I came to Singapore Hawker after a friend told me about all the wonderful food she had eaten while visiting Singapore. It made me curious to try Singaporean food for myself, and I'm glad I did! The restaurant was clean, the staff were friendly, and the service was great. I tried a couple dishes and everything was so tasty. One of the highlights was the Hainan Chicken Rice. I kept hearing about this favourite dish so finally I tried it. My friend, who had eaten it in Singapore, said it was very authentic, which was great to hear. I also tried one of the soups and really enjoyed it. The portions were reasonable, and I thought the quality of the food matched the price. It was also fun trying flavours and dishes that were a little different from the Asian foods I usually eat. If you want to try Singapore hawker-style food or simply want to try something different, Singapore Hawker is definitely worth a visit. I'll be back for sure! read more

Went to the restaurant too late. They were out of the hainanese chicken and the roti canai. We got Nasi Goreng, Kari Ayam, and Kari Lembu. Also got just the Chicken rice. All the dishes were good not exactly like one would get at Singapore but really close. The best dish of the night would be the Curry Beef. The beef was extremely soft and tender. The chicken rice was a bit disappointing as it was not as moist as a good chicken rice should be but maybe it is late in the evening. Great spot to visit if you are craving Singaporean food. We tried the char kuey teow which was the favorite of the evening as it was well cooked and had good flavor and texture, Hainanese chicken rice was alright, the braised short ribs were tasty too and more of a fusion dish as it was essentially in an adobo sauce with chile added. Service was very attentive and welcoming and the place had that bustling hawker center feel to it which was fun. This is a family friendly spot and as other reviewers have noted, there is limited parking. One note on the bathrooms is the evening we visited, they could have used a good cleaning as the floors were sticky. read more

Finally had the chance to try Singapore Hawker! Been hearing so many good things about this place and it certainly didn't disappoint. I was lucky to get a table around 7pm on a Friday with minimal wait, as the restaurant was always quite busy. We ordered a bunch of items to share. We got the Hainan chicken (side order) which was soft and tender. The ginger scallion sauce was really flavourful and didn't overpower the taste of the chicken. As a carb dish, we ordered the "char bee noon" which I don't usually get/see at other SEA-style restaurants. Really liked this one and I like how they can adjust the salt level because usually their sauce can be quite salty. For other sides, we got the roti canai, which was as expected. The one dish that we saw every table getting was the crispy smoked pork belly (some tables even ordered 2!!), so we definitely had to try it. It was a newer taste for me; it had the taste of cha siu, but the skin was really crispy like it was siu yuk. Really good!! The vinegar-based dip acted nicely to cut out the rich and fattiness of the pork belly. Definitely a good dish to pair with something light, like Hainan rice. Very disappointing. I only tried once when they first opened, and have never been back since. The portion was extremely small, quite rare these days. And the tiny little shrimps didn't even taste fresh. However, they might've improved or changed chefs since. read more

4.3 stars to me. We've been here many times. It's our go to spot for Singaporean food and Hainanese chicken rice! Most food is good, though there were a couple hits and misses on some of the dishes. The restaurant isn't super big, most tables are for 4, which is great when it's just my family. They have only a few round tables that seat about 6. While it can be a squeeze, we once managed to fit 8 people, 4 adults and 4 kids. There is often a bit of a wait with a long line, but luckily, we were able to make reservations with our bigger group. Once seated, you order from a QR code, and it's so easy to order a lot! Most of their servers were guys, all of whom were nice and efficient.   Parking can be a pain, as they have only a few dedicated spots, so be prepared for street parking in the neighborhood. The prices are reasonable, making it a great value for the quality of the food. read more

We visited this place on a Sunday evening. We were greeted by a host right away, and put our name on the waiting list. It was around 6pm, the restaurant was relatively busy, but not overly crowded. The host reassured us it'll be quick, which was nice of him. We ordered a variety of things to try, and my favorite ones are the fried egg noodles and curry beef brisket. The egg noodles is on the sweeter side, which my daughter enjoyed it very much. The curry beef brisket on rice has a nice flavor and not spicy nor salty. The portion of each dish was decent. I have never had stir veggies with whole chilli pepper in it, which gives the flavor a nice kick. We also wanted to try the satay, but was told that they are taking it down from the menu, which means it will no longer be available. I'm a little bummed about it, but the complimentary coconut flavored dessert was very yummy! The restaurant is spacious, clean, also had Singapore landscapes decor on the walls. If you are looking for authentic Singaporean street food and your fix of Asian curry Singapore hacker is your spot. It is a first come first serve basis restaurant and it is usually packed. Once seated, though you order everything through a QR code and the menu on your phone. what I like about the menu on the phone is that every offering has an associated picture. It's really nice so you get a sense of what you're ordering and how it looks like. My colleague and I am very simple. We started out with appetizers. We ordered the roti with a dipping curry, which was phenomenal and their chicken pamdan that had a sweet-and-sour like dipping sauce also amazing. My colleague ordered a Singaporean fried rice and he loved the dish. I ordered the simply basil pork with rice and a sunny side egg and it was phenomenal. The ambience is not overly loud, but it's not quiet either since it's always busy. It's in an open area seating so if you're looking for privacy, this is not your place. Got the hainanese chicken. Was very good but didnt understand why they use such a big take out box. The two top portions were used to put the dipping sauce in but there was so little sauce. We walked past this restaurant heading to the Mochi festival at Nikkei so we decided to come for lunch. It portrays the hawker feel since you go to the counter to order. Some tables a big so people share tables. Service was good a quick. Food was delicious. We had 4 appies, - curry fish ball with pork rind, chicken wrapped with pandan leaf, smoked pork belly and roti and 2 bigger dishes, Char Kuey Teow and beef Randang with rice. We were 5 of us and lunch came to only $14pp!!! The curry sauce was spot on, the pork belly was crispy and tasty and the best was the beef randang with big chucks of beef brisket - so tender. Yum. I've recently learned how to make it at home, so now I usually cook it myself, but if you order it here, it's slightly over $20. This was honestly was one of the best places I've eaten at in the PNW. Decided to go here on a family vacation as it was close to where were staying and we were all wowed by the service in the food quality and portion sizes. The food portions are ginormous and many of their dishes are shareable. We ordered the Gado Gado, Laksa, Hainanese Chicken, Satay, Pork Belly, Calamari, etc. If you're ever in Vancouver Metro this is a place worth frequenting and it is a place I go to every time I visit from Seattle. read more

Our order was brought to our table only minutes after we ordered. Singapore Laksa: recommend! Very flavourful broth and came with lots of protein: tofu puffs, prawns, egg, fish cakes, and fishballs. They also have a vegetarian version. Kari Lembu on rice: Malaysian curry beef brisket with rice and comes with a small bowl of veggies on the side. The curry was delicious, but the brisket was kind of hard and difficult to chew. Garlic fried squid: I recommend this appie. Lightly battered squid with a hint of spiciness. It's awesome that I do not have to go to Coquitlam, they have a branch in Burnaby in Sperling & Kingsway. Parking is limited, I noticed many customers ordered takeout. You are greeted the moment you walked into the door. I say that's customer service! Then they quickly offer you a menu. I actually witnessed a couple coming in, the crew greeted them warmly & invited them to sit anywhere they liked & gave them the menu. After a few minutes, the couple decided to leave the restaurant without ordering. What did the crew do? They thanked them & said "Have a nice day"! Wow!!! The place is brightly lit with a nice decor with the painted motifs of Singapore. Nice white table with blue & white chair, the aesthetics is pleasant. Process of ordering is systematic, you go to the counter & order, pay for it, find any open table you like & wait for your number to be called to pick up your food. There aren't too many Singaporean restaurants in the tri-city, but my Singaporean friend highly recommended this one. Their Hainaness chicken was so soft and tender, could use more soup. Their Laksa was too spicy for me and the meat balls didn't taste as fresh. Large portion though! The lemon tea was pretty mid.. tasteless and extra ice. I really liked their squid. A little soft but it didn't feel heavy. The sauce pairs super well. It's sweet but light. I wish it came in a bigger amount compared to the squid they gave. Customer service was so-so... they had many people working and some were nicer than the others lol. You were told you have to pick it up on your own but I notice they try to get it for you so that made it kind of confusing. It gets busy. It was extra loud and bustling in there. Two location-- one in Burnaby and the other in Coquitlam. Don't go to the wrong location like I did if you're meeting your friend up. This is the Burnaby location, and it's spacious. I love Singaporean food and this place was recommended from a friend of a friend so we decided to check it out. This used to be Deer Garden so I'm bit sad they're gone now! The setting is basically the same, but they took down a wall and ambiance is a lot brighter. It felt like a canteen almost, very no frills. Like a fast food restaurant, you order and pay first, and then pick up your food yourself. I got the beef brisket curry with rice and it was so good. Very tender and flavourful beef. It was so yummy. Portions aren't huge, but they're also not charging you a lot either. My friend got some fried squid and it was fried really well too. Tasty Singaporean (Malaysian?) place where Deer Garden used to be. Parking is available on the side streets. The place is a bit too brightly lit, with the stark white lights. Honestly reminds me of an office more than a cafeteria, and definitely not of a hawker plaza. There's a merlion mural on one side, and a nice Singapore skyline mural on the other. So pretty. Staff were friendly and helpful. The place is cafeteria style, where they make the dishes, but the trays of food have to be manually picked up. Great for saving a tip. Can't complain. Similar to Shiok (the other Singaporean place around town that comes to mind). I had the nyonya rendang lenbu on ginger rice. Decent sized portion, and decent amount of meat. The flavoured rice goes well mixed in with the sauce. I was definitely happy. Pricing is reasonable too. This place is packed on Sunday evening, even at 5 pm. If you have more than 2 diners in your group, it could be a wait. Put your name and contact info on the wait list when it's full house. I guess south Burnaby is lacking a Malaysian/Singapore restaurant, hence the popularity. I brought a friend here to try the food. Her first time eating South East Asian food. She liked them well enough. We shared Singapore Laksa, curry spiced wings and char kway teow (fried flat rice noodles). The mild spicy char kway teow was actually spicy. I still don't understand why this place is called Singapore Hawker when the dishes are more Malaysian style food and taste. You won't get the same taste if you have these in Singapore. There are subtle differences and nuances in the taste, and generally Malaysia has better tasting food. The Singapore Laksa is more like curry Mee. It lacks the Laksa leaves and sambal and the spices which are common in the Laksa in Singapore. So while it is tasty, just think of it as curry noodle and you won't be disappointed. If you want that Laksa leaves and rempah and sambal taste, you're out of luck here. The char kway teow is more savory than sweet. It is more Penang or Malaysian char kway teow. Singapore's version has that sweet black bean sauce not found here. It is very yummy though as I liked the spice in it. And I do miss Penang char kway teow too. This will do in a pinch. Just need more wok hei flavor. The curry spiced wings are disappointing. The meat is bland, the flavors are in the skin. Skip this. Now, the ordering. The concept is similar to the coquitlam branch. But here because it is packed, the staff will tell you where to sit. They will also give you a menu. Then you go to the cashier to order and pay. Wait for your number to be called. The fried stuff take longer than the Laksa or those which do not require much cooking. Bus your own table when done. But when it's crowded, the staff will actually clear your plates once they see you're done. So the turnover of table can be fast during peak period. I seriously suggest coming here alone or with one other person if you don't want to wait a long time. or come at non peak time. Many people also ordered take out here. Char Kuey Teow ($14.95) - I enjoyed it, but I think I prefer the one from Hawkers delight a little more Singapore Laksa ($14.95) - my favourite! Just for the birds?!? I had a take out order when it first opened and it was more than disappointing so decided to come back here for a dine in experience in hope of a better experience. This place is located on the corner of Kingsway and Sperling in Burnaby. There are a few tight butt parking spaces on the side parking lot or around the streets. Inside the restaurant is similar to a cafeteria concept; the bare basics of tables and chairs with minimal decors, order and pay at the counter, food will be brought to your table when ready. Upon entering, was guided to a table already occupied by another diner (wasn't even busy and a lot of empty tables, why a shared table? this isn't Singapore tinder?!? I am here to eat not in hope of making a new friend and feeding eat other roti?!?) Here were the food I ordered; 1. Satay skewers (chicken). I find them quite tiny in portion wise, would've been better if they were slightly more chunky. 2. Roti Canai. The roti itself was quite flaky and good but wish the curry wasn't so watery so sticks to the roti more. 3. Nyonya 3 kinds pan fried with shrimps. Were out of okras but I okay'ed it. Pretty basic noting exciting much. 4. Singapore laksa. The soup base was too sweet that it masked most of the flavours away but the fish balls were decent. Maybe a cleaner presentation would be nice too. 5. Boneless Hainanese chicken on rice. The chicken was missing that silky smoothness and the rice didn't have that nice Hainanese chicken flavour to it. Overall, I believe the second time around confirmed my first time experience here. The customer service here was quite limited besides the cashier who was quite nice and friendly. The ambiance was a very casual cafeteria style which I guess it kind of fits the "hawker" part. The food was... ummm... I would say could've been better; in terms of quantity it was okay but in terms of quality, it was off. i called ahead the day before and made reservations for dinner the next day, party of eight, 6:30 pm on a saturday night. the person who answered took my info and said they would do their best to accommodate us, but there's no guarantee. this is singapore hawker's second location, conveniently located on sperling and kingsway in burnaby, with side and street parking. singapore hawker is more of a fast food, hawker style concept, meant for fast turnover, not so much for lingering after the meal. once you're seated, you place your order at the counter, pay, and wait for your number to be called. we ordered individually and a few family style dishes to share. i wasn't hungry but did enjoy the roti canai, it was flaky, not too greasy and delicious with the curry dipping sauce. dishes ordered included: malaysian curry laksa sambal green beans deep fried squid, it came lightly battered and the squid was tender char kuey teow, this was the stand out dish as you can taste the 'wok hey' hainanese chicken on rice was accompanied with two delectable sauces, i could eat the ginger and shallot oil on everything, it's that good. curry beef gado gado, malaysian salad was prepared without the egg, along with a vegetarian laksa noodle in soup and fried noodle dish that they were flexible in accommodating vegans. they do not offer liquor here, they have canned drinks, and fresh coconut (with straw for drinking only, opening is not big enough to carve out the coconut meat) credit cards are accepted. read more
