It's raw. It's dirty. It's a very, very large operation to my standards. It's recycling. So bring your wet wipes. Everyone we have dealt with has been friendly, helpful and courteous. We bring our household glass, plastic and metals. There is ferrous and non-ferrous metal collection here. It was a little overwhelming for me at first (where the heck do we take our stuff?!) because of all the big rigs waiting in line to get weighed and unloaded. But wonderful Fiancé homed in on where we should go and everything went smoothly. Dirty old plastic garbage containers are there for you to fill and haul up to the weigh area. Great place to bring your medals. The main yard is usually quick in the early morning. They open at 6am. It can back up at times. Abigail and Isabelle are friendly, professional and efficient. Very valuable assets. Prices are great! The yard next door for copper, aluminum and brass is another story. I give it 3 stars. The guy rolling the items onto scale is slow, in attentive and often takes off while a line out the door are hostage to his whims. Too much bs going on. Wish they'd just get us in and out. Simms was fined 4.3 million dollars, 8/2014, for accepting stolen metals from Richmond residents, and the city of Richmond. They are not a good community resident and should be ran out of Richmond. They make noise constantly 6am-2am, they pollute the air with dirt and dust. Even after notifying them of he noise and pollution they continue to do the same. read more

I had about 800# of scrap copper wire. They evaluated it and quoted $1.20 to $1.60 per pound. I loaded it into one of their bins and they hauled it away. Then they only paid me $.80 per pound. If I had know before they took it I would have gone to another Richmond recycler where I was offered $1.35 per pound. Since we can't trust quotes from Sims, we now take the scrap copper from our plant elsewhere. read more

I take my small loads of scrap metal, appliances etc. to Sims in Union City and have been treated well. The time came to get rid of a 12,000 lb. antiquated lumber carrier that had been sitting on my storage lot. I e-mailed Sims and Elizabeth Xydas the senior buyer in Richmond replied and made her fair offer, paid for and provided the transportation and mailed us the check. I've been bringing metals to Sims for a number of years now. Throughout the year I bring in a large volume of brass, copper, aluminum, stainless and prepared and unprepared steel. I have always found them to be more than fair and efficient. If I arrive before their lunch at 11, someone will always stay to get me in and out (particularly Ed and Xavier). They are there with bins ready to help me when I pull in and large items are moved with forklifts as needed. Regarding pricing, Adam was my buyer before he transferred to Rancho Cordova. He always did his best to meet or exceed my pricing expectations. Currently Brittany is the buyer I deal with. Her quoted prices are always accurate and fair. I have never had a quoted price not honored. One of the reasons that my quoted prices are accurate is because I have clean, well sorted prepared metals and have a clear understanding of the criteria used by Sims to evaluate my product. read more
