She let me try a beer to help me decide what to get. We shared two appetizers, beer cheese and pretzels, which we all really liked, and salt and vinegar chips, which didn't have much flavor, didn't come with anything to dip the chips in, and was pricy at $9. We dipped the chips in the extra beer cheese, but lost interest once the cheese ran out. It's a good place to grab an Irish beer in Shockoe Bottom. read more

The food was ok.. We tried something new each day we came back. The Blackened shrimp taco was probably the most memorable thing I tried. We kept coming back for the bartenders though. When I was working this place had such great food, I would visit repeatedly. Still do. It doesn't matter how good an American chef is, we all need variation for lunch and Irish food hits the spot. It's not common like Thai or sushi but it's so good if authentic. The best corned beef and cabbage and potatoes with an Irish beer just hits the spot. Their Shepards Pie comes out hotter than eating in a South American restaurant with a salt block at the table. Just wonderful. I don't do evenings there. Understand it to be a 20-something pick up spot, but lunch at Sine's is a definite, Yes. And perhaps dinner is equally great because those kids go out when I'm going to bed. As a frequent visitor to this area this was my first time in Sine. Really cool vibe and atmosphere. Came for lunch on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy. Sat at the bar and the bartender was nice. Nice menu selection and beer options, including local. I wish I picked something other than the burger and fries because there are many options that fit the ovation better. I really enjoyed visiting Sine's Irish Pub. They have a large dinner/lunch menu as well as a brunch menu available for Saturday & Sunday mornings. All of the food ordered looked delicious. I opted for the Roasted Vegetable Salad and throughly enjoyed it. My friends order the crab cake sandwich, Reuben, chicken tenders, and nacho's appetizer. All of which tasted great! Additionally, the waitresses are very attentive and helpful. There is so many spots inside to sit and there's even a downstairs. If the weather is nice, there is a beautiful outdoor patio on the cobblestone. Some is also a bar that is very popular on weekend evenings. There are other bars nearby so it's easy to spend a night going from one to the other. The restaurant is located in the heart of Shockoe, very close to downtown. This makes parking a like more difficult but there are street parking and a public pay-to-park spot nearby. read more

My hubs and I are on the fence about this place. Cool atmosphere and friendly, efficient service. Used to be a tobacco factory. The food and drinks, however, had a lot to be desired. I ordered the pot roast and it was delicious. But the veggies were way too undercooked. On the other hand, at least they were fresh carrots. My hubs ordered the corn beef and cabbage. Cabbage was also undercooked so much so he couldn't enjoy it. I tried the corn beef and thought it was tasty but Hubs thought what he cooks at home is much better. Drinks were WAY expensive. I order a double Jameson everywhere I go and it can be pricey. This place tops every other place in price. $22. Where I live, the most I've paid is $18. Hubs ordered Red Breast Irish whiskey and what they gave him was NOT Red Breast. The server told us they were running low and we think they added Scotch to make the drink because that's what it smelled and tasted like. A single was $16. Our check total was over $120. We did have an appetizer, two entrees, his drink, and my two drinks. We thought it was over the top and we pay $100 checks on the regular because we order alcohol. But we don't think this place was worth that kind of money. They do have a cute outdoor area that allows pets so that's cool. read more

Can never go wrong with ordering the Shepherds pie. It's definitely my fave to order during the winter months if I want something warm and filling, but I'm not quite in the mood for soup. This was one of the larger restaurants in downtown RVA. I was also one that was open later at night which we took advantage of. There's a lot of seating inside and out, and can probably handle many patrons and was well laid out. The food was the problem. I ordered fish tacos as something were sold out and it was a big miss. A fish stick wrapped in a tortilla with almost no toppings. The draft and bottle offerings were good with the staple Irish beers you'd expect. We planned our evening meals much better during the rest of our RVA stay, and the remaining road trip to SE VA. read more

They wouldn't let us in without my physical ID so I had to go back to the hotel to get it. I'm 62 years old and don't pass for a 21 year-old. The service was awful. We ordered food and it was clear that the staff was angry or upset about something. This is the first time in my yelp experience that I've ever given any restaurant or establishment a one star. We went here for lunch, and it was fine. All the surfaces are hard, so any noise reverberates, making it very loud and hard to hear your own table. Be aware that this restaurant is not accessible for anyone who has trouble with stairs. Bathrooms are in the basement, and there's no elevator. Service was friendly enough, but not especially fast. Refills weren't offered. The place the restaurant fails is the food. Fish and chips look good, but the fish is flavorless, and the French fries are basic frozen, coated fries, not hand cut. Bangers and mash should be called 1 and a half sausages (really, the sausages were sliced in half lengthwise, and were still cold in the middle) with a gloppy onion gravy, over runny mashed potatoes. And for some reason they come with a bowl of obviously canned baked beans with a sprinkle of dried parsley. Why? In what world are baked beans a side dish for bangers and mash? It's served in a bowl of sorts in liquid--much like eating mussels at an Italian place, the broth is incredibly savory and after 1 bite I couldn't stop...only wondering where the garlic toast was to dip into this broth--heck, I spooned it all in leaving nary a drop. Cabbage and red potatoes were perfect, and there was mustard on top of the dish, even if I ate most before taking a pic. Water bowls provided for the pups...I closed out, but now I want a 2nd meal to see how the fish n chips are, or the Shephards pie or bangers n mash. 5 stars doesn't cover the food, service, etc. I'm all-in and what a great 1st for me in RVA as I just moved here from Austin, TX. Our waiter was soooo sweet! I wish i remembered his name... But he was new to VA from Vegas. We were just having a day out so so stopped to get something quick... The food seemed fresh... it just wasn't my style I guess. Although, I've been to several other Irish pubs and they have been delicious. We got the Irish egg rolls and the crab and shrimp dip... ehhh... everything had a strong pickle taste to it. I'm not sure why... but crab dip that tasted like pickles was not for me. The building is beautiful. Being in an historic area, a lot of the original details were still intact and I loved it. The two items I had were obviously frozen (chicken tenders and a sandwich) and not of the highest quality ingredients but the drinks were strong and the service was great. The hostess who greeted me was friendly (I hate eating alone but she put me in a lovely corner booth) and my server, Quay (sp?), was soooo sweet. I had a few difficult requests and he was cheerful and kind. I will definitely be back as I am in the Richmond area for a few weeks. Sine is a typical Irish Pub/Restaurant with bar seating as well as tables. It's not overly crowded so you can enjoy your time there comfortably. What makes it stand out, is the service. I brought a group of 30 for a retirement gathering. When I called a couple of weeks in advance to make arrangements, I was told I could of course order off their catering menu, but Happy Hour would be occurring during the timeframe we would be there. And during Happy Hour, all appetizers are half price. So we did Happy Hour. We were shown to the smaller seating area upstairs behind the bar and it was perfect. It gave our group privacy without shoving us in a "room in the back". It was a tad warm when we arrived, but they quickly adjusted the temperature to a comfortable level. We were assigned two dedicated servers to take care of us and they did a fabulous job. There was nothing we asked that wasn't accommodated. Both young ladies were friendly, offered suggestions for drinks and appetizers, and served us promptly. I ordered several servings of their Irish Nachos, Crab & Shrimp Dip, French Fries, Fried Pickles, and Irish Spring Rolls. Everything came out together without much wait and was all very tasty. The drinks were great too - I wanted a drink that's normally made with vodka, but at my request, they were able to make it with Rum. Overall a wonderful experience. We'll be back! read more

I've been to The Sine a few times and what keeps me coming back is the cozy ness and warmth of the bar. The bar has tons of little nooks and intricate wood that are the perfect place to gather with friends while enjoying a few rounds of your favorite beer. While I'm so happy to see the Sine operating during the pandemic a few things have changed. The beer prices seem to have gone up. They have also changed the cocktail menu to incorporate a few summery drinks. I took a chance and ordered a Rose' Froze. The drink has strawberry and watermelon purée with Rose'. Sounds amazing right? It didn't taste like much, the watermelon flavor was pretty dominate and watered the drink down. We also snacked on homemade salt and vinegar chips. The chips were cooked well and salted just right I would've loved to taste more vinegar in the chips. The staff is doing a really good job making health and safety a top priority. Throughout my visit I saw staff members sanitizing handrails and door knobs! They also perfectly spaced out the tables and revamped there patio area to allow for more seating under a covered tent! I look forward to visiting the Sine again post COVID to see if things are as great as they once were. For now things are just A-Ok! read more

After a day of touring we were ready for grub. Irish fare sounded great. They have a good amount of interior seating and outdoor as well. This pub was highly recommended by the trolley people we had toured with earlier and it's just down the road. You can have a full time of adventure touring around Richmond, seeing the sights and then topping off with a fine meal at this Irish pub. I had the bangers and mash because... Well my English blood just demands that I try bangers and mash all over the countryside I guess. They were really, really good. Well seasoned, nice large helpings. This pub has a very fine array of beer, ales, stout, an IPA. The service was spot on, even though they were training someone they really were very attentive. There is a large amount of indoor dining which is really warm with heavy timbers pure English pub - Irish pub style. But we sat on the patio and could look out towards the James river. Sadly, out fish and chips were very disappointing--and this menu item is one of their specialties. The batter on the fish was heavy and oily. It also tasted like the oil in the fryer was old and past due for a change. We really liked the patio; but if we do choose to return, it will be strictly for drinks.
