Service has also been consistently great. What more can you ask for? It's definitely a more casual spot but still a well rounded enjoyable dining experience. Wok hei is peak. Our family LOVES the rendang, roti canai, and satay skewers. There's no visit without these 3 orders. Every dish we've had has been a hit! Only the clam dish was a little short if it (on the pricier and saltier side, might be better with a side of rice). My stomach grumbles for singapore hawker as I write this review. Visited this little gem in Coquitlam and it was just like being in Singapore. Authentic dishes and the Laksa is very much like what I enjoyed in Singapore. I got there at opening and it filled up fast. Lots of staff on hand and so service was excellent. Parking out front is pay parking but if you don't mind walking a block or two then there's free parking nearby. Pay parking isn't too expensive though. read more

The place was so popular we waited for around 30 min to get a table for 4 on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was pretty spacious and there was an indoor waiting area. Amongst the food we ordered, I particularly liked the Hainanese chicken and Pandan leaf chicken skewer. The Hainanese chicken was tender and went well with the yellow rice. The chicken skewer had a subtle floral Pandan taste which I liked. Their Char Kuey Teow was pretty good too. There were shrimps, squids and fish cakes in it. It has Wok Hei. I revisited Singapore Hawker to get a take out. I ordered Char Kuey Teow and Holy Basil Minced Pork on Coconut Rice. I requested both items for mild spicy, however, Char Kuey teow was quite spicy. The hainanese chicken rice is a great pick. When I visited Singapore, it was hard to find a boneless version, so I appreaciated that this one is not only boneless but still juicy and tender. The sauces are not as flavorful, but I like the portion of the meal. I like how they give out the soup as well. The servers are welcoming and reminded me to put garlic oil for the dish, which added a nice crunch overall. The only thing missing is the ginger scallion oil sauce which will elevate this to the next level. They also gave free dessert at the end which is a pleasant surprise. I definitely recommend this restaurant. I had tasted some food at a friend's place and when I asked her if she cooked it she told me that it was some leftover from the dinner she had at that restaurant. It was so delicious and she told me that all the food there was succulent. So yesterday we asked her to come with us to show us where it was. She was so right! I of course ordered the food I had tasted at her place plus a few more dishes. Everything was simply perfectly delicious. Not to spicy but incredibly tasty. The staff there are all excellent, very polite, courteous, friendly and professional. To be very honest, this is the best food I've had in a restaurant in a lone long time and the prices are reasonable which is part of their success. Malaysian parent approved. Whenever I'm visiting home (Port Moody), this is one of my go-tos. Singaporean and Malaysian food is what i consider comfort food, and they really do a good job of that. My top pick here is probably their hainan chicken rice is really good - definitely has some fat to it (delicious) but not overwhelmingly greasy and the broth is packed with chicken flavour. I don't actually know how the chicken meat is still so tender after they make the broth from it. But can't go wrong with beef rendang or any sambal veggie dish either. We ordered to share the Nyonya Sambal Egg, Nyonya fried 3 kinds, Singapore Laksa with mixed vegetables, and Satay Skewers. Drove all the way out to Coquitlam twice so far, to dine at this popular Singaporean restaurant. Good selection of authentic-tasting dishes in a cafeteria-style eatery. There's usually a wait, but you can leave your phone number & they'll call you when a table is ready. After getting a table, you have to go up to the counter to order, and when the food is ready, grab the items yourself from the kitchen counter. You also have to bus your own dishes after. So it's essentially operating like a food court, in a restaurant-type setting. Both times, we ordered the Roti Canai appetizer, the Char Kway Teow, and the Singapore Laksa. Taste was pretty authentic for all 3 items. The Char Kway Teow was tasty and not too oily, but light on meat ingredients (no Chinese sausage or chicken, compared to the same dish at other places). The curry (that came with the roti) and laksa were both a little on the sweet side. All in, a pretty solid experience. Will definitely be back again! read more

A nice spot for a quick lunch! Never tried Singaporean food before but was meaning to for the longest time. I really appreciated how fast the service was. Probably took less than 10 minutes for everything to come out. The menu was pretty extensive. I liked how a lot of the dishes were seafood or vegetarian. We got roti canai and Singaporean laksa. Both were super flavorful and delicious! The roti canai was super flakey. The laksa was super warm and comforting. The broth was not too salty and there was plenty seafood. We came on a Friday evening around 6 pm and it was busy but not too much. There were a couple of folks in front of us in line. Everything here is self serve, from getting your own food to putting away the dishes at the end of the meal. We ordered the following dishes: A1 chicken satay skewers ($6 for 3 pieces) - very tender, and the peanut dipping sauce was delicious! A2 roti canai ($3.95) - loved the roti and the curry dip went well with it F2 vegetarian mee goreng ($11.95) - I didn't try it but my friend loved this dish R1 Hainanese chicken ($11.95) - I asked the cashier for their most popular dishes and this is one of the two she recommended, so I decided to give this a try. WOW that chicken was super smooth and flavorful. Some of the best Hainanese chicken I've had in years... We loved the food here and thought it was very afforable. It was only $35 for 2 apps and 2 entrees, which was enough to fill us up. I finally give this place a try as sometimes you just have to try it to see if it is as unauthentic as what my Singaporean friends said. Looking at the menu, it is definitely more Malaysian dishes than Singapore. And Gado Gado is an Indonesian dish, not Malaysian as in the description. Maybe they think without the tempeh, they can make it Malaysian. But no, even if you go to Malaysia, you will not find it in any of the coffee shops there. I decided to have the Hainanese chicken rice and char bee hoon, plus the HK milk tea. The chicken rice was ok, not as horrible as other places. The only thing I like is the soup. That is very flavorful and I like that it has lots of green onions plus some pieces of radish. The chicken is tender (I still do not get the yellow skin. Why?) and the rice is a bit hard. The ginger is good and chili is ok, a bit on the sour side. If you do not expect it to be similar to what you had in Singapore, it is a decent dish. The char bee hoon was unexpectedly tasty. I love fried bee hoon in Singapore as it was quite a breakfast staple. Like the simple fried rice, most families have their own version of fried bee hoon and so we hardly order this outside the home. This fried bee hoon is like any fried carb dish except it is cooked with rice vermicelli. So it has Chinese sausage (lap cheong), fish cake, egg and shrimps. I think it has some fried dried shrimp (hae bi) or belachan taste but without the spiciness. Not much wok Hei though it is slightly charred. Not bad. The food is decent. The service is friendly and the staff followed the covid-19 safety protocols very diligently. They cleaned and sanitized the tables and chairs when people leave. Just do not expect real Singapore food here and you will enjoy the food. read more

It's been awhile since we've had laksa so while we were in Coquitlam, we dropped in for a bite at Singapore Hawker. They specialize in Singaporean/Malaysian food. We dropped in on a Friday afternoon (around 3:30pm) and there were quite a few customers dining in. You can grab menus but need to go up to order and pick up your food when your number gets called. Self-serve style but hey, they don't make you tip! The menu is split into appetizers, fried noodles, laksa, rice, vegetables, curry dishes and dessert. - Roti canai (A2) ($3.95) - the curry dip was interesting; five spice was the prominent flavour. The roti canai itself had a nice crunch but wasn't very flaky. - Singapore laksa (L1) ($11.95) - broth is one of the better ones I've found; a touch spicy and creamy. Good portion of noodles. - Boneless Hainanese chicken on rice (R1) ($11.95) - came with some sliced cucumbers, cabbage (never seen that before) and soup. The chicken was tender and flavourful. Both dipping sauces complimented the chicken. Only thing I was disappointed in was the rice; lacked that satisfying, aromatic flavour and the sweet soy sauce they added masked things. It is located across the street from Coquitlam Centre near the Walmart entrance. We we ordered three of their most popular dishes: - Hainanese Chicken only - Singapore Laksa - Roti Canal The food was very tasty and delicious. Their Singapore Laksa was exceptional. After a hike at Buntzen lake, my friends and I were starving and ready for a delicious meal. My friend recommended to go to Singapore Hawker. A sizeable well listed restaurant, it is a casual joint where you grab an available table and then go up to the cash register to place your order. They announce each order number and you go up to pick up your order(s) served on a cafeteria tray. I typically always order roti but unfortunately, they were sold out for the day by 5:30pm on a Saturday. My two friends and I ordered a Nyonya Sambal Egg, Char Kuey Teow, boneless Hainenese chicken with rice, Singapore seafood laksa, and two orders of tea. Altogether it came out to approximately $42, a great deal for 3 people! Our orders were called and I could smell the fragrant hints of coconut milk in the seafood laksa. A generous portion with a fair amount of seafood toppings (large shrimps, fish cakes, bean sprouts, fish balls, etc), the laksa was delicious. I especially loved the soup base that was fragrant and flavourful but not heavy in oil. The Nyonya Sambal Egg was swimming in sambal sauce, which was delightful. We enjoyed the sambal sauce so much we asked for some extra. Boneless Hainenese chicken with rice was a fair portion. The rice had a nice chicken flavour without it being overly oily, which was appreciated. Chicken was juicy and tender - yum! Char Kuey Teow rice noodles were pretty broken up and the noodles were on the verge of being slightly too slimy and overcooked. Still, had a nice flavour and generous with seafood. Oh man! Coquitlam B.C. got some great Chinese food over my home in Southern California/Orange County and Singapore Hawker was up there the way I remembered in my visits to Singapore. Which in a way is a relief given the little pester problem called Covid is going on. The place's clean/clinical like atmosphere is reassuring but nothing could prevent 12 or so senior citizens plunking down within 6 feet our radius after we sat down. Apparently being unmasked and all, they do not watch the news or care? (Something this restaurant could reinforce?) We had C1, R1 and roti. All were fairly decent. Okay priced. I heard from another friend that this restaurant is ran by Hong Kongers. I ordered the Hainanese chicken and Roti Canai. The Hainanese chicken came with rice and soup. It was ok. I had better Hainanese chicken before. It was not very flavorful. I think they needed more sesame oil. Also the chicken was not super smooth or soft. The rice that came with the Hainanese chicken, didn't have a very strong chicken flavor to it. Somewhat lacking with the chicken flavored rice. The Roti Canai was a bit lacking. I prefer Banana Leaf's Roti Canai. The curry sauce that came with it was good. It just needed to be a bit more flaky and a bit more sweeter. Overall, the food was good but not wow. This place is Hawker style so before Covid, you would order and find a place to sit. Everything is self-serve. However, things are a bit different at the moment. Singapore hawkers have very authentic food coupled with exceptional customer service. All items on the menu are from the cuisine of Singapore-malaysia. Place ur order at the front counter and be seated for your number to be displayed on the TV screen or being called out by the food server. U collect your food along with your cutlery and enjoy it. I m not sure if this practice is followed strictly because of COVID-19 or otherwise too but i don't mind either way. Drinks are available but not alcoholic ones. Since we were out at Coquitlam, we came upon this place. It's a hawker styled eatery where you order and pay for your food on entry and then when the food is ready they will either call you to pick up or they sometimes have folks to deliver it to your table. Then when you are done, you pack up your dirty dishes and place them in a cleaning station. Not a bad system, just know that it isn't really table service. The food was pretty good, except for the Hainan Chicken Rice where the chicken skin was kinda thick and yellow. Good Hainan chicken will not be bright yellow skinned but rather pale yellow and soft. The consistency of the chicken should be soft and juicy - fully cooked. In this case it was somewhat thick and rubbery. The rice was good but it was also missing some of the special sauces that makes this dish. We also tried the chicken satay and the roti canai. Both were flavorful and not too bad at all. If you are looking for Hainan Chocken rice, don't come here. For the rest of the menu, it's pretty decent. read more
