This company sent (unsolicited) two young men in hard hats, reflective vests, badges, and clipboards to my home shortly after I bought it back in 2010 to "do a maintenance check" on my existing water heater which was working great, actually better, than the one they convinced me I needed to replace it with. This unit would be roughly $2000 if I bought it myself from a company but they scammed me into a contract that has me still paying for it now in 2023 (64.27/mo) I have payed over $10,000 in fees for this water heater and the company has done nothing but bill me. If I call to complain and cancel the contract, my only option is to pay off whatever sum they determine is left on my bill. I am now looking to a class action lawsuit against the companies involved, including the companies who have purchased the fraudulent contracts and ask anyone here who has been taken advantage of by this scam to reach out to me and join me in shutting these businesses down and reclaiming the money they have extorted from us. They have been protected under certain business laws in Canada but we agreed to these contracts under false pretences and the exorbitant fees which are completely out of line to both the products and service they claim to provide. There is no clear business practice where the customer can follow the money or see their account payment history. They are hand-cuffing customers to illegal contracts and forcing obscene payouts to get out of them. This company is now owned or run by by Crown Crest Financial and it is still the scam it always has been. They have no customer facing website that allows you to review your bill or statements or current lease status. I spoke to them over he phone (so 1990's) in order to try to get my billing and statement info and all they can do is email it... REALLY!! This is a shell company and is not a customer centric entity. You will at least triple the cost for any unit you lease and they will provide minimal service. Any time a service tech came they would constantly try to upsell even though equipment isn't necessary. They are the absolutely worst company one can have dealings with. When the monthly charges were included on the Enbridge monthly bill, for several months they would call demanding payment, and when pointed out all payments were current (all paid via Enbridge monthly invoices) they denied it! There are two major consumer class action lawsuites filed in Ontario against them At least, three CBC Consumer watch programs that depict the various nefarious tactics used to deceive people because of their dishonest and disreputable practices - literally hundreds, may thousands of Better Business Bureaus complains! We had a gas furnace installed by them when we bought our house, first off they installed the wrong size furnace for our square footage, second they did not do the maintenance yearly as stated they would, thirdly when we did call them they only made issues worse with it, and last we cannot get out of the contract! WARNING This company is THE WORST in Canada. February 2016 Gas inspector requested the rental water heater from Simply Comfort to be replaced. The technician asked me to sign a new contract. Because the new water heater is more expensive or to pay $2200 to cancel the contract for the old. So I decided to to replace the heater. Unfortunately he DID NOT cancel the payments for the old water heater and I have been paying for two water heaters until 2023 with my gas bill without knowing that. January 2023 I payed a buyout quote $5257.08. Keep in mind I already payed $4150 during the years. This is just for one water heater. Thinking that the billing for the water heater will stop. Reliance bought Simply Comfort 2029. Including the contracts. So Simply Comfort sold the contract for the NON EXISTING water heater to Reliance. And I have been paying them too. Until now $2184.56. From January 2023 to September 2023 I have been trying to solve the problem with them. Abdul Samad from Simply Comfort replied to me: "I tried to discuss your case with the team, however as both accounts are closed on our end we cannot do much." Karen Bisson from Reliance answer is: "As per our conversation, we acquired Simply Green in 2019-08-03. As of this day they should have STOPPED billing you." And Reliance is still billing me until now. I'm looking for a lawyer now. From 2016 to 2023 I payed $11'591.64 for water heater that is $1500 at home depot. read more

I haven't had a contract with simply comfort, crown crest or reliance for a water softener but I have all 3 bugging me to pay. simply comfort has been putting it on my Enbridge bill and so was reliance. Double dipping. Reliance is bugging me for money for the softener which I refuse to pay now. I just received in the mail from crown crest asking for money now too for a water softener. unbelievable these crooked company's are and I'm sure they've all got liens against our mortgage too which is a crime in itself. Reliance apparently took over all these scam company's. Haha so they want me to pay 3 places for a water softener. There is a lawsuit against crown crest but the lawsuit should be against Reliance as well since they took over both crime company's. I will try and post it. These crooked company's need to be taken down which I'm sure they are being monitored and they will be held accountable for their actions against innocent people. As the other reviews mention this company is predatory and ruthless. They will not accommodate buyouts which is illegal - what they will do is promise you a buy-out package in 4-5 days, and nothing will ever come, forcing you to call them again and again and again. Another startling revelation is that they do not value privacy- I had asked to see contracts that I signed back in 2015 (yes I've been trapped in rentals with them since 2015) and I was emailed a complete strangers contract and personal information by mistake I'm guessing. This alone should warrant legal action. If you are in the market for a water heater, air conditioner, furnace, look to alternative routes and strongly consider buying. My parents are out tens of thousands of dollars and have nothing to show for it. read more

DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. Their rent-to-own contracts include a clause that allows them to raise the rental fee by 3.5% annually, the buy-out is more expensive than the unit itself, and they put a title search on your house (meaning you can't sell the house unless the new owners agree to pick up the contract or you pay the buy-out fee. Buyer beware. Just get a water softener from Home Depot and definitely don't get any other services from them. read more

Several months after a recent move, we received two invoices and several harassing phone messages from Crown Crest Financial, which now owns Simply Comfort. Consistent with the "invoice first, ask questions later" approach that others have complained about with this company, they were invoicing both us and the new owners of our former residence for the same device, probably hoping each would see the invoice and just pay it. We later figured out they had been raising the monthly fee at about four times the rate of inflation (it turns out the fine print of the contract allows them to raise the fee whenever and however much they want to), for about 8 years. Far more importantly though, the two invoices made us realize that the company had actually been billing us for two water heaters for over three years, even though we only had one device in the house. This excess billing totaled over $1,400. (The charges appeared lumped together on the main page of our utility bill as "Charges from other companies," with the two charges only broken down on the last page of the bill.) When we finally reached a live voice, we asked him to provide the contract that these payments were based on, citing the invoice number they had provided earlier. While he did provide the first contract for the water heater that was actually in the house, he admitted that he could not find a contract for the second. He initiated an "investigation" and promised to get back within 48 hours. Nearly two weeks later, having heard nothing from them, we emailed and then called. They responded by merely providing us once again with the first contract. When we emailed back that we wanted the contract that was basis for the second set of payments (again citing the invoice # for reference), we received no response. After a fourth round of calls/emails, and a fourth time going over everything from the beginning, they committed to have the billing department refund the excess charges. They steadfastly refused to commit to any time period in which that this would happen, or when we would hear from them on this. That was over a month ago and we've received nothing, despite a fifth call where they again promised to send a refund. I've seen other complaints about this company's stealth invoicing practices on this and other sites. Sounds like an excellent candidate for a class action suit. read more

Just another typical work from home Wednesday, and these two random guys show up at my door expecting to inspect my new home... They claimed to represent Simply Comfort (and I actually believe them). They claimed I should've received a letter in the mail informing me of the inspection, which I did not. To the management team at Simply Comfort: please stop sending these unsolicited home inspectors! At least have the courtesy of calling to make an appointment. It's not pleasant especially when your staff doesn't seem to take 'No' for an answer gracefully. Who on earth would feel comfortable letting a bunch of strangers into their home for "home inspections"?? read more

DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!!! after the initial consultation and signing, the company has been a nightmare to deal with. From the duct work install that was supposed to be completed in 5 days that took a month. To the mess they made in my house. They say free installation but do not tell you until after the furnace and AC are in your house that there is a hefty charge to connect it to the electrical panel. Between dispatch and staff, no one knows why they are coming to my house until they arrive and are often confused as to why the work has not yet been completed. Update: Since writing this review, Simply Comfort has contacted me regarding my experience and we have come to an agreeable reconciliation. SCAM: This company is a big time scam. Don't let them enter in your house. They'll inspect your working HVAC system and break it. When you'll call them back guess what there is a charge (they'll deny if there is any tampering) and on the top of that, they'll compel you to rent out stuff from them because your old one is of the worst kind. If you say "NO" there is a red tag waiting for you. So you have to call someone else to get it removed. Here is the funny thing this guy named Shikhman (ID 880016) gave me the red tag saying there is fire coming out of my furnace and on the tag he wrote it as a heat exchanger is broken when I refused to rent out their product. He didn't run any test like CO emission or anything. The guy who removed it took an hour to inspect if everything is okay. Don't deal with them or else you'll be stuck in their vicious circle. read more

Complete and Total Scam! They promise all of these things and don't deliver. The guy who came in to install my nest thermostat was a total crook. I blame nest for having them in the options for quote. Too good to be true. He said the nest thermostat on their plan including free replacement would be $5 a month. and then recommended year furnace and A/C maintenance for $20 a month each. $240 a year to have both serviced ( I thought what a great price.) Called for my first service a year later. took 4 phone calls to book a service. Then missed 4 hours of work while I waited for them to show up. then got a phone call saying they forgot to book my appointment. told me they were going to be there within 30 minutes. waited another 90 with no show so I went back to work. then they show up! and get mad at me for not being there. I call saying I want out of my program and they say sure 100% of remaining balance due $1695 after taxes! they are insane. I explain to them that no service has been performed so the transaction has not been completed and they flat out refuse to refund my money. Do not let these people into your house!! read more

I am very disappointed with Simply Comfort. I am renting a water softener and pay $50 each month. I decided to cancel the service to reduce my expense. I called the company and they told me that they will not cancel it. I have to pay for 9 remaining years because I signed a contract. When I asked to show me a copy of my confirmation, they refused to play a voice record and also didn't send copy by email as promised. It is a trap. The person who sold it didn't explain the whole situation and I am really mad. NEVER sign with Simply Comfort, you will pay thousands of dollars more and will be stacked with them for 10 years. read more

I NEVER signed a contract with this company yet am forced through the gas company to pay them monthly. 10 YEARS to buy a $800 heater for a total of $3000. Unbelievable. I have contacted the company numerous times, explained I have no contract, told them to come pick their heater up etc etc. They give me lip service and then nothing gets done, nobody with any authority calls back and I have to start over each time with customer service. $8000 TO REMOVE A $3600 LIEN FROM OUR HOME!!! The equipment works well but we just found out a year later that your company has put a lien on our house, which is causing much grief with another house we are in the process of buying! You put liens on people's homes in such a shady manner, it is disgraceful! If this must be done, why can't you be upfront about it? I'm sure you probably slipped it in somewhere in your contract but that thing is in difficult legal language! Your agents should upfront about it and advise that yes, to get manageable monthly payments, we have to protect the company's interest by putting a lien on your property. Why can't they say it outright? I find your practices shady and now we are between a rock and a hard spot as we are about to close in our new home but cannot satisfy the lenders stipulation of no encumbrance! Update: the lien on our property was registered for $3600. My husband called today to find out how much is left to pay off so our mortgage can go through, and we were told $8000!!! Are you serious?? Had to wait 72 hours without heat in the middle of January to have the furnace fixed, and that's AFTER a repairman already came and "fixed" it. Mind you, the furnace worked intermittently and managed to keep the house around 20*C before we filed a service request, but after the visit it failed completely and they couldn't get a repairman back for 3 days. read more

I wish I would've read these reviews before committing to this horrible company!!!! Every negative review is totally correct! Bought this house a couple of years ago and unfortunately agreed to take over the (10,000 dollar) furnace without reading the fine print. Upon inspection of it they said we needed a new air conditioner. The original one was very old so we agreed to a new one seeing that it too was a Lennox (I've always felt to be reliable) and they would keep it maintained free of charge blah blah blah. Went to turn it on last week and it did not work. They were supposed to be here last Friday but rescheduled to today. Electrician came and said an air tech would have to look at it because it is the unit itself that is broken (this is our first time using it..it's only 3 months old) Been on the phone on and off all day and constantly waiting on hold and having to explain our situation over and over again....to be told someone cannot get here until Wednesday! I read the message that was posted by this company earlier on this site stating that they care about their customers, available 24-7 and will get to their customers right away. What a load of crap!!! Feeling deceived by sketchy tactics... Simply Comfort isn't all that they claim to be. I am a new homeowner. I received a knock on my door at about 5:30 this evening and answered the door to two smiling faces (Derek and Taijon). They were from Simply Comfort and they were there to do the final inspection of my furnace to close out the previous homeowner's account. They had the homeowners names correctly and the date that they said they had attempted to do the final inspection was also the closing date of the house. It made sense. I had no reason not to believe them. I let them inside. They came into the basement and inspected the furnace and the hot water tank. Seemed to be very knowledgable. They knew their stuff. We went back upstairs and they gave me recommendations on what to do with my hot water tank, as well as a water softener and their peace of mind maintenance service. I was impressed. I wanted to run it by my wife when she got home, but as far as I was concerned, I would call them the next day to sign up for their services. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is. I am friends with the previous homeowners of my house. I dropped them a line to see what they thought of Simply Comfort and make sure they were happy with them for the past years of service that they'd had. I was shocked to hear that they had never hired Simply Comfort for any service whatsoever in the decade that they had lived here. Simply Comfort had somehow gotten ahold of the previous homeowner's full names and the date that we had closed the deal on our house and used that as bait to get inside my front door and try to sell me on their service. How do I know that it's not just a coincidence? Or that the previous homeowners may have hired Simply Comfort operating under a different name? Because they have only worked with one HVAC repair man who they highly recommend AND because last weekend, Simply Comfort came to their front door to pull the same scam to them. I feel deceived and pissed off. For a company that is selling you peace of mind, this is a dirty tactic. I went from being ready to throw them hundreds of dollars a year to not trusting them at all. A simple Google search of "simply comfort home services" comes up with first page results of "Beware tricksters behind water heater fraud" and "Door-to-door scam artists." I noticed my hvac wasn't working around the end of September/ first October when I first put the heat on. It took four calls before a technician was sent to the house. The hvac needed a part that had to be ordered. A few days after that someone showed up at my door to fix it. I got no phone call and it wasn't a good time and told him it wasn't a good time. The man was very rude and said he was busy and he didn't know when he would be back. After that happened I received four different calls with the same bs "sorry for what happened and you will receive a call for us 24 to 48 hours to set up a date. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. Then I got the run around, call this number, call that number. I had enough and lost it. If this matter isn't taken care of I will go to my lawyer. This company is absolutely ridiculous and should not be allowed to exist. I asked for a buy out on my hvac and AC and the buyout if $1000s more then the original cost. This is after the salesman said I could pay them off at any time to avoid interest. Not only are my hvac and AC with this company but so is my maintenance plan and they aren't coming out to clean my furnace either. They have gone against the signed contract and haven't cleaned my hvac or AC. What a mistake this company is. read more

BAD MISREPRESENTATION: The sales guy from Simply Comfort came 3 times and wouldn't leave unless he was given an opportunity to show his water softener info. At first he said the installation of the unit would be $36 / month but then when the bill came it was $64.61 per month! The sales guy said you could get out of the rental agreement at any time but what he failed to tell you was that the rental was for a minimum of 10 yrs at $64.61 / month! Then you found out to break the rental you would have to pay Simply Comfort the rest of the monthly payments up to 10 yrs! The sales guy was not upfront on the terms of the rental. He never mentioned a 10 yr rental term that was irrevocable! Further the guy came back another two times claiming my furnace pipes were illegal. I told him Enbridge would never install illegal pipes. He kept on that they were not up to a "new standard." I told him, I'm not interested as the furnace was just newly replaced! read more

I bought a house with water heater and softener and furnace .I knew it will be penalty to cancel but wasn't expect it has a term called "lease to own" which means you either pay lum sum to buy or you pay by term! And it is much more expensive than what they suppose to be. All 3 cost me about 15,000 for the remaining. Believe me or not, my dad works as a construction worker he told all three only cost couple thousand. So, if you don't mind withdrawal more $ from your pocket, go head. We ended up purchasing the Nest thermostat, which they installed; we are very satisfied with the service and the Thermostat. Its adjustable on the web via the web site: home.nest.com or from your mobile using the Nest app. Too when no one is home the unit adjusts to a comfortable level factoring in the outside temperature. Its a good unit, I would recommend it to friends. read more

Rented a tankless hot water unit from simply comfort 4 yr ago on a 10 yr term. It was expensive but i sought and received a 10 yr price guarantee (ie no price increase over the term) I requested it in writing which i received. No matter as they have taken a price increase with out notice and have not responded to emails and phone calls. In fact the "billing" number on the enbridge bill does not work and a recording states "this number is unable to accept incoming calls" I have no recourse but to take them to small claims court - a waste of time for everyone.... read more

DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THESE PEOPLE TELL YOU! My husband and I recently moved into our new home. Yesterday evening 2 guys (Samir and Sanjeev) came to our door from Simply Comfort and said that they were there to do a final inspection for liability purposes of the furnace and water heater to close out the previous homeowner's account. They said the previous homeowners had a water softener on a rent-to-own plan that had already been removed and the previous homeowners had taken it with them. We said we had no information about the previous account and that the previous homeowners hadn't mentioned anything about this to us. The guys said that the previous homeowners were supposed to call them just before they moved to close off the account but didn't do that so that's why there were there. We questioned them and they confirmed that they were there to simply close off an account and not sign us up with anything new. We believed them and let them into our house. My husband accompanied them to the basement where they did a 24 point inspection. When they came back upstairs, they spoke to the both of us trying to recommend taking on service for a water softener since that's what the previous homeowners had and that the bill would be charged straight through our existing Enbridge bill. They continued trying to talk us into another maintenance package. We both said we would think about it and said if we decided to then we would call and set up the service. After they left we contacted the previous homeowners and they had said they never had a water softener installed/uninstalled, let alone any services at all with Simply Comfort. They said it was a pure scam and had actually pulled the same scam on them when they moved into the same house years ago and into their new house when they moved. I called the Simply Comfort customer service line and spoke to rep to complain that they had reps coming to our house lying about previously existing services and had specified that they were at our house to close off an account with the previous homeowner for liability purposes. The sales rep asked for the names of the guys who came to our house so that they could let the manager of that area know so that it doesn't happen again. When I provided the name, the sale rep seemed to be familiar with Samir and didn't seem as concerned as I was, as if he was part of the scam. The sales rep couldn't seem to keep his story together, he said that the reps who came to the house probably saw that the house was recently sold and decided to do a complimentary inspection, then he said that the previous homeowners probably had a water softener that was installed that they had taken with them when they moved, even after I told him that I spoke with the previous homeowners and they confirmed they had no previous services from Simply Comfort or any water softener. The amount of effort these people put to scam homeowners is incredible. It's a good thing we have a good relationship with the previous homeowners and was able to ask them if they had services with Simply Comfort, we were able to unravel their lie and hopefully help others from becoming victims of their scams. read more

I purchased new furnace and new tankless water heater from Simply Comfort in October 2015. Their Sale was friendly and their Technician seemed knowledgeable. The contracts I signed were similar to a"Lease to Own" kind of contract. It is split into 120 payments and then I will own the appliances. The lease price is way more than buying it up front. They charged you high for the finance need. However, the Sale person never explained to me that they will increase that lease price year by year (this year they increase it by 3%). The lease contract includes a yearly inspection but you have to take initiative to call them to come. The technician who came scared me that my air con is not OK (leaking water in certain part0, my water is too hard and you need new air con and water softener, etc. They just wanted to sell. I ended up have to hire another technician to give me second opinion and found out that all those are not necessary. If you lease to own a car, the car company will not put up the lease price every year. I work in finance field and I do not understand their logic. You really have to read all the tiny print details on the contract before you sign. Don't rely on the Sale to explain it to you. I gave them a rating 2 because Lennox appliances are of good quality. I personally would not recommend this supplier to my friends or relatives. read more

Simply Comfort manipulates their customers. I wanted someone to repair my existing A/C and the person who came to my house told me I needed to replace my 11 year old A/C with a new one from Simply Comfort. I was offered a contract with payments of $89.99 plus tax for 120 months or ten years that included no additional payments for parts and maintenance while I was making the payments. I was insured my monthly payments would not increase because I would be paying over $12,000 after I made all 120 monthly payments for an A/C worth $4,500 if I chose to paid for it in full at the time of installation. Recently, Simply Comply decided to outsource its billing without the knowledge of its customers to an affiliate company called Crown Crest Capital (CCC) and CCC instantly decided to increase my monthly rate by 3.99% according to the fine print on my contract. This company is such a scam. I just found out when my mother passed away in January 2018 and was going through the finances with my step-dad. He had no idea who they were paying almost $180.00 a month through their bank until i checked on google and came up with this company. Apparently in 2014 two salesmen came to my parents house and talked them into buying a furnace and water tank on monthly payments. 120 months 10 years. which works out to $22,000.00 or do the buyout now. $5,000 for water tank and $9200.00 for furnace. In 2014 my step-dad had a stroke and i no my mom was stressed and dealing with her own health issues. I just called customer service and they said nothing could be done. they said that they dont deal with people over 75. My mom and step-dad were 72 at the time. I feel that they took advantage of them and i'm sure they weren't the only ones. Now with my mom being gone, my step-dad is living on a single fixed income. No way can he afford this payment every month untit 2024. I am so disgusted with these people. I am livid and frustrated that this is happening.
