The cake was incredibly moist, and what we loved most was that it wasn't overly sweet, perfectly balanced and truly delicious. Simply Delish absolutely nailed it. Vonnie, the owner, was wonderful to work with, so kind, responsive, and easy throughout the entire process. You can really tell this is handcrafted with care and pride. Updating my review because I went to visit Vonnie to pick up her sweet treats and be STILL my heart her chocolate covered strawberries are absolutely mouth watering!!! It was hard to just grab those are NOT a cupcake but you know, we had to do what we had to do!!! After all this is the best bakery in town! Vonnie is always working and such an amazing baker because not only does she do her own DELICIOUS creations but she does these intricate decedent wedding cakes and I'm just in awe at her artistry skills and the fact she basically runs this bakery! She is so very talented and you won't find better than her, she's amazing and the SWEETEST! The Ambiance since we usually pick up is very nice and air conditioned and smells AMAZING. Vonnie is amazing!! My cake baker backed out 1 week before our wedding due to an unexpected illness. Needless to say I was extremely frazzled. We made a few calls and Vonnie checked her calendar and confirmed she was available. She fit us in for a tasting a couple of days later and we couldn't have been happier with the flavors of all of her cakes and cupcakes. She provided me with the exact same cake as our original baker, as well as cupcakes and cookies that we didn't have in our original plan. I live in Salt Lake City and at age 92 was not able to travel to Sonora to celebrate my sister Ellen's 100th birthday party. So I called Simply Delish and asked Yvonne if she could bake a special cake for a small party. I asked if Vonnie could get some stand-up characters "100" and flat in front "WOW." It was a lemon cake and it not only had the characters as suggested but also a surrounding of fresh flowers. Ellen's son, Terry, pointed out that "WOW" upside down said "MOM." My niece, Cheryl, said that the cake was the star of the party and my sister just sat and stared at it. And Cheryl said that it was the best lemon cake she had ever tasted. We ordered an assortment of cupcakes for my son's birthday. The woman I spoke to was nice, patient and set aside the cupcakes for us to pick up later that day. The lower rating is actually due to the flavor/texture of the cupcakes. Several cupcakes had frosting that tasted like soap, like soap accidentally got into the frosting (because i cant imagine it was intentional). I couldn't tell if the soap flavor came from the batter at all, but it was definitely in the frosting in some of the cupcakes. ~$42 for 12 cupcakes, but because of the soapy flavor, we ended up throwing away half of them because the kids wouldn't eat it, and I can't blame them. My experience with this shop and owner is very positive. She was polite and very knowledgeable. She helped us figure out what we needed for our two year olds birthday. She was even able to double our cupcakes when we had quite a few more guests than originally thought. Communication was simple when needed. The picture for our theme was BEAUTIFULLY recreated on the cake and cupcakes. Many adults said how delicious the dessert was. STAY AWAY! Just a warning for anyone planning a wedding and thinking of choosing simply delish. We researched the greater Sonora area for a great cake and cupcake bakery for our wedding. We sadly went with Simply Delish based on the raving reviews we found online. We scheduled a tasting, picked our flavors, picked our look and provided photos of the 3 teired design of butter cream that we had in mind and include a few hundred cupcakes as well ( total estimate of $1,655) . We met several times between the tasting and wedding date with no concerns. When the week of the wedding rolled around, we recieved an email requesting the pictures we showed during the tasting. We happily responded with the pictures and got a response back that the pictures were not what was discussed at the tasting and that they would provide a design that was fitting of the price we paid!! (paraphrased). On the day of the wedding the cake was delivered/dropped off at the venue and we were suprised to find out that we basically got a 3 tiered walmart qulity cake. It was so upsetting seeing the cake that didnt follow the wedding colors provided, detail provided or any portion of what we wanted, that we neither cut nor served the cake (I know its a huge waste but we didnt want pictures or any part of this randomly made cake to be included in our special event and only used the cupcakes). After the wedding we contacted simply delish and informed them that the cake did meet any terms of the agreement (color or design) and let them know we can deliver the unused cake to them or they can pick it up. She let us know that they dont except any cakes back and they actually insulted my wife calling her "childish" in her ability to communicate and choice of wedding cake design was like a "clown cake". (We had a fairytail theme wedding, what they made looked like a clown cake and looked nothing like we requested). I asked since we were not happy with the cake and that the cake look was not met, that we pay the full amount for the cupcakes and requested that the remaining $570.00 cost of the cake be fully or partially refunded. She refused to accomodate us on any refund for the cake and let us know her lawyer will be ready for us!! Very unprofessional and horrible way to do business. read more

It was 3pm on a lonely Monday afternoon. A lone, brave husband ventures out into the wild, in search of a birthday cake for his wife. But not just any birthday cake.... A gluten-free birthday cake. As goes without saying, my fellow men, failure is not an option. Mission critical. Time is of the essence. The cold embrace of the living room couch surely awaited me, should I fail. Like Frodo Baggins of the Shire, I embarked on my quest without knowing if I should ever return. A life-saving Google search put me in contact with Simply Delish. I called, and by the Gods, they had Gluten free Cake, available on a variety of flavors and colors. The woman whom I spoke with was very friendly and accommodating. I quickly made my decision- an 8 inch Birthday cake, in the Colors of our own House, with a chocolate raspberry filling. Then, by the old Gods and the New, I remembered my Mother in law and Niece are allergic to raspberries! Seven hells! I called without haste, and avoided a most unwelcome disaster. I switched to a chocolate cake with vanilla bean custard filling. I prayed to the Gods to help this cake not only be pleasing to the eye, and to the tongue, but to the very soul. The next day I picked up the cake and I was amazed to see that the cake was stunningly beautiful. I mounted my horse and made the journey back home, cake in tow under my cloak. Yes the cake was as beautiful, but all the seven kingdoms knew that most Gluten free pastries are about as tasty as fresh horse droppings. My Grandmother in law asked me if I had fetched a cake for the days festivities. Her face scoured and she gave me a look as if she were telling me to fall on my own sword after I told her it was Gluten free. Surely, in that moment, I felt our couches hot sweaty hands tighten its grip around my throat and pull me ever closer to its unforgiving bosom. I laughed it off, and told her- Sweet, sweet Grandmother in law....fear not. For Sir Omie of Cedar Ridge has the situation under his control. But beneath my strong reserve, little did she know, I had already shat in my pantaloons from the sheer fright of serving my wife a cake unworthy of the Gods. The time to cut the cake had arrived. I brandished my cold steel, and submitted my blade to my wife, surrendering my fate along with it. As she cut into the cake I imagined her pushing the blade into my very heart with the same look of joy. The cake opened, and I could see the rich dark layers, in stark contrast to the shining white vanilla bean custard filling, bright as the morning sun shining down onto a fresh spring meadow. The children were the first poor souls to taste the cake. They were pleased, but honestly, what child is not happy with any cake pushed in front of their face? The wife was next. She tasted the cake, and a look of pure satisfaction came over her, and I knew my life was spared, and my head would remain on my shoulders....until the same time next year. And what of my Grandmother in law, you may be asking? She enjoyed it as well, and her look of approval, and her second helping of cake, cemented my position as Lord of our House for a little while longer. I too must say, that the cake was soooooo good. The groom called and in her words 'I didn't have to but that is the person I am' brought some cupcakes for our guests. The 1 tier that was salvaged in a way was dry and crumbled when we cut did the cake cutting and no one liked the cupcakes. We ended up throwing everything away the next day. So disappointing since I was so careful to pick somewhere with a good reputation. I was extremely disappointment with the level of service I received from Vonnie with Simply Delish and how our cake turned out. We had ordered our wedding cake to from her, which was a 3-tier cake, 10", 8", 6", no fondant or anything special and we agreed to provide the flowers from our florist. She was charging us $400, which we felt was reasonable and paid our deposit of $200. Due to covid, the county had told our venue that they would not allow weddings to be held for the remainder of 2020 and we ended up being cancelled on. My fiancé and I decided that we could not push our wedding back because of health issues and we proceeded to accept and open date of 8/29/20 at a venue close to our house. I emailed Vonnie and let her know and then called her and discussed over the phone that our wedding was changed to 8/29 and that we would have fewer guest and would like to drive to pick up our cake on 8/29 but would like the 2 bottom tiers, the 10" and the 8". She agreed and said she was getting in a fresh order of sunflowers and would go ahead and put them on our cake and we would owe her no more money, she had our deposit of $200. Well the morning of 8/29, we drive up there (the drive is an hour and a half each way). When we get there, we are given a cake, it was white, like ours. 2 tiers like ours but the flowers were different color, we didn't think anything of it since she told me that if she couldn't get our exact flowers, she would still put something. I confirmed the 2 flavors we requested, Strawberry shortcake and then chocolate mouse, she said yes and even helped me bring the cake to my car, where the cake was sitting uncovered in the lap of my fiancé (he was even touching the flowers). As I'm about to drive off, she comes running out and confirmed the cake was not ours! She never made my cake. I brought the cake back in and she placed it back in the fridge for the right couple! My fiancé is not sick but how was she to know that during a pandemic. I was upset and she told me she would still make my cake and drive it to me. And she usually charges $120 to do this but she wouldn't charge me. Why would there even be a though to charge me? She didn't make my cake and I had already driven up. Since it was the day of the wedding, I had no choice but to agree. The cake arrived to my house on time but it was not the agreed on size, it was an 8" and 6", so now I'm behind charged $200 for a cake that is no where near that cost. The strawberry shortcake was amazing but the chocolate cake had hard areas in it. The frosting was cracking and the cake was not constructed well. It is very disappointing they Vonnie allowed this to happen and I'm very sorry to whomevers cake we had I. Our car, I would be very upset to know she let this happen to my Cake during a pandemic. I had Simply Delish do the dessert for my wedding last July. I went in to the store and met with Vonnie to discuss what I was looking for and she let my mom and I sample a few cupcakes. Everything tasted pretty good, and since we were under a time crunch, we decided to go ahead and have her make our desserts. I showed Vonnie several pictures of what style I was looking for. I explained that I didn't want a traditional wedding cake, but rather I wanted a small cutting cake with textured frosting that made the cake look like a birch tree. Vonnie told me that I didn't want that and that it wouldn't look good. I was stunned. How would she know what I wanted? I definitely knew I wanted a cake that looked like the picture. I don't know anything about cake decorating, so I showed her another picture of a cutting cake that was plain with textured frosting and some natural flowers. She told me she could do that. She took down notes of what flavor the cake was to be and that I requested a plain cake with textured frosting. Vonnie delivered the desserts on the day of my wedding and we had no issues with most of the order. She did come 20 minutes earlier than our arranged time and complained that the area was not shaded. We explained to her that in order for it to be in the shade, she would need to wait 20 minutes (the prearranged delivery time that had been agreed upon) for the sun to set behind the trees and the umbrella that my mom had set up to provide extra shade. We were just not prepared for the desserts to be delivered so early (only 20 minutes after our ceremony ended). Some things to note: the delivery fee was $45 and we had to provide everything-our own stands and display tables. Be prepared to provide everything except the desserts. Everything in our order seemed to be correct except the cake. Instead of the plain textured frosting cake, I had a really old fashioned looking cake decorated with frosting flowers and was the exact opposite of what I was looking for. We called Vonnie afterwards because we thought we had actually received the wrong cake. She said no, it was the right cake. I was so confused because the one she delivered was so different from the one I ordered. After a lot of back and forth, Vonnie did offer us a store credit for the cost of the cake. We will never use the credit because I rarely eat cupcakes. I was just so disappointed that my wedding cake was so different than what I was told it would be. read more

Spectacular! We found ourselves unexpectedly without a wedding cake vendor just before our wedding. Our summer camp themed celebration was held in Groveland which, although beautiful, was remote and out in the middle of the forest! Logistically we had to plan far in advance for everything and we had no idea who to turn to when we suddenly lost our cake vendor! Coming out of town, we had to narrow down our options and choose a vendor in 1 day. I am so thankful we found Simply Delish and wish we had gone to her first! Her carrot cake was, hands down, the best I've had and her cream cheese frosting was the perfect consistency and sweetness. She was pleasant, calming, and so delightful to do a tasting with!
