personable people you will ever meet. We were so lucky to have Simply Catered at our wedding celebration. We had an intimate cocktail party with 70+ people. We really wanted a comfortable, but high end vibe. With the help of Simply Catered, we accomplished just that. We had about 10 different hot passed apps and app stations. It's hard to keep the kitchen moving and keep that many people happy! But they did an amazing job! I can't tell you how many people came up to me at the wedding and still weeks later are raving about the food. AND how nice the whole crew at Simply Catered is! We really strived to only include people in our wedding party/reception that had a nice honest vibe - and we scored a home run when we choose Alison and Greg. Do yourself a favor and don't look anywhere else - We went to several tasting and talked with a lot of caterers that were okay.... but lacked the heart and soul of Simply Catered. My parents chose Simply Catered for their 65th wedding anniversary and 85th birthdays party. The folks at Simply Catered did an outstanding job for such a special occasion. The food was delicious, the presentation was lovely. They were very attentive to the guests and made sure they had food and that things were kept cleaned up. My experience with Simply Catered for my wedding was nerve racking and made for an awful planning process. We considered the possibility of losing our deposit (several thousand dollars) and moving on but ultimately the deposit was too big and the wedding was too close. Beyond the planning process some of the issues we experienced during the wedding summarized: -Simply and most importantly the food was cold and not good- the food provided at the tasting was much better in our opinion -Service was awful. Half the room was done eating when the other half was still waiting to be served. -Clean up was not ideal. The servers were collecting glassware at one of the occupied guest tables while they were out dancing. The guest sitting there had to find a different place to sit because it had rudely become a busing table. A busing bin can be seen on the table in some of our reception pictures as people dance. Naturally no original contract is perfect and things are going to need to be added but I would have preferred for the original contract to have been more representative of what was needed especially from a budget planning perspective and when selecting a caterer. Update- Since my original post Simply Catered has threatened litigation. The review above is my honest opinion and experience with Simply Catered. read more

My husband and I are total foodies. We chose Simply Catered to cater our April wedding at Piedmont Park for two reasons: Alison's attention to detail and Greg's culinary wizardry. From the first meeting with Alison, I knew I wouldn't have to worry about any of the details that were important to me as a bride. Alison is very thorough. She reviewed my requests several times to make sure we were on the same page, right up to two days before the wedding. I did not have to worry on my wedding day whether everything would be handled. I trusted Alison would pull it off and she did. Now, let's talk food. I insisted on red meat at the reception because my husband and I are card carrying carnivores. Greg won us over with his succulent tri-tip with peppercorn sauce. It was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender with a light pink center. The sauce was velvety and smooth. The perfect complement to tri-tip. Oh, and the gorgonzola mashed potatoes! TDF..to die for! The potatoes were creamy and my husband couldn't stop talking about the "crunchy" gorgonzola topping. For vegetables, we chose green beans almondine which even our young nieces loved! We did have some vegetarian guests at the wedding. Greg made them a delicious pesto pasta, which they raved about. Alison suggested the nieces have chicken fingers and mashed potatoes with the green beans. They were delighted to have "grown up" food and not french fries! Ha! Everything was just great! From our pre-cocktail hour champagne reception (while we took pictures) to delicious 60's style hors d'oeuvres ..deviled eggs, bacon wrapped water chestnuts and mmmmmm...meatballs to fantastic classic signature cocktails. Simply Catered had the timing down, during our three location changes. The staff was very friendly, professional, and all wore huge smiles. Alison packed take home boxes of food for us since we knew we would be hungry at midnight and they made the wedding party a cheese plate while we got ready! Bottom line: Great attention to detail, fantastic food and a great value. Believe me, I shopped around and went to several tastings. I was planning my own event and I had a bunch of questions because I have always prepared events myself. This time I wanted to rely on someone else. The price was right, the food options were exactly what I was looking for and communication was perfect. I was able to do the whole thing via email which was simple. A couple days before the event she confirmed she would be at my home and she was, on time and prepared. The food looked amazing and colorful! It was also fresh and delicious. My mother passed away unexpectedly and my family and I wanted a nice catered memorial service for her, however the problem was we only had 5 days to plan this. We called several caterers in the Brentwood area and all were unwilling to help with such short notice. When I spoke with Allison at Simply Catered she also was busy with other events the day we needed her, however she heard the panic in my voice and was able to come to our rescue. Simply Catered was the caterer for my 50-person wedding a month ago and they did a fabulous job. Because we were on a very tight budget I was unable to hire a wedding planner or day-of coordinator and Alison took on those roles in addition to setting everything up in terms of food and table decor. She and her husband even picked up the alcohol and flowers from my home! When I walked in to the reception venue the place looked beautiful and the food was delicious. They took care of all of the details and I didn't have to worry about anything. The guests all had an amazing time and were constantly complimenting the decor and food. In addition, Alison and her husband were really great to work with and are really friendly. Despite the fact that my wedding was in SF (and they are all the way in Brentwood) they drove all the way out to the venue a week before to take a look and plan everything. They really did an amazing job and the prices were really great. I could not have asked for better service or food. We hired Simply Catered to cater our wedding of 110 guests. PROS: - Food was tasty, light and fresh (not mouth watering, but good) - Staff was friendly and professional - Simply Catered cooked at our house for the tasting - very convenient! - Alison was communicative and responsive CONS: - We had coordinated our site visit to accommodate the chef's schedule. At the site visit, Alison showed up and said that he was tied up at another event and couldn't make it. - On the wedding rehearsal the day before the wedding, Alison told our venue that they'd like to cook IN the kitchen of our venue; instead of outside like we had originally planned. Alison told our venue that I said it was okay...which I never said. - An hour before our ceremony began, one of the bartenders told our groomsmen and my husband that they needed 10 more bags of ice, and asked them to go to Safeway to but it. WTF?!?! Umm...I'm paying Simply Catered to take care of this, and they ask my wedding party to go buy it?! - We had an open bar at our reception, and we were able to bring our own alcohol and beverages. Alison told me that we needed to provide all the garnishes, pour bottles, and spouts?! She said that the only thing Simply Catered would provide are the bartenders...literaly. Again, WTF?! So we had to go to Bevmo to buy all the salt for the margaritas, cherries, lemons, limes, etc. I have friends in the wedding planning business (and I'm an event planner myself), and none of us have ever heard of such a thing. So freakin' cheap... Overall, the pros outweighed the cons. I truly want to see small family-owned businesses like Simply Catered succeed (that's why we decided to work with them in the first place instead of more corporate, established caterers), but they should keep in mind that it's a very competitive industry and they need to go above and beyond to acquire new and keep existing customers. read more

Simply Catered is the best! They catered my wedding last month and everything was wonderful. The seated dinner for 130 went smoothly and the food was great! The presenation for the appetizer and dessert tables was beautiful as well. Alison is very responsive and was always happy to answer my Mom and my many questions. Let me begin by giving detail to the situation. My wife and I got married back in August and chose Simply Catered to cater our backyard wedding. My wife and I decided to save in some areas but wanted to go elegant with the food among a few other areas of the event. From the start we felt comfortable working with Simply catered as they were flexible and understanding. What was extremely important to me personally was the display and the taste of the food. I was impressed with the first food tasting which displayed a very elegant look and tasted great. There were plenty of options to choose from so my wife and I decided to pay for a second food tasting so we had more variety to choose from for the event, and again we were very impressed. Of course the more important part of this review is the event catering itself. Simply catered did not fall short of perfect for our big day. On time and with ample staff, simply catered had no hiccups during the event. We didn't have a wedding coordinator, we did not host at an event venue, instead my wife and I decided to have our wedding at our house and one of the best and most talked about areas of the wedding was indeed the food. Everything tasted so great and the staff was professional and very helpful with any instruction that we had. My wife and I would like to send a special thank you to Simply Catered for making our day tasty and elegant. I am happy to give a raving review to Simply Catered! They did a fantastic job for my daughter's wedding. We rented a community center, so everything needed to be brought it. They set a beautiful table, did a lovely job with the napkins, and made everything look better than what I imagined it would be for our 80 guests. Their staff was quick, responsive and very helpful. Alison and Greg worked with us beforehand to give us the menu we wanted. They were very patient about our changes and ideas. They even made a visit to the venue weeks before the wedding. My daughter is a vegetarian, so we chose some unique dishes. I received very many compliments on the meal during and after the wedding. I was a little afraid about not serving meat, but really it turned out to be a big hit. The dishes were flavorful and not your typical wedding entrée. The passed around spring roll appetizers were also a favorite of several guests. I trusted Simply Catered to take over for me so I could enjoy myself, and I was not disappointed. They arrived promptly, worked quickly to set everything up, served us graciously and stayed to the very end for the clean-up. Alison managed the event with ease. Alison and Greg catered our daughter's wedding last month. These guys are AMAZING! The wedding was at a private home in Disco Bay....on the day of the gas outage! They didn't miss a beat though...Greg had to leave to cook the food and bring it back. They are calm, cool and totally in control! I didn't even know about it until later!
