The roti was crispy and I liked that the curry sauce was flavourful. The free ice cream was amazing as well. Service was superb and the ambiance felt comfy.

I was passing by and decided to try this spot since it was during their happy hour. I was looking to have a snack - hence it was happy hour between 3-5. The happy hour menu didn't have many snack foods, mostly larger items intended as meals or for sharing. Since I was alone, I ordered a portion of their roti canai with curry. Wow, was I impressed! The warm and flakey roti was sooo delicious and paired with their curry sauce, which was flavourful and fragrant, with spices but not overwhelmingly spicy, was perfect. The service was also excellent, though they seemed disappointed that I was only ordering a snack (am I misunderstanding happy hour?). Nonetheless, I still had a great meal and would love to come back and try their other items.

I went to Golden Smell Mee for happy hour. We ordered the short ribs, roti, chicken wings golden OG style, chicken and beef satay skewers, kon lo mee with minced pork and char siu, and curried potatoes and chicken. The food came fast and almost all at the same time. I personally would have preferred it if they staggered the dishes a bit more, as some of the food did get cold. My top 3 favorites were the roti dipped in sugar, the short ribs, and chicken wings. It was the first time trying roti dipped in sugar and I absolutely loved it. The dish also came with curry dip, but I didn't bother using it since I loved the sugar dip so much. The skewers were also good. I liked the beef a tiny bit better than the chicken. The kon lo mee was recommended to us by our server, but I didn't think it was that great. The noodles were a bit oily, and the char siu was dry. I liked the slightly spicy acidic sauce that came with the dish. It added more depth to the dish. I didn't enjoy their curried potatoes and chicken. Both the potatoes and chicken were dry and over cooked. Also, just a warning that the curry was spicier than I expected, so I would recommend tasting it before choosing the amount of curry you want poured over your rice. I'd rate this place 3.5 stars out of 5.

Roti Canai with Curry Sauce

Closer to a 2.5 star for me. Restaurant is fairly new so benefit of the doubt. Food preparation took quite long. We ordered three dishes and it took over over half hour to an hour for everything to arrive. It was bizarre. Tried their Chicken Satay Skewers. Meat was a tad dry. Likely because they were thigh pieces. They were long skewers though so although the pieces were small, collectively it was a normal sized portion. The peanut sauce was thick in texture. Personally thought it needed something extra. Roti Canai with Curry Sauce - roti pieces were soft, a bit crispy. Decent. Curry sauce could have used some more spice in its profile. Also had their Fresh Made Beef Kon Lo Mee. There was an option for thin or thick noodles. We opted for thick but it was surprisingly still quite thin. I am curious what actual thin would have been like. The noodle dish was probably the most flavorful of the dishes I tried. Noodle dish was also on oilier side. I'll probably return to try some other items on the menu but not when I'm hungry.

We came here after visiting New Town next door and were really happy we did! The restaurant is new, clean, and has a nice vibe. There's paid street parking right outside, which was super convenient. We ordered the spring rolls, chicken wings, and Ko Lon Mee (they had a BOGO deal, so we tried both pork and beef with thin noodles as recommended). The wings were amazing -- crispy, flavorful, and the sauce was seriously delicious. Highly recommend them! Ko Lon Mee was new to us but really tasty -- simple but packed with flavor. You mix everything yourself and can adjust the sauce to your liking (we asked for more!). Service was a bit slow, probably just because they recently opened, but overall it was a great experience. Definitely recommend, especially for the wings and Ko Lon Mee.

The cleanest restaurant in Chinatown at the moment as it's brand new. The floors are not greasy like most places in Chinatown. Decorated very modern and tables are well spaced. Service is good although during their soft opening, the food took 45 mins to come out with only at about 40% capacity. The waitresses kept apologising for the wait. They don't have a liquor license so no alcohol for those who like a drink with their meal. This didn't bother us. The kon lou mein was very tasty. Average sized meal but the satay was thin and not well seasoned ($3/stick). The satay sauce for dipping didn't taste like it had peanuts in it. We moved on to the short ribs ($20+) which came out in a small stack. Marinated well, smoky like their BKH jerky but it was also very chewy like jerky. The roti canai was very fluffy. Crispy and totally hit the spot. A touch oily but the thin crispy dough made up for it. Wished their curry sauce had more flavour in it. Overall it isn't bad if you want a quick hit of roti and noodles. Came up to $75 for 2 for dinner.

Surprised as I was to go through Chinatown and finally see the restaurant directly next to New Town open, and a new one that serves Malaysian-Singaporean food? Well, I finally went in, and came out and am happy to say, this is something that needs to be re-visited, if you like this kind of food run, get here, it's good. I can say that there have been Malaysian restaurants, there have been Singaporean restaurants, but I cannot pinpoint these two blending, and the stuff they serve here, I can't really tell you another restaurant that does it so well, mind you I went during soft opening, and yet everything came out beautifully presented, and hot (in temperature). The spot is the old Daisy Garden, if you want to know what it was, and what is cool is when you walk in you will notice ads for BKH jerky (yup, the same one's on Fraser Street) who are behind this restaurant, from talking to one of the female servers it is the grandson (I hope I got it right) and in the near future they will also be selling, and preparting, of the meat jerky up at the front of the store. To the main event, which is the restaurant and the food, they have changed up the aesthetics to this place, with some booths on the far wall, and it looks like some big natural wood communal tables at the center. Obviously we came around 2:30 PM on a Sunday, and probably because it is sunny, and it is hard to see the neon "OPEN" sign on, that not many people realize that it is even open yet.... and I can say once they know.... the people will come. We weren't hungry, but we definitely wanted to try some things on the menu, which started with an order of their roti-canai with curry dip. This was excellent, the fluffyness of the roti, with the multiple layers, where it was not dense or doughy, served with their housemade curry dip, and also a small plate of white sugar on the side. We didn't need the sugar, but it was nice to have, the curry sauce was thin, where the roti-canai was able to suck it all up, a great appetizer starter, and if you just love roti, you can't go wrong with their offering of it. Next we had an order of their lemon pepper crack chicken wings, the batter on top of the wings is very light, with an almost bready like crust that keeps the meat of the chicken inside juicy, paired with the lemon sauce, it provided a yuzu like zest and made the wings refreshing. The main event was the Kon Lo Mee, which was a very amazing dish, with your choice of noodles (thick or thin) and your choice of minced beef or pork and their house made char sui slices, two deep fried wontons, and served in scallion oil sauce. When you get the bowl, it is presented pretty, till you toss everything inside and make a mess to meld the flavours for every bite. The server also brought us a side dish of jalapeno vinegar if we wanted to add some spice. My wife quickly mixed everything up, and even though she doesn't eat spicy, she also mixed in the spicy vinegar, and was chewing away at the mixed noodles. It was something she said she hasn't had in a long time, and the taste were awesome. I bit into it, and I couldn't stop eating a few more bites. If we had more stomach room, I definitely would have ordered their beef curry and their Hainanese chicken, but that will be for a future visit. For now I have to say welcome, and I have a real good feeling about this place, and just can't wait to come back. And in the near future I can also come back and buy my favorite jerky in the city too!

Chicken Wings

This restaurant is pretty spacious and interiors are clean. Food here is alright and service can be sparse--there were only two people working when we came in. We ordered the Mee Goreng with Shrimp, Curry Beef Brisket with Noodles, Sambal Fried Rice, Chicken Wings, and Satay Skewers. The chicken wings were crispy and had nice texture. The mee goreng and beef brisket noodles were alright and the satay was unmemorable. The sambal fried rice was good and flavorful.

Offers a variety of Malaysian food. Two-page menu with one page of drink menu. Appetizer roti is normal. Beef satay is a bit dry and hard to remove from the stick. Dried noodles include a small plate of vinegar to add in the noodles - first time I see that and it's interesting. The grilled Malaysian chicken has the crispy skin however the texture of chicken is a bit mushy and too soft (no bite to it on texture). Good service. They offer free ice cream dessert however found out the ice cream machine is broken just right after their offer. The decor is the same as the last restaurant. Music is a bit too loud. A reasonable and safe choice if you are in the neighborhood.

Mee goreng

I'll be honest and initially judged a book by its cover, but really enjoyed our lunch here!! We each ordered our own dish and had a couple other dishes to share. I got the laksa and it was super delicious. I got to try a bit of the mee goreng too and might get that next time I visit and can detach myself from the thought of getting the laksa again. To share, we got roti and chicken wings, both were good. I think the sambal sauce was really nice, very fragrant but didn't find it too spicy, and I ended up looking for things to dip into it to have more. I was surprised they offer complimentary dessert as well! We got some pandan soft serve which was great after various spices. Being in the DTES the area may not be the most comfortable but definitely worth going to and will be back!

The food was to die for and I tried some beef with the Char Kuey which I do not normally eat. The Bubur Cha Cha was very similar to the Filipina dessert Ginataan. I enjoyed that there was a cute robot yelling out the orders lol. Furthermore I was excited to try Malay/Singaporean food in the heart of Vancouver. The ambiance was clean and very organized. Minus one star because my mom did not get what she wanted. It was nice to see her get a coke, which she does not do.

Kon Lo mein beef and pork with roti
Doreen L.

Finally tried this place for lunch and very happy I did. It's in heart of Chinatown with street parking available. Place is new and clean including the bath rooms! Servers were friendly and attentive. We both had the Kon Lo mein with pork/thin noodles and the beef/thick noodles. I liked thick noodles which were chewy and delish. We shared the roti which was crispy and the dipping sambal perfectly spiced. Nice surprise of complimentary pandan ice cream for dessert. I found the portions just right not small as previous reviews. Will definitely return to try rest of menu. Highly recommend!

The ordering system is similar to Ichiran Ramen; you can choose the noodle firmness, broth consistency, spiciness, green onions, oil level, and MSG amount . The basic ramen is only $13. I added a soft-boiled egg and pickled cabbage for $2 each. Although the pickled cabbage is really expensive , I can't help it, I'm a pickled cabbage addict! The pickled cabbage paired with the rich tonkotsu broth was refreshing. The broth was flavorful but not greasy, the noodles were chewy and springy, and the portion size was just right. The vegetarian was loaded with sesame seeds. Now i love those seeds but it was way too much for my liking. Too much seeds to chew on. They also do not put any vegetables on like Hawaii does. Everything is ala carte and that adds up. I simply chose the ramen version without all the add ons. The broth was yummy but again with the loaded seeds, it made it challenging to just drink the soup. I will say, Hawaii has by far better ramen, but this place was ok too. Pricey for for what you get though.

My favorite was definitely the curry udon, since the curry soup/sauce had more flavor. Out of the fried items, the shrimp tempura is delicious, and the zucchini tempura has a nice sweetness to it. Udon noodles were pretty good, has a nice solid texture to them. Overall bill was $50ish for 3 people. And since this is basically fast food, you don't necessarily have to tip.

Also got a piece of tempura spicy chicken - basically coated in shichimi and i think chili oil. This one was WAY too salty. They had a new yuzu drink which I also tried - too sweet, and for $5, total rip off. Considering the quality, their prices are on the high side. Its just not good enough a product, especially when there is exceptionally good ramen to be found elsewhere in Vancouver. Street meter parking if you can find it. Paid parking was not too hard to find on the Main Street but during busy dining hours it might be difficult. We got seated right away at the bar since there were no tables open and the service was quick. Traditional Japanese style ambiance and even the bathroom had rounded Japanese bowl sink. As someone who doesn't have chicken broth (paitan style) ramen, I was really looking forward to the original ramen I ordered but I was a bit disappointed in the flavor profile of the dish. The ramen had both chasu and seaweed paired with thin round noodles. The broth was creamy and had a hint of chicken flavor but even adding several rounds of their soy sauce/salt seasoning they have on the side to adjust your broth to your liking-- I found that the richness of the soup was not what I had expected from the reviews that I read prior to coming here. Overall, a bit disappointed in the flavoring of the broth but maybe we came on an off day. I would be willing to give it a shot again in the future if I had ramen cravings and given that it was very affordable ($11-15 per bowl with tip), but I would probably opt to try another place first.

Review #3 for 2026 I…read morereally wanted to like this place. I watched many videos and read reviews before coming here, but it just did not hit the spot. After a cold day of exploring Stanley Park, we felt that ramen would really hit the spot, so we went here not wanting to deal with a wait at Danbo with a hungry and tired toddler. There was NO wait when we arrived here and we were seated immediately... which for a place that was really hyped up, should had made us think twice. There was only 1 other party at the restaurant. Now, the workers were super nice and the food came out quickly and we did eat everything because we were starving. We all ordered the cha-shu tamago ramen, 2 of us got spicy and 2 of us non-spicy. It came with extra chashu and the soft boiled egg for about $20 Canadian. The bowl was a good size and there was a promo for free extra noodles while we were there. Everyone except me in our group took advantage of it because I was too full from my bowl. Now, the broth here is different from other places because it is chicken based and not pork based. Everything I had seen about this place promised the broth is every bit just as good as the pork bone broth... however, the broth we received looked flavorful, but was bland. It was completely bland. There was no richness to it, not even a hint. I don't know, coming from southern California, the flavor just was not there period. We did all eat our food because we were starving, but it for sure did not hit the spot at all. Maybe we got an off day? Otherwise our broth had literally zero flavor to it. We all wished we had tried the other ramen place instead right after trying our ramen. Would I come back? I will have to say definitely no. We do not live in Vancouver and I do not want to waste any meals on a place that did not taste good the first time we went.
