Our wedding was in Sonora, CA on 9/9/23. Anyone who was in the area that weekend should vividly remember the very powerful thunderstorm, which was not in the forecast, even the morning of. One of the 1,000+ lightning strikes knocked out all power in the county from before 5pm until 5am the next morning. How in the world did Skye and her staff pull off the service they provided for our 175 guests? There were no tents and the food service was set up outside. There were no lights outside because the generators were being used for DJ and bathrooms. The only lights inside were battery operated uplights rented from the DJ for ambiance or battery operated taper candles in the candelabra on the tables. Our guests were fed absolutely incredible, delicious food and served wine throughout the night. She pulled off a miracle. Additionally, we used her in-house baker for our cake. First of all, it was delicious. But then in a crazy coincidence, in order to match the invitations and website, we made the strange request for a kintsugi pattern on in the icing. The baker knocked it out of the park! Hilariously, most of the guests mistook the kintsugi to be lightning which matched the skies that night! We also had Skye and her team cater our rehearsal dinner with an incredible paella layout with a carrot cake dessert. It was so delicious! If you get married or want to cater a party anywhere in the vicinity of Lila & Sage's Murphy's, CA kitchen, don't even bother to look for any other caterer. Working with Lila and Sage is akin to taking a Masterclass in how NOT to conduct business. To begin, the professionality of communication was atrocious. As part of our wedding planning, my husband and I had a dinner tasting in December of 2023 where the owner, Skye Ruggieri, promised a dessert trial in January. SEVEN months later we were still asking to try Lila and Sage's cakes, tarts, etc. and when we requested an updated invoice (she was contracted to provide sweets for us), said documents were always promised "tomorrow", "next week", or "when I'm back from my trip to ___." Two months before our wedding, the owner texted a less-than-official screenshot of what appeared to be a stopgap on her part. While it included dessert pricing per head, she cropped it in such a way that it strategically excluded our balance (more on that in the next paragraph). Skye then boldly claimed we'd had her invoices all along, which we obviously didn't, since we kept asking for them. She then trumped her own lie by saying she'd provide the invoice we'd requested once she returned from her third vacation in a rolling few weeks... Her promised deadline came and went, but when the invoice finally arrived ("coincidentally" after the venue owner got involved), it was sloppy and our remaining balance was incorrect. Essentially, she stated we paid $1,328.55 less in our deposit than we did, rounding off to an even $5,000 instead... On producing the check copies, Skye back peddled and said that because she was not in the shop when we provided the monies, she could not confirm their receipt. Thankfully, all banks have paper trails and we verified a deposit of all $6,328.55 right before she vacationed overseas... Other quips: A few weeks before the wedding, Skye attempted to back out of providing desserts because we kept asking for prices (seriously) and similarly tried shirking kids' meals by claiming they were too "tricky" to set up outdoors (13 plates containing grilled cheese, chicken tenders, and grapes - it's a wonder she didn't faint at the idea of providing food for 70-something adult guests). Right before the wedding, she invoiced a list of items we suddenly "needed" to rent (i.e prep tables, a cake stand, etc.). We were also told she was unable to accommodate guests' dietary restrictions, since these were "never discussed"; this was a lie and our coordinator was present when Skye said special meals were "no problem." Finally, she broke down when confronted about her lack of propriety and transparency the day my husband paid our final deposit. In short, Skye changed the amount owed by almost $1,000 as soon as he walked in (this is after settling the "missing" deposit difference of $1,328.55). It seems the venue owner had "made a deal" with her to honor our original per head pricing, but Skye either decided to back out without the owner's knowledge or tried to double dip. Her reason: our cake and food tasting were originally comped, but she now needed to bill us - this would've been fine if she'd JUST BEEN UPFRONT TO BEGIN WITH. Again: she adjusted the PER HEAD cost of menu items to cover the FIXED cost of a cake and tasting! That said, we have a sneaking suspicion that because her new Tesla was totaled a few months prior, it's possible she was scheming up ways to cash grab for a new car. A word to the wise: do not let your "first taste" of Lila and Sage fool you as it did us. This review is much abridged, though we hope it will save others the stress and completely dishonorable treatment we experienced. If you do choose this "caterer", be mindful of what seems to be Skye's simple-yet-effective gameplan: 1. Play off the PREVIOUS owner of Lila and Sage's success in "Cupcake Wars", thus reeling you in. 2. Promise you the world and/or agree to something verbally. 3. Delay providing documents you ask for so that when she DOES finally produce, it reflects more of what SHE wants (more money, less work, etc.). She'll then gaslight you about their accuracy (e.g. "this is what we talked about... you don't remember, do you?") 4. Become extremely defensive and passive aggressive if you push back and refuse to communicate AT ALL in writing once it clearly looks bad on her - she will ask to "call" you and magically forget everything you talk about once she thinks she's de-escalated the situation. 5. Pretend to be confused about what you clearly asked for and/or play the victim if you keep pressing for documentation/corrections. 6. As a last resort to pump you for cash, adjust the amount owed DAYS before your event. This pressure tactic only works because per contract language, if either party walks away over less than an act of God within two weeks to delivery, she can keep everything you've paid thus far. You're essentially bound to her in the business version of Stockholm Syndrome... 7. Hope you "let bygones be bygones" because you'll just be so happy to have decent food on your very busy wedding day that you won't give a ****. read more

Ordered a three tiered wedding cake. Came out beautiful. I wanted an all white frosting with some greenery for a simple elegant look. The flavors I chose was delicious for each tier. I would highly recommend for wedding cakes or whatever bake goods you'd like for special occasion. The only thing that was difficult to trying to actually touch base with the business to get an estimate and firm up what I wanted. I started a month in advance maybe earlier but didn't actually get to firm up until a week prior to wedding. But again, very nice, once you het them on phone and they turn out high quality. read more

Our wedding was everything I could have imagined and more. Skye and the team at Lila & Sage are truly talented, professional and extremely hard working. Working with Skye while in the planning stages was a delight. She is very knowledgeable and I felt like I could really relax and not have to worry about the details. I really felt like she had it all under control... and she did. On the day of, the set up went smoothly and our tables were stunning! My dream of a big long table for a feast was reality... gorgeous! Everything was beautiful, and no detail was overlooked. When our guests arrived they were served champagne in the the most elegant flutes... again with the details.. After the ceremony and during cocktails, Team L&S put together a yummy mix of meat & cheeses and other nibbles, it was the most delicious and incredible charcuterie display I have ever seen. And let's just talk about the food!!! Our guests are still talking about it! The chef is incredibly talented... and my Chef/Restauranteur (now husband) was blown away at how delicious everything tasted and how beautiful the food was when it came out... (Get the Risotto!) The servers were gracious and helpful.. and really just perfect.. they worked so hard and they knew what to do and when to do it.. Their service was impeccable, throughout the entire day and evening! This place is perfect for finding a cute gift for your mom/sisters/friends because they have such a wide selection of adorable items! I was so hoping I would get to leave a stellar review for this bakery and, unfortunately, that is not the case. We were incredibly excited to be working with this bakery knowing their reputation and seeing their reviews and we just didn't experience it the same way. My interactions were primarily with Skye, who I believe is the owner. I had such a hard time getting ahold of her, or anyone, be it by phone or email. I was waiting for days to get minimal responses back, if any, and that continued all the way until the day of our wedding. We did have a short timeline, but were assured it wouldn't be an issue. I was quoted certain prices when placing my order and then told different prices when it came to being charged and confirming details. I specifically requested delivery and staging and when I was confirming those details she had absolutely no record of it. I was told I would have to pick them up myself as all their cars were already scheduled for other deliveries. I was asking questions that never got answered or that had to be asked multiple times before getting an answer and it made things incredibly stressful. I asked for a list of items that I should have and I never got one. Luckily, I thought ahead and brought my own stands and things and was more than prepared, but I had hoped for more communication as I was paying for a service. In the end, Skye did deliver the cupcakes herself. We told her our ceremony started at noon and that the delivery couldn't be any later than 11:30 and she agreed saying she should be arriving by 11. She didn't show up until about 10 minutes before we started. I genuinely wish I would have had enough time to cancel my order with this shop and have placed it elsewhere. The cupcakes may have been good, but I will not be returning to this shop, nor will I recommend it to anyone. There were several of my guests who were going to place orders with the shop and upon hearing this, they decided against it. The honey orange lavender cupcake is hands down the best cupcake I've ever had. Sorry Molly's! I'm not a fan of lavender, but you could barely taste it in the cupcake. The honey orange bit was extremely fragrant and the flavors exploded in your mouth with every bite. This was one of the Cupcake Wars winners and it definitely deserved the title. I also tried the creme de menthe, which I don't think had enough mint flavor, but wasn't bad. And the 50/50 cupcake had similar notes of orange, but couldn't hold a candle to the honey orange lavender. Also, both girls working were friendly and helpful. Vanilla, Coconut filled with Chocolate: OK, would've preferred it without the chocolate even though I'm a chocolate fan. Red Velvet: OK red velvet, cream cheese icing lacking a cream cheese flavor. Tasted more like buttercream. Chocolate Ganache: Definitely a lot of chocolate but no rich chocolaty flavor. Lemon: If he had to pick a favortie, this was my husband's favorite. Lemon cake with lemon buttercream icing. Peanut Butter: If I had to pick a favorite this would be my favorite. Chocolate cake with peanut butter icing (more like a light mousse) topped with a 1/2 of a mini peanut butter cup. Cupcake Wars Winning Cupcake: Almond cake with salted rose buttercream icing. Cake was light with an almond flavor. Icing was too fragrant for us. Tasted more like eating rose cream than eating a dessert. May be winner for some but not my idea of dessert. As well as providing the food service for my wedding, I also chose to have Skye be the day of event coordinator. Karen's food is delicious. We hired her for our wedding cupcakes, and the experience was very enjoyable. I gave four stars because she's a little unorganized/not business-detail-oriented. I chalk it all up to her being an artist. But, I don't fault her too much for having a brain that works differently from mine. We had our wedding a couple hours away from where we live and figured a local baker would be easiest, so our initial contact was email. She responded quickly, but I had to tell her my preferred appointment time 3 times. I told her I was unfamiliar with this type of appt. (tasting) and how it went. She referred me to her website, for the available options. I told her which cakes we wanted to taste, and Then she informed me of the try-every-cake-and-frosting-separate style of the tasting. The last gripe I have might be my own misunderstanding. I thought she was going to provide a tiered cupcake display stand, and she didn't. Everything else I can say about her is great. She has the best Strawberry Buttercream frosting I've ever had. The cakes were flavorful, and moist. Her carrot cake won over carrot cake haters. 2 bucks per cupcake was reasonable. I don't know if that's the bulk rate or if that's the storefront price as well, but it's cheaper than other cupcake only stores. She was extremely nice and personable, very business-like and competent in person. She wanted us to have what we wanted, and she put in a lot of work to make it happen. Her work is beautiful. I was thrilled to find a cupcake store in Murphys. And not just any cupcake store...an award-winning cupcake store! I left the town with a box of 6 cupcakes...and silly me, I should take notes when I eat these. I know 3 of them were the award winners. And a couple of them definitely had been stuffed with something inside the cake...I remember an oozing cherry filling that surprised me but was rather satisfying. My very favorite...if I can recall...was the first one I ate -- a lavender ginger cupcake. It was perfection...kind of subtle and sophisticated. It stood out from the others. It was also the fresh one...I only eat one cupcake/day and it was recommended that I freeze them rather than refrigerate them. If you can, don't freeze cupcakes. I placed an order here for 6 cupcakes for a birthday on January 1st, that I was told I could pickup on New Year's eve. I am aware most hours are different on NYE but I was told I could pick them up on that day between 11-2 and I arrived at 1.
