I was drawn into the special, which was a pork belly quiche with Irish cheese and green onions. This was ultimately quite fine. Big quiche fan but this wasn't my favorite crust nor my favorite cheese. And if I hadn't been told there was meat in it I'm not sure I would have noticed. The side salad had a nice balsamic dressing. What was most bothersome, though, was the size of the quiche. It was cheap enough but not really a lunch potion. Wish I had gone with a sanwich. Drinks were good-pretty standard. Rosie's a great local spot and our large party had a table in the back room. It was an unseasonably warm January evening, so absolutely EVERYONE was out and about. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service, food, ambiance and atmosphere make this a must visit establishment if you're in Richmond.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They are closed Mondays, so you have six chances in a week to visit! The Smashburger is hands down the best burger in the city. And they serve hand cut French fries when so many other businesses cheap out with frozen variety. Other fantastic sandwiches that my group tried were the Reuben, the Sailor and you can't go wrong with their proper Fish and Chips. The Sunday Brunch service offers weekly specials that hit the mark 100%. - they open Sunday days from 11 am until 4 pm and it's usually quite busy, so arrive early. Tuesday through Saturday they open at 4 pm. Solid happy hour. Family owned, Helen and her father Tommy have created a spot that you can tell has a LOT of regulars, who are quite friendly I might add. We were traveling with friends for a kids basketball tournament and while the kids were at a banquet we took the opportunity for adult time at this cool little joint. We just had a few appetizers and beers, so I can't comment on the food they serve. The appetizers were good and the beer was great. The service though was outstanding. This was the first time we have been there and we were not disappointed. Tried the sausage roll, hand cut fries, onion rings, smash burger, and a Reuben sandwich. I finally got to try this place! I've been a few times since my first visit, so that says a lot. I usually get the whiskey wings and I'm never disappointed! They were big, juicy, and the sauce was amazing! Their fries are perfect to pair with the cocktails! The drinks here are always on point and they have a good variety. They even serve a Greek beer, that I hear is delicious! I've also tried the burger, it's delicious and very filling. I can never finish the whole thing. My dad loved the steak and mushroom pie, it was hot out of the oven with lots of steak and golden puff pastry, I would have posted a picture but he woofed it down before I had a chance I had the chicken & avocado salad which was fresh and delicious. My husband had a very generous portion of fish and chips that was enough for two. Good atmosphere, good food, good beer selection and good Guinness. This seems to be a true Irish Pub. (from what I've seen on tv) It's small and cozy, has fine wood work all around, Irish and UK beers and really good food. The bar is slightly separated from the dinning area so that people can enjoy a nice meal and the place is very clean. I've heard that pubs have really good food and this Pub is very true to that statement. I had the appetizer special which was well thought out. It was a shrimp salad (like chicken salad) served with avocado, fresh fruit (ripe strawberries and kiwi) and crackers. My main dish was fish and chips. A nice whole piece of filet fish, deep fried crispy with a side of chips (fries). The waitress was very friendly to us, had a good personality and did a very good job. She also reminded me of someone from the Irish pop group BWitched. So far this was the best dinning experience I've had in the Farmer's Market Area. I've been to several Irish places in Richmond and Rosie Connolly's seems very real. read more

I usually do not review places having only been there one time, but this was a great place to come hang out. We had just finished taking the haunted richmond ghost tour and decided to find a close place to have a beer and talk. When walking in you feel that you have transported into a traditional irish pub, and everyone seemed so happy and upbeat. It was kind of loud at first, but when we found a booth it oddly enough, seemed to quiet down and we could hear each other talk. In looking around I saw a lot of awesome decorations and stuff that I would expect to see when visiting a pub in Ireland. It did not seem overly done, or "gimmicky" but just a cool chill place to hang out. I only wish I lived within walking distance to this pub, as I would hang out here at least once a week. I just do not like to fight for parking my truck in those small spots down there. read more

Visited the bar last evening, first time since COVID, I was really disappointed , the fish from the fish and chips was soggy, we also had the French dip sandwich its meat was tough and just made the sandwich really pitiful. Rosie's is a little gem in Shockoe Bottom that is reminiscent of corner bars from an earlier time. It's a fantastic little Irish pub that attracts a steady stream of regulars. Family owned, you'll often find the owner, Tommy (it's named for his grandmother) and his wife tending the bar and making conversation with patrons. The staff is always very friendly and attentive whether it's your first visit or 50th - they'll make you feel welcome. The interior is nicely done with wood and tastefully adorned with memorabilia. The front bar area features high tops you can stand around as well as tables around the edges with chairs. Some are in little nooks which are great for privacy. The back dining room offers plenty of larger tables for bigger groups. There's also a small patio in the front overlooking the farmer's market that's great for when the weather is nicer. The bar serves up a rotating lineup of pub drafts but always has the constants - Harp, Guinness, and Smithwicks. They also have a large collection of Irish whiskeys and it's not uncommon to take a shot with the friendly folks at the bar you just met minutes ago - it's that kind of place. As a transplanted Brit I think I am qualified to say that this place is the most authentic British/Irish pub in the city of Richmond (and probably Virginia). When you step into the front door you are transported to a place across the Atlantic, from the wooden fixtures to the chalkboard specials everything about this place screams PUB. The beer selection is excellent, it might not have the quantity of a Capital Ale House, but it's quantity that counts and with Fuller's, Smithwicks, Tetley's and Guinness amongst the selection, a true ale connoisseur will not be left wanting. I've also noticed that the beers on tap here taste better than the exact same brands at other places, a sure sign that the landlord knows how to store and clean his equipment. The food is good British comfort food. I usually get the bangers and mash or steak and Guinness pie, but the fish and chips couldn't be more authentic if you wrapped them in a newspaper. It won't be to some people's taste, but to an ex-pat with a bout of home sickness it's pure heaven. The owner, Tommy, is a good old Scouser (Liverpudlian) who is always willing to share a few stories from behind the bar. There are also variety of characters who frequent the pub open to conversation, I have met lobbyists, policemen, lawyers and executives in various states of inebriation at Rosie's. I guarantee that after a few visits to Rosie's you will soon be referring to it as your 'local'. read more

After two actual attempts and finding them closed, one cancelled Yelp Supper Club event (accidentally planned it on the night of a World Cup match--what were we thinking?!), and many years of saying "ohh I really want to try that pub," I made it to Rosie Connoly's. I love this pub! It's what I've been looking for in Richmond for a long time! It's in a cool looking green building next to Havana '59 down in the Shockoe, just adjacent to the 17th St. Farmer's Market square. The interior has a great vibe and friendliness that seems genuinely "pubbish" (a word? It is now!) Upon entering, a welcoming voice from the bar said "grab any table you'd like." so we did. After another minute, we were greeted and gave our Guiness order. A few minutes more passed and we gave our dinner order. Fish and chips for me, and a burger for my friend. I'd read about the F&C in other reviews and was eager to try it done right (as I've been told.) It was delicious, well cooked and huge! My friend enjoyed his burger as well, despite my attempt to accidentally spill a water glass on it. Slight embarrassment aside, I had a great time that evening. The owner, Tommy, stopped by and introduced himself and told us a bit of the place's history. I saw what looked like pairs of regulars around the bar and at back tables. It just felt good being here. Despite it being across the river from home, I'll make special trips to Rosie Connolly's. read more

This place competes very well with Penny Lane a few blocks away for the best pub I've visited in Virginia. The food is very good, and I'd like to specifically say that the Crab-Cake Sandwich was phenomenal- a HUGE crab-cake with great flavor. The beer selection isn't bad either, and the service was friendly and fast. It's a very laid-back atmosphere, but the restaurant itself is much classier and nicer than you'd expect from a pub. The seats in the dining room are crazy comfy, and since it has a couple TVs in the dining room, this isn't a bad place to come catch a game while you enjoy some great food. I still prefer the afore-mentioned Penny Lane Pub when I want to enjoy a few pints over some soccer matches, but this is the place to come for a tasty meal in a cozy, clean pub. read more

Stopped in at Rosie Connolly's for lunch after the Oyster Festival. The outdoor patio is small but it wasn't very full and we were able to fit our entire group of 8 outside no issues. The patio is nice, but the back corner gets strong afternoon sun, there are umbrellas for shade but sunglasses and maybe sunblock are a must. (I was a bit lobster-y by the time I left). On to the food: Beer selection was great and the waiter was very friendly. My table did mostly burgers and sandwiches and they were all delicious. The menu is fairly small but it gives a good range of options without overwhelming you with choices. I would say the big pull is burgers and sandwiches. I had the turkey Reuben and it was AMAZING. Everything was put in the perfect amount: a little sauce, a lotta turkey, buttery grilled rye bread, and instead of sauerkraut it had some sort of almost coleslaw on it, it was so good! The fries were also good authentic steak fries that are accompanied with malt vinegar (my favorite). The one negative that lost them a star was service was VERY slow, but who cares if you have the time and the company to talk to right? read more

Drink selections offered something for everyone and the menu was fairly typical for a pub. I had the Irish burger (no bun) which I enjoyed. All said Rosie Connolly's was a great place to hang with friends on a Saturday night. Note: that the menu on their website does not exactly foot to what we were given. I went to this place while it was still cold out at night. And this establishment decided to keep the door open for some apparent reason, which also caused smoke to fill the bar. But to be fair, the smoke somewhat masked the stench of the disgusting food. As I waited for my awful service another patron decided to sleep on his table. Folks it's a bar, drink here. Tommy the bartender/owner is a throw back to your old school bartenders. He knows his craft and takes pride in it. He knows a good drink and how to make it, he pours a fine Guinness with a shamrock in the foam, and can mix a sold shot to get the fires going. Not an expensive place to put down some drinks. Came here on one specific occasion with the GF had multiple drinks, shot, and the bill came out to $40 with a nice tip included. I can't vouch much for the food as I have only had the fries. The food looks appetizing enough but I can't say I would come here to eat, unless i was already drinking here. All in all the people here are what really make this place special. You know a bar is good when it has regulars. The first time I came here it was like 4 in the afternoon on a Saturday. The regulars were already there. That is what I call a good sign. read more

I also love the cozy booths that are located in the front part of the bar. We found one and relaxed on the comfy couches and barstools and enjoyed relative privacy, as the dividers can go pretty high up in certain spots. Very well done local pub, all I could ask for! It's got a cozy feel with decked out walls featuring Irish and local regalia. A small patio houses some outdoor seating for if it's nice out. I've been here a few times now and each time it seems a majority of patrons are regulars yet newcomers are far from unwelcome (on my second visit the waitress remembered my friend and I and it was as if we had been coming here for years). Their beer selection is solid, featuring a nice balance of Irish/UK imports as well as solid American brews and they're pried reasonably at around $4 for a pint of $3.50 at happy hour (not the best deal but worth the atmosphere). They also do tasting flights for $12 which can give you a nice variety but honestly I'd recommend just getting a few pints. Their menu is pretty standard pub fare but at least their fish and chips were phenomenal. Not too greasy but with a nice firm batter and flaky meat, the dish was delicious. Located near the Farmer's Market off 17th St, there's great outdoor seating for the spring and summer evenings, and a very spacious interior (bar is separate from an eating area). The whiskey and beer selection is awesome. They actually have Tetley's on tap! Try this beer if you're a fan of Boddington's or other draught style beers. Yummy stuff. Gets a bit smoky inside at times so be warned if you don't like to stink like cigarettes at the end of the evening.
