I got kicked out for wearing crocs. They let me drop off the copper and brass no problem but they wouldn't let me drop off the couple hundred pounds of steel I had brought in. The office clarified that there was no rule, the guy who happened to be directing the scale was just a jerk. At this point I see a ton of tradespeople working in crocs with me and with no rules posted, online, in the office, in the yard, anywhere, I assumed it was a my toes my problem deal. I'm not sure where is better but CASS can certainly treat occasional customers better than that and not waste their time. read more

I'm a plumbing contractor and CASS has been calling me for years to recycle my copper and brass with them, but I always took my scrap to Lakeside Nonferrous Metals until they moved closer to the airport. So I tried CASS out and they gave me pennies for the bronze pumps and stainless steel heat exchangers that I took there. read more

UNDERSTANDING THE CASS PROCESS: 1) Are you recycling non ferrous (aluminum, copper, lead) or ferrous (cast iron, steel)? If aluminum, go to the loading dock and dump you load on a cart. Push your cart onto the scale next to the nice man sitting like a judge presiding over his court of metal. Present your I.D. Come back in three day to redeem your recipt or have it mailed to you. If scrap steel: Do yourself a favor and show up early. Otherwise, you will be waiting forever. Wait your turn to drive onto the scale. Walk to the office to get your initial weight recipt. Drive to the back of the lot to dump your metal. Make sure to get your recipt signed by a guy driving a fork lift. Drive back onto the scale (The diffrence in weight is what you dropped off) Take your bar code recipt into the pay booth (10 feet to the right of the office window). Scan it and the cold hard cash get spit out. Any questions? Just do what the truck in front of you does. I had such a great experience I was thinking about tearing the copper wiring out of the kitchen just to have an excuse to do it all over. read more

Updated 07//14/13, There are reviews on here made by CASS employees that read like they're customers. Updated 10/02/12, I find it amazing that I'm getting called out by "ST" who has 2 reviews: 868 glowing words for CASS and just 4 words for her 2nd review. It makes you look like a shill. I stand behind my review 100% but will respond to your points: 1. "I'm not a serious scrappers". I'm in a business that produces scrap, we have a commercial account. I've been to enough scrap yards to provided an educated review. If you think CASS is the best, go there every day--not me. 2. "I'm exaggerating that a transmission was thrown on the dock." I was there, you were not; it happened. You don't believe it, great. Dropping a 250lb transmission from the back of an open bed box truck 5' onto a dock is unsafe. Parts go shooting off and can hurt someone. 3. "This neighborhood is safe". Any person that's not blind would see that CASS is in an industrial zone filled with homeless people. You state you live in the neighborhood and you were ROBBED. So your own statement shows it's NOT a safe neighborhood. 4. "CASS does not deserve 1 star". We agree. If I could give them ZERO stars I would. 1 star gives them a 20% bump that IMO they don't deserve. Again I stand behind my review. 08/11/12 Original Review What a horrible experience. Thank you Yelp for allowing me to give my opinion. CASS is disorganized, hazards everywhere, ineffective, and in an unsafe area. Today was the last time. The one highlight was the young lady in the office that took care of me once she knew there was an issue. I work in an industry where we produce copper cable scraps. I've used Aaron metals 12+ times and CASS 3+ times. We have commercial accounts at both. I know the scrap code and type so I called Aaron Metals and CASS. Aaron was $1.55 per pound and CASS (Harry) was $1.57. CASS is closer to my office. I pulled up front. I was directed to wait across the street in the staging area for the loading dock. Once a loading dock spot opened I pulled up. -There were plenty of nails and screws on the ground by the loading dock; are new tires worth the cost of admission? A helper brought over a cart which I had to load myself. They help you at Aarons with a no tip policy, but I try to slide them some cash. Then I had to wait in a long line of any metal goes scrapers. -Yard manager came over and stated I had to move my truck onto the street; AROUND THE CORNER. This is an unsafe area, my work truck with tools is like free money. I'm not happy about this but I move it then get back into the cart line. They weigh the entire cart then pull off one type of product and throw it in bins. There were parts flying everywhere. New scrapers pulled up to the loading dock and were throwing huge car transmissions on the ground 10' from us. This is seriously unsafe. I finally make it to the front and Harry came out. He told me the cable type I told him on the phone was different but he would honor the price. Hold On. I stated exactly what it was and the code, that's the same thing I do every time I call Aaron or CASS. He weighed up the cable and directed me to the office around the corner. No paperwork, nothing. I go to the office tell them who I am and they direct me to wait. I waited 15 minutes with nothing. I go back to the window, the office staff walks by and avoids looking at you. So I knock and a young girl comes up. I ask her how much longer, she says 5 minutes. Then states they need to prove who I am. I must go back to the dock. Hold On. I was just there, they took my id. I give her my business card and my id again and told here I wasn't going back to the dock. I wait 5 more minutes still nothing. I knock a 2nd time, I've been here over an hour, YES AN HOUR. I have to go to work. I explain if they can't figure it out in 5 minutes just mail me the check. She goes to take care of it. 5 more minutes. I've had enough. I move my truck from the break in area to the public street in front of the office. The yard manager isn't happy with my truck parked there. He asks me to park in their staging area across from the office. I wait 5 more minutes. I walk back to my truck. I'm done. Then the young office girl comes out looking for me. CASS gives you a voucher that you scan at their ATM. I go to the ATM and it's gone. The yard manager points back to the dock. OMG, really. I have to now go back to the dock.. I assume they had or are preventing a security issue. An hour and half for a simple load. The final insult, I get in my truck and look down--there's oil stains on floor mats from walking in the loading dock and yard. Beautiful. If you want professional scrapping go to Aaron Metals. They're the gold standard. CASS feel free to cancel my account, I wont be needing it any more. read more

I brought in an old electric stove which was over 50lbs (all metal). When i went back to collect my money they only gave me $4.20. That's right Four dollars and twenty cents. These people ripped me off. If you are hauling in Refrigerators, Washers, Dryers, Stoves, and Dishwashers do not go to CASS, Inc. You're better off leaving those items in the street. my dad had some crusty car rims taking up space in the garage and asked me if they were recyclable. i googled and yelped recycling metal and found custom alloy scrap sales. my parents are just in albany and i was planning on going shoppin at bay street anyways so decided to bring his rims here. i wasnt sure at first what to do but i asked one of the employees directing traffic and he sent me directly to the dock area. since i actually took the time to dress up a little, (instead of my typical bum clothes) he asked me where i was headed to later and when i told him i was going to go shop after, he helped me throughout the entire process quickly and efficiently. they uploaded my dad's rims and pushed it to the scale. they weighed it and i got a ticket right away. there is a hold on the payment due to a state law but the nice girl in the office said they will mail me a check right to my home after three days so i would not have to travel out of my way back here just to get my money. i dont think i will be a frequent metal recycler, but i had a very good and pain free experience here and definitely recommend it to anyone who has any metals to recycle! read more

I have been going to this place for years! I like it best because they are the friendliest of all the reyclers I have been to, and they pay the most! They have an interesting place, that takes up about 6 or more square blocks, and in some parts of the place, metal is melted down into bricks. Unlike most bay area recyclers, this place is not just collecting metal, and mailing it off, they purify, and prepare the metals for re-use right on site. There is no line to sell precious metals, and if you are recycling steel, there is not a big magnet that takes everything magnetic out, so you can pick what you want to keep without any trouble. I recommend going here to recycle metal. You need a car to get in, but it's well worth the trip. It's so good, people drive from Modesto, Santa Rosa, and even farther away, just to get this kind of service. In comparison: i took a bunch of steel that was from security bars of windows, and old fencing to Aarons, and they gave me 80 dollars a ton after asking if I just wanted to donate it. I told them I worked hard getting the security grates off the windows, and I wanted to get paid. The man with sunglasses and a moustache told me they really only wanted precious metal, or big hunks of steel, and didn't normally accept fences, or bars. I thought "Jeez! It's gonna be melted down, who cares how big the pieces are?". I took another load of the same stuff to CASS, and was paid almost 200 at ton. read more
