You first sort your bottles and cans into the garbage cans provided. Then, a staff member weighs your items and pays you in cash. The garbage cans provided are kind of grungy, so I always wear gloves. It's worth it for me to drive from Oakland to Alameda to recycling my cans and bottles. It's a win-win situation! Your discarded cans and bottles get recycled for other purposes and you get a little cash for your efforts.

Jado Recycling took over the exact same spot rePlanet use to be at. Their setup was the same except they required you to remove all caps from your bottles. I remember rePlanet didn't make you do that. I went in the afternoon and the line was long. There were 2 people working so everything moved along a little bit quicker than I expected. One person checked if you had the right containers that was eligible to get your money back and the other person weighed your containers and payed you on the spot. There wasn't a lot of talking but some loud Mexican music blasting from a speaker. Make sure you separate all your cans, plastics bottles, glass bottles and everything else. The trash bins that they had you put your containers in weren't the cleanest. Some people wore gloves but I made sure to have some hand sanitizer ready in my car when I was done.
